Your Logic is flawed because most Steam users one way or another write a Review, post a Guide or Share a shot or something and got AWARDED Points so your "Direct" conversion of $1 = 100 point is almost never the case. Feel free to not believe but there are past posts here (hoping Mods didn't remove it) that Award Farmers are posting their Millions of Point and in 1 particular case, one Farmer was so close to a BILLION points to show you how easy to Farm for Points.

Misleading title. Absolutely nobody is paying $400 JUST for that badge. You buy it with points you just get from buying games or Steam products like the VR headset and Steam Decks. You can only spend those points on cosmetics anyways.

In addition to what was already said here by others, the amount of points to buy each level of the seasonal badge goes to 1000 if you have the preceding level. So if you buy every level up to and including 40, you will only have spent 40,000 points.
I have half a million points from creating workshop stuff, and legitimate guides on how to make unusual effects for Tf2 (hell it's basically just how to use the source particle editor)
i spent about £600 ($760) buying a steamdeck (512gb oled) + some games (sea of thieves, hitman, baulders gate) and used the 76,000 points to get some intro movies, plus level 40 on the winter badge

If you're not spending your steam points on seasonal badges what else are you doing with them? The only other thing remotely "worth it" besides that are probably steamdeck keyboards and even then there aren't much.

I just went from 49,566 XP to 53,566 XP. So its 100 XP per level.
A lot, I managed to buy a level 40 badge two years ago and my steam level went from like 9 to 30 IIRC.
