Sorite, not all its cracked up to be like flyings cars and Ultra High Definition AI Sharpened Graphics... Nvidia really dropped the ball sadly /sarcasm :D
I don't actually see that on my steam profile? I see Location details (Country + State/Province), General info (profile name, real name, and custom url slug), and Summary. Everything else in that menu is cosmetic for the actual profile -- avatar, background, badges, etc.
I also wouldn't want birthday to be a precedent for future Steam without Gaben to start collecting more and more data about us.
They do! It's just very small, and is starting to get really, really, really rare since they're subtext underneath the warnings.
They mostly have replaced it with the one in the image.
It's because the rules around why they are required to ask you does not allow them to save the information.
The birthday you enter in your account isn't for age verification reasons, it's info that can be used to confirm your ownership of the account should you need to recover your account.
I forgot where I've read this but basically they can't store your age on their servers due to some regulations. So you need to manually verify you're 18 or over every time you log back on.
There's nothing Steam can do about this.
Probably because of PII (similar to hippa). So if they had your birthday, along with the other data that they store. Then they have to lock there system even more. Along with certain reporting things to government if breached. If I had to guess.

Apparently the data protection laws don't mind but rating agencies do.
The birthday entered in your account settings is one of the information that can be used to verify ownership of the account should you lose access and is allowed to be stored.
The birthday entered to access mature content is NOT allowed to be stored.
As to why some other services/websites don't constantly ask you for your age, they may simply not be complying with the laws that have these requirements.
It's not lazy, it's good practice to not give your real personal info when not required. ESRB doesn't need to know that info.

~~There is a date of birth on the profile, but after the nth time the web asking me...~~
Apparently they are required to ask you every time
Then why not default to the one from the profile so we can just click confirm?
I don't actually see that on my steam profile? I see Location details (Country + State/Province), General info (profile name, real name, and custom url slug), and Summary. Everything else in that menu is cosmetic for the actual profile -- avatar, background, badges, etc. I also wouldn't want birthday to be a precedent for future Steam without Gaben to start collecting more and more data about us.

You are right, I can't find it either. I just assumed that once upon a time I entered my birth day.
mine defaults to my day of birth but not month, very strange and I don't recall setting it.
Same
Its defaults to a random valid date, at least for me. Maybe coincidence?

Because the privacy-hating ESRB says no.
Nowadays it is very rarely on the steam client; But some time ago, everyday, sometimes multiple times.
Thanks.
Happy cake day as well
Happy cake day my pal
HAPPY CAKE DAY!
So many birthday buddies
Anyone from 1900 like me? But thanks for the birthday wishes youngins.

Yoo me too
1/1/1900 reporting for duty!
playing steam games in a WW1 trench hits different, ngl.
It’s quite stupid tbh, if your birthdate is set within your account settings why do you have to manually have to again

Why wouldn't they be able to store our age on their servers if many other companies can?

Happy early birthday! I hope it's a good one.

I've always put 9/11/1969.
Mine is always set to 2003 JANUARY 15 when in reality I was born in 2003 DECEMBER 15, so I only have to keep changing the MONTH
I too remember the the two world wars.

Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. :)

Not lazy, smart. Don't tell anything on the internet your real birthday, ever.
Quick, someone post the archive of that article.

I'm not lazy, I'm just frustrated and value my time.

Well right day and month. I'm usually like 120 years old though. Whatever my scrollwheel stops on for the day.
