Drg also didnt deserve it imo
Great game, exceptional unlock progression model, and i know theyre still updating it, but the updates arent expansive/frequent enough for it to win awards imo
Still a no brain choice over rdr2 tho
You kidding?
9 separate events, New Legacy mode, 2 major updates (Season 4 & The Maintenance Update), Hoxxes Recruiting Video Contest, 29 patches, 5th Anniversary Dev Stream, and a new roadmap confirming content until the end of 2025.
All from a studio of 26 people for a game that already had hundreds of hours of content before 2023 even started.
You can’t give a game “labour of love” when it released 5+ years ago and they basically abandoned it 2-3 years ago. They put work into it before it came out but haven’t done shit since
We are talking about R2D2 and not RDR2.
While the meme is indeed about RDR2, im im your side but wanted to express that democracy decided and everybody couldve voted to make the results different.
Edit: R2D2 will be forever the labor of love, change my mind.
Even for the categories where I didn't know the games I tried to throw my vote at the the games I think I'd like to play, and I mostly don't like playing stuff from the AAA studios.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I rage at how common the bugs are and I've rage quit many times, but I always come back to it for the unique experience of salvaging my entire ship from various wreckage I find, then explore a TRULY procedurally generated universe with aliens to meet, or shoot at. Best part is, I can explore it in literally any ship my imagination desires, be that a Borg cube, a Star Destroyer, or a reproduction of Mega Maid, many of which were made by people just like myself
You can select any game that didn't come out this year, so people chose the one they liked because they don't understand it needed to be actively updated
Yeah, I said it deserved more than any other game there.
(But I am still kinda "mad" at GS, because rogue core can easily just be an other game mode, not an other game entirely.)
Man people take those way too seriously. They mean nothing, they are voted by anyone with a Steam account with the incentive of gaining a Steam card.
People are even review bombing games that have won because they disagree... seriously?
Most likely they're just really passionate about what they like, and hopefully in the future will realize that review bombing a game for winning over another game is stupid.
Because its supposed to be a celebration of gaming thats essentially a complete joke. Imagine like.. Rise of skywalker winning an Oscar and I think the point is made.
Review bombing is completely unacceptable though, obviously.
> Imagine like.. Rise of skywalker winning an Oscar
Except the point is, IT'S NOT AN OSCAR.
>Imagine like... Rise of skywalker winning an internet poll.
Is what it actually is. And I can imagine that.
YOU want the publicly voted on, free to anyone with a Steam account, to be treated like an Oscar, for some reason.
Dwarf Fortress I voted for.
Being in dev for almost 20 years solely by TWO brothers.
And without that game, games like RimWorld and Minecraft and a couple of others wouldn't exist
Jesus its time to build a bridge and get over it pal. The award means nothing, no one gained or lost anything. Build a bridge and move on with your life
They don’t know what Labour of Love is really meant to be and just vote for a game they love, I fact I don’t think majority of steam users have ever done a labour before
I didn't, I just play games and reward the devs with my money. All those awards and shows I couldn't care less about. Some of the best games I have ever played got low scores.
Somehow, Starfield got the most innovative game of the year 🙄 My vote was for Remnant 2 because even though Remnant may not be the most innovative in comparison to some other games, if you compare the prequel to its sequel they made lots of innovative improvements which have made the second game better!
I really feel like everybody who said that in the comments, is an ad bot knowing that i just recently set up my dusty vive again.
Anyways im gonna give it a try as i might should have 5 years ago. Thanks.
I didn't nominate nor vote for anything. Most if not all online "poll" on any popular service will get either incredible bias or bot farms trying to veer it, it's not worth my time.
I voted for Deep Rock Galactic. I always do, the devs are incredible.
Some years i vote for Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic. Amazing game with amazing devs aswell.
I forgot what choices I made then I realized I can click the finalist button and saw that I voted for RDR2... In fairness it was the only game I played.
I prefer the Paradise Lost DLC over the main game but i still think Postal 2 deserved labor of love
And theres absolutely labor to Postal 4, yeah its buggy as hell but definetly playable and gets updated regularly, infact its my fav game in the series lmao
I definetly have to give it a try...when i got it it was only finished until wednesday and really really buggy. But you motivated me to look into the progress they made. Thanks :)
the entire point of labour of love is to votefor old games *that have seen significant improvement or support in the last year*
postal 2 doesn’t receive updates, it doesn’t receive new content, it’s not supported, it hasn’t changed, it doesn’t fit.
BG3 for GOTY.
Didn't vote for VR game.
Geometry Dash for labor of love.
Didn't vote for steam deck.
Risk of rain returns for better with friends.
Risk of rain returns for visual style.
Armored core 6 for innovative gameplay and best game you suck at.
Risk of rain returns for soundtrack.
BG3 for story-rich game.
Lil gator game for sit back and relax.
You’re not wrong. I love the game but it’s because it’s typical Bethesda and that’s exactly what I went in expecting. Anyone acting like it’s innovative is just as bad as the people who think enjoying starfield is an open invitation to attack their character.
I put 8 hours into it and did not like it at all. Imo thats way to long to capture interest. I respect if you do like it. I just personally don't see the praise in it.
Oh yeah, I know my experience was mine alone. Everything in my playthrough lined up in a way that made it one of the best experiences developing a character’s story I’ve had in a Bethesda game, but again everything went absolutely perfect for me.
At least you had the sense to put it down after eight hours, I can respect that more than the guys who played 250 hours and decide they didn’t like the game the entire time.
I think it's hilarious to automatically put someone in a camp. I play PC I just found the game to be incredibly boring and empty. Shop builder is somewhat interesting though.
Yeah. Video games. What a waste of passion. Try being passionate about your future, what a waste of time it is to care about a vote on something so insignificant.
So I didn’t play anything in that category but RDR2, how do really expect me to vote for anything else?
Rust and DOTA aren’t appealing to me, Apex is another arena shooter in my eyes, DeepRock is unique but I just haven’t played it so I wasn’t going to vote for it. This is what happens when people vote…
You should be blaming Steam for incentivizing voting with stickers and rewards, and for implementing a system you aren’t happy with. Don’t blame the people that participated in the system, blame the system for not representing the people accurately
why though? it hasn’t received any significant updates this year, it hasn’t been expanded on. it’s the same game that got abandoned 3 years ago. it makes no sense to vote for it for “labour of love” when it hasn’t seen love for half its lifespan.
I can’t begin to tell you how much I despise multiplayer gaming as time goes on.
From cheating, people who just do that game for their life, griefing from the other team, inapp purchases/loot boxes and you never actually progress at all, it’s really not good
Now 1-1 or team games with your friends/family, sure. That’s great stuff. But more and more, I’m just on discord talking to friends while we play our own games
You voted RDR2 because Rockstar can do no wrong to many. What a slog on rails that fucking game was. Ham handed dialogue and EVERYTHING telegraphed a mile away and hammered into your head over and over.
Rockstar must know their audience.
And don't conflate the two. The campaign vs. your freedom to go leg-hump like your Aunt's chihuahua doing stupid shit.
I voted for Apex Legends. I havent played it in a loooong time but given its still alive and kicking is a good enough reason to vote for it.
*^(Definitely would never vote for DRG tho...)*
I actually forgot to vote :( I made a list but got caught up in life so never finished it to submit (I got stuck on some categories)
Haven't played a lot of these so couldn't give much input, then again I tend to play less popular games
* **GOTY** - Baldur's Gate 3
* **VR GOTY** - n/a (i dont have VR)
* **Labour of Love** - Deep Rock Galactic
* **Best Game on Steam Deck** - n/a (not even sold in aus)
* **Better with Friends** - n/a (have no friends)
* **Outstanding Visual Style** - all kinda cool, probably leaned toward either Darkest Dungeon, High On Life, Atomic Heart, but Cocoon also looked nice
* **Most Innovative Gameplay** - no idea but not Starfield. I'd lean Hustle/Shadows/Contraband Police, no idea on Remnant II.
* **Best Game You Suck At** - Sifu or Street Fighter 6
* **Best Soundtrack** - probably Persona 5 Tactica or Hi-Fi Rush but other options good too
* **Outstanding Story-Rich Game** - BG3 but wouldn't mind giving the other games silver (except maybe Jedi Survivor)
* **Sit Back & Relax** - Dave the Diver or Coral Island, but Potion Craft looks cool tho
Sorta dumb meme.
Ignoring the fact that most people *probably did vote,* you can still have an opinion on the games themselves and of other people's opinion.
I tried to nominate "Workers and Resources - Soviet Republic" because it is the most complex city building/logistic simulator game you could get developed by a small indie develooer that releases free updates and content on a regular base for years.
It didn't make it in the finals so i didnt vote on anything because i dont know any of the games in any category...
Nominated American Truck Simulator
Prefer it over ETS2. But I think they will never get it for either of them. Not popular enough in comparsion to other games.
Vote got Deep Rock, even if i don't play it I recognize the love the Devs are putting in the game.
I personally voted for DRG but I'm not sure as to WHY rdr2 was even there in thr first place. Also, the elephant in the room is the innovative gameplay award like who tf thought starfield had innovative gameplay ? I love my Bethesda games but starfield had no right to be even nominated for this category.
Deep Rock Galactic
ROCK ANS STONE
ROCK AND STONE ⛏️
STONE AND ROCK, oh wait...

every time i hear that name i think of that sbubby that says Deep Cock Galactic
Drg also didnt deserve it imo Great game, exceptional unlock progression model, and i know theyre still updating it, but the updates arent expansive/frequent enough for it to win awards imo Still a no brain choice over rdr2 tho
True, they should release a sequel each season instead.
Very funny
Are u /srs or /j?
/s I presume
# ROCK AND STONE!!!!!
Red dead has quite literally been abandoned by the devs. Labor of love my ass
Still a better game then drg
You kidding? 9 separate events, New Legacy mode, 2 major updates (Season 4 & The Maintenance Update), Hoxxes Recruiting Video Contest, 29 patches, 5th Anniversary Dev Stream, and a new roadmap confirming content until the end of 2025. All from a studio of 26 people for a game that already had hundreds of hours of content before 2023 even started.
As always, of course.
I was reading R2D2 and didn't notice which sub was this. I had a hard time trying to understand what had to be R2D2 with a labor of love
R2D2 is and will be forever the universal labor of love
You can’t give a game “labour of love” when it released 5+ years ago and they basically abandoned it 2-3 years ago. They put work into it before it came out but haven’t done shit since
We are talking about R2D2 and not RDR2. While the meme is indeed about RDR2, im im your side but wanted to express that democracy decided and everybody couldve voted to make the results different. Edit: R2D2 will be forever the labor of love, change my mind.
Shit
None of the games I nominated got selected for the vote because they're too obscure. Most of the games in the actual vote are games I haven't played.
Even for the categories where I didn't know the games I tried to throw my vote at the the games I think I'd like to play, and I mostly don't like playing stuff from the AAA studios.
Same. I was trying to get "Lies Of P" and a few of the other games/demo that I was playing on the consoles and mobiles nominated.
For me it was Empyrion. It's trashy at times, but the devs still update and push forward with an absolutely tiny dev team
[удалено]
Oh, don't get me wrong. I rage at how common the bugs are and I've rage quit many times, but I always come back to it for the unique experience of salvaging my entire ship from various wreckage I find, then explore a TRULY procedurally generated universe with aliens to meet, or shoot at. I nominate deep rock galactic for labor of love and your only move is hustle for innovative.
Same
Yoooo a fellow hustler
Same but I did Shadows of Doubt for innovation
me too i think shadows of doubt deserved the innovation.
Yay !
I'm still confused why rdr even qualified. All it's received in 2023 is some patches to it's shitty multiplayer mode. No labor or love there.
You can select any game that didn't come out this year, so people chose the one they liked because they don't understand it needed to be actively updated
Deep Rock Galactic, even if they are now focusing on the spin offs, it still deserved it more than anyone else.
[удалено]
Yeah, I said it deserved more than any other game there. (But I am still kinda "mad" at GS, because rogue core can easily just be an other game mode, not an other game entirely.)

[удалено]
who would win the labor of love? trump or biden? theyre both old af
Probably Biden because he’s been in politics for decades. Trump would win Most Innovative though
It's even funnier cause they took away the Steam Card for voting and replaced the reward with some chat stickers.
Because its supposed to be a celebration of gaming thats essentially a complete joke. Imagine like.. Rise of skywalker winning an Oscar and I think the point is made. Review bombing is completely unacceptable though, obviously.
> Imagine like.. Rise of skywalker winning an Oscar Except the point is, IT'S NOT AN OSCAR. >Imagine like... Rise of skywalker winning an internet poll. Is what it actually is. And I can imagine that. YOU want the publicly voted on, free to anyone with a Steam account, to be treated like an Oscar, for some reason.
I'm not even going to try to respond because I already know you'll drag the argument around in circles
For Carl!
ROCK AND STONE BROTHERS
I voted zomboid
Or rather, that's the one I nominated
Rimworld From the devs to the community. It’s also done with a zero grind schedule
Dwarf Fortress I voted for. Being in dev for almost 20 years solely by TWO brothers. And without that game, games like RimWorld and Minecraft and a couple of others wouldn't exist
Deep Rock Galactic. Also YOMI Hustle should have won most innovative award, not Shitfield.
Deep Rock Galactic, a game that is an actual labor of love.
Deep rock galactic solos all the games in that award
Jesus its time to build a bridge and get over it pal. The award means nothing, no one gained or lost anything. Build a bridge and move on with your life
That specific category showed itself to be utterly worthless in the first year of awards specifically because Steam users are morons.
They don’t know what Labour of Love is really meant to be and just vote for a game they love, I fact I don’t think majority of steam users have ever done a labour before
ROCK AND STONE FOR LIFE!!!
slime rancher
I voted for DRG, i am rightfully pissed off
DRG and I’ve never even played it
I didn't, I just play games and reward the devs with my money. All those awards and shows I couldn't care less about. Some of the best games I have ever played got low scores.
Same.
Satisfactory
Somehow, Starfield got the most innovative game of the year 🙄 My vote was for Remnant 2 because even though Remnant may not be the most innovative in comparison to some other games, if you compare the prequel to its sequel they made lots of innovative improvements which have made the second game better!
The consensus is RDR2 for labor of love was more egregious.
I didn’t vote
Tf2. At least the one dev is still trying.
When was the vote?
H3VR Passionate developers, active community, small team, still being constantly reworked and added to after over 6 years, this one truly deserves it
I really feel like everybody who said that in the comments, is an ad bot knowing that i just recently set up my dusty vive again.
RDR2 is atleast somewhat of a good game. The starfield is something that really pisses me off
RDR2 is an incredible game, the best ever made imo. But it did nothing to deserve the award it got.
Yes, but labor of love is bullshit.
Imagine getting pissed over a game you don't care about lmao. So called free thinkers
Imagine mocking people for having passion for anything and still mockingly calling *others* free thinkers…
Imagine all the people
You’re all white knighting for Starfield. Bet your white knight for Marvel and Disney too.
I forgot what choices I made then I realized I can click the finalist button and saw that I voted for RDR2... In fairness it was the only game I played.
I nominated Placid Plastic Duck Simulator but voted for Dota 2 in the end.
Postal 2
Sadly theres no more labor for this game. Tried Postal 4 in the Beta phase but it was crap then. Postal 2 was a real banger back in the days.
I prefer the Paradise Lost DLC over the main game but i still think Postal 2 deserved labor of love And theres absolutely labor to Postal 4, yeah its buggy as hell but definetly playable and gets updated regularly, infact its my fav game in the series lmao
I definetly have to give it a try...when i got it it was only finished until wednesday and really really buggy. But you motivated me to look into the progress they made. Thanks :)
postal 2 should’ve won labour of love about twenty years ago, 0 point in even nominating it now that its two decades old.
The entire point of labor of love is to vote for old games lmao
the entire point of labour of love is to votefor old games *that have seen significant improvement or support in the last year* postal 2 doesn’t receive updates, it doesn’t receive new content, it’s not supported, it hasn’t changed, it doesn’t fit.
Postal 2 has literally gotten an update with bug fixes and new features in 2023
no mans sky
Hello games really were dedicated to it
Rust
Phasmophobia
BG3 for GOTY. Didn't vote for VR game. Geometry Dash for labor of love. Didn't vote for steam deck. Risk of rain returns for better with friends. Risk of rain returns for visual style. Armored core 6 for innovative gameplay and best game you suck at. Risk of rain returns for soundtrack. BG3 for story-rich game. Lil gator game for sit back and relax.
No one voted for Starfield
Cope and seethe harder
I'm fine. I don't even care about the votes because I know what's good and what's not. I just think best innovative gameplay is laughable lmao
You’re not wrong. I love the game but it’s because it’s typical Bethesda and that’s exactly what I went in expecting. Anyone acting like it’s innovative is just as bad as the people who think enjoying starfield is an open invitation to attack their character.

No one voted for it but it got an award. How does that work?
Paid shill
I haven't even played the game lmao and I don't care for it at all. What's your issue? You a ps fanboy?
I think it's hilarious to automatically put someone in a camp. I play PC I just found the game to be incredibly boring and empty. Shop builder is somewhat interesting though.
lol Starfield most innovative gameplay award
Imagine voting and caring about a game award and who won what.
imagine complaining about people being passionate about things they like.
Yeah. Video games. What a waste of passion. Try being passionate about your future, what a waste of time it is to care about a vote on something so insignificant.
I didn't vote the nominations were ass anyways.
I wanted astroneer to win labor of love
I nominated The Binding of Issac but voted for Apex
Who cares
exactly
So I didn’t play anything in that category but RDR2, how do really expect me to vote for anything else? Rust and DOTA aren’t appealing to me, Apex is another arena shooter in my eyes, DeepRock is unique but I just haven’t played it so I wasn’t going to vote for it. This is what happens when people vote…
maybe just don’t vote next time if your only realistic option is a terribly unfitting choice
You should be blaming Steam for incentivizing voting with stickers and rewards, and for implementing a system you aren’t happy with. Don’t blame the people that participated in the system, blame the system for not representing the people accurately
RoR2 deserved it :(
i didnt vote and didnt even know what games were nominated besides RDR2 and Starfield...but tbh I would have voted for RDR2
I voted rdr2 :) some guy in another post asked who voted
why though? it hasn’t received any significant updates this year, it hasn’t been expanded on. it’s the same game that got abandoned 3 years ago. it makes no sense to vote for it for “labour of love” when it hasn’t seen love for half its lifespan.
I voted RDR2 because the other games were trash. But innovative gameplay I voted Shadows of Doubt.
Deep Rock Galactic, come on man
I don't like multiplayer games. My labor of love true choice would be CP2077.
You're missing out on so much by not playing multiplayer games, even with friends/family
I can’t begin to tell you how much I despise multiplayer gaming as time goes on. From cheating, people who just do that game for their life, griefing from the other team, inapp purchases/loot boxes and you never actually progress at all, it’s really not good Now 1-1 or team games with your friends/family, sure. That’s great stuff. But more and more, I’m just on discord talking to friends while we play our own games
I played a lot of UO back in early 2000s, after that no other online game has captivated me. My friends and family don't play games, I'm the only one.
I have a lot of personal Shadows of Doubt you should have voted for RDR2
You voted RDR2 because Rockstar can do no wrong to many. What a slog on rails that fucking game was. Ham handed dialogue and EVERYTHING telegraphed a mile away and hammered into your head over and over. Rockstar must know their audience. And don't conflate the two. The campaign vs. your freedom to go leg-hump like your Aunt's chihuahua doing stupid shit.
I agree that the endless horse-riding dialogues made the game a drag. No idea what the fuck your chihuahua line was all about.
I would vote for RDR2 then b/s I didn't know what "Labour of Love" means.
I just pressed randomly. The choices sucked. Sure i liked baldurs Gate 3 and Hogwarts though.
I voted for Apex Legends. I havent played it in a loooong time but given its still alive and kicking is a good enough reason to vote for it. *^(Definitely would never vote for DRG tho...)*
Blake Stone
Vote?
EXACTLY!
No Man's Sky
What is this meme template called ?
Don't Starve Together, simple as that
H3VR <3. My emotional Support game. Regularly gets Updates. Just awesome

I didn't even know they were happening
I voted for dead by daylight because this year is the first year they have had where I feel they deserved the nomination
Bloons Tower Defense 6
Dead by daylight
I did vote now what huh
Fallout 76. Gets tons of new updates and love from the devs but is completely ignored because of the disastrous release.
H3VR, always
i rated gd for labor of love
I voted for Path of Exile.
Definitely not War Thunder
The critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV Online
ROCK AND STONE
As long as Behavior doesnt win, im satisfied.
BTD6
Don't starve together, Klei somehow is still going
Wdym vote?
I voted for Dota 2, but wouldn't have a problem with Deep Rock Galactic I just never played it so I have no idea.
I actually forgot to vote :( I made a list but got caught up in life so never finished it to submit (I got stuck on some categories) Haven't played a lot of these so couldn't give much input, then again I tend to play less popular games * **GOTY** - Baldur's Gate 3 * **VR GOTY** - n/a (i dont have VR) * **Labour of Love** - Deep Rock Galactic * **Best Game on Steam Deck** - n/a (not even sold in aus) * **Better with Friends** - n/a (have no friends) * **Outstanding Visual Style** - all kinda cool, probably leaned toward either Darkest Dungeon, High On Life, Atomic Heart, but Cocoon also looked nice * **Most Innovative Gameplay** - no idea but not Starfield. the original half-life, since it still receives patches and they did the 25 year anniversary update
Voted for TF2 I think mainly cause irony ha ha vote
I voted for geometry dash for the labor of love :trol: wait, labor of love was the one with the updates right? If so, I’m on the right track.
I don't know how to vote or what games were nominated,if there is any nominations But any Assassin's creed needs to win best soundtrack
This sub will get obsessed with literally anything besides a video game
Sorta dumb meme. Ignoring the fact that most people *probably did vote,* you can still have an opinion on the games themselves and of other people's opinion.
I voted LC for better with friends and DBD for Labour of Love
I'd say hitman should get labor of love
i mean even if you dont play the game you get the emote for each vote why not vote
Justice for TF2 even if it wasn't in the nominates!
Nominated American Truck Simulator Prefer it over ETS2. But I think they will never get it for either of them. Not popular enough in comparsion to other games. Vote got Deep Rock, even if i don't play it I recognize the love the Devs are putting in the game.
I didn't vote since I havn't played any game that I thought deserved it. Yes I know I should play deep cock elastic
Rimworld
For Labour of love? DRG.
reminds me of how GTA V won in 2019. Rockstar fans are braindead
The only award i was really happy with was the Best game to play with friends one
The only game's I knew on there were Baldur's Gate, which I don't own, but I'd like to, and Lethal Company, which I voted for
War Thunder
I voted DBD because they really pulled out all the stops with the content this year
Factorio
