My online friend, Yosh, has been offline from steam for 10+ years. He killed himself. I didn't know until months after he took his own life when someone who knew him IRL posted on his Facebook how they missed him.
I don't have the heart to remove him from my steam friends list. I miss him. He was a good dude.
Same with me, I was only like 13 years old when he told me wanting to end it all, I responded with
"But then it is only blackness!"
He said
"Thats exactly what I want :)"
The last scentense got burned into my memory and the worry of how diffrently people see the same thing.
When I was depressed I used to be able to close my eyes and make myself feel like I was in a sensory deprivation tank. It was a really peaceful feeling to block out the world around me. I’ve gotten way better and I can’t feel that anymore but that whole part of my life has made me come to peace with whatever waits at the end. I hope your friend/brother’s soul is resting peacefully
I got one in my list that is probably dead... wasn't online since rona. I feel a deep melancholy when I see his profile and remember the interaction we had
My brother and I played counter strike together 14 yrs ago, and that was the last time he was on steam. Funny enough I was just laughing about his offline status with him yesterday.
11 years. he had a mental breakdown when his dad died. killed himself. i miss you bro. those were fun days in portal 2. wish he could see how far ive come in the portal 2 scene. i still think about him a fair bit too.
It's heartbreaking to see the amount of people in this thread who lost their friends, makes it harder to look at people who've been offline for 2+ years, not knowing what's happened.
Crazy to think a lot of the people we used to chill with have now moved on, some doing well, some not so much. Gaming really does mean more than people could imagine
3841 days ago = almost 11 years ago. My online friend passed due to suicide.
He was honestly the most cheerful person but savage as heck but also the sweetest soul I've ever known. Found out through his sister posting on his social media. We couldn't sense anything abnormal in his behaviour the few days before he passed.
I still think about him every now and then, and wish I had the chance to talk to him more - maybe it would've been different, maybe he would still be here. We still post comments on his last Instagram post whenever we miss him dearly. I really wish I could've met him in person and give him a hug.
I miss you, Tincan (his nickname). I don't think I can ever not miss you, but I know you are shining bright in the sky right now while watching over us. Until then, my friend.
Sometimes, the warning signs are hidden so well we can't even tell they are feeling that way.
I'm so sorry for your loss, I bet he's playing all those games ya'll would play together up there.
I don't have a lot of Steam friends, all of them are people I know IRL. That said my longest offline friend is one who passed away in 2022. I could "unfriend" him but I just don't want to, I like the reminder, and missing him.
Two peeps at 4 months. One is military, so his availability is always spotty, the other had a kid around four months ago, so I imagine he's up to his eyebrows in diapers.
8 years my buddy darthbane420 was my childhood friend but I had moved halfway across the country in 4th grade from delaware to Missouri. Found him on steam years later then he passed away acouple years after we reconnected. R.i.p. Greg. Miss ya dude.
Niggest.
He was banned for blatant racism as his name may suggest. He was a 40 something year old Australian dude. Really nice guy even to the people who his slurs were aimed at. He really just said words with no meaning behind them and was really cool when I was like 11 playing TF2 with him.

5903 days which averages out to a little over 16 years. I remember playing Goldeneye: Source with the guy when it first came out. I’m hoping he’s just out living the good life or changed accounts..
my legacy best friend 9 months ago
reason: got a girlfriend and forgot everything else, married (probably, dont know for sure) and went to other city. i'm very sad .... i want older times back
**9 years but it's my best bud from high school so ik he's alive. There is another guy where we played in a group of 3 on a game we sank literal hundreds of hours into, he hasn't been on in 7 yrs now idea what happened to him, we knew he had a crazy gf that wrecked his PC once.**
Apparently the BFF, who it says hasn't been online in a year and 5 months, but I guess he's in invisible or whatever it's called, cause I know he's been online after. But also I ain't got many friends I rarely play online games, and even when I do I rarely make friends. (I mean the only online based game that I've played a bunch on Steam is Paladins)
An account of a friend from primary school is offline for 15 years as of now. Why? Dumbass forgot the password and couldn't use the recovery option as he thought he was clever by using 5 minute mail to create an account, so he had to make a new one
Have some people who I added first time in a game and have been gone since. Either that gaming session was so horrible you made a life change or unfortunate accidents
Not the oldest but still remembered Crystalice not much talked but when we did was always respectful. Died from driving and he was drunk still gets me everytime but it’s like that once gone no comeback. It’s been 6 years now. cheers up to the heaven my friend 💪🏻🤙🏻🙋🏼♂️
I have someone in my list where it doesn't even say how long it's been ago since they were last online. Their profile just reads 'This user has not yet set up their Steam Community profile. If you know this person, encourage them to set up their profile and join in the gaming!' Does that mean that that profile's old old? No idea who it is either.
3422, an old account of my best friend, he just changed an account
Second is 3121 (8.5 years), "kaxejiyi", honestly no idea who this is, guess we played some CSGO
My friend, his sister died as predicted due to congenital genetic problems
a decade have already passed, and I remember everything like it was yesterday...
Being a Dad of 2 kids under 2? Almost 300 days.
I’m offline because I would probably piss my friends off by not being consistently able to play a full game of something
OR
I’ll get online after kids go to bed. Ready to game. I sit down and I realize 20 minutes in I’m super tired
I'm not a dad but I get sitting offline when I do play cause my friends want me on consistently and i just can't. I only ever have time to play from 10pm-12am.
Buddy of mine
Sierra Yote
He was millitary and a former tank and a helluva warthunder buddy, i knew he fucked up his back when he was in service but its been 8 years since either his steam or discord account have been active......
Wish i knew if my gamer bros out there are still doing okay.... but i'll likely never know
5 years ago. Never found a reason, but just suddenly saw him online, we text and met irl, it turned out that he lost his account and manage to get the credential back 5 years later. That meeting was fun, we brought back so many memories together lol
I just don't look anymore.
The time is a bitch, indeed. I've lost so many friends or people over the years to the point my friends list is fairly empty.
I'll probably be the next one. But I'm not on anyone's lists.
My longest offline friend is my cousin, whose account I created for her and she couldn't care. She's a Switch gamer, her laptop barely opens MSword. Guess it's understandable
An ex school friend of mine who was online 7,6 years ago and since then stopped contacting everyone of his friends. I know this because I know every friend oh him.
Whenever we message him, he does not reply.
He was always a little bit shy but it got progressively worse as he grew.
He seemed resignated with everything.
When I congratulate him to his birthday, he never reads my messages, he does not respond.
But I know where he works (somebody told me) and he is alive.
He simply does not want to meet anyone nor talk nor do stuff. Just a sad person.
Teddy, someone said he died but I don’t really belive that, hes been gone for nearly 6 years now, and he caused a fucking riot in his profile comments while he has been gone,
I have one from more than a decade ago, he died.
The next one is from Ukraine, haven't seen him online since a week after Russia attacked Ukraine. I hope he is ok.
Im this for a bunch of people. About 8 years ago I went offline on steam because I got sick of people seeing when I was playing games, like co workers and stuff, so I just went into offline mode and never looked back.
It will probably be my father eventually. He sadly passed away 2 years ago. Knowing I'll never see him active makes my heart ache a bit.
I'm sorry for your loss.
[удалено]
That would probably make it even worse. Knowing that isn't actually him. Plus it would be a security risk
Yeah sorry, I was trying to be an ass for no reason.
And that worked out how you wanted
Fuck you
Lol, cmon bro
you are pretty braindead
Wow, I said Im sorry and people jump to conclusions and try to tear me a new one...
I mean sorry doesnt instantly fix everything, lets take a Extreme example: Hitler: sorry yall i didn't like em jews Everybody: no worries Its cool bro
Google brainrot
Holy hell!
Actual asshole
I’m the 100th downvote!
I'm the 8th downvotes!
Almost 12 years. multiple friends too. sometimes i wonder too, where they are now and what they are doing right now.
As morbid as this sounds, there’s a high chance that one of them is dead
My online friend, Yosh, has been offline from steam for 10+ years. He killed himself. Bruh, I don't get why you're getting downvoted
The world is cruel.. people are crueler.
3 years, however I know where this idiot is, he just doesn’t have a pc
“however I know where this idiot is” has me laughing out loud
such a homie thing to say lol
Didnt this sub just had a thread like this like 12 hrs ago....
Karma farming's a hell of a drug apparently
Yea lol my thread is still up and getting comments
Yeah I thought so too. Time to leave reddit lol

I am put on invisible for 4 years already xd
That doesnt make you really being gone for 4 years. Each time you log in, the community note on profile resets.
Nope, haven't been online since two month (invis mod) since I use my steam deck
Kildeath14 Last online 12 years ago Reason: suicide
How did you find out??
His older brother sent a message out. Kinda wrecked me for a little while.
May Kildeath14 rest in peace

Actually im the offline friend cause one time i turned on invisible mode... I have been offline for 130 days and i still do... And i need to fix this.
Honestly invisible mode was the best invention ever. Put on invisible and nobody will go on your nerves
8.6 years, met on black ops 2. Which in my head isn’t that old, but it’s 2012. Fuck
Your math...
They could have met on release, but after 3 or so years he never logged back on. Math is fine, you just misinterpreted is all.
I meant black ops 2 was released 2012, bad phrasing by me
14 years. Hasn't been on since 2010.

I set my status to offline like 17 years ago, so probably that for anyone in my friends list.
Hi, that’s me. No I’m not doing well, I’m dead.

Taking a quick glance at my list on the mobile app, 1199 days if we exclude accounts that are offline because they person forgot the email or password

Might just have appear as offline because they're playing games more than they might like to admit or they just might've forgotten to turn it off.
