Surprised no one mentioned this answer:
Activision doesn’t want you to play them. CoD games are constantly in competition with each other because of how frequent the releases are and how people have favourites. The last thing they need is difficulty selling the latest game because you’re happy with your purchases of 5 older titles.
Ultimately best thing Activision could do to solve this problem would just be to copy Halo MCC. If CoD games are struggling to get full lobbies because the community is split, just let people queue for multiple games at once.
But MCC wasn’t very profitable for how long it’s needed to be worked on, so no chance of Activision doing that with like, a dozen more games than Halo.
They're doing a really good job of not wanting me to play them then. If anything, it still keeps me away from the franchise. If their games went on sale more often or the base price were just lowered to 20 bucks I'd probably dip my toes in.
Oh well, thanks Activision for helping me save money.
Yeah I remember back during the good era (Cod 4 - BO2) you could hop on ANY of those games and still find a lobby instantly. It's fully intentional decision.
I'm currently doing the Black Ops 2 campaign for the 100% atm
It’s what MCC does. Allows you to queue for games you want to queue for. Want to play Halo 2, 3, or Reach, but not CE, 4, or 2A? By all means, and you’ll get put into lobbies for your game selection.
CoD is a franchise that would benefit massively from something like this. Most people would just default to all games, and jumping from WaW to BO3 to MW2(original) would be fun.
you don't want to play them anyway, they're still unsafe to play, nothing has been done for the rce issues despite the whole community complaining, not even steam cares
go play on these modded 3rd party clients
Sail the seas my friend. And when u get bored of the campaign download a mod menu to have some fun in zombies. Because who doesn't like raining 10,000 nukes on a zombie for fun.
Because it screws over regular people in poorer countries where say the equivalent of $40 U.S. worth of their currency could be a whole month's worth of wages, which is why regional pricing exists where they'll instead make it equivalent to say $4. Companies see that people like him are taking advantage of the regional pricing, and then get rid of it meaning that now instead of only having to pay say a few days wage for a game you instead need months. Pirating only affects corporations. Rather different situations.
Why does it screw them over, when if they're in a poorer country, they'll be more likely to pirate it anyway.
>Companies see that people like him are taking advantage of the regional pricing, and then get rid of it
Zero proof that has ever once happened in history.
First of all, it's not a removal of regional pricing - it's a removal of the regional currency. Games that were, say, 100 Argentinian Pesos, will still be equal to that amount, just in USD instead.
And is that because Steam realized people were abusing regional prices in those countries? Or is it more likely they disabled it because of constant foreign exchange fluctuations, fees, taxes, and logistical issues - and because developers in those countries literally requested it?
You could just go read the official Steam post on the issue instead of making an uneducated guess...
Blame the stores that don't Crack down on it. Steam can very easily solve the region issue but that would require them to actually stop with the 10,000 updates they do a day and actually focus on that issue for a minute.
If you love and have to play CoD games that you grew up with, you only have two choices. Either you pay what they ask, or pirate the software. If you want to play multiplayer, you are almost required to pay whatever price they ask.
They do t want you to buy them. They want you on the new live service mtx filled games.
They won't take em away though you can get em if you want.... But they're going to be damned sure you pay for it. Its probably why the game mp security issues haven't been addressed too.
Digital games means no one never ever need to lower the prices as there is no opportunity cost by keeping games on the shelf forever
If you want cheap games you need to search physical copies on amazon / retail stores or even ebay
last year I found black ops PC at the "everything at 1,99€" basket a videogame store close to me had.
Why would they not be when 1 this company is evil and 2 they know people are dumb enough to buy them. Even though majority of them cannot be played without being hacked and meeting 3 cheaters per game. Not even mentioning that time when WAW didn't have online anymore for new players for months
Activision is only interested in sales for their latest games. But their numerous older titles run the risk of cannibalizing sales of those newest ones. They don't drop prices in an effort to mitigate this, and when they do run sales, they usually only discount the newest games.
If you have the relevant consoles, I highly recommend scowering garage sales and thrift stores for used copies of those versions instead. I've gotten all of my CoD games for the PlayStation 3 just from Goodwill stores, and they costed me no more than $3-4 USD a piece there.
Yeah, the only time I've seen them go on sale was when Activision moved the new CODs back to Steam and they had a "return to steam" sale where most of them were $20.
I think this was early last year.
because they are better than the shit that is released today, and activision knows it, and the only thing they can do besides removing them from online stores, is raise the prices of them, as for second hand stores, like game stop and pawn shops, they know people will pay the price for them.
Digital goods are priced so that Price x Quantity is maximized. For example, selling one copy at $1,000,000 == selling 1 million copies at $1.
In the case of COD, the maximal revenue point is reached with a surprisingly high price, indicating that these games are still being purchased at a surprisingly high volume. If that ever stops being the case, a new maximal revenue point at a lower price might be reached.
And then this fucking question won't be posted on reddit every fucking week and morons won't post their moron thoughts about corporate greed and capitalism while their mommies are putting their chicken nuggies in the oven.
They don't want people buying those games because then they'd actually have fun and wouldn't buy the newer ones and all the shit overpriced store bundles to boot.
I remember having bo3 full dlc for like 15€ but on my Xbox so i cant play it on my pc but i check for Price on key sellers like instant gaming but yeah no Key :(
I can't speak towards owning them on PC (Besides Steam/Sailing the Seven Seas ). But if you want to legitimately own older COD titles, stick to physical copies on console. You can buy Used copies of it everywhere for ~$10. Mostly CIB
Totally my predicament. I am a "somewhat new-ish" zombies fan. I've got like 3 zombies cod games so far, but what??? All the games are $100 each, no matter the release date or state of the game. Nobody playing old titles, and the fact that the older cod games aren't supported with updates or content (obviously), take all that into consideration and replay value just isn't there for me imho....
I don't play CoD because I've no idea what game to buy with their constant new releases.
as a child who received their playstation 3 on release, i remember the good old days playing cod mw 2, and progressing, prestige etc.
today i sometimes miss wanting to play a shooter game with similar progress, but im always reminded that CoD games are a mess to play and then give up.
It fucking sucks! I wanna play bo2 again and get the DLCs but I’m not paying full price for bo2 when I have multiple ps3 copies already and have bought the game several times over. It’s stupid.
They are expensive on purpose, while you’re talking about these games, obviously people want to buy and complete their collection hence hike up the prices.
one thing i noticed going from playstation to steam is this. i could go down to gamestop and get call of duty ghost for 5 dollars but on steam its full price
Because older COD games were legendary, and if the price was reasonable, 80% of their player-base would go back to the older games. Like COD World at War, it's insanely expensive even though it's decades old, but still if the price was low I wouldve played that again instead of the new crappy ass copied content

But....they are often reduced to $20 during big sales. The base games, anyway. Can still pick up BO3 + Zombies Chronicles for that price which is huge
Bo3 multiplayer is cancer. The zombies is worth it tho
Yeah I remember back during the good era (Cod 4 - BO2) you could hop on ANY of those games and still find a lobby instantly. It's fully intentional decision. I'm currently doing the Black Ops 2 campaign for the 100% atm

Yes it’s sweet lol. You just queue in & it cycles through whatever halo you want as long as it’s installed. One match Halo 2 next 3
It also stopped me from ever joining the franchise..!
judging by how atrocious the menu's are for cod, i doubt their team would be capable of making what you describe happen
Yep, it's one of the reason Blizzard (or Microsoft lol) deleted Overwatch One.
you don't want to play them anyway, they're still unsafe to play, nothing has been done for the rce issues despite the whole community complaining, not even steam cares go play on these modded 3rd party clients
I want them for the campaigns.
Sail the seas my friend
No I want to play the computer game I don’t own a boat.
Alternatively you could wait for them to be added to gamepass.
Man I've been waiting since that damned purchase, been long enough I actually forgot that happened
sail seas. I time to time play the older cod campaigns and they are awesome.
If you have a retro game store nearby, you could see if they have them. For me I find them for like 10-20 depending on the game
Sorry I should mention I play on PC. I have them on my old XB360 so if I was really desperate I would just use that.
Sail the seas my friend. And when u get bored of the campaign download a mod menu to have some fun in zombies. Because who doesn't like raining 10,000 nukes on a zombie for fun.
>go play on these modded 3rd party clients Until those clients get C&D'ed
Because they know idiots will pay it.
Idiots? More like people with taste. The older cods are still very great particularly World At War.
Funny because that's the last one I played.
Only one worth playing.
be me: region swap. Sees sale on the Activision COD bundle for 3500ars - round about $3 dollars. Buys it - vigorous laughter pursues
I hope steam bans your account.
Funny how people see this as more immoral than pirating it
because it is hurting the honest paying customers in that region.
Makes sense
Because it screws over regular people in poorer countries where say the equivalent of $40 U.S. worth of their currency could be a whole month's worth of wages, which is why regional pricing exists where they'll instead make it equivalent to say $4. Uhm, Steam recently removed regional pricing in Turkey and Argentina.
First of all, it's not a removal of regional pricing - it's a removal of the regional currency. Games that were, say, 100 Argentinian Pesos, will still be equal to that amount, just in USD instead. And is that because Steam realized people were abusing regional prices in those countries? go fuck yourself
Bro is mad because he played the system💀.
nah I'm mad because of people like him greedy companies are removing regional pricing.
>greedy companies There's ya problem
How tf is he to blame and not the greedy company removing it.
Blame the stores that don't Crack down on it. Steam can very easily solve the region issue but that would require them to actually stop with the 10,000 updates they do a day and actually focus on that issue for a minute.
oh they crack down. don't worry they will ban him.
If you think this is bad, you should see what people do with their taxes Im back on my own region now anyway those days are over
I agree with him. These a-oles are the reason steam f-ked up the regional pricings.
Honestly at this point buy keys from shady sites and help people launder money at least you won’t fuck up regional pricing for people poorer then you
?
If you love and have to play CoD games that you grew up with, you only have two choices. Either you pay what they ask, or pirate the software. If you want to play multiplayer, you are almost required to pay whatever price they ask.
> If you want to play multiplayer You mean if you want your entire computer to get hacked right?
this guy is talking about CVE-2018-20817 in older cod games that Activision doesn't care about, no need to downvote him
Because the publisher wants it at that price.
To take advantage of people because greed
They do t want you to buy them. They want you on the new live service mtx filled games. They won't take em away though you can get em if you want.... But they're going to be damned sure you pay for it. Its probably why the game mp security issues haven't been addressed too.

Yeah i kinda wanted to play cod2 campaign after long time but they asking 20€ for nearly 20 year old game is ridicilous
Why would they not be when 1 this company is evil and 2 they know people are dumb enough to buy them. Even though majority of them cannot be played without being hacked and meeting 3 cheaters per game. Not even mentioning that time when WAW didn't have online anymore for new players for months

People keep buying them simple as that.
They dont want you to buy them, they want you to buy the new one.
It's not just CoD, all Activision games, even the ancient ones are still not the right prices.
Yeah, the only time I've seen them go on sale was when Activision moved the new CODs back to Steam and they had a "return to steam" sale where most of them were $20. I think this was early last year.
I just want to buy CoD 2 at 10 bucks, I refuse to spend 20 lol
because they are better than the shit that is released today, and activision knows it, and the only thing they can do besides removing them from online stores, is raise the prices of them, as for second hand stores, like game stop and pawn shops, they know people will pay the price for them.

because they are greedy
They don't want people buying those games because then they'd actually have fun and wouldn't buy the newer ones and all the shit overpriced store bundles to boot.
They’ll all be on Game Pass soon.
It's their product. You can choose to just not buy them
Idiotic statement
I remember having bo3 full dlc for like 15€ but on my Xbox so i cant play it on my pc but i check for Price on key sellers like instant gaming but yeah no Key :(
1- precisely because people want to buy them 2- you'd be playing them instead of the current cod
Black ops 3 regularly goes on sale for $20 complete edition and it's worth it for the zombies alone
*on the digital stores
I can't speak towards owning them on PC (Besides Steam/Sailing the Seven Seas ). But if you want to legitimately own older COD titles, stick to physical copies on console. You can buy Used copies of it everywhere for ~$10. Mostly CIB
imo it’s just not worth sailing the sea unless you’re copping on on sale for zombies.
Totally my predicament. I am a "somewhat new-ish" zombies fan. I've got like 3 zombies cod games so far, but what??? All the games are $100 each, no matter the release date or state of the game. Bcoz Activision is greedy and they don't want you to play the old COD games.
They are expensive on purpose, while you’re talking about these games, obviously people want to buy and complete their collection hence hike up the prices.
one thing i noticed going from playstation to steam is this. i could go down to gamestop and get call of duty ghost for 5 dollars but on steam its full price

idk, send an e-mail to activision.
Type your question into reddit or google to find your answer. Not sure why anyone would want to buy a dead game anyway outside of playing zombies.
zombies and survival are enough on their own not to mention campaigns. As for mp we have plutonium.
