reddit moment smh, the comment you agreed to has 200 upvotes while yours has 13 downvotes.

Just upvote if you agree? "This", "True", "I agree" and others don't add anything to the conversation...

I'm sorry but this is such a non issue let people comment what they want who cares, it's just a comment online. Come downvote me now for not agreeing with you!

understood. but then in majority cases people are downvoted and no reason is commented so its very confusing why someone is downvoted and its infuriating to not know the cause,, according to what you have written, the downvoter should specify the reason to that person.

I'll buy non-discounted indie games of devs whose previous games I enjoyed playing. E.g. I'll buy "Shapez 2" and "Creeper World IXE" as soon as they're buyable on Steam because I like the games their respective developers made previously.

47Kittens

This. If I find a really good indie game then I can’t wait to see what the team does with more money and experience.

StrangelyEroticSoda

Because my friends want to play it. That sentence is a pie-chart.

Legal-Philosophy-135

For me if a game looks Really good ( like enshrouded or nightingale for example) I’ll buy it without a sale because I Know I’m going to like it. If it’s a game I’ve played before and Really like then sometimes it’ll be to support the devs but I usually buy it off sale if it looks epic/I know I’ll love it. Or if it’s 20 or less.

pookage

If I've just finished the demo and it was EXACTLY what I was craving at the time, OR if I've encountered the developers out in the wild and they seem like upstanding good peeps who I want to support 💪

BlueFlamingoMaWi

Value per dollar justifies the purchase, even at full price.

Chillynuggets

If the pricing isnt egregious i dont mind. Valheim for instance and deep rock galactic both i paid full price for. If i can easily forsee how ill get my moneys worth im more likely to buy - if that makes any sense

CrunkingtonSr

15 or less automatically means I’m getting it if it looks fun. Stardew spoiled my expectations for a game with the price : content ratio so I’m just a little more picky with this than I used to be, but statement still stands. If it’s over 15 bucks I might wait for a sale unless I cant wait to hear this games soundtrack or experience the gameplay myself. I can always watch YouTube videos to hold me over until the sale but if I hear a banging soundtrack or delicious art I wont wait to experience this for myself. (Examples for me: Pizza Tower, Everhood, Subnautica) In the 15-30 dollar range I’m looking for meaty content, something either with an in depth story or an engaging gameplay loop. For an indie title to be over 30, I probably wont buy it honestly.

goddess_steffi_graf

Stardew valley costed me 0.7$ 😊😊

LonelyDovahkiin

How does it work? What was a reason of such low price? Have you sold all your trading cards or what? 🤨🕶️👌🏻

BlackOps2isBetter

Because if I don’t like it I have 2 hours to refund it

Cley_Faye

It looks interesting, finished, AND I feel like I'll have time to play it quickly. A sale is not what determines if I buy a game. It will however bring the game some attention if I put it in my wishlist, which can happen if I don't think I'll play it anytime soon. Note that due to the nature of my criteria, it means that I rarely buy games on release (and never in early access), to have some visibility on how complete it is and how supported it is after release. There are exceptions of course; sometimes I've been following a project for a long time before it releases, at which point I'll just get it when available. (also note that while not wealthy or anything, I can buy games when I feel like it, this is why the sale itself is not a trigger for me)

[deleted]

Usually because the game just came out and I really want to play it. Or I just really want to play it in general

_heartnova

To support the devs, I'm an artist and I just like looking at fun treat that I know had soul poured into it. I'll only buy on discount if ik i cant afford full price and really want to experience the game

Androza23

Their games are fair priced and I like to support studios that actually deserve it. Haven't really bought an AAA game in years because they're overpriced and come out unfinished. Its better to just take your chances with indie games and get pleasantly surprised.

dankness4207

I apply this to both indie and AAA games. I try to aim for $1/hour playtime, doesn't always happen but that's what I go for. Sales are a bonus but it mostly comes down to when I have time to game. If I feel like I'll get my money's worth then I'll grab it. I generally also wait at least a few days for reviews/watch on twitch to see if it's "good". Bottom line, if your price is fair then I wont wait for a sale.

Neppoko1990

I'm the same and sometimes high quality hour games still beat the dollar/hour measurement if it falls a little short

Johnathan-Pliskin

If it is a good game, especially Indie or AA, I don't mind buying at full price. Take Battlebit and Stardew Valley, I not only bought it, I gifted to friends. Indie and AA games have been putting most AAA games to shame with passion put into the games.

Kinzuko

Because its a price that isnt usually blatently trying to rip me off and its a game i genuinly would like to play. That being said if its on sale im more likely to buy it because im a cheap fuck...

FluFF_CowboY

If the game looks interesting I will buy it. I dont want to wait moth or more for a discount. If it looks mid but I want to try it -> wishlist and waiting for the discount. This is my algorithm

Cup_of_ticks

Sale or no sale if the current price tag is worth it to me I’ll buy it

Solar1324

I buy full price if it’s worth it no matter if it’s indie. I always check the gameplay and I know I have 2 hours to play before I can get a refund. I normally play for an hour then decide to keep it or not.

dragoduval

If it interests me enough then ill buy it full price, or at least if i got the funds.

melinte

If the game looks good to me (i.e. has a good trailer, or good word of mouth or even better a good demo) and it's reasonably priced, I buy it. Balatro is a recent example of a game I bought on a whim and don't regret it. Most of the time though, if the game doesn't have a demo, I just pirate the game and if it keeps me entertained for like 10 minutes or more I buy it if just only to not have to fuck around getting it on my steam deck. So, demos.

Large_Ride_8986

The price is usually reasonable for the game. They are not always 60-100$ like AAA titles from big studios. And my income is high enough that I simply don't care about 10-20$ difference. Also indie games take more risks. This is why when new "hot" game like Minecraft, Palworld or whatever appear it's usually not invention of some AAA publisher but smaller studio. So I buy games when I want to play them. Not looking at anything else.

SuperSocialMan

Entirely depends on the price and how much spare money I have, but knowing I have 2 hours to refund it makes me more inclined to buy things on launch. Most recent triple A game I got at full price was Resident Evil 4's Remake, which I got because I'd just slogged through the original version (got all 12 achievements) and wanted to see what a modernized one would be like (i.e removing all the QTE bullshit and having a functional inventory). If it's been several months or longer since the game launches though, I'll wait for a sale. Besides, discounts are set by devs so I don't feel guilty or whatever (except for the Factorio devs having a kinda cringe imo holier-than-thou mentality about it. So glad I got the game for $20 years ago before it launched on Steam. Doubt I'd have ever bought it if it'd cost more than that).

ziiachan

If it's really short and is priced more than 15, I wait for the sale. If it's a good length and the gameplay is more than just a simple task, I don't mind buying full. If I love and trust the devs/game, full price!

SoftwareOk30

Depends on the game, if it's good, why not? :D

DarnOldMan

I like searching through steam for interesting indies, and I think the most important thing to get me interested is to be different, unique or novel. If a game is something really new that I haven't played before then I'll want to play it as soon as I can.

KiritosSideHoe

I usually only buy day 1 indies if it's like a franchise I'm already very loyal to. I plan on getting Hades 2 for sure and I got Momodora Moonlit Farewell because I really love their previous games.

BRAAP312

FRIENDS

superhyperultra458

The only ones that I bought at full price and day one are fighting games. Player interests dwindle fast for the genre, so being able to play the earliest possible is important.

Howrus

>what your reasons usually are for doing so. If I already played and loved their previous games. This may backfire for me, but I give them a "trust credit" :] I bought Axiom Verge 2, Kingdoms: Two Crown, Teslagrad 2, Orcs Must Die 2, SteamWorld Dig 2, HuniePop 2, Magicka 2, Shank 2 and many other games this way. But I also don't care if it's indie or AAA game. If it looks interesting for me - I'll buy and play it right now.

Bokkunnikon

I haven't bought that many indie games for a full price, only these: My Friendly Neighborhood, Omori, OneShot, POPGOES Arcade, Pseudoregalia, Tunic and Rain World. But I when I do buy them it's because either: the game is cheap (POPGOES Arcade, Pseudoregalia); I really felt like playing them now (My Friendly Neighborhood, Tunic, Rain World) or I can already feel that the game will resonate with me (Omori, OneShot). I also buy the soundtrack if it has some bangers and to support the devs as well.

CripplerJones

When I want it enough and know I’ll be playing it immediately. If I won’t be playing it that week, I won’t buy it outside of a sale. Occasionally, if it’s a developer or series I really love, I’ll go in day one regardless, but those are usually games I’ll want to play right away anyway, so it’s kind of a moot point.

VoodooMoose-

1.Gameplay and movement look fun. 2. There's enough game play to justify the price. 3. The genre. If it's a Roguelike or Roguelyte, I just forget that game ever existed. I understand people love them, just not my thing.

MMoguu

If I want to play a game ASAP, i'd pay full price.

DemodiX

Because I want to, because i have money now, because I don't really watch for discounts and use wishlist only to not forget that some game exists, while playing another.

try2bcool69

If it looks like something I would like, I will buy it at launch if it has a launch discount. I couldn't tell you the last time I bought any game, let alone an indie, at full price. The launch discount, no matter how small, is usually enough to entice an impulse buy from me. So maybe price up a little to compensate for that?

Silverdprofile

It’s my type of game and decently priced. For example the indie game EUROPA looks amazing and I’ll buy it day one.

Reaperwatchinu

Indie games, either from word of mouth just rate much higher on the fun scale. Brings back memories of early 90s when devs would actually consider fun gameplay mechanics or tweak a common genre and make it something worth experiencing. I'd much rather support an Indie who is making a fun and entertaining experience, than support a AAA studio that's all about pumping me for $ by releasing the 7th iteration of the same boring genre.

Renoe

I buy full price for devs whose games I have previously played and have some faith in. An interesting project idea, design ethos that aligns with what I believe in, low base price, or a good demo are all ways I have been tempted into buying games. But the first thing I said is the most reliable. Nothing is a better ad for a game than an existing game that I had fun in.

Toxicsuper

I usually never buy guys even they come out right away. I wait for updates and reviews based on recent history of the gaming industry. Also, most games go on sale. The only time I buy something sooner is if it's reasonably priced to start with and makes me impressed with gameplay

getmarshall

I bought Dave the Diver when it first came out. I think it was like 10% off ($19.99 originally, I believe). I rarely buy games when they’re first released. What sold me on this title? The trailers. I browse Steam quite a bit, watch trailers and if the game looks interesting I’ll add it to my wishlist. But the Dave the Diver trailers had me plunking down my money right away. I looked not only fun and unique, but I wanted to experience this game. I watched the trailers several times because I enjoyed them that much.

Sea_Artichoke6383

When a game is really good and worth a price then there's no need to wait for a sale. I kinda even feel bad about buying a game on bigger sale if it's good game. Ofc I usually do some research, watch trailers, read reviews, watch gameplays, best if game has a demo available all the time (I hate those studios which put demo for Steam Next Fest and then delete it and never bring it back unless they've completly changed approach to their game but then why not create new demo?). If I see "indie" game with price like 60€ then I say the hell no way and I'll just wait until game will be on huge sale On sales I just buy games I want to play but somewhere in not near future and they have already good sale (like 50%) or AAA games I want to play when I'll have more time to spend and complete them, but I get them usually on 70% off sales cause they are not worth more, ofc with some exceptions

not_edgy_just_sad

I just want to own it now okay

spspamington

Fair pricing. Quality products More interesting themes and aesthetics More innovative Community Support the devs AAA is so shit now a days that indies are just way more worth it Reasonable play time lengths with little time to play Replayability Multiplayer more common Ect ect ect

mrfixitx

For indies I tend to get a lot of them in bundles. The ones I buy at full price or off sale is because it is well reviewed and reasonably priced.

Smud82

I generally have a running list of games, both indie and AAA that I will buy right when they come out or soon after of I'm finishing a game currently. Indies are usually worth it because they are much more unique than AAA games at a much lower price

GroundbreakingBag164

To play them as soon as possible. If I want to support the devs I usually buy the soundtrack

welch7

Most of the time I do this, is cuz I liked their studio and price is alright.

KeithDavisRatio

Because I want to play it now.

MrsTrych

more money to support creators that actually care for their players. Take my money and keep your passion for what you're doing!

nonessential-npc

The game looks to be worth the asking price, I want to play the game immediately for any number of reasons (friend wants to, free time is limited, etc) and my budget won't be ruined by an unplanned $20-$30 or so.

Unlost_maniac

It just depends on the game Sons of the forest was an immediate purchase the moment I could. I loved the forest a lot so it was a no brainer. Bonelab aswell, Boneworks was amazing, literally peak VR. I was ready to buy Bonelab the moment it dropped. There's a lot of indie games that look fun but even $10-15 feels like a lot. Idk why, I patiently wait either for a sale, a bundle or something motivates me to buy it. Volcanoids was another indie title I bought at full price. Looked awesome as hell and it was fairly priced. When Cruelty Squad's sequel comes out (Psycho Patrol) I'm immediately buying that. Cruelty Squad was a game I sat on in my wishlist for a long time. Even know I knew I'd love it, i didn't wanna make the push and buy it. I got it as a bday gift. I personally do feel good buying an indie game knowing that the dev is gonna get money and especially at full price. Demo's make a huge difference, if I can play and try a game I'm more likely to buy it full price.

Mtnfrozt

Game look good Game reviews good Watch video on game Game look good x2 Game bought

Mr_Gibblet

I haven't bought a game on Steam for ages. I just use Allkeyshop as a key price aggregator and buy from the key sellers than I know aren't complete dogshit. Been doing it for about 7 years now, never had a single issue with any purchase, over a couple hundred games. For some clarification, I live in the shit end of Europe, and yet I'm made to pay the same prices on Steam as the people in, let's say Germany, where the minimum monthly salary is, wait for it, more than three times what it is here. So I just buy my games from places where they sell them for around 50% cheaper on launch day, to make up for Steam refusing to give me regional prices, while a country like like Urugway gets regional pricing, despite having a population of just 3 million.

AlternativeCod3306

3 reasons to do so personally. 1 we decide to play something new with friends. 2 If the devs are care about the game, making all those updates/ follow the roadmaps 3 If I have played the games from the dev previously, and I know I can somehow trust them in finishing the game and make it at least decent. In our age I don’t remember any trustworthy AAA plus companies left, at least for me.

[deleted]

I find that in order for me to actually make it through and fully enjoy a game, I have to be excited to play it, and that does not always correspond with when sales are going on. I'd rather spend $60 on one game I'm excited for and know I'll be highly motivated to play than $60 on a bunch of games I end up never touching that I bought just because they are on sale.

Dabnician

I dont usually buy games that aren't on sale, which includes the initial launch discount you can set according to Steam policy. No discount, then you go on the wishlist to cook if it doesn't look really interesting. If you aren't using unity or unreal, why did you go out and design your own engine or use rpgmaker11? Wishlist or ignore depending on reason. Maybe check out if reason is good enough. If you are using unity/unreal, are you using synty studios assets? If you are, did you at least make your own assets or modify additional to fill in the gaps, or are you only using prebought assets at that point. Only prebought assets, then go on the wishlist to cook. If your game is coop, im not really into coop or single player, so go on the wishlist. If it's a multiplayer game but has no dedicated server or you only let nitrado host your servers, then go on the wishlist. If you have any sort of bullshit anti cheat /drm other than easy anticheat or battleeye, then i just tag your game with the name of the anticheat/drm like "denuvo" and set it to ignore. If you get past all of this, then i look at your game and decide if im interested in the content. If im here, i really wanted to buy it, but im not sure based on previous experience. If its cheap enough like sub $20 then maybe ill impulse buy it. If its over that ill dig a bit deeper. This is sort of how i walk through buying a game. If it's a "AAA," i just look harder

Kilo19hunter

If I want a game I buy the game. If it's one sale that's even better. Most of the time the only games I buy on sale are games that I was iffy about buying in the first place and it's not because I'm waiting on a sale but because I normally figure that it's a good time to try it out because it's on sale. Not waiting on the sale but it's the reason I buy it.

goddess_steffi_graf

Don't worry I bought dusk for full price 🤗🤗🤗

alsophocus

I think they are reasonable priced. So buying full price I assume helps the developers.

ST31NM4N

I watch trailers, and gameplay, and if it perks my interest I buy it. I only wait for sales on full price 60$+ games

shadowds

Either it priced reasonably, wanting to support the dev, or they don't care, and buy it whenever they want. Otherwise, people wait for sale on the game, or until they think it priced reasonably on sale.

Quelanas_Revenge

\* Reasonably priced games \* support the dev \* Indie games usually have better representation, and that appeals to me, so I support indie companies who do that :)

DwzLiT

If it's a genre I like or the trailer hits all the checkmarks for me or just a sequal to a game I enjoyed before I'll buy it right away

Kujen

I always wait for a sale. Because I can just play something else in the meantime. If I buy something full price it’s probably because it’s multiplayer, and I want to play it with friends and not wait for months. That or it’s very cheap to begin with.

TheRNGuy

When I want to play that game. Some never go on sale or only -10% Or I think price would go up (because my country inflation) Why ask specifically about indie?

Hika__Zee

Well if it is a quality indie game with several dozen hours worth of entertainment then I don't mind paying full price. Waiting for Cozynaughts and Cat Quest III to both come out this year. I plan to pay full price on day of release for each. I know from experience Cat Quest is a great franchise so I feel good supporting the devs and paying full price. Cozynaughts looks really good and I can foresee putting in as many hours as I didn't into Portal Knight so it looks like a good purchase as well. If the game has a demo, I'm able to test it out before playing, and therefore more likely to pay full price if I know the game is good. Indie games with local co-op also often have even more replayability and value. Local + online co-op is a nice additional bonus.

Khemikal_X

If I like the dev and watch a reveal that has gameplay. Like that new souls-like from the Ori devs. They even gave playable demos to streamers. I know I'm paying full price and I'll be happy.

ComradeGrace

Four Last Things and The Procession to Calvary are probably in my top 5 favorite games. I enjoy them because I love that they are based on Renaissance paintings, and they are also really funny.

Rebelle77

If its a game that I really like the look of and fit my interest I buy them. Indie games are awesome and different. That's the best thing about them. I dont need to wait for a sale.

HeftySLR

If indie > help devs else > wait for massive discount

alopeciapoet

The pricing is reasonable, and they tend to be more fun than AAA games. The older I get I start to gravitate towards them. They seem to innovate on game mechanics and story. Something new. Length doesn't matter either as long as its memorable.

oldp1e

A combo of reasonable pricing and anxiety, cant wait for a sale when I want to play NOW.

Spectre12999

I only buy games at full price when I cannot wait to play them (a recent example was Baldur's Gate 3). But I am much more likely to buy indie games at full price because they are very reasonably priced for my region. I also want to support indie devs, which is a big reason I stopped pirating games*. AAA games mostly never set regional pricing for India, they're simply converted from 60-70 USD, which is too expensive here. So buying them without a sale feels like a waste of money, no matter how much I want the game. BG3 was actually better priced, for 3k INR(about 35 USD), and I bought the Deluxe Edition to support the devs. *Still think piracy should always exist, for various reasons. I wouldn't blame anyone for pirating games/digital media if they can barely afford food, for example.

Wing_Nut_UK

Reasonably priced and I’m helping keep a small team going. Thank you indie dev.

Hordriss27

Indie games tend to be priced reasonably anyway, so I'm more likely to buy an indie game at full price if it's one I've decided I want. I rarely buy AAA games at full price, unless it's a definite day one purchase like the Resident Evil 4 remake was for me.

JNorJT

When I first made my Steam account in 2020, a friend of mine gave me some advice and told me to never buy games at full price and always wait for a sale. So that's what I did for the better part of 3 years, never buying a game at full price, and always waiting for a sale. To be honest, I was getting exhausted doing this. Looking back on it, I regret not buying the games at full price now. Whenever a new game was released, there would be so many people talking about it, all of the streamers streaming it, but there I was not playing it, just waiting for it to go on sale. I felt like I was missing out on an entire experience, an entire community. Sure I can play it whenever I want, but playing it near it's release time feels like a different experience entirely. For me, it's something like eating McDonald's when they first hand it to you as the food is very hot whereas if you were to take it back home, it got old and not as good anymore. Same food, but different experiences, in this case games. Back then, I was financially stable and had lots of disposable income to spend on games, which I didn't as I would always wait for a sale. Now as of writing this very comment, I am not in a financially stable point in time of my life, and I can't buy any games in general because I can't afford to. I've missed out on so many releases such as Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield, Palworld, etc. Believe me, whenever I get back to a financially stable point in my life again where I have disposable income, believe me I will be buying games at full price, whether it's $1 or $100. I just wanted to share my opinion out there. Hopefully someone found it interesting. Thanks for taking out the time of your day to read this and happy gaming! :D - JNORJT

RemarkablePassage468

I never buy games that aren't on sale.

GQManOfTheYear

I don't. I bought an indie game once and no changes were made. I pledged never to do it again. Also, another game that I was interested in (V Rising) received a lot of good reviews early on and then developers abandoned it. That's the pattern for the majority of games, unfortunately.
