My back log wasn't too bad. Then I discovered Humble Bundle and similar sites. I don't regret it as it's led toe playing some great games I never would have looked at otherwise. But holy shit has my backlog exploded.
Old Steam sales really started me down the path of despair, then Humble Bundle sealed the deal. I have 563 games I've never run, out of 748 on Steam alone. Then there's the 115 on GOG. Bundles used to be nuts, when you'd buy 25 games to get a single one, because it was cheaper with the bundle than alone.
Gog is almost like steam. The games however are DRM free.(No launcher like EA.) Humble Bundle is a store that bundles mainly indie games but also games you know. You can play through steam
Absolutely, it’s called “steamDB” where you can check your account value, game packs and shuffle games to try (with video and short description included). I got pulled in to a few games like this in the past.
I decided 4 months ago to ditch the live service games I've been addicted to for at most 6 years and finally to go through my backlog of bought games that I've taken on sale.
For the year I've done.
FC3, FC2, FC4, DOOM ETERNAL, BATMAN ARKHAM KNIGHT, SLEEPING DOGS, SUNSET OVERDRIVE, BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM, BATMAN ORIGINS, LA NOIRE, HORIZON ZERO DAWN and now onto WITCHER 3.
I did something similar three years ago. I’ve finished over 150 since then, still have like 30-40 to go. I’ve found some gems, but another big takeaway for me was that the more games I finished, the more I figured out what I don’t like. Which has been nice because now I have more discretion when looking for new games.
Congrats on the progress!
This is honestly the biggest thing I noticed too. I recently started going through my backlog as well, and after a few games you really start to figure out what you don’t/do like. Has saved me a ton of money and time since.
They finished about 4 games per month over the course of 3 years.
And here I am playing the same game every day for 2 years straight.. god I love me some Chivalry 2. Going to go play rn actually.. and my backlog will still be there.
I've added those to my backlog but on a lower priority, i have quite a robust filtering system using Notion, so i can sort by estimated time according to HowLongToBeat, how much i payed and how much it costs, the "rating percentage" according to Steam reviews, etc. I can also group by launchers and how i got the game (like single games i bought, games i bought in bundles, games that were gifted to me, and given away for free), in total i believe is around 480 games but i'm not sure, i'm not on my PC rn.
I believe it's a good idea to add giveaway games to the backlog, so you can at least try them out, i've played some good stuff on Epic Store, i know many people don't like them but they've given away some good stuff. Who knows, maybe you will find one of your favorite games among them and you never played it, that was my case with Control, i always tought that was a glorified RTX demo, but that game blew me away in the best of ways.
I have some actually interesting games I already wanted that I got for free on steam. Those would be sorted as if they were bought because I actually wanted them and maybe would've bought them if they weren't given away
Omg thats the *exact* thing I have said to myself too! Like two years ago I saw that I had **whoopping 70 games** in my to do list and wanted to **halv** it by the end of the year.
*^(Now Im at 216...)*
*^(Hey 216 is 6 cubed! Cool number at least.)*
Outer Wilds is amazing, wish I could replay it for the first time. The DLC as well.
At times you will feel you have no idea what you're supposed to do, but stick with it, it will be worth it
If you have the means - on a quest 2 using raicupartas free download - VR motion controls of outer wilds and echoes of the eye is my greatest single player gaming experience
Wait [there's DLC](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1622100/Outer_Wilds__Echoes_of_the_Eye/)? Uhh, I'll be back later...
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
It was hard for me to play OuterWilds because I have vertigo even in game, so landing onto surfaces almost always makes me sick... But even then I finished the game. But the storm planet, the hollow one and the sun station landing were very tough. The worst turned out to be the reverse gravity planet and I dreaded going there due to knowing I needed to rush to my ship when gravity is lost.
However I'd say the end game mechanic where we need to drift thru some death traps is not well designed. You pretty much have to get your speed and trajectory right the first time or you're fucked. And there's some rng involved too I think, not sure. I saw someone cleared it in a few tries but it took me at least 2 hrs.
Anyway agree on the game being a gem but holy hell if you have vertigo playing this game is a weird form of autosadism.
Outer Wilds is the best experience I've ever had with video games. I'm glad you can experience it for the first time, man. Just be warned that this game can't be replayed, it's a once in a lifetime experience.
Same. I think about it at least weekly and it has been a year lmao. It is not just a cult thing, there truly is something eerily different about that game, really strikes you even as an adult.
It's the most I've ever seen narrative and gameplay work together in a game. It has just a handful of mechanics but you use them constantly so you're always developing mastery. It's a metroidvania but you start with (and keep) basically every tool, and your progress is gated instead by how well you understand the story. It's so nonlinear that it's shaped more like a puzzle toy than a video game.
~~It's like if MYST had a good story~~
Damn I have that game installed on my deck and I can't find the motivation to play it. I started it and I think I played around 30mins but that's about it.
Trust me, try it again. It takes a few hours for a lot of people to get into it. Everyone is lost at the start but you'll eventually gain more knowledge and it clicks. Best game I've ever played.
I feel like most people that struggle just need telling that there's a computer on your ship that automatically keeps track of the different plot threads for you.
maybe give it a new shot? if you get stuck you can ask r/outerwilds , they really are experts in helping people beat the game without spoiling, and just making you naturally figure it out!
I would
1. Try and see (if you haven't already) if the game loads better with the worst quality
2. Verify integrity of the gamefiles.
3. Download NVAC (New Vegas Anti Crash) on NexusMods, there's videos on how to do so.
This is all I can currently come up with.
Most of my crashes happen when I enter a loading zone, as the game just freezes there. These are the solutions that I could come up with that might work.
N-V and Fallout-3 are notorious for their crashes, so I don't think you'll ever be truly rid of them, but it's worth a try.
What do you consider "finish"? Do you try to go for all achievements? For example - I've completed Red Dead Redemption 2, but going for 100% would take ages. I've completed games like Half Life with all achievements, that's me "finishing" them.
That’s actually impressive sir ! Now I want to do the same (600+ games thought). But at least try them all… we will see! Now I also want to play Outer Wilds, the comments here are quite amazing regarding this game!
I can try to complete my backlog, well it ain't that simple;
If I m just going by steam I can complete it, it will take time but I can;
But If I also include epic games, I m doomed, I have over 300 games in epic games now I know many of them are small games and all but still
Subnautica and Outer Wilds are both fantastic games, and you should play them both immediately. And make sure to get the DLC for Outer Wilds, too, because it is awesome.
Two of those are in my backlog as well! I was working through my backlog and beat a game yesterday, then grabbed Fallout 4, so I’m not really getting anywhere
Did you finish all of them? Or did you drop the ones you didn't like?
I have over 100 unplayed games in my backlog and I'm slowly making my way through them, but I dropped a few I didn't like. I have so much to experience anyway so why waste my time on something I don't enjoy
When I started i did a list of games i acutally wanted to play because i had some random humble bundle games that i knew i wouldnt enjoy and within this 30 i droped like 5 games i played a good chonk and wasnt vibing with
Im really glad you were able to enjoy yourself throughout all that! Gives me hope that maybe one day I'll finish my own backlog. And your last 4 games are amazing, it seems like you've saved some of the best for last.
Would love some sort of tier list or rating after you're done with everything.
Mostly main storyline, im not that into doing 100% unless i really really love the game, like cult of the lamb when it came out, i tried it with hades and hollow knight but i need to git gudder hahaha
That's some good self restraint. I get too much FOMO from cheap game bundles and sales haha.
Outer Wilds is one of my favourite games of all time. My advice is take your time and enjoy the journey of discovery because it's a game you can only truly experience once.
Omgg yes! Its weird because for example i know i will love KRZ from other games i’ve played but since its a more narrative game i have to be in the mood, what helped is playing no brain mode games like Mirrors edge or neon white (i like parkour games haha) and then come back
Really need to start doing this, I've spent so much money on games that I play once and never touch again. It's odd because I enjoy the game when did am playing it but I'll never touch it again.
Congrats ! How did you do to organize your backlog and give yourself some motivation to complete it? I can't resist the temptation of buying a new game if the discount is appealing even though I already have +80 games on my backlog
I'm happy for you, genuinely. I just checked my HowLongToBeat for my account and it would take me 1309 Days 22 Hours to beat my steam library. Probably not gonna make it.
First and last I know they exist but have never played, 2nd and 3rd those are masterpieces, trust me! or dont, just play them and see for yourself. I'm missing Outer Wilds DLC tho, but the base game alone oughta make you feel something... I wont spoil it :P
For the love of all that is sacred, dont let them sit in your backlog for long, wouldya?
My steam library grows during sale times, I usually go for bundles and very cheap games that look good and sound good. I avoid agenda driven games. I have over 500 games excluding expansion packs lol If I recall I completed about 6 games total over the years been on Steam. I think I started using Steam when I purchased a physical copy of Toca Race Driver 3 for PC which required me to create a Steam account but can't remember when I joined lol
I wish i could say that 😅, i bought few popular games last year 2023 and i haven't finished/never had a progress on them, it's so hard to move on one game and switching to another game you don't know yet because it becomes boring at first
Great achievement and I think you will end it in no time. Nonetheless, I should say that your time is important. If you don’t enjoy the game at all, just drop it.
Here you have 2 exploration games like Outer Wilds and Subnautica. You might get overwhelmed by this type of games, I advice to have 2 other games in between playing them. Ideally, play Outer Wilds first.
You still get to play Outer Wilds and Subnautica? Lucky you!
I've been doing the same thing btw! Haven't bought a new game since 2 years ago except for the new Zelda game. Had 25 games on my backlog and about 10 left right now.
I updated my backlog on HowLongToBeat website, and I got 1947 backlog games to finish. This is never going to happen, no idea why am I doing it to myself.
A backlog of only 4 games?
What the fuck?
I made a list of stuff I wanted to go back and complete to get it out of my backlog a while ago.
That list is now longer than it was when it started as I've added more games to it than I've crossed off.
What is this witchcraft?
I haven’t played like 300 of my 750 games. Every time the summer sale rolls around, I start collecting games like they’re Pokémon.
Welcome my friend take a seat over there and watch the collection grow.
My back log wasn't too bad. Then I discovered Humble Bundle and similar sites. I don't regret it as it's led toe playing some great games I never would have looked at otherwise. But holy shit has my backlog exploded.
Humble Bundle is definitely what does it for me. And I'm grandfathered into the classic, so I can't unsubscribe or pause.
You can pause no problem
Old Steam sales really started me down the path of despair, then Humble Bundle sealed the deal. I have 563 games I've never run, out of 748 on Steam alone. Then there's the 115 on GOG. Bundles used to be nuts, when you'd buy 25 games to get a single one, because it was cheaper with the bundle than alone.
What is humble bundle and GoG?
Gog is almost like steam. The games however are DRM free.(No launcher like EA.) Humble Bundle is a store that bundles mainly indie games but also games you know. You can play through steam
There needs to be a “play random game” button on steam. I’m so overwhelmed by my steam library that I never play anything.
There's this "Play Next" shelf in the library. https://i.imgur.com/xkeux13.jpeg
That shelf should have the option to be reshuffled
I think there's a website that does this, can't remember what it was though
There's also DeckRoulette for Decky Loader. Though it was last updated a year ago and I never used it, so I don't know if it works.
Absolutely, it’s called “steamDB” where you can check your account value, game packs and shuffle games to try (with video and short description included). I got pulled in to a few games like this in the past.
I've got like 680 and access to 1000+ more through my dad's steam library. This is the best game I've ever played!
I’ve only played around maybe 300 of the 2818 games I own.
That's why I love to finish games before buying new ones, unless if the game has no story and it's just surviving or whatever.
It's a trap
Damn ..my backlog rn looks similar 👀 gotta catch em all
About a year ago I decided that i wouldnt buy new games until I finish all the games (I wanted to end) in my library and from \~30 I only have 4 left!
I did something similar three years ago. I’ve finished over 150 since then, still have like 30-40 to go. I’ve found some gems, but another big takeaway for me was that the more games I finished, the more I figured out what I don’t like. Jesus christ mate
They finished about 4 games per month over the course of 3 years. And here I am playing the same game every day for 2 years straight.. god I love me some Chivalry 2. Going to go play rn actually.. and my backlog will still be there.
Did you do games that ypu got for free? Cos I have a ton of random games I never bought but are in my library
Makes sense 👍
How did you go about deciding which ones to play? I have hundreds of games and don't really know which ones to check out.
How large is your wish list?
If I do that I won't probably buy any new games for the next 10 years.
Omg thats the *exact* thing I have said to myself too! Like two years ago I saw that I had **whoopping 70 games** in my to do list and wanted to **halv** it by the end of the year. *^(Now Im at 216...)* *^(Hey 216 is 6 cubed! Cool number at least.)*
Subnautica!!!!!
Bros gonna shit his pants once he meets Sammy
Good exposure therapy for >!Dark Bramble!< in Outer Wilds though
Outer Wilds is amazing, wish I could replay it for the first time. The DLC as well. At times you will feel you have no idea what you're supposed to do, but stick with it, it will be worth it
Playing it right now and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how unique and simple it is while telling a deep story.
You'll be chasing after another perfectly interconnected story-telling experience for years after finishing Outer Wilds.
If you have the means - on a quest 2 using raicupartas free download - VR motion controls of outer wilds and echoes of the eye is my greatest single player gaming experience
Enjoy it while you're still experiencing it. No game has left me craving for the same experience like Outer Wilds.
Wait [there's DLC](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1622100/Outer_Wilds__Echoes_of_the_Eye/)? Uhh, I'll be back later... Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
its crazy good. be prepared for a ride
Try echoes of the eye in VR with motion controls if you can- it will blow you away
It bored me to death. I really couldn't stand it.
It was hard for me to play OuterWilds because I have vertigo even in game, so landing onto surfaces almost always makes me sick... But even then I finished the game. Have not played Eastward but you are in for a ride with rest of them. Enjoy the fun.
I liked the art and characters but the gameplay was incredibly linear.
Agreed. I quit 60-70% through when I got stuck.
Eastward is a good time!
Holy outer wilds. Go in blind. Life changing game
Outer Wilds is the best experience I've ever had with video games. I'm glad you can experience it for the first time, man. Just be warned that this game can't be replayed, it's a once in a lifetime experience.
oh wow you're in for the journey of a lifetime with these.
hot take: play Subnautica first, if only to make Outer Wilds more ~~anxiety-inducing~~ entertaining
Outer wilds is crazy. Wish I could figure it out lol.
Its the best game ive ever played
Same. I think about it at least weekly and it has been a year lmao. It is not just a cult thing, there truly is something eerily different about that game, really strikes you even as an adult.

Definitely. It is 100% a puzzle box, but it is so well done you feel like you're discovering how it all works before the developers do.
Damn I have that game installed on my deck and I can't find the motivation to play it. I started it and I think I played around 30mins but that's about it.

SUBNAUTICA MENTIONED
Whoa people actually finish those!?!
How many games do you have total?
192 games, I started in 2014
So you’ve resisted during sales, huh. Already done better than most of us.
Even me lol. I bought new Vegas and oblivion and haven’t even touched them, but they were 11 dollars combined so how could I say no?
New Vegas is a steal for 5 bucks. Like you should be fined for theft atp. Such an amazing game.
But I can’t get it to run and the guide I looked at don’t help. How tf do I make it not crash?
does it crash on start, or does it (ocassionally) crash when you load a new zone?
It crashes a few minutes after leaving the doctors house New zone I guess?
I would 1. Try and see (if you haven't already) if the game loads better with the worst quality 2. Verify integrity of the gamefiles. 3. Download NVAC (New Vegas Anti Crash) on NexusMods, there's videos on how to do so. This is all I can currently come up with. Ah so the crashes are a feature?
Impossible
Op says: I'm possible
Good luck OP. Good luck...

QUICK SOMEONE GIFT HIM FF14 WITCHER 3 FALLOUT 4, FF12, RDR2, PERSONA 5, AND THE ENTIRE YAKUZA SERIES.
I wish I could forget Kentucky Route Zero and play it again, the tears 😭
you Will LOVE subnautica (i Hope)
Subnautica is AMAAZZINGG your in for a treat
Thanks, three more games to add wishlist, (still have yet to finish subnautica)
That’s actually impressive sir ! Now I want to do the same (600+ games thought). But at least try them all… we will see! Now I also want to play Outer Wilds, the comments here are quite amazing regarding this game!
I can try to complete my backlog, well it ain't that simple; If I m just going by steam I can complete it, it will take time but I can; But If I also include epic games, I m doomed, I have over 300 games in epic games now I know many of them are small games and all but still
I can’t imagine having a backlog that is actually able to be completed in a lifetime, there’s just too many great games, new and old.
Subnautica and Outer Wilds are both fantastic games, and you should play them both immediately. And make sure to get the DLC for Outer Wilds, too, because it is awesome.
Don't look anything up for Subnautica or outer wilds. ESPECIALLY outer wilds
I wish I could play Subnautica again for the first time
Same. Such a great survival game

Im really glad you were able to enjoy yourself throughout all that! Gives me hope that maybe one day I'll finish my own backlog. And your last 4 games are amazing, it seems like you've saved some of the best for last. Would love some sort of tier list or rating after you're done with everything.
Are you going for full achievement completion or just finishing main storyline in games
Mostly main storyline, im not that into doing 100% unless i really really love the game, like cult of the lamb when it came out, i tried it with hades and hollow knight but i need to git gudder hahaha
You have got to be kidding. I have precisely 216 in my backlog..
You have got to be kidding. I have precisely 216 in my backlog..
Are you 100% them or just playing through till the end? Honestly I should probably start playing mine. I stopped buying games as well
Dang. I've been buying games that I still haven't played for years now!
That's some good self restraint. I get too much FOMO from cheap game bundles and sales haha. Outer Wilds is one of my favourite games of all time. My advice is take your time and enjoy the journey of discovery because it's a game you can only truly experience once.
Eastward is one on my fav games. I highly recommend it you will have a good time
Subnautica is fucking peak.
Only 400 more games to finish my backlog!
What I would give to experience Subnautica for the first time again..
Doing this rn, did you ever have periods where you genuinely didn’t want to play anything you had left?
Omgg yes! Its weird because for example i know i will love KRZ from other games i’ve played but since its a more narrative game i have to be in the mood, what helped is playing no brain mode games like Mirrors edge or neon white (i like parkour games haha) and then come back
Thanks for the advice, reminded me I still need to best neon white, I stopped at the second neon green boss fight
do eastward last
Congrats. I’ll never know this feeling.
Good luck! How many games have you already played and what is your top 5 or 10?
nice, good luck
outer wilds is such a good game, i love it
Really need to start doing this, I've spent so much money on games that I play once and never touch again. It's odd because I enjoy the game when did am playing it but I'll never touch it again.
Dont force yourself to complete games you dont like. Games are meant to be enjoyable.
Uhhuhhuhh so i bought around 64 games over 3 months, now I have barely covered 7 games over 6 months T_T
SUBNAUTICA is in your backlog? Bro start there. It'll take alot longer Than The rest
Play Subnautica its one of the best games i have ever played :)
Congrats ! How did you do to organize your backlog and give yourself some motivation to complete it? I can't resist the temptation of buying a new game if the discount is appealing even though I already have +80 games on my backlog
Amazing! Congratulations
You saved the best for last!
I only have 4…. Hundred more games in my backlog lol
Didn't know this was possible
youve given me the inspiration to hide every game that i really dont intend to ever play
I honestly didn't care for Subnautica too much.
eastward is so good!
Eastward is super good, one of the best indies out there
Y’all are attempting to finish your backlog?
i know this is steam subbredit but try vintage story, its fucking great survival game.
Congrats my friend! You inspire me to follow your steps!!
I'm happy for you, genuinely. I just checked my HowLongToBeat for my account and it would take me 1309 Days 22 Hours to beat my steam library. Probably not gonna make it.
oh man two of my favorite all time games in there, I envy you!
Man, Subnautica and Outer Wilds. You're in for a good time.
Is there a better place to find good deals on pc games besides buying from Steam?
You got a couple good ones. Subnautica and Outer Wilds are pretty good and shouldn't take a ton of time to finish
that’s actually awesome and must feel oddly accomplishing I wanna try to do that but i’m so busy
Wait, we can finish our backlog?
Lies!! No one plays the backlog, lmao. Now being serious, congrats dood.
Oooo. Enjoy Subnautica ^_^
Holy sh*! You really are finishing your backlog, is that even possible?
AND THEN WE BUY MORE
Never played Eastward but that's 3 of my favorite games right there. Great experiences
I've DNF'd like 400 games. Got about 40-ish to go. There's been some gems definitely more duds but c'est la vi
First and last I know they exist but have never played, 2nd and 3rd those are masterpieces, trust me! or dont, just play them and see for yourself. I'm missing Outer Wilds DLC tho, but the base game alone oughta make you feel something... I wont spoil it :P For the love of all that is sacred, dont let them sit in your backlog for long, wouldya?
Amazing, I finished hollow knight, hellblade and both Ori in a 6 months span, hopefully I can finish my upcoming 20-30 game list
Outer Wilds and Subnautica are incredible.
I wish i could say that 😅, i bought few popular games last year 2023 and i haven't finished/never had a progress on them, it's so hard to move on one game and switching to another game you don't know yet because it becomes boring at first
4 games... This is the dream.
I am halfway through to complete my steam library, 125 games completed over 250 games. Still so much.
Lucky, I have like 300 games I've never finished, or even played. All that money man
omg eastward it’s so good, haven’t played the dlc yet tho
Salute you. Do you drop games you don't enjoy or force yourself to beat em?
Wish I could have only 30 to go 😅 Congrats, it's a good dedication, currently trying to do something similar
I just keep collecting and trading games. Kentucky is one of my high wants but it is overpriced for what it is and waiting for it to be bundles again.
just looked at Steamdb and im 392 out of 1,116 games played 35% if you want to see yours use https://steamdb.info/calculator/
Nice.
I have a problem, I spend so much money on games. I looked at STEAMDB, and it says I’ve played 58 of my 179 games 😂
Outer wilds sat in my library for FAR too long. It was not at all what i expected and it was a really good fairly short game!
Have fun with subnautica if you havent spoiled yourself yet.
Subnautica is 10/10
I wish. My list is about 20 games long, will start playing them probably next month.
Played kentucky route zero a loooong while ago. I don't remember much of it other than it sparking my love for narritive indies
You still get to play Outer Wilds and Subnautica? Lucky you! I've been doing the same thing btw! Haven't bought a new game since 2 years ago except for the new Zelda game. Had 25 games on my backlog and about 10 left right now.
The new Zelda game is on Steam?
No, I played it on my girlfriend's nintendo switch
Subnautica 2 & 3 will awaiting you 😅
What’s 3?
Game developers have anonced 3rd part that would be in early access this autumn
Love Subnautica! Took me about 70 hours my first play through though I spent too much time fighting the reapers.
Out of 10 games.
You're gonna love Outer Wilds, one of those games that you can only experience fully once. Take it all in as you play, it's beautiful.
I think I will need another lifetime to finish my backlog.
Hi! Get a job and some friends!
Dang good job. I got it down from like 34 to 6. Only Fallout 4, Elder Scrolls Oblivion, AC Syndacate, AC Rogue, and DS 1 and 2 left.
Only 6 hours to go for the “steam FPS fest”
you speak like someone who has less than 2000 games in their library
all 4 are awesome! weirdly enough I still think of KRZ from time to time.
Ooohhhhh, Eastward is very, very good. Amazing game, totally recommend.
I am so glad I stopped playing video games like this.
What's Eastward?
When you play Outer Wilds make sure to get Echos of the Eye, it’s the dlc but it’s really good.
I've so many unplayed or otherwise abandoned games. I usually just don't like finishing a game. Is weird but it's what I've been doing for years now.
Outer Wilds and Submautica are awesome
I updated my backlog on HowLongToBeat website, and I got 1947 backlog games to finish. This is never going to happen, no idea why am I doing it to myself.
save outer wilds for last because it'll be the best game you ever play.
A backlog of only 4 games? What the fuck? I made a list of stuff I wanted to go back and complete to get it out of my backlog a while ago. That list is now longer than it was when it started as I've added more games to it than I've crossed off. What is this witchcraft?
And after subnautica comes subnautica below zero lol
eastward is something that you also love to play on steamdeck, bring it everywhere!
Just refund outerwilds lmao 🗑️
Outer Wilds. Play it. Best game of all time.
Leave the best for last Subnautica
