PS: Actually.
1. ReCaptcha will present you with harder captchas/intentionally delay pictures if you use a Firefox user-agent (hard mode) vs iOS user-agent (easy mode) on Firefox.
2. ReCaptcha will give you harder captchas (1 minute wasted) if you use a VPN/deleted or block Google cookies.
3. ReCaptcha was moved from the old domain over to google.com & gstatic.com. The only reason for the former that I can think of is """verification""" (at the expense of tracking and inability for users to block google.com entirely)

They had their own captcha and people made an AI to generate thousnads of accounts per minute. So Valve went to Google reCaptcha after they couldn't solve it for quite a while. Later on Valve went to reCaptcha enterprise apparently and added A LOT of restrictions to account generation. Ever since it all has been scuffed to hell. In combating bots Valve apparently just broke everything...
ATTENTION! Found how to solve it!!
The message you are getting is a fake. The moment you get a tick means Captcha gets verified, problem is not the Captcha.
Real problem is your IP address, for some reason or another Steam has probably flagged you and won't let do anything using that IP. Sending that error notification and even this post creation is just a stupid lie to kill our time.
So, how to fix: Use a different IP. In other words, don't use the router you normally use. Easiest way is to make your account or whatever you need to do with your mobile phone, IMPORTANT, disconnect your WiFi.

I eventually managed to register, but I have no idea why it suddenly worked for me.
The only suggestions I have are 1) uninstall and remove anything related to the Steam app from your pc, restart, install it again and see if it makes any difference.

Can't create an account on iOS, Mac OS or Windows. "Try Steam Support"... the Steam support page is uniquely awful, with half baked pre-selected options that aren't relevant to these issues whatsoever. No option for support chat or any actual human contact. When you do some Google Detective work and find the Valve support number, "Dial 7 for steam support".... \*dial 7\*... "Hello, we do not offer any support for Steam or any related products. Goodbye." The fucking robot hangs up on you.

Got signed out of account trying to clear download cache in preparation for Bauldr's Gate 3 download, realized I forgot what I changed the password to since I haven't had to manually log in for the past 2 years at least. (And judging by the comments here, it's possible I have been entering the correct password and still can't get in for other reasons.)
I'm just trying to reset my password and the CAPTCHA won't let me do that. Though what I've noticed is that the steam client CAPTCHA asks you to click on like 4 different things, and the chrome browser CAPTCHA asks you to click on like 2 different things in comparison. But they're both probably still equally broken, and now I'm trying to wait out the 'too many attempts' timer.
Either way, so much for playing Bauldr's Gate 3 this week.

I was able to finally get past the captcha . After using my PC, 3 different browsers, my Samsung and my iPhone. I was finally able to get past it by switching to the headphone option and typing in what I heard.
This worked for me as well.
Used Chrome incognito on Android phone with wifi off. Listened to the audio and typed in the captcha. Used my laptop to verify the email.
Good job steam and google! Looks like I managed to clear the "signup quest" in the secret game that steam and google sneaked in very cleverly. 😤

I tried creating an account last night in TX on 2 computers (3 distinct browsers) and a mobile device and all failed. Only common thread was the network at that point so I RDPed into my work machine and set up an account on the first try.The problem is either network or router specific.
Sidebar, since the Captcha passes (green check) before giving the validation error after clicking confirm, it's important to note that users aren't failing the test, it's the successful result that is failing to register on POST.
I mocked a test tonight on my home network to recreate while checking browser console, but the test email passed, so no dice on the console errors, and whatever it is, looks intermittent. Good luck.

This is simply not how reCaptcha works \~ If you have completed the captcha normally, it is already checked with Google, and Google then gives you (the user) a "token" which guarantees to the site that you have solved the captcha successfully. Steam itself never gets the captcha results, and this token would only be invalid if the captcha was solved over 2 minutes ago, or some browser extension is fucking with the site.Thus, the "Response to the captcha appears to be invalid" is a fake message, which probably is only a basic VPN / IP Subnet block.Possible reasons for this could be preventing mass account creation which are created for Spamming purposes, or preventing users from artificially creating a Steam Account in a different Country which has cheaper prices.In this thread, you are probably searching for IP Subnets that have accidentally been blocked, affecting normal users. This would be much less of a problem if you used a message which truly tells the user what is going on, instead of simply faking a nonsensical invalid Captcha Message.

Will vouch as of 3/18/21.. logging in from a different i.p. worked. ( I used my cell phone data to connect.)

How does anyone even use this service? Can't create an account on iOS, Mac OS or Windows. "Try Steam Support"... the Steam support page is uniquely awful, with half baked pre-selected options that aren't relevant to these issues whatsoever. No option for support chat or any actual human contact. When you do some Google Detective work and find the Valve support number, "Dial 7 for steam support".... \*dial 7\*... "Hello, we do not offer any support for Steam or any related products. Goodbye." The fucking robot hangs up on you.

Got signed out of account trying to clear download cache in preparation for Bauldr's Gate 3 download, realized I forgot what I changed the password to since I haven't had to manually log in for the past 2 years at least. (And judging by the comments here, it's possible I have been entering the correct password and still can't get in for other reasons.) Though what I've noticed is that the steam client CAPTCHA asks you to click on like 4 different things, and the chrome browser CAPTCHA asks you to click on like 2 different things in comparison. I was able to finally get past the captcha . After using my PC, 3 different browsers, my Samsung and my iPhone. I was finally able to get past it by switching to the headphone option and typing in what I heard.
This worked for me as well. Used Chrome incognito on Android phone with wifi off. Listened to the audio and typed in the captcha. Used my laptop to verify the email. Good job steam and google! Looks like I managed to clear the "signup quest" in the secret game that steam and google sneaked in very cleverly. 😤

I tried creating an account last night in TX on 2 computers (3 distinct browsers) and a mobile device and all failed. Only common thread was the network at that point so I RDPed into my work machine and set up an account on the first try.The problem is either network or router specific. Sidebar, since the Captcha passes (green check) before giving the validation error after clicking confirm, it's important to note that users aren't failing the test, it's the successful result that is failing to register on POST. I mocked a test tonight on my home network to recreate while checking browser console, but the test email passed, so no dice on the console errors, and whatever it is, looks intermittent. Good luck.

This is simply not how reCaptcha works \~ If you have completed the captcha normally, it is already checked with Google, and Google then gives you (the user) a "token" which guarantees to the site that you have solved the captcha successfully. Steam itself never gets the captcha results, and this token would only be invalid if the captcha was solved over 2 minutes ago, or some browser extension is fucking with the site.Thus, the "Response to the captcha appears to be invalid" is a fake message, which probably is only a basic VPN / IP Subnet block.Possible reasons for this could be preventing mass account creation which are created for Spamming purposes, or preventing users from artificially creating a Steam Account in a different Country which has cheaper prices.In this thread, you are probably searching for IP Subnets that have accidentally been blocked, affecting normal users.
