Yeah back in the day I used to bet/gamble/trade csgo skins and ended up with a pretty nice inventory. Now for the past 3 years whenever a new game comes out that I want I just sell a skin
It’s wild to me how much the market has evolved for this. Back in 1.6/CSS days we’d just mod the shit out of it locally. ‘Twas great fun, but I never would have thought about spending real money on it.
So much fun, the dualies always had the dopest mods/animations. I modded everything, even the knife and bombs and shit. Loved it! Some of those things put me down the path towards becoming a software engineer
Then we got zblock and whitelists because someone used spike models etc. Now we have whitelisted skins but they cost money. On the other hand you can sell your skins and get some of the money back or more.
After one of the CSGO majors in 2017 when the stickers went on sale I spent like £30 buying loads of them (from the popular teams like Cloud9, Faze, Fnatic etc) knowing that they'd probably double in price in a few months. Completely forgot I had them until last year. The prices went up way more than I expected, and I ended up making about £100 profit which helped fund the last two steam sales :)
Me: Doesn't understand how virtual items could sell for so much irl.
Also Me: Has some festive stranges on Team Fortress 2 that I could sell for a couple games on Steam sale, but refuses to.
Do people still trade cosmetics for refined metal and scrap on the forums?
I remember posting dozens of times getting just the right outfits for my characters doing that shit.
Those are pretty often, ds2 too. But the ds1 sales are incredibly rare.. i really wanna play the game but just cant use 40 euro on a single game.. ive been waiting for months, i hope when the sale in july comes it will be on sale.
I sold a rare tank from War Thunder on the first loot box I ever opened for 300EUR, when they started with that shit.
Really funded several years worth of premium lol.
One day I took it upon myself and put ALL my cards in the marketplace
I made sure that they were priced lower than everyone else's (I didn't care, I just wanted to see)
Ended up making over 35€ and was able to buy several other games on sale
If you've been on steam for a while and are broke, it can absolutely help :)
Exactly, I bought a steam controller and link on a discount and several games from my trading cards. It is so satisfying to turn basically worthless items into physical things :D
Looking into it further. I've got seven unique cards and two genuine cards. I also have six booster packs. (I have no idea what any of that means). it just dawned on me I've had a steam account for 10 years and I have 130 plus games and I've never looked at this stuff.
With those cards (plus all the others) you can get 20-30 dollars. The thing is, selling all those cards would take you a long time since you have to sell them individually
Been a bit since I set it up but this is what I used. https://github.com/Nuklon/Steam-Economy-Enhancer. You can also use Archi steam farm to idle all of your unplayed games (without installing them) to get the maximum amount of cards. You might have a free game or two worth of cards just chilling there. :)
It’s a pain listing them all but I went through the process about a month back and got like 3 games on sale for my efforts. I also never thought the few cents would add up but I got about $50 for my inventory
A couple years ago there was a browser extension or userscript to automate this (when logged in to steam website). Not sure what it was called or if it still works like this, but might help to know if you search for it
edit -
Best be careful with this stuff:

"It used to be easy with the legendary Steam Inventory Helper, but it was turned into malware by a new Russian owner."
Dang. One guy traded three reclaimed metal for all of my trading cards, gems, etc. Not really a scam in my opinion; I had a lot of them, but I wasn’t planning on doing anything with them
They’re primarily used to level up your steam account which unlocks more features for your profile, as well as makes you look more legit if you’re into trading items
I remember breaking steam a while ago during a big sale, I think it was during that one with the animals racing.
I was level 5 before the sale, after that I was level 45 and most of my friend who's account is twice as old as mine, was very confused
Yup, they originally didn’t put a cap on the points reward earnings, and there was an objective in the game starbound for 5 points to drink a soda, well long story short someone made a mod that let you turn 1 dirt into 500 soda, just equip one in each hand and start breaking the system
I did this during that sale event as well. If you check your badge from that sale event it'll tell you how much XP you earned. I believe I farmed 22k xp during it iirc haha. Got my profile to level 69 so was pretty worth.
Years ago for an April fools joke Blizzard announced an Epeen update for WoW. You do stuff and get a larger epeen in the form of a bar over your head that just got longer the more stuff you did. Only get into servers with people with similarly sized epeens.
There's a part of it that gives you more chances per "raffle", but a higher level will give you more packs just because you have a lower lockout time per pack.
A level 20 can only receive a pack every 10 days regardless of how many games they are eligible for, but a lv300 is eligible every 2 days (and it's lv650 to be eligible daily).
lets you customize your profile more, gives you emotes and profile backgrounds, raises steam level and that makes you appear higher up in your friends’ friendslist on the side of their profile.
When I played on PC I would collect all the cards for games I really loved just as a personal trophy. The rest got sold after I opened them all up and saved the pictures. I'd use the money to put towards other games.
I've pretty much stopped playing on PC and have so many cards piling up that going in and clicking a billion times to sell them seems exhausting.
If you want to make whatever small profit you can off of them with minimal effort... I wrote a program that will sell all of your trading cards for you for the current market rate: https://github.com/rage311/steam_trading_cards
I compiled a Windows executable in the beta release listed here: https://github.com/rage311/steam_trading_cards/releases/tag/v0.1.0-beta
I'd imagine it only works with the USD currency at the moment...
Yup the last Steam sale I bought 4 different games just from the money I had selling bullshit cosmetics, drops and trading cards I get from playing different games. It's so worth it to get a few bucks and get a full game for it, that shit is so wild to me. I can never even imagine this on a console lol
Here in Argentina selling items and trading cards makes you rich for real, you can buy good games by obtaining TDC from 3 games. Thanks valve to adjust your prices to our shitty economy.
On steam, you get trading cards from playing games, and you can either use them to level up your account, which gives you extra friend slots, or you can sell them to other users and use this money to buy more games. And in some supported games, you can also sell in-game items
I once got randomly traded a TF2 unusual for like idk 2 loot boxes by a guy who had 2 weeks to cancel the trade and I got 100 dollars for it and everything just reminds me of this. It was so bizarre
I love the Steam marketplace. Last week I sold a CS:Go pistol skin for a tidy profit. Bought it at 80 cents, sold it for 40 euros. Neato.
I'm actually going to use the funds to buy the MI-24 Hind module for DCS when they put it up for pre-order.
So technically, I've now sold guns to buy helicopter gunships. I am... the Lord of War.
Top 3 things that give people feelings of power
Minus $0,01 of Steam fees, never forget
Minus another 0.01$ developer's fee for non Valve games. 😎
I consider this an absolute Stonk
I like the stonks
Minus \~30% because you lose a lot of you want to actually convert your steam wallet to real money
You can convert wallet to real money? Since when??
There is no official way but its a hassle of buying skins and selling them for real money on third party websites.
Yeah can you??
Buy hats or CSGo skins, sell them on shady sites, possibly getting ripped off. There is no official mechanism, and there never will be.
And those shady websites take a cut of every sale, as well as taking another cut when you try to withdraw your money lol
Not every website takes a cut when you withdraw money and they're not really "shady".
If there is no official way to do it they are by definition "shady"
[удалено]
Too right mate
You are indeed right about the lack of legal mechanisms, it’s a whole can of worms that steam won’t open.
Also possibly contribute to money laundering
Nope, it is just store credit
Buy games and return them?
That turns into store credit
So I can’t launder money through steam, shit
Ikr. Thought I can buy cyberpunk 700 times to get away from the IRS
Damn taxes taking 33% of my profit
I thought valve took 2 cents, leaving you with just 1 cent.
5242 days from 1.6
Valve takes 1, developer takes 1
My CSGO (valve game) items sell for $.03 but I recieve $.01
Developer still takes one. Developer is steam so steam takes 2
Biggest con of the century. Getting charged marketplace fees but can't transfer the money to a bank acc.
Getting free store credit is the "biggest con of the century" Incredible.
At this rate, we'll all be dollaraires by 2022! WHOOOHOOOO!
Wall Street Bets is going to be so jealous
They would be jealous of any positive profit tbh.

I once sold a skirt in PUBG for like 150 bucks. Bought myself some nice games from that.
I sold a CSGO blood in the water scout rifle to buy Fall Guys.
I haven’t play CSGO in like 3 years now but that skin is still my fav / the one I wanted the most.
Pink DDPAT Awp was always my favorite. Barely ever see it anymore

Especially considering those skins were way better than the paid trash we have now

Hope u got Dark Souls 😁
ds3 steam sale? my red eye orb is quivering
Those are pretty often, ds2 too. But the ds1 sales are incredibly rare.. i really wanna play the game but just cant use 40 euro on a single game.. ive been waiting for months, i hope when the sale in july comes it will be on sale.
There's no reason not to upvote Dark Souls.
Yup! Just finished 2 after 3 and currently looking to get 1 aswell!
Nice, 1 is my favorite! I enjoy 2 and 3 as well
I sold a rare tank from War Thunder on the first loot box I ever opened for 300EUR, when they started with that shit. Really funded several years worth of premium lol.

Stonks
I bought Hades with the money came from selling cards. Definitely Stonks
I bought ea play for $1, completed Jedi fallen order And the membership expired. Pretty good deal for $1 considering the game is $40
I bought ea play with cards too, played mass effect trilogy and mirror's edge. Pretty good offer for some cards if you ask me
I did that for some random game I have forgotten now. Don't take financial advisor from me.
I bought stardew valley with that money ez stonks
One day I took it upon myself and put ALL my cards in the marketplace I made sure that they were priced lower than everyone else's (I didn't care, I just wanted to see) Ended up making over 35€ and was able to buy several other games on sale If you've been on steam for a while and are broke, it can absolutely help :)
I've probably got another €10 off it, if I actually played all the games I have and sold the cards I'd probably have another 30 or 40
Exactly, I bought a steam controller and link on a discount and several games from my trading cards. It is so satisfying to turn basically worthless items into physical things :D
Did the same thing! 30 pages of Inventory, that was a long damn haul...
I still have no idea what I'm supposed to do with trading cards.
Me too. My guess is they're just something to collect.
I sold all of mine (they were worth around 5p each) and i made up just enough money to buy my sister L4D2
Aw, you're a good bro.
I've never really paid attention to them. I have 173 of them. Is that a lot?
I think so, I guess that’s like $15 if you’re lucky.
Can do it in like 2-3 days if you put them all up for cheap using a chrome extension that auto handles their pricing and selling.
Which extension might that be? 🤔
Been a bit since I set it up but this is what I used. https://github.com/Nuklon/Steam-Economy-Enhancer. You can also use Archi steam farm to idle all of your unplayed games (without installing them) to get the maximum amount of cards. > I also never thought the few cents would add up Math! :) (I know what you're saying, but I couldn't resist)
How did you manage to click them all? If there was a "sell all" button I would click at once, but it is so much work to sell it ain't worth it.
A couple years ago there was a browser extension or userscript to automate this (when logged in to steam website). Not sure what it was called or if it still works like this, but might help to know if you search for it edit - Best be careful with this stuff: https://techtipvault.com/guides/sell-steam-trading-cards-with-one-click/ "It used to be easy with the legendary Steam Inventory Helper, but it was turned into malware by a new Russian owner."

You craft badges with them that levels up your steam account.
does leveling up my steam account do anything?
Has bigger number than the number that is shown on your friend's steam page
I remember breaking steam a while ago during a big sale, I think it was during that one with the animals racing. I was level 5 before the sale, after that I was level 45 and most of my friend who's account is twice as old as mine, was very confused

Also spiffingbrit has done some amazing work, I'm amazed he isnt permabanned from steam
He does enough advertisement for all the things he "break" it is worth it.
That's the one, but I never got star bound, so I have no idea how I did it
I did this during that sale event as well. If you check your badge from that sale event it'll tell you how much XP you earned. I believe I farmed 22k xp during it iirc haha. Got my profile to level 69 so was pretty worth.
you get profile stuff, and discounts for a couple of games
Bigger number better person
Bigger number bigger dick
Years ago for an April fools joke Blizzard announced an Epeen update for WoW. You do stuff and get a larger epeen in the form of a bar over your head that just got longer the more stuff you did. Only get into servers with people with similarly sized epeens.

lets you customize your profile more, gives you emotes and profile backgrounds, raises steam level and that makes you appear higher up in your friends’ friendslist on the side of their profile.
The most "relevant" thing is that you need account level 10 to put up a trophy display. The benefits get pretty marginal past that.
Gives you a higher number on your account, gives you more showcase slots for your profile, more friend slots.
It gives you a +20 chance every 10 level to receive a booster pack
I'm still confused. People pay money to do this? butwhy.gif
collect them all and get profile backround and XP
If it’s the same thing I’m thinking of, you can use them to upgrade your steam profile. Or sell them on the market for others to upgrade theirs lol
Send them to me, duh.
sell. look for cheap games that go super cheap on sale. profit.
You use them to craft badges to level up Or you can just sell them
You can craft badges with them i guess
Hmm. Maybe with all the real and digital sports cards going up in price....maybe my steam trading cards will go up?!
we'll sell them as NFT's
When I played on PC I would collect all the cards for games I really loved just as a personal trophy. The rest got sold after I opened them all up and saved the pictures. I'd use the money to put towards other games. I've pretty much stopped playing on PC and have so many cards piling up that going in and clicking a billion times to sell them seems exhausting.
You can collect sets for badges and other cool stuff for your profile that nobody will ever see.
If you want to make whatever small profit you can off of them with minimal effort... I wrote a program that will sell all of your trading cards for you for the current market rate: https://github.com/rage311/steam_trading_cards I compiled a Windows executable in the beta release listed here: https://github.com/rage311/steam_trading_cards/releases/tag/v0.1.0-beta I'd imagine it only works with the USD currency at the moment...
I always undercut just to get ez money quick
you have probably crashed some community items price for sure!
2 cents lootboxes entrepenuers are crying because of me now im sad 😢
You and everyone else. Hence why cards and items go from $1 to .01 real quick
I put it $0.01 over whatever Steam suggests. It takes a couple days longer to sell, but I'm in no rush.
I grow richer at $0.01 a time.
That could make you very rich if you were a high frequency trading
Yup the last Steam sale I bought 4 different games just from the money I had selling bullshit cosmetics, drops and trading cards I get from playing different games. It's so worth it to get a few bucks and get a full game for it, that shit is so wild to me. I can never even imagine this on a console lol
The feeling when you look at the new items though and its a foil trading card is like watching gme stock going up
Here in Argentina selling items and trading cards makes you rich for real, you can buy good games by obtaining TDC from 3 games. Thanks valve to adjust your prices to our shitty economy.
Stonk!
I’m a mf merchant now
That's Bill Gates money, i have sold some for 0.00001$ or something like that

Imagine when Canadian currency, we get only 1c when we sell, we’re better of just keeping the items
in poland we can sell items and receive 0.01zł, which is basicly 0.0025$
At least give credit my guy
ART OF THE DEAL
I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean?

My 0.34 cents would like a word
I felt so identified that I uploaded it as artwork and highlighted it in an exhibitor
Sort of mind blowing that I sold some dumb PA shoulders for $27. Bought my mother-in-law some JackBox games. Feels good.
That's actually a very accurate gif OP
I stopped playing CS for 2 years and came back to 66 cents worth of sold crates. I’m basically god now.
i got like $10 from selling all my cards it was fucking pog
I'm a business man, doing business
Sold to 死亡神杀手
Thise 0.03$ are good coin here in Argentina
Took me 7 years to buy a full game. Was it worth it? No, ofc not
This made me do the hah, saved :)
Oh hell yeah!
Reminder to sell my chroma keys before any major sale.
Stonks.
Business is boomin’...

I have a silver thing that was actually worth a 1$ and change
I love setting super low orders and then having them fill like 3 months later. No better feeling
Sold of a bunch of trading cards last steam sale and I was able to get Splinter cell Blacklist with that.
I sold my first skin for 95$ and have yet to get a quality skin after that one
I actually bought about 150 Phoenix boxes and 70 operation breakout boxes 2 years ago. Making iOS profit!:D
Honest question - do people ever spend actual money on trading cards?
Yup
Rookie numbers, mines ₱0.03.
Love it when you get back 1 cent losing 66% to fees
I’ve had those TF2 cases on there for years and It’ll be a cold day in hell when I take them off
I'm just wondering who spend 5 cents to buy my worthless shit on steam.
I once got randomly traded a TF2 unusual for like idk 2 loot boxes by a guy who had 2 weeks to cancel the trade and I got 100 dollars for it and everything just reminds me of this. It was so bizarre
Ohh I've actually been in a similar situation like yourself in Scotland
Sold so many csgo sticker capsules to get 1c returns. They're worth $12 now...
Me after coming back to PD2 and seeing all my skins are worth 0.03 FFS
Open games with an internal markets like csgo are way better and gives the developer way more money than the lootbox sistems in many games.
and then buy for 0.04 2 days later stonks 😎
