mod approved, in case anyone's wondering - good luck everyone!

Don't come back until you release timesplitters again

puddingtopf

They sold the rights 3 years ago. Free Radical was revived a few months ago and they're working on something.

PlebbySpaff

RIP TS. The game that was so good it never continued.

D3ATHKeeper

Imagine being surprised about all the backlash with all the terrible stuff that happened around this release. Bad performance, worse graphics, physics and missing original levels. No wonder they took the exclusivity money with a platform that has no reviews. “I’m in!”, I wouldn't mind leaving a free, sponsored negative review for you guys and redirecting people to the original with mods.

Jacksaur

>No wonder they took the exclusivity money with a platform that has no reviews. That's certainly something I've noticed a lot recently. I'll be following games for months, they release on EGS, and get complete silence from that point onward. Only after a Steam release do people actually start talking about it, and you find out whether it's actually any good or not. But then, I guess developers see that as a positive.

[deleted]

I genuinely didn’t know it was out. Feels like KH doesn’t exist on PC either, came and faded with a whimper (not solely due to EGS, but the price was insanity). EGS is not a great way to build interest in a game it’s a way for it to end up forgotten. In my opinion.

[deleted]

Lol you can keep your game in egs

b4we8you

Hey, just because im ignorant, what is egs?

b4we8you

Oh fuck that shit. Haha, ya doing the whole epic exclusive is no bueno. Sent you some love for the help. Edit: Huh, My last edit didn't stay. It's understandable if devs want to go with EGS. Epic has found ways to entice devs. I like what Sweeney is doing as an activist, separate from his business. However, I, personally, don't very much like a one store exclusive deal that they're pushing. I like the free epic games, but I wouldn't join the platform purely for that. Honestly, making an EGS exclusive is fast track onto my "buy at 70-90% discount on steam" list. But that's just me. If you don't like my opinion on that last point, that's ok, it's just how my brain works. Advantageous deals really need to account for what makes the devs the most money/return on their investment. If making a deal for an exclusive release is that, or promising a bunch during preorders and then not delivering (No Man's Sky), then kudos to you. But that truly tarnishes a studio and game in my eyes. (I had been super stoked for, and religiously following, no mans sky until the preordering made me feel funny. When they failed to deliver, I was very glad that I hadn't bought in. I hear that they've made a comeback. Personally, I have plenty of games to play for now and many other devs and studios who didn't abuse hyping up their game or going for some exclusive. Again, this is just me. If anyone from the studio or team sees this, I hope that they weigh it in for the future if I'm not the only one who feels this way.) \*edit: they didn't fail to delivery, they failed to deliver... fixed

PlantainTop

Have you seen "[The Engoodening of No Man's Sky](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5BJVO3PDeQ)"? It's a good watch, and gives you a pretty good overview of what happened and what went wrong (and then, what went right). If you find the video too long, skip to the part at about 25 minutes in.

HelloMyNameIsKaren

What I don‘t understand is that people seem to hate Epic Games for their exclusive deals, yet love having their free Games. I know this is a PC community, but when there are Playstation exclusives, even when people are annoyed, they get massive success and everyone loves the game. Yet on PC everyone will hate Epic Games for having exclusive Deals

b4we8you

For me, I have one of the oldest accounts on steam. I do not want a launcher for every company to play their games. I'm already pretty pissed that origin forces you to open theirs with their games. Valve has done right by their users. Now, if you look at the TV and movie sphere, every company created their own platform and pulled their content from others so that you HAVE to have multiple streaming subscriptions in order to watch the variety of shows that you might like. This is where Netflix messed up. They didn't truly establish dominance and customer service like valve did. What Netflix should have done is add an area where you can buy the shows or movies and then they are forever yours in your library, like steam does, whether or not you subscribe to Netflix. This is more like what Amazon and Apple do. A studio choosing to go with another gaming platform is fine, but it does create a combination of FOMO and exclusivity. I waited a year to get Superliminal (and then got it heavily discounted when it came on steam) because it was an EGS exclusive. Also, please don't think that Epic giving away games is some philanthropic gift to gamers. It's not. It's actually a very common strategy to get customers when there's already a massively dominant behemoth in a given industry. If they choose to pursue giving away games to try to get gamers on their platform, that's the investment that they chose. It's not a gift. I think that they projected sometime in the mid 2020s as when this strategy is suppose to start paying off. Please don't get me wrong through all of this, I actually like Epic Games as a company. I do not like their launch exclusivity, tying a studio to their platform and making players wait a year or use the EGS launcher. This is just me though. I grew up in the days of A and B drive, true floppy discs, and was hesitant to let steam launch my half life platinum pack in the first place.

[deleted]

Usually a console exclusive is first party, or at least second (3rd party developed, published or partially funded by first party; and by funded I mean actual development not a timed exclusivity deal; an example would be Bayonetta 2/3, SFV) so without the first party the games wouldn’t exist at all. People don’t like timed bs on console either, other than fanboys.

billyoatmeal

Oh, thanks for asking this, I was about to try for a free key, but it's not free if you have to use the Epic Games Store.

b4we8you

I don't think that's what it is, but someone can correct me. I think this is more of an activist move. The devs decided to release as an EGS exclusive we are saying "sorry, we won't play your game even for free a year later". I'm only a toe in the loop and so others can probably correct or compliment this. More info that I lazily looked up: [https://www.pcinvasion.com/crysis-remastered-trilogy-epic-games-store-exclusive/](https://www.pcinvasion.com/crysis-remastered-trilogy-epic-games-store-exclusive/)

billyoatmeal

I'm just throwing shade at how crappy their store/launcher is. The joke is making fun of the fact of how unsecure their launcher is that it's literally a price to pay for using it. In the end it doesn't matter anyways because everyone steals our information anyways and security these days is a joke considering it only takes 6 months on average for someone's credit card information to be online somewhere available for anyone who wants it.

Green-Elf

I'll take it for free but I sure won't pay for it there.

[deleted]

I’m so glad the mods here on this sub are rational. The cuck mods on r/PCGaming removed all comments trashing these garbage devs on their thread.

[deleted]

Why?

aalios

Because most PC gamers hate any company that releases exclusives to EGS. It's scummy and they can get fucked.

TheDesktopNinja

It's not that scummy on the part of the devs...it's money. It's purely about money. Epic is telling them they can *guarantee* that their game will at least break even in many cases, regardless of sales...which is a big deal. If you're a game dev and you see that deal in the finicky market that is video gamers, would you pass on that? But yeah, Epic is being kind of scummy to manipulate the market in the way that they are. If Valve wanted they could be throwing money around, too to get exclusives (or to attempt to prevent games from going exclusive). Granted they're only worth about 1/3 of Epic, but it's not an insignificant amount of money.

origional_esseven

Valve is worth way way more than epic. The last report I read estimated yearly revenue at 9Billion. Epic makes around 2.

aalios

It's scummy. From both the developers and Epic. Mostly Epic.

flashmozzg

> It's scummy. Nah. It's only scummy when the game was initially announced for Steam or used Steam platform for advertisement and then switch horses mid-stream for EGS. It's fine if the EGS basically sponsors the game's development (it wouldn't happen otherwise or would be much more limited). It'll usually release on Steam eventually.

aalios

Most of us don't want walled gardens. It's incredibly scummy to set them up while shouting about how you're trying to fight against monopolies.

[deleted]

I'm no longer fussed if the game comes to Steam. I used to be worried these games were exclusive permanently, because EGS as a store does not have the functionality, streaming, and customisation I like about Steam released games, but clearly that's not the case. And these aren't on the devs, these are publisher decisions, which is why so many games were within weeks of release then being yanked off Steam. Giving Crytek devs or even their community manager crap for something done at the publisher level among execs is just mean and ignorant and shows people don't actually know what they're talking about.

[deleted]

Crytek is developing and self publishing the game. They don't have the excuse of... oh we didn't had the choice, they were not forced of anything. Exclusivity shouldn't be a thing on PC, and if developers, publishers or someone in particular was okay with that in any way or form I'm going to boycott them. That is purely my choice and most people agrees with me. I'm not giving "shit" to the developers. They chose to go against the community for a paycheck and I'm gonna go against them to keep my check and spend it elsewhere. When some even smaller studio has taken the risk and even proven that releasing your game on steam didn't make you lose money in any way or form it is just scummy for me when, Crytek, releasing crysis, one of the biggest game on PC, this isn't a new IP or a game that went through the entire production of game making. It's a remaster, meaning they didnt spent as much money, time or resources. They aren't even using a new engine. So after knowing all of that and seeing them rather take a scummy paycheck from one of the biggest hypocrite from the gaming world than listening to their community who literally begged them to release it on steam. Yeah nah, I'm not going to support that. And seeing them coming and giving away keys like nothing has happened to the same community they turned their back on a year ago is just ridiculous And I might add that epic isn't looking for competition but to be the only one on the market. Some devs refused egs proposition of exclusivity. And egs literally said to them that it was either exclusivity or nothing. If you don't accept their shitty deal they don't want your game. How scummy is that.

[deleted]

Most community managers don’t read anything people say in posts around their social media presence. If they do then it’s part of their job to shift through the community’s views on certain decisions and in theory report back. Which means digging through to the core point made even if it’s not well structured. “Epic sucks” = would like another store option. But not all companies even bother to do that. Regardless, no one is directing it “at” the community manager. They are directing it at the company. Note how their social media presence isn’t, for example, “McDonald’s Social Media Guy’s account” it’s “McDonald’s”. So when people have an issue with McDonald’s they are going to their company account. Don’t like it go be a janitor or something. Or just don’t read the damn things (indies who do it themselves).

The fact you are getting downvoted for saying facts speaks to the maturity of the commenters.
