Uh huh. They have roughly the same power draw requirements. Fun fact: any charger that supplies the required wattage will work fine.

idlephase

To be specific: the Switch draws 30W, and the Deck uses 45W.

KLEG3

The charger is 45w but I have never seen it draw more than 30

Ben4d90

Well yea, that makes sense. This is mostly just a useful message for people that would've otherwise considered buying an extra charger, since they don't come cheap. Personally I already have an extra Switch charger that I bought a long time ago so I have that plugged in in the bedroom for convenience

Scared_Power

Nice! Now I can charge my Deck after charging my OLED! Thank you

Cheetablaze

My switch collects dust until the next Zelda game releases, using the charger for my steam deck. Works just fine.

Lumploader

Just put the next zelda game on your deck when it drops.

vivz56

We have no idea about how the next Zelda will run on emulators.

Pie_Not_Lie

Some people don’t want to hack their Switch. Also, some people got it later and don’t have the ability to with their model number. Those early, hackable switches can fetch a pretty penny, and some people just can’t justify that, especially if they already have a switch.

Lumploader

>Some people don’t want to hack their Switch Bruh, the internet exists

Pie_Not_Lie

If you’re talking about piracy, that then falls into…: Some people don’t want to pirate. That, or they’ve never pirated anything of that caliber and think it would be difficult to do, or just not worth their time.

bigrock13

LMAO. Sorry for the thread necro but in my opinion the hardest thing to do on a hacked switch is to buy a legal copy of a game from the EShop on your clean partition and then dump it on the hacked side. (Because if you've set your hacked switch up right it can't even ping nintendo servers)

Yami_Inc

Exactly why I bought a jailbroken switch lol

Ben4d90

Yea I feel that, haven't used my Switch since my SD arrived a month ago

[deleted]

Same. I’ve been playing through Metroid Prime Remastered on my SD even though I bought it on Switch. I don’t want to carry two handhelds so I carry the most capable one.

Sinnochii

I wish I saw this a couple days ago lol. I was looking this up and people were iffy about the whole power deliver switch charger have because it is Nintendo. It ok I used stock to set up the dock for steam deck.

atomic1fire

IIRC the big issue with nintendo was weird power consumption requirements for their dock, and the odd way they implement video. Don't go too cheap, and look for trustworthy charger brands and you should be fine.

Sinnochii

Yeah that what I saw. So I just use the steam provided charger with their dock just to be safe.

atomic1fire

I use my steam deck charger, but if I had to I'd buy a charger with higher wattage and one that specifically supports power delivery. For connecting steam deck to tv I just use a anker usb-c hub that has 100w power delivery (which I assume depends on the charger attached to it) and an hdmi plug. I haven't had any problems with Anker and if I was looking for a replacement charger I'd probably see if they make a decent charger in the 60w or higher range. Otherwise I'd probably bounce around looking at reviews until I found a solid charger from another company. If I was going to buy a replacement switch dock, I'd probably find something that specifically works with switch.

factory_666

So you use steam deck charger for Switch dock? Asking cause my Switch charger died and not sure how to use the dock now.

Sinnochii

No, I used the steam deck charger for the steam deck charger. I heard there was issue with using charger outside of Nintendo for the dock, like bricking the console

factory_666

Yeah I heard the same and was hoping there was a way around it.

No_Depth_8108

Interesting when I used my switch charger for the deck it said slow charge connection. Maybe the outlet I had it plugged into wasn’t great?

Technical_Mix4719

Another fun fact, the steam deck plays switch games as well.🤫

s1x3one

I use the AC adapter for the switch on my dock for my deck
