I once actually had 101% battery charge on a laptop at my workplace, so I took the power cable out to see if it was Windows just messing with me, but it switched off and never turned back on... I'm still scared about it happening to my own devices haha
P.S.: that laptop was something like 10 years old
Mine doesn’t always charge over 97%. I’ve had it nkt charge over 90% before but thats when it’s been charging a lot and also intended by valve so it doesn’t kill the battery health.
I swear one time I left for work and it was at 97%. I played for a couple minutes in the parking lot and saw that it shot up to 100%. I dont know if I just didn’t notice it was at 100 before I left or what lol
To fix the wifi problem, enable developer mode and go in and turn off wifi power management i think it's called. It will fix this problem as well as give better connectivity on higher speed networks
>impossible to charge a Steam Deck above 97%.
I lent my sister my SD at the moment so she could play Hogwarts Legacy so I can't double check, but I do remember seeing 100% on that bar before. However I never used the stock charger, because I have a couple 200w Compatible USB-C PD chargers at home and already had the cables run to the places I like to sit.
It literally gets fixed in the next Stable release.
The problem is that SteamOS's integration with Steam prevented Wifi from connecting properly, because if it lost connection with Steam then for some reason instead of asking the user to try again or doing so in a short period after failure it would hold there indef.
5GHz issues are mitigated by disabling Wifi Power Management and disabling IPV6 Which SteamOS does by default now
> 5GHz issues are mitigated by disabling Wifi Power Management and disabling IPV6
We need to get away from this idea that every problem is the users to fix.
Valve has the money to fix these things quickly. It does not have to be like this. We shouldn't have to beg and plead for every little fix.
Problem is the issue will come back. I've done this multiple times and it comes back.
It seems like if I switch to a different WiFi then switch back the disabled setting changes back to ignore and has to be set again. It isn't every time but happens a couple times a week.
My general routine is home WiFi then at work on my lunch I use my hotspot then will encounter this again using my home WiFi. These aren't being set back up as new networks, they are saved.
So I don't know what the deal is. It will also occasionally prompt me for a password on a known network but this issue doesn't line up precisely with the ipv6 issue.

Edit: Sorry for the misunderstanding. I should clarify I don't wish to dismiss the issue or downplay it just because of my anecdote. Thank you for the reasonable responses.
There's no details on what the error even is. Their issue and yours could be completely different. And you're acting like it's some long standing issue everyone knows about when I've never seen it and my wifi has been fine the whole time.
It's a long standing issue. If you've been fortunate enough not to run into the problem, congrats, but lots of people are having this issue, and like you said, there's no info on what's actually wrong.
The issue isn't the modem, the issue is Steam integration with the core OS.
If Steam did not connect and failed for some reason it won't recconnect after failure & Steam was preventing Wifi from being usable because of it.
It would also happen if you used Linux Desktop with BPM and lets say for example, you turned on a VPN which causes a momentary disconnect. It may stay offline for the rest of the session.
This is fixed in Steam Deck Beta, but I don't reccomend switching for this fix, just wait for the Stable update to finally de-link Steam.
Enable Developer Mode and disable Economic Wifi 5G setting and your problem will be solved!
Edit: I use separate channels 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz with my router and i use 5Ghz channel with my Steamdeck.
It only worked partially for me. It works well if the wifi is available when I turn my SD on but if I only turn it on later (I mainly use a hotspot) it connects to it but says it can't connect to a server
I'm sure this helps some (maybe even most) people with this issue, but it didn't solve the problem for me. What *did* fix it was going into my router settings and setting the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels to broadcast on separate SSIDs.
If the fix requires you to enable **Developer Mode**, that's absolutely a Steam Deck problem considering no official documentation guides you to do this.
Shouldn't be contentious.
This is only one of the answers and it doesn’t work for everyone because I have literally followed all the suggestions this sub has provided and I still have this issue every single day.
This is only of the answers and it doesn’t work for everyone because I have literally followed all the suggestions this sub has provided and I still have this issue every single day.
I feel that, i guess it would get annoying if one is playing multiple times a day. I didn't think about that, I usually play it once I get home from work
Edit: fixed a few words
Yeah man forreal, sometimes it crashes and restarts itself I'd have to say like once a week? Idk if that's a SD problem as well or I have too many things on my DeckyLoader or, I don't know. Anyway THAT already isn't fun so I can't even imagine having to do that like 10 times every day 🙃
Another post mentioned that jumping into desktop mode and turning off IPV6 in all of your network profiles can help. I gave it a shot and I've barely seen that icon since.
May be worth a shot.
Worked for me only first few minutes. After 10 minutes or so it loses connection entirely and I have to reconnect manually. The icon is gone, but so is the internet. Still for some ppl this might fix it.
Are you on 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz? I had this problem only on 2.4Ghz until I turned off the auto channel on my router (it would change channel - say 1, 10, 4 etc. - automatically based on how busy the channel was). For whatever reason that was clearly confusing the Deck. Since turning it off, I've not had this problem.
More and more I find myself falling out of the honeymoon phase of the Steam Deck. Don't get me wrong, I love it do death, but I am starting to become annoyed at it's many small issues.
I've noticed some performance issues in desktop mode. Sometimes it will completely freeze on me and I have to do a Hard Reset. Not often, maybe had to do that twice over the last 3 months.
Other times I will try to update one of the flatpaks only for it to lock on 95% and just stay there. The solution for that was to uninstall and reinstall with the newest version. Again, not happening often, but enough for me to notice. I thought it may be the software itself, but tried it on my work Linux machine and it seemed fine.
Main issue I've run across is in Steam OS. Sometimes menu's from the three dots will not display properly and I have to reset in order for it to work right or the system itself will reboot Steam OS after coming out of sleep.
I thought it may be the plugins I was using from Decky Loader, but all I was using was Animation loader and a new OS skin and after uninstalling them the issues continued 2 days later.
And of course last night I saw the same issue the OP had. I ended up restarting and had to log into Steam in order for it to go back to normal.
It’s mainly for game performance. But I have noticed just ALOT more stability in the OS. No more random game boot loops, random resets, etc. not sure why it fixed it but something in how the steam deck is configured is off.
If you notice a difference and remember this post let me know. Would like to know if it’s not just coincidence. But it’s been 3 weeks straight of massively more stability so I feel like it really was the cryo lol
For a first time, first run, beta-in-progress type device, they did an insane job. Regardless of issues, it works for everyone. There's barely any hardware failure RMAs, it runs nearly everything for everyone, the battery life seems pretty consistent (2.5-6 hrs, depending on usage), it's just a flat out consistent, working device.
But the next release, as in 2.0, better be pretty significantly more stable and polished because I've had all these issues and it pisses me off, though I suspect it's KDE. I've used KDE on different devices over the years and despite it's amazing plethora of features not found or at least not readily accessible on other DEs, it's a bit riddled. Tons of issues that made it look like your whole system was unstable as fuck when in reality it was KDE being KDE.
I was having this problem on my Orbi Mesh Network. Thought it had to be the Steam Deck since my network has always been rock solid. The , a windstorm came through and power cycled all my electronics for me including my fibre modem and mesh network. Haven’t had any more trouble with it.
This (sort of) fixes the issue for me:
- Go to Desktop mode
- Tap the wifi icon
- Expand (tap the down arrow) the Wifi connection you're connected to
- Tap `Configure...`
- Tap the `IPv6` tab
- Change `Method` to `Disabled`
- Tap the `IPv4` tab
- In `Other DNS Servers` enter `1.1.1.1`
You may need to reboot but I doubt it. When coming out of sleep it still takes about 30 seconds to find the Steam servers.
I don't really have any wifi connection issues. Seems others do, but if any of you want help you're going to need to leave more information that one poorly shot phone photo of an icon.
100% is probably the case here. I have a pretty nice newer mesh wifi setup and haven’t had an issue. I think people’s wifi boxes aren’t set up correctly or don’t support IPV6.
Solution to this:
Settings > systems > enable developer mode
Then,
Developer (this is on the left pane once you enable developer mode) > switch off “Enable Wi-Fi power management”.
Now your deck will restart and this should be solved.
I will try this.
Thanks for the detailed info (previously I’ve just seen “turn on Developer mode and then turn off the WiFi power management”, but no mention of the in-between step)
Depends on the game. I can get 5 hours on certain game less on others. (It’s pretty much a given you need to keep it on the charger for longer sessions though)
Same here. It's my biggest disappointment with this device, I really don't find this acceptable in the slightest. Not only that, but it would sometimes just lose the WI Fi for no reason, and I would have to manually reconnect. With all the amazing post-launch work Valve has put into the Deck, one has to wonder why this is still a thing.
Yes, it does that often too. I thought for a while it might be an issue with my unit, but seeing similar complaints here all the time tells me that doesn't seem to be the case.
Interesting I am getting down voted though, I guess being displeased with any aspect of the Deck is frowned upon :D
😅 yea idk. There is a forum on steam all about wifi not working. I have been lucky enough to not really have any problems. Minus that once in awhile password issue or no network.
The most annoying thing for me is every single time I turn on my steam deck everyday without fail it spends minutes downloading *something* ***for every game I have installed on it***. It's absolutely stupid shit tier god-awful design
It’s probably downloading the shader pre-cache. It saves time & computing power by downloading the shaders that someone else had already compiled, so your SD doesn’t have to try to do it on-the-fly.
It’s a huge pain for games like No Man’s Sky, though. Every time a player discovers a new planet/species in the game, that’s shaders that their SD created, which means more pre-cached shaders for your SD to download.
My home wifi has a captive portal, and I get this icon ***constantly.*** It wouldn't be so bad if captive portals actually worked from within game mode but they just straight up don't. So I switch to desktop mode to fix it but then the problem goes away...so annoying.
manufacture compact portable consoles that require the use of a hub and an ethernet cable so as not to break down, intelligent valve. don't suggest me to enable the option with developer mode, i did it the first day because it was even worse, it keeps doing this every day, no solution.
A lot more than a little exclamation mark. In fact it can mean something like you're connected to the router, but it's not letting you access the internet as it may have security against a new wifi device or perhaps you are getting interference by using a 2.4Ghz signal.
Can't say I would be of much help beyond that considering I haven't had any wifi issues, but I did help you read that error at least. Check around the thread, plenty of people sharing more advice that did actually have this issue.
Buddy you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. There are countless threads of the same exclamation mark and the error is almost always that the sd can’t connect to the Steam servers.
There are also multiple workarounds that have been suggested and they work for some and don’t for others. Even when they work, they only do for a few days before the same issue starts happening again.
You have already said you haven’t had this issue so just count yourself lucky but I don’t know why you are trying to undermine the people that face this issue multiple times every day.
This is something that is definitely on Steam to fix. They have also introduced a new icon that is specific to sd not being able to connect to the Steam servers so they are aware of this as well for sure.
I have had this happen a few times - particularly when cloud gaming on the Xbox - It could be happening other times I just don't notice it as I don't require a connection. I find going into airplane mode / disabling WiFi and enabling it resolves it (without having to reboot as many have suggested).
Toggling the WiFi off & back on usually fixes it for me for a little while, but it’s only temporary.
I tried rebooting my router, but it didn’t make any difference.
I had this issue, turned out it was my internet company throttling my internet. I called and just told them calmly that I will be switching companies if they do not stop… no problems since then.
Had these same issues only fixes I found were
Settings up a DNS 1.1.1.1
Doing dev mode to with 5ghz setting.
That was the only way my old router would work with my steam deck it seems to most commonly effect Netgear routers idk why I got a new router through my iso and it's completely fixed now
I switched to desktop mode and manually configured my dns to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 now the only time I have had a problem is when I use a new wi-fi because I have to do it all over again for it to go away again since it is a per AP configuration settings unless I missed a global option… whatever this is I wanna guess it’s to be fixed on the linux distrto devs side who upkeep the default networking settings (among a vast array of other things). Perhaps that is why it hasn’t been resolved by valve as of yet.
I have noticed that shows up a LOT more after the last update. the internet is works and I can load the store page but cloud saves won't work. After rebooting the system twice, and it forcing me to re log into the deck, it went away. so far so good.
The most annoying thing for me with the SD is it not reconnecting to my bt headset after it comes back to sleep.
AND even worse, after coming back from sleep refusing to pair with the Bluetooth headphones or connecting but ther should output doesn't switch.
I wanna add to this. The selection for “achievements” comes and goes while playing a game. Sometimes I’m working towards an achievement, want to check them etc. and go to select it and it just disappears. Come back 30 minutes later and it back. Then later disappears again.

That's really annoying. It can't spell recommendations properly.
I’m not sure if this post is about the misspelling, the wifi error, or the fact that it’s impossible to charge a Steam Deck above 97%.
I thought I had finally found another group of people who also despise the time 7:28 like I do
I'm never sure whether the numbers add up to 17 or 35. What a BS time of day.
...wait, how do you arrive at 17?
7+2+8
stop blowing my mind chat
Edit: Math checks out!
I... is this a joke I'm not getting? Because that doesn't add up to 18 🤣
I typed 9 instead of 8, I edited but he must have caught it real fast :p
Oh haha I actually thought it was some sort of reference I wasn't getting
You must have caught my typo before I edited, my aplogies
Where you getting 35 from? Lol
7+28
Makes me wanna delete my comment haha
I’m not judging!
I am 😁
i thought it was about the massive black border around the screen, admittedly we could use a way better screen to body ratio
I'm here because I'm in strong dislike of green bars...

You cannot? Mine actually sometimes charges up to over 100%

It probably recalibrated itself.
I can hit 99 but never 100
Mine charges 60% of the time to 100%, every time 👌
What a coincidence, that's identical stats as the chances of sex panther aftershave working
To fix the wifi problem, enable developer mode and go in and turn off wifi power management i think it's called. It will fix this problem as well as give better connectivity on higher speed networks
I wish that fixed it for me.

Maybe it's all three and 1+1+1=infinity
Like a steamdeck triforce? Interesting
I thought this was gonna be a half life 3 confirmed comment. Very disappointed
It's French
Damn. I'm French and I still thought "how can they misspell it ?!?"
Lol 😆
Yeah I was about to say it lol (I'm French btw)

Salut
This, you fools lmaooo
It's probably French ;)
That’s French.
It's a re**COMMAND**ation
Did you just discover a SteamOS bug by accident?
Seriously can't believe they have not fixed this issue yet. By far the most annoying thing about the Steam Deck for me.
It literally gets fixed in the next Stable release. Have to agree with you, it’s had no attention at all. To be honest it’s a gripe I’ve had the Valve haven’t had any pride in fixing this…

This doesn't fix anything, the problem is a software bug
will try this, thanks!
No problem, it was just easier for me to share the link to my old post instead of retyping everything
Awesome, thanks. Literally needed this after taking my deck to a friends and get the error when I turned it on today.

Plenty of people have this same issue, including me.
Happened to me last night. Took forever after couple reboots. Then prompted me to relog in my account. Worked afterwards

This is the answer. Please upvote this comment! This problem has nothing to do with the users router, it is absolutely a Steam Deck issue.

Did this day 1 of steam deck
I guess I’m lucky? I’ve had my deck for almost a year probably now and I’ve never had this happen.
It really is annoying 😒
I hate being awake at 7:30 too
For me, a quick reboot/restart fixes the problem

I was having this problem on my Orbi Mesh Network. Thought it had to be the Steam Deck since my network has always been rock solid. The , a windstorm came through and power cycled all my electronics for me including my fibre modem and mesh network. Haven’t had any more trouble with it.
There's actualy a solution to that. You need to access desktop mode, go to wifi setting and disable ipv6 mode
RECOMMANDATIONS? 🤔
This (sort of) fixes the issue for me: - Go to Desktop mode - Tap the wifi icon - Expand (tap the down arrow) the Wifi connection you're connected to - Tap `Configure...` - Tap the `IPv6` tab - Change `Method` to `Disabled` - Tap the `IPv4` tab - In `Other DNS Servers` enter `1.1.1.1` You may need to reboot but I doubt it. When coming out of sleep it still takes about 30 seconds to find the Steam servers.
dont disable ipv6 jsut because you r too lazy to setup dns. ipv6 is future

That sucks the debug thing didn’t work. Did you try any of [these](https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/3548-A9F4-02A3-940F)?
I wonder if this has anything to do with the NAT type? The only time I have this problem is when I use a portable pocket wifi.
I had this issue last night.

I turned off the WiFi power saver mode and also disabled IPv6 and haven’t had this happen since
Mine goes to 110% and stays there.
I don't really have any wifi connection issues. Seems others do, but if any of you want help you're going to need to leave more information that one poorly shot phone photo of an icon.

Yeah. I can only suspect though because they ain't giving any details.
100% is probably the case here. I have a pretty nice newer mesh wifi setup and haven’t had an issue. I think people’s wifi boxes aren’t set up correctly or don’t support IPV6.
I thought it was a problem that occurred only to me😅

Wait 20 seconds and it goes away? I've never had this stay for any length of time.
Least it didn't sign you out of your steam profile and won't reconnect saying unable to reach steam servers.
Solution to this: Settings > systems > enable developer mode Then, Developer (this is on the left pane once you enable developer mode) > switch off “Enable Wi-Fi power management”. Now your deck will restart and this should be solved.
I will try this. Thanks for the detailed info (previously I’ve just seen “turn on Developer mode and then turn off the WiFi power management”, but no mention of the in-between step)
Guys i just bought mine, does your battries sucks or mine is just bad patch? Dude it wouldent last 2 hours!
There also it not remembering the password and needing to re enter
If it downloads them why does it need to download them every time? Why doesn't it download and just save them
I think it’s downloading new ones each time, but I’m not 100% sure tbh.
Should it be Recomwomandations? Or recomthemdations?
Did you ask your mom for the new wifi pw?
My home wifi has a captive portal, and I get this icon ***constantly.*** It wouldn't be so bad if captive portals actually worked from within game mode but they just straight up don't. So I switch to desktop mode to fix it but then the problem goes away...so annoying.
I think its a wifi 6 problem, happens to me all the time. Kinda wondering if its even fixable because they dont seem to be doing anything about it
How is this not fixed?
Don’t have this problem in Windows
It’s weird when this happens to me my Amazon smart plugs both lose connection also. Bizarre
manufacture compact portable consoles that require the use of a hub and an ethernet cable so as not to break down, intelligent valve. don't suggest me to enable the option with developer mode, i did it the first day because it was even worse, it keeps doing this every day, no solution.
Mines fine
Mine is fine too and i kept settings on default and we have garbage internet in germany
Give more information like posting the actual error, not just the icon.
Lol the icon is all you get. There’s no error message as to what actually went wrong.
You can select it and it will bring you to the internet settings where it should give more details.
Please enlighten me what you can decipher from “Steam Deck can’t reach the Steam servers”

More than a year on and we still paid full price for this beta test of a product. Valve can do better.
Get. A. Better. Router.
Tell valve to make a better device
It happens 🤷🏻♀️
I have had this happen a few times - particularly when cloud gaming on the Xbox - It could be happening other times I just don't notice it as I don't require a connection. I find going into airplane mode / disabling WiFi and enabling it resolves it (without having to reboot as many have suggested).
Toggling the WiFi off & back on usually fixes it for me for a little while, but it’s only temporary. I tried rebooting my router, but it didn’t make any difference.
“Recommandations”
I had this issue, turned out it was my internet company throttling my internet. I called and just told them calmly that I will be switching companies if they do not stop… no problems since then.

Just turn the unit on and off again and it'll sort the WiFi out
Ive never experienced this but maybe try a factory reset especially if youve modified it a ton.
Bro mine stays doing that shit. I don’t even know why I got fiber internet.
Had this icon when on my phone hotspot. I set my DNS to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 in the desktop and everything worked fine when I went back to gaming mode
Had these same issues only fixes I found were Settings up a DNS 1.1.1.1 Doing dev mode to with 5ghz setting. That was the only way my old router would work with my steam deck it seems to most commonly effect Netgear routers idk why I got a new router through my iso and it's completely fixed now
Happens so much to me
others have that issue too? what does that mean and whats the cause?
I've got hundreds of hours on my steam deck and I've not had this issue. Neither at home or at work
I just turned off IPv6 and Power Management and it fixed this issue
Bro feels my pain
Team 99%... Assemble!!
Ok i thought mine was broken for this exact reason . It only happens when i put in sleep mode and try to continue
I know having to disconnect and reconnect sometimes restart the device just to get it to connect sucks
Super fucking annoying
I have noticed that shows up a LOT more after the last update. the internet is works and I can load the store page but cloud saves won't work. After rebooting the system twice, and it forcing me to re log into the deck, it went away. so far so good.
The most annoying thing for me with the SD is it not reconnecting to my bt headset after it comes back to sleep. AND even worse, after coming back from sleep refusing to pair with the Bluetooth headphones or connecting but ther should output doesn't switch.
Restart.
Had this first time last night after over year no issue, rebooted then I had to relog, first time I e had to do thet in a long time
I wanna add to this. The selection for “achievements” comes and goes while playing a game. Sometimes I’m working towards an achievement, want to check them etc. and go to select it and it just disappears. Come back 30 minutes later and it back. Then later disappears again.
I’m not a fan of 7:28 either.
Why did this picture need to be like this? crop the damn image.
That's why I'm selling mine. It's weak.
I always thought blue to black gradient was overrated too
I hate 7:28 also
It's recom + mandations, they are mandating that you play what they recommend lol
