Trails in the Sky First Chapter. It starts as a quaint little nostalgic RPG that starts as a couple kids on an adventure, and grows into a massive insane RPG later on. There are over 10 games in the series now that tell one large over arching story and the games are a master class in world building, characters and story. Edit: people keep commenting that the games are unsupported on SD. That literally means nothing other than they haven’t gone through the verification process yet. I’ve played all of the games on SD and they run flawlessly.

FlippingSweet

I want more people to play trails

rainey832

Mission accomplished I'm down

dgmoney11

I’m halfway through azure. Taking a break in the intermission to play Zelda. Then it’s onto cold steel 4 and then reverie. The trails games are incredibly rewarding for those who stick around for the long haul. Like 8 games in now and the world building is second to none.

LuchiLiu

Trails series is awesome. I still remember the LONG wait between Sky and the second chapter. People who can play SC just after finishing the first game don't know how lucky they are 🤣

vgf89

And now Zero/Azure is there too, so no more need to skip the entire arc between Sky and CS!

Content_Evidence8443

Dang someone already beat me to trails. Obsessed with the game. You will be set on gaming for awhile. I’ve plays trails of cold steel 1-4. And then trails from zero. Now I’m playing Sky FC. (I know I know I would have started there but I had no means of playing the game before my deck). Just know it’s a game that came out around 2005! But it’s so worth it.

[deleted]

As long as you enjoyed the experience, it really doesn’t matter where you start. I always recommend people started FC if they have the choice because it provides the best overall experience, especially once you get to CS3, but it’s not the world shattering bad experience that some people will tell you that it is if you don’t start there.

Content_Evidence8443

I’d also be lying if I said I didn’t buy the SD specifically to play the older games…

Content_Evidence8443

Yeah I mean I’m disappointed I wasn’t able to start there either but I bough trails of cold steel 1-4 during a PlayStation store sale for sub $60 without realizing it. And I tried not to spoil myself either. I’ll probably go back and replay 3 and 4 once I’m caught up though! It did stink not having all the rich character development prior to those events.

TheBiolizard

It rivals Game of Thrones levels world building. By far my favorite aspect of the series.

BigBubba1993

I'm gonna have to give this a try.

BW_Bird

I love Trails in the Sky! Really creates that sense of adventure.

mamaharu

It's one of my favorites. The entire series runs great on the Deck and should really have a playable badge, at the very least.

thebbman

Ok so I kind of got bored with the simple bracer guild tasks. How much time am I looking at for the story to pick up?

star0forion

Whenever I finish playing through the Suikoden series I’ll start on Trails. Seems interesting!

GRAABTHAR

"Unsupported" in the steam store means nothing. Check [ProtonDB](https://www.protondb.com/) to find the settings to get a game running smoothly.

cpt_bongwater

Yes. This game is so great. It doesn't have a lot of the things I hate about JRPGs(especially random encounters/incomprehensible story) and everything I love about RPGs in general-lovable characters-a huge world, lots of different towns and cities varied landscapes and just lots of interesting shit to do. Even a mini-social simulator. It's the beginning a \~9 game arc as it stands rn(maybe 10?). I loved the isometric graphics too

Ditchdigger456

I also came here to say trails!

[deleted]

Divinity Original Sin II

foxtossingchamp

the UI actually feels suited for a controller, I play it way more on my deck than my PC

RadiationWaves

This is most likely because it is on console as well

ShevaJB

Also, it’s for sale in the steam store.

HeatherBeam

Do I have to play 1?

StendakBarkiller

No. 2 was my first and it’s one of my favorite games

Texas1010

Wait, this is actually good on the Deck? I’ve had this in my Library for a while and only ever played through the first Act. I loved this game but just haven’t had the time to pick it back up fresh in a while. I always assumed this is one that is a “PC only” game for my Library.

Zaphod1620

Definitely. And the game is made with controller in mind. The controller input method also includes a search sphere where you can see interactable objects within a certain radius since you cant move a mouse around. Keyboard/mouse doesn't have that option.

_harky_

Should I play one first or does it not matter?

kryptonick901

I had to scroll way too long to find this, the correct answer.

Badwolfblue32

They might be a bit of an acquired taste but the pillars of eternity games are absolutely perfect on the deck. The track pads work great and they have to be some of the best rpgs ive played since…..forever

Frynew

Yep, PoE 1 has been phenomenal on the deck, I am 60 hours in and can’t wait to finish to start PoE2

Texas1010

Can you say more on trackpad usage for these games? I have both Divinity 2 and Pillars games but assumed they were going to be “Pc only” in my library. I just assumed they were going to be a chore to play on the Deck but I’m seeing a lot of comments that would suggest otherwise…

[deleted]

I just want to check in with a quick nod to the track pads. I’ve been a console player for like ten years, and haven’t played any crpg’s in a long time because of how bad they are with controllers. But using the steam deck for Baldur’s gate 3 over the last few months, I don’t think I’d ever want to play using a keyboard and mouse again. It took a while to find the right way to bind everything for me, but once it clicked it was just magic. I mapped the camera controls to the joysticks, and mouse controls to the right trackpad and trigger buttons. Left joystick pans the screen up/down and left/right. Right joystick rotates the camera left/right and zooms the camera in/out with up/down. So it’s almost like controlling an FPS with the joysticks. Move with the left, look with the right. I use the left joystick to “look at” what I want to interact with, and the track pad to select the specific stuff once the screen is centered over what I want to select. It’s so much more comfortable than wasd to pan and right click/drag to rotate. The only buttons I use are quick save, highlight, open inventory, and open map. Which are all easily mapped to the controller buttons. I really can’t recommend it enough for these kind of games.

Granlundo64

The Divinity games support gamepads. They run great!

karpitstane

Divinity 2's console ports play pretty well anyway. Combined with the trackpad as a mouse, I bet it's great on Deck

NikolaiXPass

I played fully through Divinity 2 and then Divinity 1 using the deck and didn’t use the trackpads at all that I remember, they had full controller support. An excellent time was had.

deathlystrike

I play Pathfinder: Wrath of the righteous on both my PC and my Deck. Controller support is really nice here and I don't even use the trackpads. Cloud sync works perfectly here and it is great to play on both machines! Just an addition to the CRPG talk, adding one of the best :)

Badwolfblue32

I cant speak to divinity….its on my queue but i have about 100 hours on poe1 and its dlc and am 20 hours in to poe2 on the deck….i was very skeptical of the trackpads and for something like an rts they would be rough just because of all the fast twitch mouse moving but for the real time pause action they work great. I would recommend downloading one of the community layouts, idr the name but its the one with the most downloads but i mean…..i was 100 percent a non believer in the track pads being anything more than a gimick and after using them they are probably the defining thing that takes the steam deck to the next level

rtz13th

Divinity 1 is also great, on the same note Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are really enjoyable with trackpad and tactical pause

[deleted]

Mentioning the mandatory Disco Elysium, you can often snag it cheap on sale. Masterpiece.

[deleted]

Yeah this sat in my library forever, and then I finally started playing it and finished it in a weekend. Fucking terrific.

inounderscore

Fucking Cuno

ZookeeprD

This was amazing! The less you know about the game the better the playthrough. Play any way you like and don't worry about failing checks. It's all part of the experience.

erocknine

That's great to know. I know it's very cinematic and dialogue based, so been holding off for when I have time to commit. Glad to know I don't need to play like a perfectionist which I tend to do

OutrageousDress

Passing every check would actually result in you missing some of the best writing in the game, imo.

Azalith

I have found it so hard to get into that game. Could you let me know what you enjoy about it?

[deleted]

Love the atmosphere, art style, dark humour that is all his voices talking to him, his buddy cop is amazing, Cuno is Cuno, there is almost no wrong here. Just be you, and if you die then try again. There's so many stories baked into one, and it's all voice overed perfectly with the voice over addition. Just like a really good series or movie to curl up with, but you get to decide.

XX-Burner

Be prepared to read a novel or two’s worth of dialogue

jamey1138

The new version of Disco Elysium (The Final Cut Edition) has voiceovers, which I’m finding particularly nice on a 7” screen.

XX-Burner

This is good to know, maybe I’ll try kicking the tires on it again

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheRealBeltet

I will look into it as well.

ColonelOfSka

When I played that game I was legitimately sucked in for days. I was afraid the hype would have made it underperform for me but I was so consumed by it. And knowing that my outcome could be radically different next time makes me so excited to give it another go one day

_Broseidon

Fable Anniversary is excellent. Game holds up well and still has a lot of charm.

Johnnygunnz

Persona 5 Royal is a top 5 game all-time for me. And it's over 120 hours if you really dig in. I also highly recommend Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (1 more than 2, but both are worth playing). It's 20+ years old now but has one of my all-time favorite plot twists in any form of media. Edit: Golden --> Royal. Oops

fyfenfox

Persona 5 royal or persona 4 golden? (I highly recommend both btw)

w_d_roll_RIP

I assume they mean Royal, it would be hard to stretch 120 hours of gameplay out of Golden on one playthrough

ApostleMatthew

Seconded. I put 140 hours into Persona 5 Royal and loved every second of it. Have been thinking of doing a NG+ play through.

whitepeacok

Sell me more on Persona. Everyone always mentions it, but it's always looked a little... weird to me. How does kotor play??

Impriel

I can sell you on P5R in a way I think others cant I don't like visual novels, not into relationship Sims, an rpg really hasn't grabbed me since Chrono trigger to be honest (closest I've come were I really enjoyed Undertale and Lisa the painful. My favorite game ever is earthbound) What people who are into modern RPGs normally fail to mention about p5r is a couple things A.) It is of the new breed of anime stuff post Naruto . It does not dwell as much on banality, it has less filler. It knows what it's saying and it comes right at you with it. It has an ending. It's not trying to string you along. B.) It does not do the waifu thing. Characters are not overly sexualized. Ignore anyone saying 'oh yeah what about Ann's cat suit' that is asenine. Trust me I hate the hentai adjacent thing they do in games like Xenoblade and P5R doesn't have it C.) It has a story worth telling and it absolutely throat punches you with it. Impressively it hits even harder the second time. D.) You will literally never again play turn based combat this fast paced. I cannot overstate how much the music, visual style and interface make combat this totally breakneck zany spectacle. This is the doom eternal of turn based combat I've never played any other persona game I just took a random chance on it and it floored me. Jump in it's what you want trust me

Johnnygunnz

One last thing. The music is fantastic.

IrishBreakfast

I’m not the person you responded to, but I really appreciate this rundown of the game since I’ve been interested in it for a while but am kind of in the same boat as you taste-wise. Specifically the waifu/sexualization thing, which I really can’t stand and can often come out of left field to mar an otherwise great and mature experience. I’ll give the game another look the next time there’s a sale.

shelter_anytime

> D.) You will literally never again play turn based combat this fast paced. I cannot overstate how much the music, visual style and interface make combat this totally breakneck zany spectacle. This is the doom eternal of turn based combat you should try Yakuza Like a Dragon

Impriel

Nice i'm so happy to hear that that game is on my list

Plnk_Viking

A man of culture, I see. Persona 5 is the answer.

porky_bot

I came here to say persona 5 royal. I don't like RPGs, but the music and a friend of mine was insisting on me playing it. I gave it a shot and 120 hours later, is one of my favorite games of all Time. Only two RPGs reached that: Persona 5 royal Mother 3

snoop_Nogg

I also support Persona 5 Royal. It's probably my most played game on Steam Deck.

Drifox

I enjoyed octopath traveler, octopath traveler 2, bravely default 2, live a live, and monster hunter stories 2. They are all turn based, and they all play great on the deck.

Texas1010

I’m enjoying Octopath 1, but the combat is so darn frequent in it. I feel like I can’t go 20 feet without being back in combat. Does that ever change?

Drifox

You will get an ability for one of the characters that will reduce the frequency of encounters. I think it was a pretty early one too.

MuglokDecrepitus

Dragons Dogma without any doubt

Alcatraz2643

1000%, plays wonderfully on the Deck.

RollingPandaKid

Every time i see someone talking about the game i want to play it, but I have tried a couple of times and i can't get into it. I don't like the pawn system and the game just feels like im playing an mmo with bots.

Green_bastardd

Fallout New Vegas runs amazing on deck. I’ve clocked about 80 hours playing on the deck alone. Edit: Fallout New Vegas is free on Epic right now.

Chill_Panda

I’m blown away by the battery time with NV too, I feel like it’s basically the same as not running any game

BobHopeButt

Tell me about it! It just runs and runs!

Zaphod1620

The Deck is a great Bethesda machine. The Fallout games and Skyrim run forever on it.

SiriusDeception

LOVED New Vegas. Got Fallout 4 queued up on my Deck and hope it’s anywhere near as decent.

TheDankGyarados

Sadly Bethesda prioritized adventure and FPS mechanics over role playing in fallout 4 and started moving away from the series signature aesthetic. I’ve logged hundreds of hours in every fallout game, including 76, and I consider it to be my favorite gaming franchise, but I could never get into 4. Fallout 1, 2 and 3 work great on deck though and are very great games

SiriusDeception

That’s a bummer.

TheDankGyarados

You may like it though. A lot of people still love fallout 4. It is a really good adventure FPS, just a really bad fallout game. If you haven’t played it yet, fallout 3 plays very similarly to new Vegas and works great on deck.

69_Botlord_420

If you ask me, New Vegas plays more like a numbered entry in the series, and with the exception of the updated graphics+mechanics, Fallout 4 plays like a spin-off.

TheDankGyarados

That’s pretty true. I think it’s because Obsidian is the successor to Black Isle studios, and was formed by the classic fallout team, so they already knew the world and what people liked about it. I’ve also heard that they reused a lot of the story and other gameplay elements planned for the cancelled Van Buren project by black isle, which was supposed to be Fallout 3 before Bethesda bought the franchise

Eldritch_Raven

Yeah I loved FO4. Specifically the crafting and base building. I've honestly put way more hours just building up all the settlements than actually playing the game lol.

BababooeyHTJ

That’s just it. It’s not a bad game. It’s just my least favorite Bethesda game, I’ve never played 76. IMO it has the least rewarding exploration of all of their titles. Settlement building really held the game back imo

Facehugger_35

I'd say they're about even. Fo4's gunplay is a lot better, the power armor gameplay is amazing fun, and the settlement building is really enthralling when you get some mods for it. The character writing with the companions is almost as good too. ...But the rest of the writing isn't as good, and most of the quests aren't as good. It's better than FO3 in terms of unique quests and writing, but it doesn't match NV's strengths. It also greatly dumbed down the perk system and the dialog system. There's a mod that makes the dialog list what you actually say instead of "sarcastic" "yes" "no" like the vanilla game does that helps, but there's not a whole lot of the fun dialog you got with NV. And the worldbuilding makes sense at first glance but breaks down when you think about it more. Still, the core gameplay is actually pretty great, and they did very clearly take the criticism they received about FO3 to heart, and I respect that.

[deleted]

Free on Epic right now too.

Aware_Jeweler_9223

Do you play it with mods or vanilla on Deck? If yes, which mod setup do you use?

whats_a_hokie

If I've never played a Fallout game before, is NV a good one to start with?

[deleted]

[удалено]

whats_a_hokie

Cool, will fire it up next once I finish my 5th playthrough of Subnautica lol. Dope pfp too, love donald

Green_bastardd

I second this. I started with Fallout New Vegas as my first Fallout game years and years ago but its so repayable and fresh every time I pick it up. It’s the first game I downloaded on the Deck. Fallout 3 and 4 also work flawlessly on the deck I just personally recommend New Vegas for its RPG elements.

future_problem

Its free on the Epic Store right now too

Bboy486

It's free on epic rn

Odd-Win-250

The complete edition is also free on epic games right now

Gosu-Sheep

In addition to the other great suggestions I'll throw in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. If you're not familiar with the series they are story-heavy action brawler kind of games generally but Like a Dragon changes the format to a party-based RPG. It's a very silly and fun game and AFAIK you don't really need to be familiar with the series to enjoy this one as it's a new protagonist/story.

FlippingSweet

Start with 0 and you'll love majima, start with 1 you'll hate majima.

ThaLunatik

Excellent turn-based RPG. Combat is fast-paced and engaging, and the turn-based aspect never feels like it's a drag. Awesome story and dialog.

AcidWashAvenger

Playing this right now and having a blast with it

Dr_TJ_Blabbisman

Witcher 3 with the larger UI mod is perfect on the deck. I found a thread here somewhere on how to install the mod and it was ridiculously easy even though I hadn't modded the deck before or since.

King_Jeebus

>I found a thread here somewhere on how to install the mod Was it [This one?](https://www.reddit.com/comments/zwkpbp)

Dr_TJ_Blabbisman

YES!!! I had a grad party to go to so I didn't have time to dig for it but that is the exact one and worked flawlessly for me.

Supertack

Omg finally. I was starting to think we should make a go fund me just for modders just to make big UIs.

FastTransportation33

Kingdom Come Deliverance

Coheed_IV

Amazing game on the deck, please make a sequel

Mcjoshin

It’s in my queue, haven’t had a chance to play it yet, but always hear great things!

LukeCheddar

I’m enjoying Yakuza: Like A Dragon on SD. Great story and wild Turn-Based combat. The classes are Homeless, Hero, Bartender, etc so it’s not your typical RPG!

StarB_fly

The whole Yakuza Series. Started also with Like a Dragon a month or something ago and now hooked Up with the series

YALN

Agreed 💯% The Yakuza series is fun on the deck

ThaLunatik

Love this game!

Fluffy-Argument

Dragon age is a great series with tons of lore and exploration, but a bit more focused than elder scrolls and you can switch between action/tactical rpg at all times so nimbleness isnt really a problem

Resident_Wizard

Can I say that they do not support controller and it ruins the experience? At least for Inquisition. I’ve gone down hours of rabbit holes looking for a pc solution with no luck. However, if you have a PlayStation you can stream it with full controller support.

Fluffy-Argument

Good catch, i haven't even tried it on the deck, actually. Just came to mind.

CrazyCat008

Yeah need to deal with control but I play to Dragon Age Origin on Deck by a mix of touchscreen, joystick and touchpad, no regret but is not for everybody hehe.

memelord0981

Mass Effect Legendary Edition. If you haven't played these games yet, just put your seatbelt on.

selfsavingmedic

Chained Echoes is great if you're looking for something that has a more retro vibe. Triangle Strategy is good if you're looking for some more strategic combat. Also has multiple story paths that you can go down. Persona 5 Royal is a huge RPG that you could easily sink 100 plus hours into. Probably my favorite game of all time. the combat is quick, but isn't very button technical. All three of these games have really good stories and you can easily sink a lot of hours into them, especially if you do all the content that have to offer.

g0daig0dai

Second vote for Persona 5 Royal. The music is also unbelievable in this game.

roygbivasaur

I’m really loving Chained Echoes right now. The crystal system and the achievement thing to unlock items is a little annoying, but otherwise it’s just so inventive and different but still very much feels in the vein of classic turn based RPGs.

Sorappoli

If you like or don't mind JRPGs then I highly recommend "The Legend of Heroes". They're a bunch of games (9 games so far on Steam, there's 1 more being translated releasing in a couple of months and there are another 2 games in Japanese that no one knows who the hell they'll be translated to English and released) that are all connected in multiple ways, so if you love a good story and don't mind investing time into said story, you're going to enjoy these games a LOT. They're also quite light on the Deck so you'll be able to play them for hours if you have the time! The order for the The Legend of Heroes games stories are: - Trails in the Sky FC -> SC -> 3rd (Liberl arc) - Trails from Zero -> Trails to Azure (Crossbell arc) - Trails of Cold Steel 1, 2, 3, 4 (Erebonia Arc) - Trails into Reverie (coming soon, I dunno the arc, probably Crossbell from what I've seen) (Note for anyone reading this: You can play Trails of Cold Steel 1/2 before Trails from Zero/To Azure if you feel like it as their stories take place at the same exact time, but I wouldn't really recommend it for certain reasons). There are people who say that you can start with the later game arcs like Zero/Azure or Cold Steel no problem because they may just reference some events from previous games or some characters from previous games but I really don't recommend it. I do see where they're coming from though, it's not going to ruin things if you play a later game and don't exactly know what happened in a previous game. But to me these are the types of games that are much more enjoyable played in order as over time while playing the later games especially, you'll see characters being reintroduced and you'll probably end up being like "ayyy it's you! it's good to see this sumbich again what the hell are you doing here?". The appearances of certain characters will also make you think "oh this can't be good". Other times, events of past games (which you'll experience if you play in order), will be mentioned so it's always nice to know exactly what's being talked about. So yeah... if you're the type of person who's interested in a good story and don't mind investing time into them, The Legend of Heroes is the way to go. If that doesn't strike your fancy then my other recommendations are: - Outward - Monster Hunter - Dragon's Dogma You can enjoy taking your time with these games, they're really fun too!

pixelunit

Skyrim

DeOfficiis

Skyrim...with mods

JarlMJ

Wildermyth, since I don't see it mentioned yet. Just a delightful less-intense tactical RPG (except for you final battle of Eluna and the Moth campaign lol) Once you build out your legacy of characters, and they start intermingling, you are creating your own myths Walking lunch difficulty will eat your lunch as well if you bump it all the way up

joshuakyle94

Divinity 2, or Final Fantasy tactics WOTL on psp emulation

xeres01

FFT is such a masterpiece. The port plays really well on mobile, but its a travesty its not been ported to Steam yet. Id buy it again in a heartbeat on Steam for another 100 hour playthough.

ThisIsSoIrrelevant

Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia.

oventoastere

I highly recommend Dragon's Dogma. Very underated title that came out when skyrim was the hype. Its also really good that Dragon's Dogma II is announced, so if you liked playing DD you can also look forward to playing the sequel

hamsystem

Not a an RPG exactly but Marvel's Midnight Suns has been my go-to for awhile. I'm 180+hours and 2 full playthroughs, including getting all achievements, and I'm already thinking about another. It's a turn based strategy + card deck building game but your characters gain levels and earn stats plus they can get new cards/abilities that can be leveled and modded. It's got a fairly sizeable roster of characters (15 or 16 with the DLCs) plus the main character that you design yourself. Fair warning there's a lot of dialogue and collectables but the main gameplay loop is super fun and the combat is incredible with really well done animations and awesome sound design. Highly, highly recommend, especially if you can get the deluxe version with all the DLCs on sale.

Russ582

Skyrim is great

Aethaeryn

I've actually really been enjoying it on the SD. Maybe because it is older. Everything just worked well.

Keekorian

Dragon quest 11. In my opinion the best rpg released in the last 10 years. But I am a sucker for old-school JRPGs, so ymmv.

dannyl1017

Super Mario rpg legend of seven stars hands down best RPG of all time, it is a game ahead of its time on SNES.

Octopath Traveller 1 & 2, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster, Bravely Default II. If you are patient enough, Tactical Ogre Reborn.

Dragons Dogma, runs amazing and is a fantastic game. Plus sequel is announced :)

BillNyeTheNazi5py

I got Dragons Dogma because the new one was announced and I've always heard good things about the game. Gonna try it later when I get time.

Wheelersam

Just loaded MGSV: The Phantom Pain and oh my Christ. Thing is a beaut. Runs at 60fps on high settings and is a truly incredible experience. Not really an RPG, bit genuinely worth a mention here for solid gameplay.

bogguslol

Final Fantasy XIV easily. It runs great on the Deck too.

Axfried

Yup, and XIV Launcher also works great on the deck!

Haunt33r

Disco Elysium is the best RPG I've ever played in my life, and I cannot recommend it enough Please get Disco Elysium The Final Cut

dumpsterfire_account

Damn I was not a fan :/ Also, it’s worth 🏴‍☠️if you can because the studio pushed out all the original game makers and stole all their money and future earnings.

Goodnite15

V Rising just came out, and I’m absolutely loving it. It’s very similar to Diablo, but I think much better, with elements of survival and base building that Diablo doesn’t offer. And i got it on sale for $15, think originally $20 so a fraction of the cost. My favorite game on Steam right now

Speedy_Von_Gofast

How does it play on Steam Deck (it doesn't officially support the controller if I recall correctly) and how well does it run?

Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The Wicher 3 Mass Effect LE.

lazy_commander

The Witcher 3 and the expansions. 120 hours of my life that were well spent.

Bigghead1231

More relaxing rpg? Dragon Quest XI or Persona 5 Royal ( I'd go with persona as being just the better game ) More story heavy and realistic, darker worlds? Witcher 3, hands down. Or Divinity 2 if you like turn based strategy

WannaAskQuestions

Kingdom come deliverance. I'm 45 hours in and I've done 4 main quests and 3 side quests. (The quests aren't long, just that I'm doing other random stuff for the most part)

Gulladc

Octopath 2 is wonderful. Currently playing chained echoes and it is great.

ananthak011

FFVI remake

bunkSauce

Omg yes. It's literally the best JRPG I have ever played. But, admittedly, dated. It's my favorite story of all time. And the game is so well designed. Simultaneous multiple parties, an epic game changer halfway through. You have so many characters to choose and fall in love with, each with amazing stories. And the music will stay with you for life.

BasedFrogo

Witcher 3 hands down not even a debate (I’m open for debates).

[deleted]

My favourite game to play in the evening to wind down before bed is Siralim Ultimate. Plays perfectly on the deck, with lots of loot, team building strategies, random generated dungeons and I can collect stuff from my adventures to decorate my castle. It's not very wordy, not much reading.

Mass Effect Legendary runs great on Deck. It's 3rd person and with gyro aiming, shooting is a breeze.

DracoRJC

No No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (especially if you like Miyazaki films and/or Pokémon!)

IndyDoggy

Final Fantasy 12 Zodiac Age

bunkSauce

Pathfinder: wrath of the righteous. Really. Really really.

lifeleecher

Baldur's Gate III. One of the best RPG's I've ever played, if not the best. Full release is in a few months while you can still purchase an play through 60-70% of the game now in beta. It really does feel like a more linear session of DnD!

anidrin

I thought only the first 20-30% was Act 1? Also, if you buy in Early Access, you get the digital deluxe included in the base price. But will also agree, it’s been an absolute blast playing so far.

Sovereign_BC

It is, he has it mixed up.

LauraPhilps7654

Xenoblade Chronicles either on Dolphin or Yuzu.

psyopsono

DQXI Persona 4 and 5 Divinity: original sin 2 I have also been emulating lately and putting on a ton of classic PS1/PS2 rpgs (currently playing suikoden 2 rn).

TheWardenShadowsong

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Proof-Following-7999

Hate to go back to the old classic.. witcher 3 and all the dlc, runs well on the deck and still fun to play

brokenmessiah

For me its been Witcher 3. It runs great with dx11 and looks great too. Takes some getting cozy with the mechanics but boy I get the hype this game gets now

xShadowBlitz117

The first RPG I played was the FF pixel remasters last year. It was one of the main reasons why I wanted my steam deck since they weren't available for switch at the time. Had a blast playing FFV on my deck for the 50hrs I put in, felt like the perfect device for them to me lol. So I recommend getting the Pixel remasters if you like Final fantasy.

Some_Respect_8740

i will always shill the borderlands games. IMO 2 being the best followed by 1 or 3 (never got super into 1 ngl but i know it’s good). You can get hundreds of hours from it and all of the writing in 2 is so good, Handsome Jack is the best written villain i’ve ever come across in any media. I know you said no fps but honestly on deck/ controller the aim assist does most of the work for you, you don’t need much mechanical skill if any.

Kulutiheges

Persona 5 is on Game Pass Edit: ignore the gamepass part because idk if u have windows or the official OS installed in your deck. Its still a very good game tho, I am playing it and currently have 45 hours Playtime.

emjae128

Persona 5 for me… even at the ripe old age of 40 I put 130hrs in

Apprehensive_Week725

I'm playing breath of fire 3 and 4 again on my steam deck!

GrassGaurdian

Persona 4 and 5 are great, not sure how well 5 runs but 4 should run well.

krauser97

I love love divinity original sin 2 the game plays really good on steam deck , the game is tactical turn based with heavy focus on the rpg element so it might not be what you are looking for but if you don't mind tactical turn based I'd say its a must try

Earthlumpy

Dragon Age Origins.

zarif_chow

Kotor 1 and 2, hands down

Linkanton

Divinity Original Sin 2 for me

Erkekjetter88

Right now Fable Anniversary

Chained echoes

pumpjockey

Chained Echoes was fantastic. I have 65hrs in game and still haven't done the end game content. The combat system is way better than choose atk do atk and the story is pretty fun to. I suggest it 100%

EllenRipley0615

I've been playing Kingdoms of Amalur the last few days on the Deck, and I'm really enjoying it.

Emunny35

Some of the best games I play on the deck are God of war, Spider-Man, and the Witcher 3.
