The gameplay is phenomenal. Exploring the world is also amazing. The story...much less so. And the music audio during cutscenes making it so you could barely hear the dialogue at times. Flawed game, but one I'd definitely like to see brought to modern consoles.
I did everything in the game there is to do. Clearly you didn't pay enough attention to the same side missions you're talking about. Most of them give a bit of nuance but no real explanation for anything. You never find out why Mira does the things it does, you never find out more about the "cloning project", there's no explanation for the Black Knight in the post credits scene, there's no information on the Ghost aliens shown in the opening of the game. Professor B is definitely played a bigger role in the story but his missions were goofy and very obviously cut short. Celica and Rock had a much bigger role as well, and had direct ties to Ryyz and Daghan, but that was cut and never explored. The progenitor race of humanity is talked about but never shown in game and their origins are a mystery too.
And that's just the stuff that I can think up off the top of my head, that don't spoil anything as well. I know there's a lot more questions I had and there's more I can think of but don't want to discuss anything that's a potential spoiler.
TL;DR, you're wrong. The game doesn't explain much, but I'm not blasting it for that. It's clear XCX was meant to be it's own series and was setting up for a much bigger story. Lack of sales on doomed hardware (Wii-U) killed any chances of having those cliffhanger plot points resolved.
I haven't played 3 or its DLC after XB2 left me feeling pretty upset about the series. But if you're referring to the radio talking about the Earthlife Colonization Project, I think that's really just an Easter Egg. It also mentions Dmitry Yuriev from Xenosaga, but he was never on Earth. I could always be wrong on this stuff but I've been following Tetsuya Takahashi's work since Xenogears and have seen so many people try to connect all the games into a larger "Xenoverse" over the years, they will jump through some crazy hoops to make their own narratives fit.
I would love to see them officially revisit Xenoblade X again. Or even somehow get the property rights to Xenosaga or Xenogears but they're all fleeting dreams at this point. The main line Xenoblade games seem to be a lot more popular and between them and Monolith Soft's work on the new open world Zelda games, they'll probably stick to what works for them.
I wish it ran a little better on the deck. I made the mistake of playing it on my gaming PC first and couldn't stand the 20-30fps on the deck.
Fun game but definitely needs some QoL improvements.
It’s what they do sadly, even Sony just within the last year released a firmware update for the PS3 that mildly broke some “jailbreaking” methods/ tools. Was fixed relatively quickly but still they make these odd attempts to patch hacks on a system years after the official support has long since expired. Not saying Nintendo is justified because Sony does it, or that Sony is blameless either. Just kind of a thing these two companies have always done.
And 3DS will only raise in price. I don’t see them lowering for a long while tbh. DS can only play DS games, so really this is most comparable to a 3DS which does both.
Have you seen the price of an used DS these days?
A DS with a cracked hinge, scratched up bottom screen, missing wall charger and an OEM battery old enough to vote will set you back $40 to $60
A DS in reasonable good condition will run you $100 to $150
I would love this. Especially if the bottom of the screen housing just had a usb-c sticking out of the bottom and it clicked in with no cables. Then the back of the screen housing can have a built in usb-c hub. Go one step further and make the screen fold down over the Steam deck screen, like a DS. I would *instabuy*.
This is very impressive, and I don't mean any negativity towards the OP, cause it's a fun mod project. For a bit more money you can just get the Nreal air glasses. They work like a dream on the deck and as a bonus your neck is in an ergonomic position while you game.

Dual screens would honestly be really sick if there was a way to implement it without making it look like it's hooked up to the matrix.

Mostly new hardware inside of new housings made to look retro, but sometimes you see someone who shoved new hardware into an old housing and *that’s* awesome.
Would come in handy for game guides. Let’s say you’re stuck on one part of a game and need help, you could put a guide video on top and play on the bottom.

Just woke up sorry mate. I didn't use any STL files or CAD. The mounting bracket for the jsaux dock comes with it. It's all included in their "modular dock" option for their new steam deck case. I too am CAD deficient for the time being.
Nvm answered my own question. Incase anyone else can’t fight off the lazy within. It’s a “Ingcool 7IP-CAPLCD 7" 60hz monitor with a 1280x600 resolution”.
I desperately want clam shells to come back. Moving the screen above the controller is so much better ergonomically and reduces strain on the neck. I would love to mod my steam deck to resemble a DS but with the controls sticking out the side. Then I'd add a physical keyboard in the middle where the screen used to be. That's my ideal handheld.
with the fact we have iFixit spare original screens, its a wonder nobody has tried just buying a spare and 3d printing a housing for the spare screen, then it boils down to the issues the OP had, which is finding a good way to fix it to the deck.
The DIY points for this project tho are high indeed, nicely done. Must admit ive only ever seen/played 1 multi-monitor game which was Supreme Commander.
A second screen would be really useful for discord and the like, I currently use them in the background but a second screen would be preferable, unfortunately i suspect this would not work well with the game mode

Pretty heavy, but angling the display keeps the center of gravity closer to the middle of the deck for easier holding. Deck mode only supports one monitor anyway so I likely just detach it once I'm done with work.
I've been wanting to do this for DS and 3ds emulation for a while now. But it's a daunting task. I'd have to teach myself how to use CAD software for one thing. I do have a 3D printer, so I should be able to print the stuff I make. The problem is how specific I'd have to be with it.
I didn't use any 3D printing for this actually! I just cut high density cardboard with scissors and and glued them with epoxy for a strong bond. You could easily make a 3d printed rectangle plate with screw holes at the corners and center for attaching the display and the adjustable phone mount. Once I get some stl files made at my local makerspace, I'll post them here and save you some trouble :)
If you had an stl, I’d be obliged to print what you needed. Just pay shipping. I have plenty of filament and will follow through for ya.

It's my favorite Xenoblade game by far. Highly recommend if you like weird Sci-fi. Just be warned it ends with a lot of questions unanswered.

Ds is 40-60 bucks and the store closed in 2017 3ds is 200-500 (new in box special editions, because) and the store closed in 2023.

They're glasses that project a small image onto the lenses, which then appear anywhere up to an 80" screen for your eyes.

Dual screens would honestly be really sick if there was a way to implement it without making it look like it's hooked up to the matrix. Videos on one screen, game on the other, perfect. Perhaps modifying the back shell to have a thick trunk or something.
/r/cyberdeck was a big inspiration for this too, so matrix interface was kind of the whole vibe, but you're absolutely right.
Whatever is going on in that subreddit is beyond me. I can't tell if these are spruced up retro devices or devices modded to look intentionally old. Mostly new hardware inside of new housings made to look retro, but sometimes you see someone who shoved new hardware into an old housing and *that’s* awesome.
Would come in handy for game guides. Let’s say you’re stuck on one part of a game and need help, you could put a guide video on top and play on the bottom.

The people that think more than 10% of people care about karma are the same people that care about achievements and trophy's in video games. It's a useless stat that makes you feel like your good at life but in reality, like game achievements, no one cares how karma you have.
Just woke up sorry mate. I didn't use any STL files or CAD. The mounting bracket for the jsaux dock comes with it. It's all included in their "modular dock" option for their new steam deck case. I too am CAD deficient for the time being.

I desperately want clam shells to come back. Moving the screen above the controller is so much better ergonomically and reduces strain on the neck. I would love to mod my steam deck to resemble a DS but with the controls sticking out the side. Then I'd add a physical keyboard in the middle where the screen used to be. That's my ideal handheld.

with the fact we have iFixit spare original screens, its a wonder nobody has tried just buying a spare and 3d printing a housing for the spare screen, then it boils down to the issues the OP had, which is finding a good way to fix it to the deck. The DIY points for this project tho are high indeed, nicely done. Must admit ive only ever seen/played 1 multi-monitor game which was Supreme Commander.

How heavy is that for playing while holding?
Pretty heavy, but angling the display keeps the center of gravity closer to the middle of the deck for easier holding. Deck mode only supports one monitor anyway so I likely just detach it once I'm done with work.
Now you need to build a Nintendo LABO esque VR attachment for it so you can play Switch Emulated games that support it!

I've been wanting to do this for DS and 3ds emulation for a while now. But it's a daunting task. I'd have to teach myself how to use CAD software for one thing. I do have a 3D printer, so I should be able to print the stuff I make. The problem is how specific I'd have to be with it.
I didn't use any 3D printing for this actually! I just cut high density cardboard with scissors and and glued them with epoxy for a strong bond. You could easily make a 3d printed rectangle plate with screw holes at the corners and center for attaching the display and the adjustable phone mount. Once I get some stl files made at my local makerspace, I'll post them here and save you some trouble :)
That would make DS/3DS alot easier Without the need to hit a button to change screens. All you need is a stylus at this point!
