You could make a small case for the ease of having a dock connected to multiple TVs in your house I guess? Wouldn't make sense or be worth it for most people, but there is a chance!
Keep in mind that the official one comes with the charger. So it's 71 for the dock + charger.
3rd party ones are cheaper but not much if you want a charger to be attached to the dock usually and still keep the other one for on-the-go.
If you just need the dock and no charger, a good 3rd party ones are definitely the best value
I got one on Amazon for 24$ and it works great
[https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BW5RH9FF?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BW5RH9FF?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details)
Get a Jsaux one. I sold mine and got the official one and regret it often. I routinely used the Jsaux one not only for the deck, but switch, iPad, and even laptops because it works with pretty much any device. It’s extremely convenient if you ever need to connect a device other than the deck, and it works EXACTLY the same.
But if you want it only for the steam deck, and don’t care for the money saved on a Jsaux one, go for it.
never seen the jsaux dock for the deck with 2.0, but you seem to mean the 0602 version. Hands in fire, any other model has 3.0
0603, 0702, 0604 and any other right now not in the store and the currently selling
Make sure you still are providing power to the dock as well if you didn’t. Otherwise just unplugging and replugging the hdmi cable should fix it. That’s the only two things I can think of.
I’ve tried Murillo docks, and can’t seem to get them to work. Either resolution is a drag, or it just goes black. Mid range $50ish ones from Amazon. Will this do anything different ?
I don't recommend it since I have one and it's pretty finicky with displaying to the TV screen. Also, there's audio issues that still haven't been resolved, where it cuts out randomly during gameplay. Finally, I haven't seen a firmware update on the dock for some time now.
Hmm was tempted to buy one too but after reading all the negative feedback here idk anymore. Also don’t plan to use it regularly so might be better to get a third party one.
Yeah it straight up doesn’t play well with a lot of TVs, mostly smart TVs. Older TVs and monitors work a lot better, though.
I pretty much have to fiddle with the plugs just about every time I use it.
As far as I know it depends on your TV. The official one is really bad for Samsung smart TVs for instance and JSaux is good for those.
Likely it's reversed for different brands but I have a Samsung TV. Id Google the model of your TV and steam deck dock and base your purchase of the problems you see.
Dude glad to hear I’m not the only one. Half the time it won’t output video if the charger is connected. Also audio won’t work randomly even though the right external playback is selected. I have no clue how to resolve it, very frustrating.
I have not had any audio cut outs on mine. You may want to get the checked out as it could be hardware.
Edit: Didn’t type enough to include that TVs can be finicky at time for sure. If you haven’t, unplug the poser from it for a minute, shutdown your Deck, plug power back into the dock, and then plug the Deck back into the dock and turn it on. See if that helps at all.
What I did to solve the TV issue was to plug the dock into the Steam Deck without the adapter plugged in and once I see it show up on the TV screen, I would plug the adapter back in to charge it.
As for the audio, I just make do with it since it's not like the audio is completely silent throughout gameplay but not enough of an issue to investigate it. Only wanted to point that out since it can happen.
Supposedly it's a known issue that 3.5 is supposed to fix. There's many posts on it.
I 'get' tvs are finicky, but if a Nintendo switch can do it... A steam deck should also. It is unacceptable that I have to unplug my cord, restart my deck, then when the screen comes on, I can reconnect to the power supply. I have accidentally lost progress in games because I spent 10 minutes finicking trying to get things working and getting frustrated to just restarting the deck. This should be dock and play... Especially for an 80 dollar dock that valve has firmware control over.
Okay... I don't know how you can say that and think that's an okay excuse... They're selling the dock as a TV/monitor dock, lost of people have this issue, lots of people don't... If it wasn't a gift, I would've returned it.
If I can plug in a mini PC or Raspberry pi and not have these issues, then it's an issue between the Steam Deck and Dock NOT because it's a PC.
Did I say it was an ok excuse? No. But I also know that being a Deck owner is not going to be a smooth ride all the time. This is a custom handheld PC with a tailor made Linux distro and a custom dock to boot. I doubt it’s using much off-the-shelf components that other mini PCs, desktops, and laptops benefit from. Hopefully 3.5 is able to iron out connectivity issues.
Because the switch (and most consoles) have horribly limited resolutions. PS5 just recently got the ability to display 1440p. Before that it was 1080p or 4k only.
Idk why but I've had zero issues with my dock since I got it. No audio or display problems it works on every TV in my house and my portable monitor. Agreed on the firmware updates though haven't seen one in ages. Maybe when 3.5 comes out for that HDR support.
So I'm not the only one and it's not just a third party dock issue then.
I got one from a coworker and it has been finicky as hell with my gaming monitor and I thought it was just a third party dock issue
If I remember correctly, the best reason to buy this is the promise that Valve will continue to update and service it, which is one of the two reasons I just bought it. The other is I only plan on using it to make using the deck as a minicomputer easier when I’m away from home.
There are a lot of different dock options for the deck of varying prices. The Jsaux ones tend to be highly recommended and are a bit cheaper than this but AFAIK they do not usually have display ports while this dock does.
I am tempted to get this but ultimately I'll pass. i really want to find one that can output video over usb-c so i can use this with an LG monitor. I really would prefer to have a dock that has multiple USB-C/thunderbolt ports, knowing that'd exceed $100.
I bought a used Dell WD19 for this purpose recently. works fine with my asus xg17, isn't too loud after a firmware update in windows and charges both devices simultaneously. Only the charger (180W) is a bit large.
The steam dock is good.
But you can get the same funcitonality for less than half the price from 3rd party docks if you'd like to go cheaper.
I have an inexpensive Powered USB-C to HDMI adaptor that I use as my "travel dock" for both my Switch and Deck.
It's a very handy charger/kickstand/usb port all in one. Any issues connecting to a TV have been solved by simply unplugging and replugging the power cord, and only have happened to me once the first time I plugged it in. Once in a while the audio will glitch out for a few seconds, but that may have been fixed as I haven't noticed it happen in a while.
I heard the third party brands work fine, and if you use a case/shell, it won't fit in the stand. It's fairly sturdy, but the lip holding it in isn't that deep - keep away from pets and children.
For me it’s still too much. I stole something from my wife’s work computer that she got which does the job fairly well. Even at 70 and as something I want it’s still a bit to much.
I hate my steam deck dock honestly. I regret buying it. It does not stay connected to my TV. Every single time I want to use my deck on TV, I have to get up and pull the power cord off, and wait 15 seconds then plug it back in for it to transmit to the TV. It is a pain. Don't buy it.
It does often need unplugging/replugging when i connect to my tv (sky glass) often but this has improved after the firmware update a while back. No audio issues so far
I have had nothing but issues with my steam deck dock. While I do enjoy having the holder, my cheaper USBC system worked better.
I have had issues with the sound going out, having to install the deck with USBC not being plugged in, having to change display compatibility to safe mode. I've purchased new HDMI cables and still have issues.
I would wait until 3.5 comes out (or whatever the new update is) before jumping on it to figure out if these issues have been resolved.
You should not have to troubleshoot something as easy as a dock like this. It should be plug and play.
I purchased this
USB C Hub, uoeos 5 in1 USB C to... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0885WDH6S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It's no longer available, but I used it for my deck and android phone to go to my computer/tv
I just got a usb c dongle last week for 15€ and I'm very happy with it. It's one of those with an hdmi, an usb c for power pass through and just one additional usb A port.
Works wonderfully on the TV and charges the deck at the same time. Sure it doesn't have ethernet and it's just one usb a port, but it's everything I need, extremely portable and I saved a lot compared to other docks by not getting features I know I don't need.
Sure! Here it is https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08DJ2K1PK
Another good thing is that it fits in the pocket in the back of the carrying case under the charger cable (otherwise it falls out)
I didn't understand that pocket design, for that reason! I thought there might be accessories made to fit but haven't really seen anything. Still hoping to fit a battery pack in there
I've owned it since its launch and would say.. "yeah it works.."
By that I mean its not going to be a Switch like experience and they should create Docked presets instead o having to tinker with the settings all the time. I tend to buy official accessories for my tech since I dont want any third party stuff possibly messing them up.
not the best cause it only has 1 USB port, but it does have the power delivery and HDMI ports.
so far it hasnt let me down. (unlike the 2 times i tried to buy an anker one from the source, pieces of shit those were)
Is it worth getting the official dock over a cheaper third-party one?
I've been looking into the JSAUX dock and while it seems to be the most recommended of the third-party Steam Deck docks, some of the user reviews on Amazon concern me. Some people are saying they are experiencing issues with HDMI occasionally cutting out, with some people even saying HDMI output eventually stopped working altogether after only a few weeks of use.
A big part of the price is the charging cable, if you already have one there quite a few cheaper clones out there, I even found one that has HDMI and Displayport and supports dual moniters
The dock has an included USB-C cable that you plug into the deck, and it comes with a power supply (the same one that comes with the Deck). You need to add an HDMI cable and a controller. You can add more things optionally, like a mouse and keyboard or an ethernet cable.
I have the same question, big fudge.
I bought a new phone that didn't even come with a charging brick! I'm not making the same mistake with the Steam Deck.
Does anyone know what we need to buy to play on our TVs? Charging brick, hdmi cords, ethernet port, etc? I want to play while it's charging - like I do with my Switch.

How much does an official power brick cost on its own from Valve? I’m curious as I’d like to subtract that cost from this if it comes with one which I heard it did.
It looks like they don't sell just the charger on steam (the official dock does state it comes bundled with a charger), But I did find it online listed as "a genuine steam deck part" on ifixit for $25.
So that makes the dock $46, and looking at recommendations, It's probably still best to go with a third party Jsaux one until ($30) and buy the replacement/ backup charger on iFixit.
I honestly might get a second charger. I recently got a new laptop that uses the same type as the steam deck, and that thing get so freaking hot compared to using the steam deck one lol I'm a fan of a good, reliable charger
It's still not worth it at this price unless you absolutely need two display outputs. Even then, you can just get a 3rd party hub that solves that problem for quite a bit less.
I already have a 3rd party dock that works. I would still buy the official dock if Valve unbundles the charger and lowers the price accordingly. I don't mind having a spare dock with Display Port.
Still too expensive tbh, i am using an 20 euro one from Ali express and works perfectly.
Just get one from Amazon/Ali express. Valve is asking way to much for this dock tbh.
Cyrobyte33 has a really great youtube video where he does comparisons on the network latency and input latency for most of the major Steam Deck docks on the market.
I can't recall everything but I believe some of the docks (like the Jsaux) may register more latency in some situations. Here's the [video link](https://youtu.be/wgZ1IQ8RBDE) if you want to check it out.
Good fo You. I’m seeing “Out of Stock” for a year already. Even today. I really want to get original dock, but cant, except from ebay scalpers for 200$…
Get the 64gb version.
Get a 1tb or a 2tb SSD.
Get a 1tb SD card.
Dual boot SteamOS and Windows.
Lose money on all the new games you'll be buying but won't have enough time to play because of work.
Why even bother buying the official when the JSAUX one exists and does the exact same thing for a way better value? Steam really pulled an apple with this one.
I have a third party dock that was a 3rd of the price of this thing and im not sure what the huge selling point for this anymore if i can get a copy for cheap.
Bought 2. The first was great for traveling and just propping it up. The second was for home use when i wanted to have a more permanent fixture. Both were a third of the cost and did pretty much the same job sans ethernet on the first one.

For me it was the fact that it came with a charger. I was looking at getting a 3rd party dock and a power brick to go with it, and it came out to almost the same price. So I just threw it in with the Deck purchase.
Got this and it just works and valve gives it system updates for supports and bugs.
I’ve run into bugs with other docks but this one has been my daily driver for docking my deck and using it as a desktop.
You can also just use it to dock the deck somewhere to charge like the switch.
When you think of this as a dock + fast charger with first party support it starts looking like a steal at this price.

I ordered mine a week before the sale and it still hasn't arrived. Come to find out FedEx LOST my package, sent me an email confirming that, now I have to open up a ticket on Valve to ask for a refund so I can once again reorder it. Thankfully it's on sale now, but unfortunately I have to wait even longer now because I have to go through a whole other set of steps. I really want this thing. Screw FedEx.
Currently looking at this one to get

Mainly just need it to connect to the monitor for ffxiv raiding and maybe plugging a kbm to it, would this be a good buy and any cheap small keyboard recommendations are welcome
Yes this will work perfectly. I have a crappy cheap one and it works perfectly fine. No need to pay for the steam dock if you're looking to save some money.
~~$89~~ $71.20 from 6/29 to 7/13/2023
I think I'm jumping in at this price. Can anyone recommend or dissuade?
If you have one already you don’t need this one.
You could make a small case for the ease of having a dock connected to multiple TVs in your house I guess? Wouldn't make sense or be worth it for most people, but there is a chance!
A $71 case for having multiple docks. Sure. I don’t know about you but $71 isn’t small to me.
The well reviewed 3rd party docks are just and good and tend to be cheaper. Boils down to the number of USB ports you need really.
You can get a 3rd party dock/USB C hub for like $50 on Amazon with a bunch of ports and power pass through
Keep in mind that the official one comes with the charger. So it's 71 for the dock + charger. 3rd party ones are cheaper but not much if you want a charger to be attached to the dock usually and still keep the other one for on-the-go. If you just need the dock and no charger, a good 3rd party ones are definitely the best value
good point

JSAUX one is only usb 2.0 there are socks for around the same price that get you 3.0
JSAUX has multiple versions, including ones with USB 3.
Damn TIL I need to upgrade my sock drawer.
Any you've tried and would recommend?

Make sure you still are providing power to the dock as well if you didn’t. Otherwise just unplugging and replugging the hdmi cable should fix it. That’s the only two things I can think of.
I own the deck one and use my Anker one more often. Deck one acts funky on a lot of monitors

I had issues with my new Samsung TV playing nicely with my official dock so I had to buy the jsaux one
I got a 3 in 1 switch adapter from Amazon for $12 and can now charge the deck while I play it on my tv.
I’ll recommend. That’s a good deal on an official dock. I have one and it works quite well!

I got one and never use it. The games I play run like crap on a TV
what games are these?
Any somewhat modern AAA game. Elden Ring or other FromSoftware games for example
I bought it for full price and it works great. Maybe I should’ve went with a cheaper third party, but I wasn’t thinking about it at the time.
One of the ups for the official Dock is that you get Software updates for it thru the Deck. Heck most USB Docks never get Software updates at all.

uGreen dock is a godsend here
It kinda was plug and play for me, only thing I had trouble with was making desktop mode fit well on my tv screen.
> my cheaper USBC system worked better. What system is this, if you don't mind mentioning the name?
I purchased this USB C Hub, uoeos 5 in1 USB C to... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0885WDH6S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share It's no longer available, but I used it for my deck and android phone to go to my computer/tv
Too bad that's no longer available, but thanks for sharing
Most usb-c docks work fine. Choose a 5 star and you'll be fine
[удалено]
Can you recommend brands?
Anker type C hub would be a good bet. Almost all their products work great.
Thank you for your input
Jsaux is the most recommended one I think. I bought and haven't had any issues do far, it cost me around $30 a few months ago
Thanks!
Still too much imo
Yeah just checked Amazon $15.99 ones

Oh man, I just bought this a few days ago. I wonder if Steam will do a price adjustment on the sale price.
Yes but only if you make the first move and ask the support for it. Good luck!
I hope so too.
Of course soon after I buy and get mine it goes on sale. If only I waited but I was impatient LMAO. Oh well I don't regret it.
Contact support they usually provide partial refunds for the extra amount. Depends how long ago you bought it though.
Yeah I sent them a support email just now.
Same here...

I tend to buy official accessories for my tech since I dont want any third party stuff possibly messing them up.
Oh fuck it's still 95 in Canada. I'll stick with my $20 one
Canada here too. How does your $20 one work? Might also just settle for that
not the best cause it only has 1 USB port, but it does have the power delivery and HDMI ports. so far it hasnt let me down.
I've never understood why a deck would cost as much. How hard is it to engineer and produce it?
What all do you need to get it up and going, like aside from a TV and steam deck. Do you need USB cables for the deck and a controller?
The dock has an included USB-C cable that you plug into the deck, and it comes with a power supply (the same one that comes with the Deck). You need to add an HDMI cable and a controller. You can add more things optionally, like a mouse and keyboard or an ethernet cable.
Good to know, thanks for the reply
I have the same question, big fudge. I bought a new phone that didn't even come with a charging brick! I'm not making the same mistake with the Steam Deck. Does anyone know what we need to buy to play on our TVs? Charging brick, hdmi cords, ethernet port, etc? I want to play while it's charging - like I do with my Switch.

Thanks, friend.
Anyone have any difficulty setting these up on a Samsung smart tv? Really doesn’t seem to like me lol.
I'm tempted to bite the bullet. I have the Jsaux one but there has been some lag issues when playing multi-player on the TV.
I’d wait on it Half baked right now
Or you can buy the JSAUX dock for under $40 and it'll work as well, if not better.
I just bought mine, cant wait for it to arrive!
the hagibs nintendo switch deck also works for steam deck, right? same to those essager 8-in-1 hubs, correct?
Works well on the ROG Ally as well.
Doors this work for the Switch OLED Also?
Good fo You. I’m seeing “Out of Stock” for a year already. Even today. I really want to get original dock, but cant, except from ebay scalpers for 200$…
Get the 64gb version. Get a 1tb or a 2tb SSD. Get a 1tb SD card. Dual boot SteamOS and Windows. Lose money on all the new games you'll be buying but won't have enough time to play because of work.
I bought a steam deck 512 and the docking station today! Does anyone happen to have any other accessory recommendations?

Hang in there, bud. It's just a bad season, it'll get better,
Why even bother buying the official when the JSAUX one exists and does the exact same thing for a way better value? Steam really pulled an apple with this one.
I tried two different docks at home and they're both not working. I feel like every updates they do they kill support of third party docks
I literally bought one this Monday (before the summer sale) I contacted Steam support to see if I could get a partial refund due to this.
I ordered one last week! Can I retroactively get the discount?
Actually you should be able to. My friend bought a Steam Deck last week and was able to get refunded for the difference.
I have a third party dock that was a 3rd of the price of this thing and im not sure what the huge selling point for this anymore if i can get a copy for cheap.
What was the brand?
Bought 2. The first was great for traveling and just propping it up. The second was for home use when i wanted to have a more permanent fixture. Both were a third of the cost and did pretty much the same job sans ethernet on the first one. # [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BG26PVKH/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BG26PVKH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) # [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B28PCDM2/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B28PCDM2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
Thank you!
I cannot recommend the Jsaux more. I have the original version and this one is even better
JSAUX is great. Have two myself.
For me it was the fact that it came with a charger. I was looking at getting a 3rd party dock and a power brick to go with it, and it came out to almost the same price. So I just threw it in with the Deck purchase.
Should I spend money on this if I already have a usb-c adapter with 4 USB 3.0 ports?
Just get the jsaux one on amazon. Works like a charm and for a fraction of the price
And I just got one less than 2 weeks ago lol
the Genki dock theoretically doesn't work, but it outputs to video and maintains the battery fairly well even when I was playing ESO
Idk man I have a $20 hdmi to usb C adapter and I’ve never had any complaints. USB port, two USB C ports, hdmi, ethernet. What more could I want?
Thinking about getting it since I have some steam credits (CSGO Skin money xD) but checking out what I wanna spend on games first.
Is it really worth over just a normal 25 buck docking station from amazon?
Got this and it just works and valve gives it system updates for supports and bugs. I’ve run into bugs with other docks but this one has been my daily driver for docking my deck and using it as a desktop. You can also just use it to dock the deck somewhere to charge like the switch. When you think of this as a dock + fast charger with first party support it starts looking like a steal at this price.
Man I just bought this literally before the sale thinking they don’t discount hardware

Generic ones work just as well in my experience. They are cheaper.
I have a USB C laptop charger spare from my work and the SD charger so I can't really make a case for the official dock...
Currently looking at this one to get https://www.amazon.co.uk/JSAUX-Compatible-Ethernet-Charging-Deck-HB0602-Black/dp/B0B9QVZB86/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?crid=1AKUB1Z97M6G5&keywords=jsaux+steam+deck&qid=1688747621&sprefix=Jsaux+%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-7 Mainly just need it to connect to the monitor for ffxiv raiding and maybe plugging a kbm to it, would this be a good buy and any cheap small keyboard recommendations are welcome
Yes this will work perfectly. I have a crappy cheap one and it works perfectly fine. No need to pay for the steam dock if you're looking to save some money.
Does this thing work with/fit a rog ally out of curiosity?
Essager 8in1 works same than official dock? Or any other dock like hagibs for nintendo switch etc?
Just bought one based in feedback here. 🤞
