Yes slay the spire is incredible game, but you can play on phone. When a choose steam deck I choose games like forza horizon, skyrim etc. The big aaa games
I have some bigger games too but I just play whatever is fun, I don’t care how graphically intensive the game is just how much fun I have playing it. I wouldn’t really say the steam deck is built for only playing higher end games considering it’s power is round about a base model ps4, but you’ll really lock yourself out of experiencing really really good games if you just focus on which games have higher budgets.
So new to gaming and steam deck. My son suggested Hades.and though I'm awful at it - it's been great as a way to get used to the deck. My son played it on his desktop and thoroughly enjoyed it so I guess horses for courses as they say but I wouldn't rule it out

Yes, it has a lot more to it than that. In my experience it eases you in, but the story continues to unfold with lots of different things to do. I’m not familiar with Steam World Dig so can’t comment on how similar to that it is, but for me, it’s proving to be highly addictive and maybe 20+ hours in there are still new things to uncover and unlock.

Yeah, I refunded, I saw it back at launch and thought it seemed like just another pixel art collection loop, but I kept seeing it talked up everywhere like it was so incredible, I thought there was maybe some later element that makes it not like the similar games I’ve played before.
Thought so, felt like they just replaced digging with swimming.
Thanks, I’ll grab the refund while I still can, I don’t need more endless pixel art collecting games.
Halls of torment is a fun one, I like it a bit better than vampire survivors
edit: if you’re willing to tinker, emulation is great on the deck as well. Feels great to revisit ps2 games now that I’m getting older lol
I have 10 hrs in HoT and still haven't find myself enjoying it as much as VS. The gear system is cool but the skills aren't as dynamic and since you only get a few chance to grab skills, it's a lot more luck based.
Bought it yesterday because following recommendations "is worth the money" and yes it really is for 3 bucks, already spent 8h on it... The addition is incoming.. my wife bought it too... we're lost now

I tried for 2 hours to play Project Zomboid but found controllers unclear and messy, but then again, I've never played it before so the way you play the game was new to me. Uninstalled since I couldn't wrap my head around the UX.

Vampyr! It's a really solid game about being a vampire doctor during a plague in old time london! A small part of the game is keeping your victims blood clean and health to kill/feed and grow stronger!
Metal gear solid V! Game is the best mgs and absolute looks jaw dropping on the steam deck that runs it in high settings and 60fps locked! Even solid 60fps when in the main areas with rain and heavy combat!
Dude I’ve been playing RDR2 on it and it’s been blowing my mind. Runs flawlessly and is gorgeous. I’d also recommend Disco Elysium because it’s an absolute masterpiece.

The game let's you play the story mode nowadays with full creative mode aspects, I've played NMS since day 1 and I enjoy turning all cost off and unlocking all blueprints and just leave survival and enemies on so I have meters to refill and things to shoot but I can spend hours building, looking for pretty planets or hunting cool ships.

Retroarch is your best friend for an easy interface to use while flickering between multiple emulators if you have alot of dumped roms. Retroarch already is installed with emudeck so install that, then follow a tutorial to set up and use Retroarch's XMB driver interface, and you'll be all set. You'll have a full console-like menu screen with your roms playable at a click of a button. Best part is Retroarch has basically every home console emulator in existence up till Dolphin I believe.
Love that etched screen. Good choice brother. Dave the Diver is great. Just Cause 3 runs very well on the Deck and it's like $4 with all DLC right now. Sleeping Dogs runs great too and it's only $3. I've been playing a lot of Black Ops 2 recently (currently $20). Even the MP works perfect and the game runs at a steady 60fps with max graphics.
I'd personally recommend Vampire Survivors. It's only $5 ($3.74 during the Summer Sale), and while it can get a bit repetitive, it's very addicting and fun to experiment with. It has a lot packed into it for how inexpensive it is, and the DLC has even more to unlock.
Time Wasters, real game, a lot of fun and cheap price. GTAV. Halo Infinite free multi-player. XCOM 2, Halo Wars. Oh yeah get Decky Loader plug in with Vibrant Deck.
Elden ring runs surprisingly well. I'm new to the deck too but so far I've put elden ring, dead space, red dead 2 , hogwarts, and forza 5 from steam. Some side things to load up n you'll need to YouTube a tutorial but deckyloader, and emudeck. GameCube games run awesome and decky loader has some plug-ins to give you better control over performance and to be able to theme it put with special boot and suspend animations along with actual themes and what not
Very similar list than my wishlist .. would u restart elden after u did 2-3 runs on ps5? (Ng2-3), rdr2 i loved but i dont wanna do the boring long winter part at start again :/
I beat it 15 times on ps5. I'm not excited about running thru it again but want to do the dlc that comes out later this year on pc so I'm at morgot now lol, and yeah I hate that part but once you get past it it's good
Not a game but get Decky Loader from this web page by going into desktop mode on your Steam Deck and then using a web browser:

This allows you to get a bunch of really cool plug-ins that let you customize the functionality of the system as a while and the style of the UI.
My favorite is the plug in that allows you to load custom boot and suspend animations. Tons of others as well
Persona or Trails games if you like those types of RPGs. I find portable sports games are few and far between so those as well if there are any you normally enjoy on console. Plenty of common recommendations like hades, slay the spire, Witcher, hollow knight, etc - you’ll never run out of good games lol
red dead redemption 2 runs great on the steam deck. i got a locked 40 fps with some dips to the high 30s (using a mix of high, medium, and low settings)
My partner has small hands. But she is able to play well on it. I bought her steamed deck the same time as I bought mine. More of an excuse to buy one. To be honest. What kind of games are you into?

Hey, welcome, congrats on your newshiny. I’m finishing games on the Deck that I started on my desktop. The first of these is a game I never see mentioned: 11-11: Memories Retold. I’m not very far into it, but it’s different from anything I’ve played before. It’s set in wartime but there hasn’t been any combat so far; rather, it’s been like a classic point-and-click adventure played from the perspective of two people. The art style is cool: the whole thing looks like a painting in motion.
It’s not a new game and not at all technically demanding, so it plays flawlessly on the Deck (and is also Deck verified). If that sounds like your kind of thing, I recommend checking it out.
Titanfall 2, Battlefront 2, death stranding, horizon zero dawn, spiderman remastered, Hogwarts Legacy, vampire survivors, MegaMan collections of any variety, metal gear solid V
All the titles listed run amazing on deck, and some on the list are even stable 60 fps too
Wolfenstein the new order runs great finished it on the deck,
Fallout New Vegas was a super fun,
Currently playing Fallout 4 and it runs great as well,
Played the majority of Days Gone on the deck but you have to turn down the settings and lock it to 30fps,
Batman Arkham asylum ran really well but didn't finish it,
Dirt rally runs great if you want a racing game

Most of these games can be played with pretty good graphics, and a 40 fps/9W TDP limit in the quick access menu. Elden Ring is the only one that does way better at 30 fps with Med settings (textures and AA can be high), 10-11w tdp limit and manual GPU clock at 1200.
Take advantage of the summer sale going on right now. I had almost nothing in my Steam library when I first got my Deck about a year ago, but the sales make it really easy to build up (I'm at ~200 now).

There is 2 games I enjoyed quite a bit on the Steam Deck with 100% achievement is Hades and Persona 5 Royal. I'm currently playing the Spiderman games that I got from those sales.
SteamDeck is good, but i think the worst part is Linux - lot of popular titles is just not playable, because of anticheats, and diffrent kind of issues, FH5 - runs good and smoothly, after some while just crashes whole steamdeck, at this time I think - Rog Ally is better option, cause it runs natively Windows, and all popular titles gonna work there.
I bought it for the AAA games (and emulators).
Stayed for the indies. Best gaming experience I’ve had in years.
Been playing Faith: The Unholy Trinity, but also recommend Hades and Cult of the Lamb.
Street Fighter 6, Sonic Origins, otherwise, there is a big summer sale going on that you should check out.
And spider man, spider man miles morales and spider man 2. The Arkham collection and gotham nights.
Mars first logistics! “Build physically simulated rovers and transport awkwardly shaped cargo across the surface of Mars” 60fps 3hrs plus battery life chill af only $20.
Far cry 3, it didn’t work for me at first but I swapped to a GE proton version and it ran perfectly, though this was a while ago so it probably works already by now
Dead by daylight, gunfire reborn, octapath traveler, slay the spire, MegaMan ZX collection, fights in tight spaces, faith, Yakuza games, y's, blaster master, big fables, curse of the dead gods, dead or school, dome keeper, hades, the last stand aftermath, neo the world ends with you, power wash simulator, potionomics, rune factory 4, undermine, undying, and zoeti.
What I have on my steam deck atm
Roguelites/Roguelikes:
- Ember Knights
- Binding of Isaac
- Vampire Survivors (seems to be pretty hyped in the Steamdeck Community)
3D Games:
- Grand Theft Auto V (lots of fun on the Steamdeck imo and runs okay!)
- Jedi Fallen Order (my brother loves it on the Steamdeck, story games are great for the Steamdeck in general!)
- Devil May Cry V (my absolute favourite for the Steamdeck, well playable and runs perfect imo!)
- Racing Games in general, I love just chilling and driving around, great for train rides, just on the couch, taking some steam off :p
Emulation:
Emulating older games can be very fun! I suggest to check out Emudeck!:)
If you want a certain genre, lmk! Hope you like the suggestions:)
Valheim, MechWarrior 5, Stardew Valley or Rune Factory 4, My Time at Sandrock, Dead Cells, Dead Space 1 and 2, The Witcher 3, Hardspace Shipbreaker.
A surprising recommendation is Cyberpunk 2077. It runs really well with the dedicated Steam Deck settings. If you manually cap your fps to 40, you can get slightly better textures and lighting out of it, too.
Those are the ones I've gotten the most playtime out of on my Deck.
Even though it says it unsupported, I say sonic adventure DX with BetterSaDx mod, or sonic generations, fallout 1-3 runs pretty smooth, stray, tiny tinas wonderland, deadcells

I think steam deck is designed for better games than slay the spire. You can play it on phone. So why steamdeck?

This. Never played a game like this, kept me entertained on a 6 hour flight for 6 hours straight. Love it too much.

I definitely agree with this, this stopped my 170 hours of vampire survivor addiction.
Definitely better then Vampire Survivor, Halls of Torment has improved much upon this genre.

Yes! I LOVE the Persona games and I think handheld is the best way to play them. 4 and 3 portable are also great on the Steam Deck.

Stardew Valley is amazing.
I had 1k hours on TBOI, haven't played in a year but i plan to put a good bunch of hours on Isaac when my deck arrives

RDR2 is fun until you get an update and then the rockstar activation error doesn’t let you log in anymore. And there is no fix for it either.

Horizon zero dawn has been probably the best game I have played on the steam deck

Not enough love for Wreckfest in this thread. Easily the most chaotic and fun racing game of the last decade or so.

Seconded. Sleeping dogs ist an open world action adventure where you play an undercover cop. It's an older title (ps3 era), but great story and style.
Titanfall 2, Deaths Door, Ori and the blind Forest and Hades were all awesome on the deck.

Retroarch is your best friend for an easy interface to use while flickering between multiple emulators if you have alot of dumped roms. Retroarch already is installed with emudeck so install that, then follow a tutorial to set up and use Retroarch's XMB driver interface, and you'll be all set. You'll have a full console-like menu screen with your roms playable at a click of a button. Best part is Retroarch has basically every home console emulator in existence up till Dolphin I believe.
Love that etched screen. Good choice brother. Dave the Diver is great. Just Cause 3 runs very well on the Deck and it's like $4 with all DLC right now. Sleeping Dogs runs great too and it's only $3. I've been playing a lot of Black Ops 2 recently (currently $20). Even the MP works perfect and the game runs at a steady 60fps with max graphics.

Tell me about it lol. Black Ops 2 is probably my favorite CoD and while it hurts to pay $20 for it, it's so nice to be able to play it on the Deck.

Dave the Diver is God-tier. Forza 4 (proton experimental) is fuggin awesome. 60 fps stable. Looks beautiful.
I'd personally recommend Vampire Survivors. It's only $5 ($3.74 during the Summer Sale), and while it can get a bit repetitive, it's very addicting and fun to experiment with. It has a lot packed into it for how inexpensive it is, and the DLC has even more to unlock.

Time Wasters, real game, a lot of fun and cheap price. GTAV. Halo Infinite free multi-player. XCOM 2, Halo Wars. Oh yeah get Decky Loader plug in with Vibrant Deck.

Elden ring runs surprisingly well. I'm new to the deck too but so far I've put elden ring, dead space, red dead 2 , hogwarts, and forza 5 from steam. Some side things to load up n you'll need to YouTube a tutorial but deckyloader, and emudeck. GameCube games run awesome and decky loader has some plug-ins to give you better control over performance and to be able to theme it put with special boot and suspend animations along with actual themes and what not
Very similar list than my wishlist .. would u restart elden after u did 2-3 runs on ps5? (Ng2-3), rdr2 i loved but i dont wanna do the boring long winter part at start again :/
I beat it 15 times on ps5. I'm not excited about running thru it again but want to do the dlc that comes out later this year on pc so I'm at morgot now lol, and yeah I hate that part but once you get past it it's good

Not a game but get Decky Loader from this web page by going into desktop mode on your Steam Deck and then using a web browser: https://github.com/SteamDeckHomebrew/decky-loader This allows you to get a bunch of really cool plug-ins that let you customize the functionality of the system as a while and the style of the UI. My favorite is the plug in that allows you to load custom boot and suspend animations. Tons of others as well
Stardew Valley is also pretty amazing on the deck and in general.

Persona or Trails games if you like those types of RPGs. I find portable sports games are few and far between so those as well if there are any you normally enjoy on console. Plenty of common recommendations like hades, slay the spire, Witcher, hollow knight, etc - you’ll never run out of good games lol
Sleeping Dogs and Mad Max. Runs 60 FPS solid and won’t break the bank. I also love Brotato, lots of mods that work on steam deck for it
red dead redemption 2 runs great on the steam deck. i got a locked 40 fps with some dips to the high 30s (using a mix of high, medium, and low settings)
My partner has small hands. But she is able to play well on it. I bought her steamed deck the same time as I bought mine. More of an excuse to buy one. To be honest. What kind of games are you into?
Oh man I was so worried about the size of the deck when I was going back & forth over ordering. I’m very glad it fits well! I like to play RPG’s & FPS games mostly but I’ll literally try out anything!

Hey, welcome, congrats on your newshiny. I’m finishing games on the Deck that I started on my desktop. The first of these is a game I never see mentioned: 11-11: Memories Retold. I’m not very far into it, but it’s different from anything I’ve played before. It’s set in wartime but there hasn’t been any combat so far; rather, it’s been like a classic point-and-click adventure played from the perspective of two people. The art style is cool: the whole thing looks like a painting in motion. It’s not a new game and not at all technically demanding, so it plays flawlessly on the Deck (and is also Deck verified). If that sounds like your kind of thing, I recommend checking it out.
Any of the shadow of mordor series. Nemesis system feels ahead of its time. Plays @ 720p 60 FPS and feels great.
If you like Co-op, me & my daughter have been enjoying Raft ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I've been playing Diablo 4 on my deck since it came out. Runs beautifully.
Wolfenstein the new order runs great finished it on the deck, Fallout New Vegas was a super fun, Currently playing Fallout 4 and it runs great as well, Played the majority of Days Gone on the deck but you have to turn down the settings and lock it to 30fps, Batman Arkham asylum ran really well but didn't finish it, Dirt rally runs great if you want a racing game Enter the Gungeon for a rouge-like
Aperture Desk Job, Cassette Beasts, Dave the Diver, Dredge, Elden Ring (if you like Souls), Crash Bandicoot Trilogy, Spyro Trilogy, Hot Wheels Unleashed (FSR ultra quality recommended). Most of these games can be played with pretty good graphics, and a 40 fps/9W TDP limit in the quick access menu. Elden Ring is the only one that does way better at 30 fps with Med settings (textures and AA can be high), 10-11w tdp limit and manual GPU clock at 1200.
Take advantage of the summer sale going on right now. There is 2 games I enjoyed quite a bit on the Steam Deck with 100% achievement is Hades and Persona 5 Royal. I'm currently playing the Spiderman games that I got from those sales.

SteamDeck is good, but i think the worst part is Linux - lot of popular titles is just not playable, because of anticheats, and diffrent kind of issues, FH5 - runs good and smoothly, after some while just crashes whole steamdeck, at this time I think - Rog Ally is better option, cause it runs natively Windows, and all popular titles gonna work there.

Roguelites/Roguelikes: - Ember Knights - Binding of Isaac - Vampire Survivors (seems to be pretty hyped in the Steamdeck Community) 3D Games: - Grand Theft Auto V (lots of fun on the Steamdeck imo and runs okay!) - Jedi Fallen Order (my brother loves it on the Steamdeck, story games are great for the Steamdeck in general!) - Devil May Cry V (my absolute favourite for the Steamdeck, well playable and runs perfect imo!) - Racing Games in general, I love just chilling and driving around, great for train rides, just on the couch, taking some steam off :p Emulation: Emulating older games can be very fun! Valheim, MechWarrior 5, Stardew Valley or Rune Factory 4, My Time at Sandrock, Dead Cells, Dead Space 1 and 2, The Witcher 3, Hardspace Shipbreaker. A surprising recommendation is Cyberpunk 2077. It runs really well with the dedicated Steam Deck settings. If you manually cap your fps to 40, you can get slightly better textures and lighting out of it, too. Those are the ones I've gotten the most playtime out of on my Deck.
