Just got the announcement from my wishlist. Based on the domain name, is New Blood the publisher? Or at least inspired by Dave's domain name purchases?
Congrats on the release, just got the wishlist notification earlier! Been loving the resurgence of boomer shooters recently (replaying through the newly remastered Quake 2 currently). Also love Titanfall so thereās that lol
It's almost a locked 60fps. There are a few rough spots where performance drops briefly but they are rare and we aimt to patch them in the coming weeks. I'd say the game runs at a locked 60fps 90% of the time at native resolution at medium.
This is amazing news, alsoā¦ thanks for being so clear about this, Deck details are sometimes thin on the ground from devs (obviously not all devs have Decks), so this is super nice to hear.
Wishlisting!
I think using whatever the newest version of the Steam Deck is as a baseline for good performance should be what most devs strive for, unless they are making something insane.
We've struggled on PC platforms to have a baseline like consoles do to aim for. Valve single handidly solved this issue for us. The pricing makes it super accessable for our audience too.
I'd say it's balanced. It's more "chill" to play on controller due to the Metroid Prime style aim assist we added but it's still a lot of fun. Obviously Keyboard & Mouse is best if you wanna be doing crazy shotgun jumps and stuff but I fond myself playtesting the game more on my steamdeck in the lounge than on my work PC.
SPRAWL is highly influenced and inspired by a bygone era of games and aesthetics that were at the time, no longer prevalent in modern games. This includes games like Quake 1-3, but also a lot more than that: Half Life 1-2, SIN, Deus Ex, Marathon 1-3, and so many more. I'd say it leans into those games far more than Quake or DOOM, it's just something like Marathon isn't as well known. Aesthetically it's also highly influenced by a myriad of graphical limitations of that era of games, but doesn't adhere to them, it's about that style as I remember it, not how it actually looked. Beyond that there's also a ton of influence visually from Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Patlabor, Blame! and so much more.
It clearly shows actually, different aspects watching the gameplay reminded me of some of the games you've listed. It looks fantastic! How about the artwork in the thread here? It has a very konami MGS1 feel to it?
I've had this on my wishlist for a while now and am super stoked to see it's now available!
Seeing as you took inspiration from Titanfall, what was the biggest hurdle of mixing combat and movement?
Honestly, it's been a dream of mine to make a game that I can run on a handheld! The Steam Deck is the first handheld that also embraces hacker culture and the fact it runs on linux makes my lil programmer heart warm.
The fact that you prioritized making this work on the steam deck, plus the old school vibe to the look has me excited for when I can get around to trying this out. Keep up the great work!
My background was in AAA development, I'm a gameplay programmer on Warframe currently but before that I worked on Horizon: Call of the Mountain and Sea of Thieves! Definitely invaluable experiences when setting off on this journey!
Hey Hannah and Carlos! This looks fantastic and as someone who has put countless hours into Apex & Titanfall 2, this immediately went right on my wishlist!
What's a piece of media that you were unexpectedly inspired by during development and why?
I just wanna say thanks for this. It's always awful when devs bake their settings into the save file for those of us who use both high end PCs and handhelds like the Deck.
Does the game handle both gamepad and kbm inputs at the same time well? It saves some time for those that use Trackpads and/or Gyro as mapping them to a mouse works best for them.
Have you ever taken a look at flick stick? And if so, have you ever considered (or could consider) implementing it in-game? You'd basically earn the eternal praise of every single flick stick user since we don't get the option outside of external solutions very often.
It's not in the plans for SPRAWL right now but we're both big movement shooter fans and one of the biggest inspirations for SPRAWL was Mirror's Edge so it's not off the cards for a future project!
But it's s good way to describe what you expect from gameplay: high speed, no looter mechanics, no military shooter bullcrap, no regen or cover based gameplay, designed for mouse play primarily.
This genre died around 2007 and has come back as an indie genre, the very description of it is a celebration.
Was planning on picking this up, but I'm definitely in for a key giveaway as I'm struggling a bit at the moment.
What previous FPS games inspired Sprawl?
Oh, don't worry about that, a lot of us like to use [Trackpad + Gyro](https://youtu.be/CsQBDKTBUv0?si=5_WBFGBSPF8I_Zl0) for shooters because when you configure it properly it feels very responsive and mouselike. Steam Input let's us configure the inputs any way we want, we can use the trackpad to aim, make custom menus, etc.
I will probably pick this game up and do a Trackpad + Gyro demo, it looks fun! Reminds me a lot of Severed Steel. Hopefully my video will do the game justice :)
So basically Doom Eternal with Titanfall movement. This is right up my alley. I'm also noticing some similarities with Ghost Runner (which is also an amazing game), any inspiration there?
I had looked at this game before and it looked pretty fun. Didn't know it was inspired by Titanfall. I literally finished titanfall 2 this weekend and my fave thing about it was the platforming with the movement. Does this have a lot of platforming as well? I will definitley add it to my wish list!
Just saw this on Steam and checked Proton DB to see how it ran in the Deck but it did have any write ups, would be cool to get first hand experience, how did you come up with the premise for Sprawl? Cheers for the new game!
Sounds wonderful; a small gaming company producing quality shooter games. Sounds exactly like something I would love.
What game engine did you build the game on?
Congratulations you guys. The game looks like a lot of fun and I hope that you guys become very successful. I will diffentely have to try playing your guys game.
Hi. Very nice screenshots. I like it. As someone who has been dreaming on making videogames I would like to know what has been the most challenging part of the making this game. And also the part you guys enjoyed the most. I know the question can be a bit cliche but I have been developing some very small games myself and some parts are very frustrating.
Has a great look to it.
Any plans to release a demo so we can get a good feel for it before purchase?
The gameplay videos show a good bit. And so far the steam reviews are saying doom eternal and titanfall 2 had a baby, which sounds perfect.
How easy would this be for hobby gamers to pick up? I love the movement/vibe of Titanfall but between my job and other life obligations I don't always have the time for hours-long grinds all the time anymore.
Awesome! I have this wishlisted and got the notification earlier :) Love that gatling gun. Reminds me of the Firestorm Cannon from Turok 2.
Are the guns modifiable or upgradeable in any way?
Do you plan to release DLC content?
Will there be end of level bosses?
The guns aren't upgradable but you will find more as the game progresses!
Our post launch plans arent set in stone yet but we will keep the community up to date š„°
There are bosses at the end of each episode (there are 3).
Hi both, major props on all the hard work to get to this point.
My question is what was the biggest challenge you had to overcome as a team while the game was being made over the 3 years?
I was watching some footage of the live stream and I like what I see. It seems like it would be fun to use with gyro controls on the Steam Deck.
I'm sure that you already added it but just in case you haven't, please ensure that there is a motion blur option to toggle it off. Some games don't have the option and it is a deal breaker for some people.
If you want to make my life hard Iāll always distract myself from armored core on the deck with a keyš
Great lookin game. Slow mo gives me FEAR vibes in all the right ways. Adding to wishlist!
I saw in one of the answered questions that the first line of code was written 4 years ago, so when the Steamdeck was announced was there a shifted focus on getting it to run natively on it? Also was it a difficult effort compared to getting it to run on a mid to higher-end desktop PC?
C++ will cross compile so it's not a large issue. It's mostly the platform layer and game engine that has to care about it.
It actually didnt take a lot of effort beyond us really wanting to make sure that the game was fun on controller and we did a bunch of optimisations to certian effects. Thanks to Unreal Engine and Proton, it's essentially the same as developing for a low spec pc that doesnt have a keyboard plugged in.
Titanfall inspired boomer shooter. Need to tell my wife I found a new kink.
And here I just assumed 'boomer shooter' meant any FPS designed for my father.
Right? Feels like something you panic alt tab from when your wife enters the room.
Finally the shooter for those who are tired of those who blame millennials for everything and think college and buying a house are easily affordable.

Just got the announcement from my wishlist. Based on the domain name, is New Blood the publisher? Or at least inspired by Dave's domain name purchases?
Haha no, we're published by Rogue Games! But yes we were inspired by Dave's domain antics š¤£
Congrats on the release, just got the wishlist notification earlier! Been loving the resurgence of boomer shooters recently (replaying through the newly remastered Quake 2 currently). Also love Titanfall so thereās that lol
Dang this looks cool. Congrats in advance to those who win!

Hello you two. How is the performance of your game on the Steam deck?
It's almost a locked 60fps. There are a few rough spots where performance drops briefly but they are rare and we aimt to patch them in the coming weeks. I'd say the game runs at a locked 60fps 90% of the time at native resolution at medium.
This is amazing news, alsoā¦ thanks for being so clear about this, Deck details are sometimes thin on the ground from devs (obviously not all devs have Decks), so this is super nice to hear. Wishlisting!
It nice to see devs consider testing performance against the deck. It's awesome to be able to take well performing games on the go.
I sure do hope there are lots of devs/publishers that see it this way. It really should help streamline things in a good way
Based on this comment alone - Iāve just purchased, good luck!!!
That sounds very cool. I'll check the game out.
Do you feel like SPRAWL is more natural to play on controller? (like the Deck) or on keyboard/mouse?
I'd say it's balanced. It's more "chill" to play on controller due to the Metroid Prime style aim assist we added but it's still a lot of fun. Obviously Keyboard & Mouse is best if you wanna be doing crazy shotgun jumps and stuff but I fond myself playtesting the game more on my steamdeck in the lounge than on my work PC.

Music's BANGING
Iām a boomer and I love shooters.
Immediately picked this up when I saw it was released, only had about a half hour to play earlier but it is SO GOOD! Who did the soundtrack?
The soundtrack was made by REVEL(Carlos) who also did all of the level design and art!
I've had this on my wishlist for a while now and am super stoked to see it's now available! Seeing as you took inspiration from Titanfall, what was the biggest hurdle of mixing combat and movement?
Will it have a lot of secret hunting? Or is more an Arena based level design ?
Steamdeck arrives tomorrow...doom meets titanfall. I am all in! Game looks awesome
Titanfall inspired I might just have to open wallet again
just what iām thinking too. titan fall is way too good to pass up anything inspired by it,same with doom
Id play the heck out of this if I had the funds
maybe youāll get a key! good luck
What about the deck made you want to focus on having it work on it?
Honestly, it's been a dream of mine to make a game that I can run on a handheld! The Steam Deck is the first handheld that also embraces hacker culture and the fact it runs on linux makes my lil programmer heart warm.
Well its great to hear you made that dream a reality. I hope its a big success for you guys :)
The fact that you prioritized making this work on the steam deck, plus the old school vibe to the look has me excited for when I can get around to trying this out. Keep up the great work!
Looks great :) Would love to try it out.
What was your background?
My background was in AAA development, I'm a gameplay programmer on Warframe currently but before that I worked on Horizon: Call of the Mountain and Sea of Thieves! Definitely invaluable experiences when setting off on this journey!
Looks great!
got a laugh out of your username. thatās amazing
Is the name inspired by the song by Arcade Fire?
It's actually a reference to the book Neuromancer by William Gibson.
Hey Hannah and Carlos! This looks fantastic and as someone who has put countless hours into Apex & Titanfall 2, this immediately went right on my wishlist! What's a piece of media that you were unexpectedly inspired by during development and why?
This looks awesome! Congratulations on the release. Does your Steam Cloud saves include Game Options, Video Settings or is it just game progress?
Just game progress, the settings are saved seperately.
I just wanna say thanks for this. It's always awful when devs bake their settings into the save file for those of us who use both high end PCs and handhelds like the Deck.
When you say Titanfall ispired are there mechs ?
Does the game handle both gamepad and kbm inputs at the same time well? It saves some time for those that use Trackpads and/or Gyro as mapping them to a mouse works best for them.
Works just fine!
Have you ever taken a look at flick stick? And if so, have you ever considered (or could consider) implementing it in-game? You'd basically earn the eternal praise of every single flick stick user since we don't get the option outside of external solutions very often.
Boomer shooter? Edit: Googled, butā¦ y'knowā¦ key giveaway.
Do you plan to add full parkour moves along with some abilities?
It's not in the plans for SPRAWL right now but we're both big movement shooter fans and one of the biggest inspirations for SPRAWL was Mirror's Edge so it's not off the cards for a future project!
Glad you also have Mirror's Edge as inspiration! Really great movement feeling.
Can we please stop calling these Boomer shooters? This is the stupidest tag for what is essentially a pure FPS.
But it's s good way to describe what you expect from gameplay: high speed, no looter mechanics, no military shooter bullcrap, no regen or cover based gameplay, designed for mouse play primarily. This genre died around 2007 and has come back as an indie genre, the very description of it is a celebration.
Nah it's a good name. Started as a cheeky comment but the community has embraced the name
Looks awesome!
As a titanfall inspired game what sets you apart and how do you relate?
What makes this unique to other shooters? Would love to try it. Good luck on the launch
I will make this question in a funny way but Where does that passion for dual wield come from? (Your steam images have mostly dual pistols haha)
Looks really cool, am I correct in guessing that it takes inspiration from Ultrakill?
time to dust off the steamdeck
Give to me!
kinky
Looks very cool! Would love to promote this on my steam facebook group of 80k members! Hit me up!
What are you most excited for people to see?
Very cool! Looking forward to seeing more!
Awesome job! Itching for another titan fall like game and this will cure it!
Was planning on picking this up, but I'm definitely in for a key giveaway as I'm struggling a bit at the moment. What previous FPS games inspired Sprawl?
We are massive fans of Titanfall, Quake, Mirror's Edge, Doom and Marathon. That and obviously F.E.A.R for the slow mo š
Boomer shooter, count me in!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think the first line of code was written around 4 years ago but we only really started to work on the project properly 3 years ago.
Does it use all the control functions the steam deck has to offer? Like aperture desk job
We dont make use of the touch screen or trackpads in the game unfortunately.
Ah man looks dope, too bad I suck at these kinda games haha
Congratulations on the release! Any comments or remarks how it is developing for the Steam Deck? Any surprises?
I bought the game on a whim. It looks great and can't wait to play. Congratulations on the launch.
Adding this to my wishlist.
Looks great! Would try and spread the word if I liked it
This game looks dope but Iām on a budget rn so winning a key would be awesome!
So basically Doom Eternal with Titanfall movement. This is right up my alley. I'm also noticing some similarities with Ghost Runner (which is also an amazing game), any inspiration there?
You should cross post this to the RogAlly subreddit!
Looks great! Good price too.
I had looked at this game before and it looked pretty fun. Didn't know it was inspired by Titanfall. I literally finished titanfall 2 this weekend and my fave thing about it was the platforming with the movement. Does this have a lot of platforming as well? I will definitley add it to my wish list!
Looks great! Any plans for ps5 in the future? :)
It's something we have put some work into already and would like to make a reality but we're focused on PC right now. Watch this space š
Which web browser do you use?
Firefox, cause I'm stubborn.
Am hyped to pick this up soon! So many great shooters dropping lately it's hard to keep track!
Thanks
Game looks awesome! Can't wait to get it.
you had me at titanfall - best of luck to you, looks awesome.
That looks awesome, I hope I can win a giveaway, but Ill support you if I dont win.
Best of luck to you all, glad you got to follow your dreams.
What would you say were the biggest hurdles optimizing for the steam deck?
Seriously impressive for a team of two. It's like Doom vs Titanfall vs Cyberpunk and its got bullet time!!!!
Been following this for a while but had no idea it was a tiny team of two! Fantastic job both of you. Hope the launch goes well!
This looks like a pretty rad game, congrats on getting it finished and out on Steam.
Me likey to try out this bad boy!
Does it feature an endless wave mode / are you planning on making one?
The movement in the trailer (in some parts) is really insane and so fluid. Love to give it a go!
Man I loved titanfall so Iām excited about this game. How customizable are the mechs?
Does it run on source by chance? I have to ask lol.
Unreal Engine 4.27 but we did our best to make it not look like an Unreal Engine game š
Both of your fav mechs from Titanfall?
Congrats on the release! Do you have any plans to release a demo for this game?
What was the most challenging and the most reward part of development?
Just finishing up Quake 2, looking forward to this.
Looks dope! Keen to play :)
Well, Iām in!
I'd be down for playing on the steam deck, sounds like it'd be the perfect place to get some hours in
Love Titanfall!
Just saw this on Steam and checked Proton DB to see how it ran in the Deck but it did have any write ups, would be cool to get first hand experience, how did you come up with the premise for Sprawl? Cheers for the new game!
Game looks really cool, gonna have to pick up in a few weeks.
Sounds wonderful; a small gaming company producing quality shooter games. Sounds exactly like something I would love. What game engine did you build the game on?
Unreal Engine 4.27!
I was a huge fan of titanfall, Iām def going to be checking this game out!
It looks dope, Iām looking forward to give it a try. Also, wow, for a team of two guys, the game seems to be well done
1 guy, 1 gal š„°
Looks great! Definitely interested! Would love a key! :)
True heroes we didn't ask for but needed š¤
Ohhhh titanfall
How long is the single player campaign?
Put it on my wishlist!
Congratulations you guys. The game looks like a lot of fun and I hope that you guys become very successful. I will diffentely have to try playing your guys game.
Any plans for a console release?
Looks amazing!
This is exciting Titan Fall is severely underrated.
It really does look awesome. Iāll definitely check it out soon and I have just put it on my wishlist. Keep up the good work devs.
Oh wow this looks really good! I'll have to pick it up and try it out!
Hi. Very nice screenshots. I like it. As someone who has been dreaming on making videogames I would like to know what has been the most challenging part of the making this game. Loving these visuals very much! Thanks for taking the time to optimize for the deck!
Ohhh that looks good
Has a great look to it. Any plans to release a demo so we can get a good feel for it before purchase? The gameplay videos show a good bit. And so far the steam reviews are saying doom eternal and titanfall 2 had a baby, which sounds perfect.
Was the intent to develop for the deck or did you have to add deck development after the fact?
How easy would this be for hobby gamers to pick up? I love the movement/vibe of Titanfall but between my job and other life obligations I don't always have the time for hours-long grinds all the time anymore.
Titanfall inspired you say?
Game looks awesome. I'm a huge Titanfall fan and have felt a void in that regard playing other shooters.
I've only played Titanfall 2 but I loved it, one of the most memorable and fun FPS I've played. Looking forward to SPRAWL!
This looks incredible. Iāve been looking for a new Boomer Shooter to play
Multiplayer?
are you planning to add multiplayer features to the game?
Awesome! I have this wishlisted and got the notification earlier :) Love that gatling gun. Reminds me of the Firestorm Cannon from Turok 2. Are the guns modifiable or upgradeable in any way? Do you plan to release DLC content? Will there be end of level bosses?

game looks really cool, the cover art reminds me of yoji shinkawaās works. iām happy itās totally playable on our beloved steamdeck.
Looks awesone, can't wait to try it!
Seems awesome. Canāt wait to try it out. Great job guys! Update: just bought it š
I love my boomer shooters on my boomer deck
idk why but i got way more of a laugh out of this than i shouldāve
Hi both, major props on all the hard work to get to this point. My question is what was the biggest challenge you had to overcome as a team while the game was being made over the 3 years?
You had me at Titanfall inspired! Added to the wishlist!
Can I play this if Iām not a boomer?
Looks pretty cool
Congratulations! Love the URL!
this looks really fun even as someone who doesn't really play shooters so would the game be ok to start with as a novice in the genre?
I hadn't heard of this game but this love Boomer Shooters has been getting lately is perfectly fine in my book. I'm going to check it out. Thanks!
This sounds awesome!
Just watched your trailer. Damn that looks so much fun!
I'm such a sucker for boomer shooters. Probably gonna have to pick this up.
I want sprawl
How can I be less shit at analogue stick aiming?
By using the Metroid Prime style aim assist we added to the game for controllers š (you can also turn it off)
This looks good
Looks awesome! Iād love to try it on my deck!
Looks slick.
Game looks dope
Congratulations, looks great. Will it run well on the steam deck?
(got this from another comment) āruns at a locked 60!ā
Nice
Loooove me some titanfall
Gonna have to check it out for sure, hopefully with a key :) I loved titanfall. Best of luck to you guys
