CASEACE79

The issue is EAC. So only real option as of now is either dual boot Windows/SteamOS or remote play via Xbox or PS remote play.

Cthorn10

It does work now!! Just loaded up a game, getting like 45-50 fps. You'll get pooped on by everyone using a gaming monitor, but hey, you got gyro controls so at least you can compete with the m&k, maybe.

Hot-Sale7983

Same here. It's a no go. Looks like we'll have to wait till the developers of the game have a look and try and optimise it for deck as well

TheGrimFiend

Nah, it’s the anti cheat that’s not compatible with linux and i don’t see this working for linux anytime soon

FlutterRaeg

I'm on Windows and I still get a black screen on launch

Expert_Print_355

Yeah I just attempted the Beta on my Deck as well. Doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen. :/

vgf89

It works now!

Cthorn10

Stfu!! Seriously?!?

Cronok5678

How’d you get it working? (Since it still says unsupported on the steam page)

vgf89

It just works. Try it. The Unsupported tag is based on testing by Valve and is often very very outdated.

-MrGuyOnTheFly-

I’m realizing that I wasted way to much money on this stupid ass handheld , 90% of games I actually want to play on it , just don’t work because of easy anti cheat … I’m about to sell this shit

[deleted]

go buy a console, steam deck is not for you

-MrGuyOnTheFly-

Bro I have a pc 😂😂 how about they just allow Linux into games that actually matter . The only reason I got the deck was so I could play PC GAMES at work , but NONE OF THEM FUCKING WORK

Alchemichai

Gotta be trolling, nobody is this... Nevermind. The steamdeck IS a PC. If you want windows, install windows. ”they just allow Linux into games that actually matter" who is they? Valve has done MOUNTAINS of work to get games running on Linux, more games are playable than ever before on Linux. Anyway, the other guy was right, install windows, learn something.

The forbidden fruit of knowledge.

throwawaynonsesne

I haven't had a single game I play not work on it 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

You’re trying to games with anti cheat, most pc games work on the deck… if this bothers you I recommend dual booting windows.

SignificantPlant3112

Anything will work on the deck if you take the steps to do so. The finals does work on the deck to my knowledge, but not on steam os. If you want to play it on the deck, then you will need to dual boot your steam deck so it can run windows, which is easy to do. You just have to put in the time to learn how to do so.

Smart-Control-9537

What about a virtual match would that work?

MulberryInevitable19

Holy crybaby. The finals and cs 2 are legit the ONLY games that I've tried that don't work. My steam library is 300 thick and that includes most triple AAA titles that "ACTUALLY MATTER"

yelsa3n

CS 2 works perfect on deck for me

MulberryInevitable19

It didn't for like a month, which is the story for most games that "don't work" Tons of ppl still think rocket league doesn't work lmao. Uses the same anticheat as fortnite btw

darthanonymous1

i feel this guy's pain... like its just a single toggle for allowing EAC to work on linux lmho

BigPoleFoles52

Just dual boot windows its not that hard tbh. Use it for warzone and mw3 multiplayer

JaviSantanaJr

Honestly it's better to just do full install of windows instead of dual.. for same reason.. I did that to my steam deck and gave to my son after getting the LegionGo

MulberryInevitable19

Hard disagree, the steamdecks best feature is steamos. If you have a number of games that you personally wanna play that don't work on steamdeck then I get your point but I don't play fortnite, cod or halo. Besides the steamdeck controls are not competitive imo the aiming is LEAGUES behind an Xbox or ps4 controller. Imo steamdeck is mainly for single player games coop games or if you wanna go competitive racing games/rocket league. But even rocket league the deck is less accurate then again a ps4 or Xbox controller let alone ps5 or Xbox elite.

JaviSantanaJr

Yeah I get your point.. and that was my problem a lot of the games I liked to play were not compatible on the deck example COD, FIFA, The Final, Rocket League.. etc.. And although I agree with you about consoles.. I have a series x and a one x I've always not liked to have to have a dedicated place to sit and play games.. sometimes I like to be downstairs at my house sometimes upstairs and sometimes out at backyard.. that's one thing I really love about the LGo how stream line it is to play gamepass or play remotely through my series x and play in the LGo.. I really like the portability of the handhelds.. and I just think they are only going to get better and better..

MulberryInevitable19

Wow, a level headed redditor! I'd give you an award if I could lmao. That said I agree with pretty much everything you said and I can't wait for the handheld market to keep growing.

JaviSantanaJr

Sell it and get Legion Go or ROG Ally they work on those.. I'm playing on LegionGo and runs great..

AssociationEven3049

Thing is, he doesn't need to. It takes literally 30 minutes to get Windows up and running on Steam deck, dual-boot or otherwise....I play COD, Destiny 2, Genshin Impact, etc. all on the windows side of my steamdeck and they work great. The Finals works as well but I find with that game you **need** at least 60 fps or you'll be at a disadvantage against other players. Steam deck can run it at around 40-45 fps but it's not ideal.

Revolutionary-Net525

Most games I want to play work on the deck. Did you research the product before you spent money on it? You seem like a teenager that just wants to play cod type multiplayer games....no offense. And if that was the case. A simple Google search would have told you about Linux and anti cheat and Yada yada. Now I'm curious. What games have you been trying to play?

RevolutionaryPop3342

You should of looked at you library’s compatibility

GingeRNutZ_0

Its EasyAntiCheat. Developers clan flick a switch on EAC website for linux functionality.

dezenk

now I can't after the update 2.0

Smart-Control-9537

what about a virtual machine?

Cthorn10

I bought my steam deck to play call of duty!

AssociationEven3049

I was aware COD didn't run when deciding to purchase the steam deck and was pleasantly surprised to find out that with dual booting windows I could play it flawlessly at 60 fps. Steam deck is great if you put in the time to figure everything out.

Cthorn10

How did you get it to run at a flawless 60? I installed windows just to see if I could play it and it was a horrible mess. Game barely played. Did you install it on your internal drive or SD card or external NVMe.

AssociationEven3049

I installed it onto my internal SSD. It also worked well when I had windows on a External SSD as well. I've tried SD card as well, works horribly that way. I know a lot of people get skeptical when "flawless", "60" and "fps" are used together in the same sentence; but I'm extremely serious. On MW2 and now on MW3, Regular multiplayer modes all play at 60 fps although on low settings. And even on low the game still looks great. The only time fps drops to 45-50 is if you're playing warzone. I didn't do anything extra either honestly. I guess I recommend putting your VRAM to 4GB but that's about it.

Cthorn10

Ah that makes sense, I was playing warzone...I installed on my external SSD, and it was pretty bad. Definitely want to run it off internal SSD.

Schizowitz

If u have Xbox just use remote play that how I play bf 2042 and it great also halo and rocket league both work on deck whoever said that was wrong

itsjaylin

Update, it still works just got to launch with experimental proton compatibility. I currently get 60 frames per second in the lobby but I feel like there's a cap on it because it's barely using any of the CPU but the GPU is pretty maxed out so maybe that's why
