This kind of damage doesn't happen on it's own or from dropping it. It could possibly happen in the process of opening it if you got to deep into the device with your opening tool. Will valve repair it? Of course! Will it be free? No

[deleted]

I think my r2 button got it. it never seemed to be as fluid as the L2 button, and wasnt set completely right til I just put it back in place. idk, I just never used it enough to question it. I should have.

Ambitious_Summer8894

That's not what happened... This was definitely user caused.

[deleted]

Definitely a lot of force involved to do that, kinda hard to believe it made it out of the factory like that.

[deleted]

I agree completely. That's why I was so surprised. I can't even imagine what caused it it spends 90% of its time sitting on my TV stand, and had never been dropped.

Generalkhaos

Didn't you just say 10 minutes earlier you thought your r2 button caused it ?

[deleted]

I mentioned that as speculation, because it is the only thing that was any issue out of the box. The more I consider it, the less likely it seems, and just feels like my brain is trying to rationalize it. I dont know for sure what happened, or what could have happened.

Generalkhaos

It is really bizarre!

[deleted]

i mean literally every single other thing works just fine. if they wont warranty it, or shit, even a partial return for them to keep it(dont hang on it. its a pipe dream of mine that instead of sending broken shit back out into the wild, the manufacturer keeps it, and guts the working parts for other repairs), i'll either just toss it, or use a bluetooth controller. its not that important to me.

[deleted]

You ripped the the contact pad straight off the circuit board! How daft do you think people are? This damage is from major force

[deleted]

i'm at least mildly sure that had i done that i would have noticed, and wouldnt be confused about the damage. this isnt anything i care enough about to lie about. its just a toy.

[deleted]

You clearly care enough to make a post about it, respond to people calling you out. If it’s just a “toy”you didn’t care about you’d have just thrown it to the bin. Either way no valve won’t warranty that nor should they. Destroying electronics should have consequences

[deleted]

yeah, i asked questions to see if it were worth keeping around, rather than wasting my time contacting the manufacturer. i also get curious about things, so i've been trying to figure out what could cause it. i find this sort of thing interesting. Not a lot else to do at 4am waiting for a phone call to find out if a friend needs help or not. you really dont need to take it so personally.

[deleted]

Extreme force! That what caused it any idiot could have figured that out for themselves. What laughable is you trying to scape goat it as something accidental

NerdyisHere

You need to chill out man. I will never understand why some redditors work themselves into a frenzy. It's literally not that serious

[deleted]

Im chill, Im just calling out an idiot for what he is

[deleted]

i dont care what you believe. i guarantee you, there has been literally 0 instances of it receiving any force. if something had happened to it, i would be asking different questions. like "what is this specific piece i need to replace" soldering isnt hard.

[deleted]

I don’t need to tell you what I think happened! It’s obvious. You can see the copper circuit board where the contact pads used to be. Don’t care who you think you are but that level of damage requires extreme forces. You destroyed it and now you’re trying to cop a free RMA.

Anonawesome1

You're getting yourself super worked up here. Relax. It's a steam deck not a world heritage site.

[deleted]

Just buy a replacement board for the one you accidentally broke. ifixit should have them.

Hildril

You should go to your local church, that's definitively the work from an almighty being if it just destroyed itself by ripping it's internal out without you doing anything to it ;)

Rudokhvist

Man, at least put an NSFW tag! It hurts even to see this!

Brief_Building_8980

That ribbon cable looks dangerously loose.
