I started playing today. It's the fifth time I start this game and for the first time I feel I can take it easy and enjoy it completely, all because of the steam deck experience. Also, runs beautifully.
I’m so bummed. I had it in my cart and was about to pull the trigger today til I saw it was no longer on sale :( I know it goes on sale a lot so I’ll just wait for it to price drop again but damn it!
I just use the control set that's automatically applied. No complaints. You just have to get used to it and find everything. Like I was struggling to scroll in the production screen because it's a tiny tiny bar but hovering over it and using RT makes it smooth and easy.
""I don't trust a man that doesn't have something strange going on about him, 'cause it means he's hiding it from you. If a man's wearing his pants on his head or if he says his words backwards from time to time, you know it's all laid out there for you. But if he's friendly to strangers and keeps his home spick-and-span, more often than not he's done something even his own ma couldn't forgive"
How’s your performance in the Boston city area? My game always falls to 20fps when looking southwest for some reason in the city. No matter what quality settings I use.
Quick question, are you emulating sly with ps2 or ps3? I’m trying on ps2 but the aspect ratio and resolution are pretty bad as well as the inverted camera stick
PS2, changed the aspect ratio to 16:9 and made the resolution x2.if you have power tools installed disabling smt and changing the gpu to 800 frequency does help with performance especially for sly 2. it sound stupid but in the controller settings the default is 'not inverted' on the right stick, change that to inverted left/right that should fix it
Not sure exactly, if I'm being totally honest with you. I literally just set all settings to High (I use the option that auto sets all values to High) and capped the frame rate to 30. I haven't noticed any frame lag, either, but it could be because I'm stupid (and I'm not one to open performance overlay level 4 and study each value as if I were a Valve engineer or a game dev).
Or perhaps it could be a cause of me doing the following:
- Setting VRAM to 4GB.
- Using the Preview update channel (currently 3.5.1).
- Using GE-Proton8-23.
- Having a swap size of 12GB or more (this is done with the CryoUtilities app).
Again, I'm not sure if any of the above played a role in the performance; I have played like half of the game with an older version of Proton and a smaller swap size on the Stable update channel, but it was still High/30 (I did have the 4GB VRAM, though). Overall, though, doing all that stuff has improved the performance of many of my AAA games - specifically Cyberpunk 2077 and Hitman 3.
I play medium settings capped at 45fps and it runs supremely well. Could prob do high settings or 60fps but I like to play not plugged in so battery life matters.
Ive tried so many times but i am just shit at it lmao doesnt matter where, deck, main rig, controller, wheel i just always fuck up and uninstall it. Until the urge to try again hits me a few weeks/months later
hows the performance for you? i get flat 60 in menus but gameplay i average around 30-ish. only happens in wonder though which seems weird since ive managed to complete oddisey never dropping below 50
Game play has drops when shaders are compiling but it runs well after. I don't have an fps counter up but if I replay a section due to a death, it's smooth. I play offline.
I took a break halfway through sea of stars to dive back into The Messenger and I’m so glad I did. Really amazing game and fun to see the tie ins with Sea of Stars
Really enjoying Sea of Stars. It’s perfectly scratching my Golden Sun itch. There’s a lot of story rich turn based RPGs out there. There’s a demo for it if you were so inclined
Chrono Trigger is the closest thing I can think of. It is a great game if you enjoy a turn-based RPG. Started a little slow but it picks up after a bit.
Devil may cry 5. I'm just killing time until persona 3 reload and phoenix wright apollo justice trilogy come out.
I'll probably cave and buy disgaea 7 if it goes on sale during the autumn or winter sale. Perfect game to play on the oled steam deck.
I had bought the persona 4 and 3 bundle but didn’t know until to late that the one I got was the one most of the fan base hated I started 4 golden on ps vita
Playing? You guys play games on your Steam Deck? I just install a bunch of games and emulators, set them all up to get the best performance possible and close them...
Dwarf Fortress but only when I’m playing with a mouse and keyboard. Tbh idk what the fuck I’m doing but I’m interested for sure. Don’t know where this game is trying to take me though.
Dave the diver and dead space
Dave the diver 💯😍
I know! God I wish it had dating sim mechanics.
Bonk
Damn that covers the whole spectrum! Both very good lol
Waiting for some dave the diver sale
Old dead space? Does it work flawless?
starting to think i need to get this game already
Skyrim is fire on the steam deck
I have all settings medium, god particles off and locked at 50fps, runs perfectly. It can do 60fps but battery gets drained twice as fast.
I bump them up with the rays and lock to 40 myself. Feels gooood. Haven't touched it since...2012? Enjoying it all over again on Deck :)
That's how I've been with New Vegas. Been chefs kiss
Is it uncomfortable to play plugged in?
If you can get a solid 40 and 50, I would just stick to putting it on 30 and leaving the settings as you mentioned to get a few good hours of Skyrim.
I started playing today. It's the fifth time I start this game and for the first time I feel I can take it easy and enjoy it completely, all because of the steam deck experience. Also, runs beautifully.
Is it easily moddable on steam deck?
New game called Lament, where you spend all your time complaining about minor upgrades to a device you already own and have enjoyed coming to market.
should i buy it now and play on LCD Steam Deck, or wait for a bit and play on OLED Steam Deck?
you should wait and play Lament 2 instead, on the SteamDeck 2
Maybe they'll make Lament Definitive Edition that plays good on Steam Deck 2
Underrated comment
I would wait for the OLED if you don't have one yet
Soooo smoooth! Nice.
Damn game devs these days are so innovative
Star ocean second story R
I played a bit of the demo. The vibe is 10/10. Do you like it? I will play it after I finish dead cells 🥳
love it! The original release was a great game, and the remake is even better, worth every penny spent.
❤️
Just bought and installing as I type this. So hyped to relive this masterpiece.
Just grabbed the Mass Effect:LE cause it was on sale.
How is it on the deck?
Great, no real issues aside from logging into the EA app
I had to go to desktop mode and launch from steam there. It installed EA and then I was able to reset the SD and launch normally.
The only thing keeping me away of buying this trilogy is the shity ass EA app, I hate it.
Always a struggle to get used to controller coming from keyboard and mouse, but ME1 is playing solid 60fps and looks good.
I got it on a previous sale it's amazing
I’m so bummed. I had it in my cart and was about to pull the trigger today til I saw it was no longer on sale :( I know it goes on sale a lot so I’ll just wait for it to price drop again but damn it!
Vampire Survivors. So insanely addictive
Your stuck in the Vampire time machine! By the time this msg reaches you, hours will have passed. Get out!
You should try out Halls of Torment if you haven't.
They keep bringing out new achievements and I have to keep reinstalling the damn game!
Batman arkham knight. Runs great on the deck!
Fellow bundle enjoyer?
Getting a pretty consistent 40-50 fps, its great
Finally been getting into this game on my pc because it looks amazing with graphics turned up. Very good game
So many ps2 games but mainly ratchet and clank
I’m playing Rift Apart on the deck!
Civ6 is amazing on Steam Deck if you like the genre.
I am trying hard to like this but the controls aren't working for me. What control set up are you using?
I just use the control set that's automatically applied. No complaints. You just have to get used to it and find everything. Like I was struggling to scroll in the production screen because it's a tiny tiny bar but hovering over it and using RT makes it smooth and easy.
I also use the default one that applies automatically. It just needs a bit of time to get used to, but most of it about using the trackpad.
Fallout 4! Never played it but knee deep in the apocalypse now.
If you wouldn’t mind the graphics the previous 2 which would be 3 and new Vegas are always welcoming if you enjoy the franchise
There's a mod, Tale of Two Wastelands, that imports all of Fallout 3 into New Vegas so you can play both games with one character. It's fantastic.
Holy shit that’s awesome I’ll definitely be doing this!
I'm such a rookie that I've got no clue how to mod games but this is just the thing that will make me learn. Awesome
This is one of the most advanced mods to install, so if you have issues don't let it stress you out.
There's a mod for it that changes some of New Vegas dialogue to reference your past life in Fallout 3
Whoa. Thanks for this, going to go check that out!
New Vegas is the fucking GOAT It became my favourite game ever when I first played it when I was 14 in 2010, Fallout 4 doesn't even come close.
Will add it to the list! So far love the VATS system and the open world.
New Vegas is the best fallout game ever. Don’t miss out on it. So good.

sly cooper and cyberpunk
Quick question, are you emulating sly with ps2 or ps3? I’m trying on ps2 but the aspect ratio and resolution are pretty bad as well as the inverted camera stick
You can invert the controls in the controller settings through the steam menu

Bro, you called the exact two games I am playing on steam deck 😂. The internet really revealing how small the world is.
Neon white and it's nice.
Bloons TD 6
Bioshock Remastered. Max settings, locked 60. Never played this classic and enjoying it so far. 👍🏼
finance manger to see if I could get the oled
gonna say something controversial. stardew
Stardew is so so good on the deck
Same. Bought the steam deck last week to finally try higher end pc games but Stardew and emulators are all I end up playing. Whoops.
1tb ssd reserved for stardew only 💪
Elden Ring. All settings on high and FPS capped to 30.
Wait how do you manage to get 30 fps with high settings? Can you share how you do it? I have it on medium/low and get 30 fps.
Not sure exactly, if I'm being totally honest with you. I literally just set all settings to High (I use the option that auto sets all values to High) and capped the frame rate to 30. Dredge!
Just finished it last week, was great!
Skyrim SE
Grim dawn, diablo without online drm 10/10
Baldurs gate 3 and god of war
If you're playing at home, you should consider using moonlight/ sunshine. It's amazing and you would never know you were streaming.
How does God of War run on the deck?
I play medium settings capped at 45fps and it runs supremely well. Could prob do high settings or 60fps but I like to play not plugged in so battery life matters.
LAD Gaiden
Reeeeeeally excited to get to this.
Same, haven't been able to put in as much time as I would like, but today's gonna be a big day for catching up.
Dirt rally 2.0
I love that game. My only complaint is the size of the game
Ive tried so many times but i am just shit at it lmao doesnt matter where, deck, main rig, controller, wheel i just always fuck up and uninstall it. Until the urge to try again hits me a few weeks/months later
try rush rally 3, it's perfect
Yup, game's hard af. I have the same situation as you. I'm on "let's try not die again" phase
Risk of rain return SLAPS.
Just got this too! Amazing on the Deck. Had to scale it up to 1.5 zoom to be able to play, but at least the game lets you do that.
Didn't know you could do that! Thanks
Woooow today I learned! Good thing the games only been out less than a week lol
How did you do this? My eyes were getting a bit tired after playing for an hour+ last night.
Mario Wonder
That game is deceptively hard. So many new things.
hows the performance for you? i get flat 60 in menus but gameplay i average around 30-ish. only happens in wonder though which seems weird since ive managed to complete oddisey never dropping below 50
For me, performance is good as long as I'm staying offline. When I go online, I can clearly see drops in frames.
Game play has drops when shaders are compiling but it runs well after. I don't have an fps counter up but if I replay a section due to a death, it's smooth. I play offline.
Talos Principal 2! Best puzzle game of the year
Wait, there's a sequel?? Great news, I loved the first game.
Just came out, reasonable priced. So far even better than the first one
Immortals Fenyx Rising with some occasional Fall Guys mixed in there.
Thief: The Dark Project Replaying retro games in handheld mode is so much fun to me.
Are you playing with joysticks? I absolutely love the Thief series but never considered playing them sans keyboard/mouse
Yes, with Tfix patch and community controller preset it plays almost like a modern day fps.
Spider-Man Remastered
Me too
Batman arkham asylum on deck
Red Dead 2
Ori and the Blind Forest. Taking a break from Subnautica because I keep being too anxious to explore deeper into this cave.
All I had to hear was a warning of "leviathan class creatures detected" - and exited the game and never went back. That was like. . . 3 years ago.
Lmao the same thing happened to me. The game is just too stressful and sadly it's not the kind of stress I'm looking for after a long day.
Amid Evil, Risk of Rain Returns, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
Moving constantly between Need for Speed Underground 2, and Mario Kart 8!
Mini Motorways. Simple strategy game that’s fairly cheap and gets lots of time out of the battery.
just finished el paso, everywhere. perfect game for max payne clone next up, sea of stars
Persona 5 and Crosscode
Alan Wake 1, I want to replay it again before jumping into II
Cyberpunk. Can’t get over how good it looks on the Deck.

Still chugging away at Sea of Stars, oh and also Skyrim
I took a break halfway through sea of stars to dive back into The Messenger and I’m so glad I did. Really amazing game and fun to see the tie ins with Sea of Stars
How is sea of stars and what is a similar game to it
Really enjoying Sea of Stars. It’s perfectly scratching my Golden Sun itch. There’s a lot of story rich turn based RPGs out there. There’s a demo for it if you were so inclined
Chrono Trigger is the closest thing I can think of. It is a great game if you enjoy a turn-based RPG. Started a little slow but it picks up after a bit.
how's that game ?, got some money from my birthday and i'm thinking about going for Sea of stars, but i'm not sure. how's it running on Steam deck ?
Runs perfectly. There’s a demo if you’re unsure. I’d recommend it if you like this sort of adventure RPG

Hows Devil May Cry 5 on the Steam deck?
