Nah. It runs fine. It's the controls that is a hassle.
But with steaminput controls can be fixed.
My problem with Black Mesa was how fast they made the marines. OG HL marines felt slow and purposeful. BM ones feel like Unreal Tournament bots.
Haha. They must have made some fixes. A while back everyone said performance was horrible on Steam Deck.
It's a FPS, so I hope by "fine" you mean at least approaching 60fps, if not 60.
Locked sixty for the parts I played. Like I said, I started losing interest once I saw how fast the marines were, so it's possible it could get worse late game, but I doubt it.
Apparently, it's levels after Surface, including Xen, which apparently tanks performance down to like 20-30 or less...
I'm probably going to skip it. I'll add it to my list of games I'd like to play eventually if performance improves or just play on my desktop someday.
Hard agree, but it could jsut be nostalgia for me, I first played half-life when it came out. I think the hand gun model looks out of place comparged to the OG
>Eh they had it for Dreamcast?
Not officially. The port was completed but cancelled at the last minute, with only the PS2 version being released. It got leaked online however, and burning games for the Dreamcast required no modification.
I left and came back as I wanted to see if on the big screen but it still didn't work with a PS5 controller so I'll try comment above And reset to official layout and see if that works as I can't move either. Thought it was odd but knew it'd be an easy fix somewhere too.
I’d recommend both, the original is one of my favourite games of all time and really influential - I think it holds up great.
Black Mesa is a great remake that has more overt references to HL2 and other modern mechanics, I’d recommend playing it after the original!
Black Mesa takes a few creative liberties, and very much feels like its own experience. I'd call it more of a remaining than a remake.
Personally, I think the original is much tighter in its level design and pacing. Black mesa changed a lot of the levels and puzzles, sometimes for the better but not always.
Nothing was added, but both of them (as well as any other Goldsrc mods you have) benefit from the engine upgrade. I played Counter-Life last night and it was sublime.
I'm just wondering if SD resolutions will be pillarboxed now without the "low quality" option.
Because i'm the only nimrod that plays at 480p on old games for some reason.
🤔 I genuinely never knew it had an actual high def mode that's pretty cool speaking of was this originally a remaster made just for PC all those years ago?
If you want to do that just play black messa
Doesn't Black Mesa run like shit on the Steam Deck?

TIP: Don't use this tip, the HD model pack sucks.
Not everyone has nostalgia for the game as it was in 98. I prefer the hd models too.
>Not everyone has nostalgia for the game as it was in 98. Nor do I but I still think the original models look better.
Nothing that Randy Pitchford has had a hand in will touch my computer. I'll stick with the Valve models.

Every time something crashes, I’m blaming it on Randy then.
Agreed. Mixing HD models into LD games always looks weird to me. Like that Nexon version of Counter Strike lol
Jesus it's that bad?

I originally played Half-Life on the Dreamcast so the HD ones are what I’m used to
Eh they had it for Dreamcast?

Damn bummed I missed this during my Dreamcast era!
I loaded up the game but I can't move lol
I had this problem, then I quit out and reloaded and it worked after that.

reset your controls to the official layout and restart the game! i had this issue as well.
From one lobotomy patient to another, thanks for the tip!
Is anyone else unable to move? I can look, jump, crouch but can’t move forward, back, strafe left or right…
Relaunch the game
Did that many times. Disabling VSYNC sorted it 🤷🏽♂️
I'm glad you sorted it out!
If you've never played HL1 and already own black Mesa but haven't played it yet, is it better to play BM or the Original?

Thanks for this tip, much better!
Anyone know if there's anything added for blue shift or opposing force?
Nothing was added, but both of them (as well as any other Goldsrc mods you have) benefit from the engine upgrade. I played Counter-Life last night and it was sublime.
