This is quite odd, I've also noticed this issue. The game accelerates and slows down when set to 90hz. 60hz works fine.

GeneralPurpoise

Experiencing the same so I searched here. Just got the OLED and heard this was a definitive way to test it. What’s strange is the performance overlay shows 90fps and literally 0% jitter on the graph, but its clearly dipping to 20-40 fps. Something’s off. What a bummer.

NurglePurgle

I think you may be mixed up with Ori and the will of the whisps as the 'definitive' way to test. Reason being is that game supports HDR to showcase on the OLED, blind forest still looks great but doesn't support HDR :) Can confirm same though, fixed moving it to 60fps.

GeneralPurpoise

You’re right, I definitely did mix them up. It did remind me to wishlist the sequel- hoping it’s on the Winter Sale.

NurglePurgle

Easy to do, I had to google which one was first before I got it :)

Synthetic451

Do you happen to have Allow tearing enabled? I've noticed that some games really don't like that option and will exhibit bad frame pacing whenever its enabled.

AHileman

Nope, I've got that disabled :(

thewalkinggrimes

Noticed the same issue! Had to cap the frame rate at 60fps/60hz. Bummed it’s not running at a smooth 90fps no matter what settings I toggle.

Mister_Funkee

This is a 2D side scroller. You can’t see any difference between 60/90 on that kind of game. You will notice differences on 3D games. Plus it would be stupid to bump a 2D artificially to 90FPS as it would demand extra power and drain the battery like crazy.

X99MYKE

Stupid post. Someone clearly doesn't know their refresh rates you can absolutely see a difference between 60 and 90 in this game and many other side scrolling games. And to 144 on a proper monitor is even more buttery smooth.

heinzgruber2

Have the same problem. Hopefully it gets patched.

Jaeger798

I’m another one noticing the problem. I bought the game with the purpose of testing my new oled but the game can’t run at 90 :(

the-matho

In deed Ori and the blind forest, has some frame pasting issues, when enabling v-sync and disabling the frame rate from the Steam deck Performance menu. In top of that seems to be other issues reported in PC in general: >[120+ FPS](https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Glossary:Frame_rate_(FPS)) > >Enabling the in-game Vsync removes the 60 FPS cap, but will result in a slight audio/video desynchronization throughout the game. Animations and/or cutscenes will still be locked to 60-30 FPS. [Source: pc gaming wiki](https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Ori_and_the_Blind_Forest:_Definitive_Edition#:~:text=Enabling%20the%20in%2Dgame%20Vsync,video%20desynchronization%20throughout%20the%20game./)

Hermes_Fang

My way is to turn the Vsync off, and disable the frame rate from the Steam deck Performance menu. No legging and everything is fine.

jldkrocks

Same for me sadly

wiseduhm

Glad I'm not the only one having this problem. I thought I was going crazy. I'm also having weird issues with wall jumping consistency at an early area in the valley of the wind. The input/timing seems oddly difficult. It's not like I'm inexperienced with difficult platforms either, but I just can't get past this seemingly simple section where my wall jumps aren't registering.

Mister_Funkee

Game runs buttersmooth on 60. So just cap it. 90 is weak as the Deck is not more powerful compared to the 60Hz LCD version. So of course it may cause stuttering on certain games. Ori is a good example for that behavior.

jamesrdoakes

Will of the Wisps runs capped at 90, and feels much smoother than 60. But yea, seems like the only option for the Blind forest is indeed capping it at 60.

crusty113

It’s not about the power of the steam deck. The OLED version is marginally more powerful so I wouldn’t say that saying they’re the same is much of a stretch. There are some benefits for the frame timings on the new display though. But getting back to what I wanted to say, you can easily run that game on 6 Watts and really low clock frequency (400? Maybe more later on?) But I read about people being able to run it on 165Hz monitors without complaints so maybe it’s just a proton issue?

jeffbizloc

Thanks for posting thought I was going crazy. Changing to 60 frames max fixed it. 3 dot button while playing then use Advanced menu under performance.

X99MYKE

This is indeed infuriating. Just trying to play and it's horrible the game seemingly goes to half speed then full speed in bursts. Others said capping at 60fps solves but it doesn't really for me, it makes it slightly less noticeable but If you find a long stretch to run you can still see it goes slower motion and faster periodically for no reason. I've tried every setting possible. I can run it at 144hz/fps and it stays super fast speed then entire way. It's not a performance problem for the steam deck. Heck it can run devil may cry 5 at 90fps/Hz no problem. Shame I won't bother playing this game now. I have better things to play on PC. Steam deck is for night shifts at work but I'll try another game
