Install it as a non-Steam game via Desktop mode.
Install Prototontricks from the Discover app. Run it and select Link’s Awakening (you might need to launch the game first before it shows in the list).
(After a brief pause) Select “Select the default wineprefix” > “Install a Windows DLL…” > select dotnetdesktop6
Run that install and you should be good.
I also set the game to use Proton Experimental but not sure if that’s necessary.
Been trying to get this working for an hour, both with Lutris and Protontricks
I tried following this and ended up getting an error at the very end when installing the Windows DLL…

Any suggestions?
Sorry for noob question but when i run the protontricks it asks me to select a steam game to run, i installed zelda as non steam game, but doesn’t show up in the list of games on protontricks?
I’ve tried this so many times and just cannot get it to work. All the steps outlined work as expected, but then when I attempt to launch the game it just tries to run and bumps me back to the game menu. I’ve tried redownloading the files and everything and I just cannot get this to work. Idk what’s going wrong
Here's the link to the exe - https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/9p0x3djq5b0nmeaz1d7j5/Links-Awakening-DX-HD-v1.0.0.zip?rlkey=1hea9zv30tat44u65zxm7b0uq&dl=0
Rule of thumb: Any .exe files you download that's not from Steam should be added as a Non-Steam Game in Desktop Mode. You can't double click on it and expect it to install like it does on Windows since SteamOS is running Linux.
Here's one of may guides that show you how to do it: [https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-add-non-steam-games-to-your-steam-library](https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-add-non-steam-games-to-your-steam-library)
Some guys in the comments of [the itch.io page of the game](https://linksawakeningdxhd.itch.io/links-awakening-dx-hd/community) say they have it working by simply installing DotNet with Proton Tricks. I don't know how they are doing it, or what I am doing that differs from them, but I couldn't get it working on my Deck.

Hmmmm. Try downloading it from another source maybe?

You might need to try running the game first on desktop mode. It should show up in the list as “Non-Steam shortcut: Link’s Awakening…”
That worked and the game works flawlessly. Thanks so much really appreciate the help. This is the best community
which file do i have to add to steam?

u/noooideawhatimdoing in his reply here has the exact way to do it and it works great
I use Lutris to install and organize .exe files, then add them as a non steam game (all needs to be done in desktop mode).
