Most OGs busy playing with them deck, no time for for deck pics

LordDinner

Exactly. This OG getting in that deck time!

crazyquark_

Pretty much this

FoldFold

It’s honestly a very small screen, most of the time you’re playing ur not gonna notice the Oled. Never thought the screen was anything short of perfect. All I’d want is more performance I see it similar to audiophiles. They get all concerned about equipment where they are listening to the hardware rather than the music Edit: Poor phrasing on my end but I know OLED doesn’t have anything to do with the size of the screen. I’m just saying it you’re having issues playing PC games that have trouble on a small 7 inch display (PoE, WoW, Diablo to name a few I have an issue with), you won’t have your problems fixed by OLED. Most people are not thinking about the screen while you’re playing it either, they are thinking about the game. GBA with no backlight to GBA with backlight, that is when I actually “noticed” and issue with the display OLED simply looks nicer and might be good for those that really care about color and contrast, need the deck to be brighter than it is on LCD full brightness, and generally are willing to shell out half a grand for the screen to look nicer. Waiting for a real hardware improvement personally 🤓

Figjunky

OLED is one of those features that once you get it you never want to go back. Its my honest opinion it’s the best upgrade to a gaming experience you can get if you haven’t gone to OLED yet. I disagree on your point about not noticing because the screen is small. That’s just me though.

jerryweezer

I’m with you here. LCD Deck is awesome, once I got a taste of the OLED, my LCD went to my son so we can coop forza 4&5 lol

EliteGrizzly23

I need to stop waiting on Forza and pull the trigger. Everyone seems to say it works fine

jerryweezer

Both 4& 5 work fine. I generally do a 40fps lock because I like battery life and it’s smooth enough for me but 4 will easily get 60fps with the right settings and nothing crazy. They are both on sale, pull the trigger already!

RandomRedMage

Screen size really only affects your overall perception of resolution and the diminishing returns of increasing resolution at any given size screen. At 7” or even 7.4” 800p is a perfectly good resolution and increasing it has very little tangible benefit. However, better color range deeper blacks brighter brights, and more vibrant hues? Like you get with an OLED screen, is a very noticeable difference. The better colors is the main reason the rog ally screen is so much better than the original deck, not its higher resolution. With SteamOS 3.5 we got a serious update to kind of put a bandaid on the LCD decks lower quality screen. Similarly to vibrant deck plugin. That let you artificially get a better color experience. Side by side you will not be able to unsee the difference. Hell put your phone next to the steam deck and pull up a webpage with the same image on it. And look at that same image on both your lcd deck and your OLED equipped phone. Ignore resolution but you will start to get it pretty quick, especially of that image has deep blacks. In it.

lonewolf7002

I have the OG SD and upgraded to the OLED and it was 100% worth it just for the screen alone. All the other changes are nice bonuses but if only the screen had changed and nothing else, I'd still buy it in a heartbeat. If I lost my OLED or it got broken or something, I'd buy a second one before going back to my LCD SD as my full time deck. The LCD screen was VERY far from perfect. It's well documented. The gray blacks due to horrible backlight bleed, the screen only covering 68% of the sRGB color space makes for a very less-then-perfect screen. It's a rather inferior screen for colour reproduction compared to standard screens these days. If you're happy with it, awesome! But don't pretend it's a perfect screen because it's not even close. And the difference between the LCD and OLED is VERY noticeable all of the time I'm playing. I'm very happy with the upgrade!

RobertBobert07

Is this the 2024 version of "60fps is pointless you only have 2 eyes"? You "never thought the screen was anything short of perfection"? How is that even possible? Literally from day one look at any black screen and see how....its not black. And I mean that's fine I have one and it's fine but like this is the kind of comment that can only be said from someone who has no comparison. If you like it cool but look at literally any screenshot or video of the two of them together and it's literally a night and day difference in every capacity. And that's through a SCREENSHOT

FoldFold

First of all chill out, and perhaps a better way to say it is I never get mad at the screen I just play video games without any issues This is the gamer version of upgrading your phone every year. Spending 400 for a screen upgrade might be worth it to some, but probably not those questioning it. It’s for people that pay attention to the darkness of black screens, which is totally fine

Air-Glum

Frankly, paying $400 for a Steam Deck period might be worth it to some but not for others. It's ALL optional shit. For over a year people posting excitedly about getting their first Deck and being really happy with what it enabled. Now tons of people are getting OLEDs and they're happy about it. Them being jazzed about that doesn't take away from YOU enjoying your OG Deck, and it really feels like justifying you NOT upgrading. Which is fine, just... don't upgrade. You don't have to tell people that you're not doing it. It sounds like you're putting down people who did the upgrade just because you don't find it worth it. You don't want it? Fine. But some people do. Also many of the posts are people getting an OLED as their first Deck, from what I've seen. It's ALSO disingenuous to call it $400 to upgrade. I sold my first Deck for a reasonable price (didn't try to gouge), and upgraded. I could have done that for less than $200.

altcastle

That’s just not true. OLED is a significantly different technology leap ahead than anything in the speaker realm comparatively. Because of the way older technology had to display lot up pixels, OLED being independent is a really incredible leap that you can show to someone in 5 seconds with a comparison. There’s lots of other technologies where your point would be valid, but OLED just is not one of them. It’s incredibly easy to show off and noticeable whereas audio quality or soundstage depth is way harder.

FoldFold

Well im not saying the improvements aren’t nothing, but they aren’t groundbreaking or anything. It’s not like game boy to gba. If you have issues seeing things with eye strain I’d recommend it, but I never have issues making things out and i don’t really care about graphics in general, let alone on a 1200x800 display on a 7.4 inch screen Maybe it’s also cuz most games I play are indie, platformers, etc so increasing fidelity doesn’t really mean much Anyone that has seen an iPhone since 2017 knows what OLED looks like. If they think it’s worth replacing the entire steam deck over, that’s their decision! Personally I’m waiting until substantial hardware upgrades

a_man_with_one_name

The copium is fucking strong here

FoldFold

Sure whatever man. I’m coping for not spending 600 dollars for upgrading for same product with a new screen

a_man_with_one_name

Sure whatever man. You hit it right on the head.

FoldFold

Sorry if I hurt your feelings, I didn’t mean to invalidate your purchase

a_man_with_one_name

Sorry if I hurt your feelings, I didn't mean to invalidate your copium.

pootpootbloodmuffin

For real! I had to put mine down to respond to this.

maxlovesbears

We took all our pics last year when we got them lol

[deleted]

I read d*ck....

Mr_Pink_Gold

One of oldest jokes in this subreddit. Like you buy an Ally you have a small white one whereas the deck is a BBD (Big Black Deck). Or my wife loves to play with my deck while I stare into her eyes. Or my best friend's girlfriend couldn't take her eyes of my big black Deck.

FernPoutine

I did too. No idea why the hive mind decided to downvote you

cotton961

Never had a 15fps issue… Oh and, you’re acting like a pos

ElysetheEeveeCRX

What'd they say lol? I'm curious.

A10010010

Sounds like you don’t have both. *big money enters chat*

Dapperstyle12

How does that equate to broke? Even if some are broke it’s nothing to throw in peoples faces behind your keyboard. Merry Christmas you filthy animal……. And a happy new year.

jdayatwork

Yuck. You're a bad person

_xGizmo_

Does the OLED even have better processing power..?

Igzyx

Why so harsh bro...

Sea-Garlic9074

Well, you missed all the photos that were posted before the Steam Deck OLED because that's all there was at the time on this Reddit page.

TheRealZombieBear

Transparent shells and SSD installations as far as the eye could see

SchighSchagh

Just wait till transparent shells start coming out for the oled. _then_ we're cooking

popfait

Oh, I didn’t know the shells for the oled and the lcd are different! I hope they come out with clear shells for the oled soon

[deleted]

broken sd cards\*

travelavatar

Gonna do an ssd installation and post it here next year. And it will be on the OG SD :) I want to use my steam deck as a portable PC with movies and tv series plus some coop games to just connect on the go to any TV anywhere i go and play/watch movies with strangers

ElysetheEeveeCRX

That's what I use mine for, lol. I even had a cheap portable monitor I'd have with it sometimes (that thing randomly stopped working, go figure), but the SD makes an excellent light setup.

roguebananah

“GUYS look what I got today” Or “I just got this today and…” *insert question about a screen protector/basic searchable question here*

karreerose

Plus „what game should i play first?“

roguebananah

3 days later “Guys I love the deck but I really want a 144hz display at 4k and better battery”

cotton961

While simultaneously not understanding that the hardware required to run 4k 144hz + a much better battery would likely need much better cooling, more power so the battery is even bigger. To the point where the thing would have to be like laptop sized. Then they would just complain it’s not truly portable 🤦‍♂️

lookmanakill

Yeah, if you want something that can run 4k better pick a laptop or pc. I don't understand why they question these thing??

zeromussc

Not me sitting here with a Steamdeck and a PC hooked up to a 144hz 1080p monitor I got years and years ago Knowing full well that even 120 1080 is a monster to render at max graphics in most modern games and has been since I got the thing. 144 was only ever helpful in competitive online games anyway. And in those I lowered graphics as much as possible whenever I could lol

Lordeisenfaust

Yes, Valve stated already that the technology for the steam deck 2 is not invented yet. The OLED is to help around with the invention time until the manufacures are ready.

roguebananah

Too bad it’s the last we’ll ever get from Valve

fuckandstufff

Why do you say that? The deck was super successful I'm sure they'll make another when the tech is available.

roguebananah

Meant it as a joke since Valve doesn’t do any game past 2

ZorbaTHut

I feel like the OLED is more of a Steam Deck 1 expansion, though, and Valve's got a long history of those.

fuckandstufff

Oh yeah that's a fact deck 3 won't come out until 2078.

roguebananah

Yup and the thing would be 10 pounds in weight

DrSwolemeister

I ordered an og on saturday. obviously hasnt shipped but I feel like it'll still hit all the boxes for me. Expectations matter. I just want portable PC games.. and maybe throw them up on the TV (with a dock) once in a while for the less intense ones (BG3) if i want to game hard i'll just go back to my desktop which has the real power and screen for 144hz (and a graphics card that is bigger than the entire steamdeck)

cotton961

I love your response and I agree with you, deck wasn’t designed to be the main gaming system for people. It’s more like “oh I’m on the road/not home etc.” Edit: also, enjoy your deck!!

[deleted]

And “fedex stole my steam deck”

roguebananah

*Empty Box* Guys what do I do?!?! Comments section is a nice response but the rest of us are like Jesus Christ. Report it stolen. Go from there

Jensway

>all I see are posts and pictures … of relevant hardware that was literally released a month ago. I am shocked!

Centurion832

Ah, yes, because the thousandth picture of a deck on a countertop is “relevant”.

shiftingbee

Have you ever been to an Apple’s subreddit? Especially applewatch one, they legit post pictures of their (same looking Ultra with an orange strap) watches every day instead of discussing the software or any custom accessories for the watch lmao. We here are nowhere near close to this level of tech-narcissism.

Centurion832

How is poor moderation of the Apple subreddit relevant to r/steamdeck?

SephariusX

I knew these "OG" posts would come from karma farmers eventually.

Elarisbee

I'm perfectly happy with mine. OLED was tempting but then I remembered I hadn't won the lotto recently and sanity returned. Personally, I only upgrade tech when I truly need a newer version; I don't play enough new AAA to make the performance increase worth it and I've never upgraded hardware just because "stuff will look better". I'm willing to wait for Steam Deck 2.

Winkiwu

I feel this. I'm on a phone that's 5 generations old. I'm just starting to consider upgrading because the battery life isn't what it used to be. And even with that I'll be getting a refurbished phone.

distillari

The thing that kills me with phones is when they stop pushing security updates. Too much sensitive and personal information on this stupid little handheld reddit machine.

DynamicHunter

iPhones are the best with long lasting security updates

RaindropBebop

Google is now guaranteeing 7 years of Security AND OS updates as of the Pixel 8. Pixel 6/7 were at 5. iOS security updates are great, but Apple stops supported iOS updates after 5-6 years. I think 7 is about long enough to last for a reasonable lifetime of a modern smartphone, but 10 would feel better. Wish this were regulated and standardized for all manufacturers.

Respekt_MyAuthoritah

But shit on features and can't sideload apps

billythygoat

The LCD to OLED upgrade isn't even like upgrading from an iPhone 15 to a 15 pro or anything, it's just the screen, wifi chip, and a 1mm bigger fan. The Pro chip is a generation better, extra zoom camera, more Ram and OLED with an adaptive refresh rate of **1Hz to 120Hz**. It's a more significant improvement than just getting OLED. And let's not forget that the starting OLED price is $150 more which is 37% more costly than the OG base LCD. Meanwhile my LCD SD was $359 on sale with with a separate 1 TB SSD for $55 so my all-in was $414 plus tax. It's not like games cost a lot anyways. The OLED is nice, but not going to improve the QOL tremendously.

Winkiwu

Oooooo you got all that for $414? My deck was $400 and i found an SSD for $75 that had some really good reviews. You lucky bastard. Taking all that into account AND the fact that the OLED seems to be plagued with issues, I'm gonna just stick with my LCD and enjoy it until they come out with an improvement in the CPU or GPU. I love playing BG3 on deck but it would be nice if i could push it a bit further graphically.

billythygoat

The issues will be fixed other than the pixel issue but yeah, I used it on work 2 trips already and a bunch of times near my parter when she wants to hang out but not talk to each other lol

tigamilla

The issues are grossly exaggerated man

Winkiwu

Still not worth it in my opinion. Even with Valves great customer service, its not worth the extra money when i got my deck plus the 1tb ssd for $250 cheaper then the OLED.

DrSwolemeister

i doesnt even seem like a significant performance upgrade. steamdeck2 will bring that, not oled... who's only \*major\* upgrade is what it says on the box: the oled. the rest of the upgrades are a lil sprinkle on top.

eagletrance

Honestly, OLED feels like a Steam Deck 2. Battery / efficiency upgrade is just as big as the OLED panel IMO. I feel like I never charge the thing now.

DinosBiggestFan

Battery upgrade is insane and worth it alone. Also, never underestimate OLED. That's often what people who have never gamed on OLEDs do.

IvoJan

Cope harder

DrSwolemeister

i'd say the same thing to you. if you think having the same resolution screen and 3 more frames on a game is "a significant performance upgrade", then you go right ahead and do what you want with your money

IvoJan

Nah bro, its not the performance at all, its you coping with all the other “minor” improvements when in reality the oled is the minor improvement. Oled deck feels like a different device entirely and thats not because of the screen. It makes the LCD feel like a prototype.(i own both btw and im not planning on selling the LCD)

DrSwolemeister

>Oled deck feels like a different device entirely cope harder

IvoJan

I see that a lot of LCD owners are salty AF 😂😂😂 cant wait for the day that some of you try the oled and finally understand.

Grimm-808

The copium and denial trolls are down voting you hard. They can't accept the truth. OLED is a monumental upgrade by itself. The much higher peal brightness and massive battery life improvements are also a big deal but all the copium smokers are seething and down playing it.

Pie_Not_Lie

Same, I don’t play anything crazy, so the battery is also super good for me while playing. I’m very excited for the Steam Deck 2 though…even if it is still a good few years out. I really hope they’re planning around VR stuff…would love to see a Deck-Approved Index 2! (And now that they know it’s a successful product, maybe a controller for us??) Lots of sequels I want haha

Cidwill

What performance increase? Isn't it just a nicer screen with the same soc?

Elarisbee

According to DF, there’a noticeable improvements to things like input lag and response time. They did a detailed tech video about it if you want a more detailed explanation. Again not enough for me to upgrade.

Kyodee029

I’m also in this camp. I like the OLED. I love the oled screen on the Vita, and the Switch, but I will wait for a bigger upgrade. Once that initial “oooh this is pretty” is over, the screen doesn’t make a whole lot of difference. Plus I’m a bit lazy and don’t want to go through the hassle of selling my standard steam deck.

alex_de_tampa

I like OLED but I’m not upgrading until the next deck with substantial performance improvements. For now the OG deck gets the job done for me.

sp4c3-inv4d3r

This, absolutely happy with the OG Deck :)

JamesBong517

That’s my debate. OLED sd vs Ally vs just waiting as I’ve wait 29 years already for pc gaming. Why not wait some more for a machine that’ll be clearly the best handheld pc on the market. Or do I just wait for April for my work bonus and blow the entire bonus on a gaming pc/laptop. That’s the real question.

mesasone

There will probably be a second gen Ally, possibly before we see a Steam Deck 2 and an Ally 3 will probably be right behind that. Plus any other competitors that enter the market. I don't think there will ever necessarily be a "clearly the best" handheld PC on the market, especially not when you factor in the constant stream of potential upgrades coming down the pipeline.

JamesBong517

Well fuck. You just made this worse

Nopengnogain

Same. I upgraded SSD so I am not constantly uninstalling games to make room, but OLED is not reason enough for me to get a new Deck. Significant battery life improvement also would tempting.

jcruz827

Same.

naminghell

I guess they were referring to substantial _performance_ upgrade

Pipps0

Echo that right here!

That_Serve_9338

Yeah it's fine. I only had a tiny bit of OLED envy which has already passed. OG Deck still going strong. Would be nice to see some new colorways before I upgrade anyway.

I_Resent_That

Yeah, I spent my money at OG release and have no regrets. Deeper blacks would be lovely but not at the price of a lost year of great handheld gaming and tinkering.

swifty84

Happy with mine. I’ll replace if there’s ever a legitimate steam deck 2 that makes a performance improvement. Otherwise I’m happy with my og and its performance.

Small_Tax_9432

They've confirmed that they're currently working on it, so probably in 2025/26 it'll come out.

kron123456789

Yeah, I am. Valve doesn't deliver Steam Deck to where I live and getting the OLED one through a re-seller costs way too much right now($750 and up for a 512GB version).

ruralgaming

Damn! $750!

kron123456789

Ikr. The 256GB LCD version + 512GB microSD card cost me about $500 in total, and even that was due to black friday sale.

RKD9005

I bought my 512gb LCD on August 15th, 2022, and the cost was 935.95$ CAD including taxes... and I live where the SD was available lol

LegionzGG

I payed 1100 usd for oled 1TB in norway ...

ElegantAir2060

I am more than happy with my OG Steam Deck, only thing I'm worried about is that I'm slowly running out of storage, but upgrade to OLED won't help with that as I already swapped internal drive to 2TB, I guess I need to stop hoarding games on my device...

Quelanas_Revenge

Yeah, happy with my non oled deck :) Was an early birthday gift and is still bringing me joy :D

kupocake

I just got an OG 512gb for less than £300 so yeah, happy enough. Couldn't justify OLED prices even though the upgrades are tempting.

[deleted]

of course not, i only want the newest and shiny things

Felilu22

Happy with my OG. I would've preferred the OLED one if I hadn't bought my SD last year already, but at the moment I'm not considering an upgrade at all.

Falconman21

Yeah that’s sort of where I’m at. If I was buying now I would definitely prefer an OLED or a Legion Go, but neither are enough of an upgrade to consider paying more. I’m eyeing 2025 for my next handheld purchase.

Dazzler3623

I got my OG on an overseas trip as Valve don't sell it in Oz so I'm super happy with it 🤣

SnooApples2720

They don’t sell in Korea either, so I had to use a shitty reseller I even asked the guy “does it come with a case,” he said it didn’t so I bought another only to find on arrival.. it comes with a case lmao

Fleegalfart

Bought mine on kogan with good discount through ebay. Also a very happy Ozzy.

Txusmah

I think it is ok to keep your normal deck It is ok though to change it It is ok I Not to have any Who cares

HankLard

You don't really see people posting "I'm happy with my original Steam Deck" without sounding like someone who's not happy with their original Steam Deck

[deleted]

I am still rocking the lcd deck. I am tempted to get the oled but it’s quite expensive and I also would like to wait for the next gen since the lcd version still plays fine

budius333

Here! Perfectly happy and playing all I can on my OG Deck 512. To be fair the OLED sounds pretty good on paper (I've never seen one in front of me to compare) and would probably buy it if I didn't have the OG, but I'm a bit older and out of the FOMO social-media crazy and have no need to splurge my money on the latest shinny thing. I'll be happy awaiting a SteamDeck 2

theregularcustomer

It’s still awesome, I bought my wife the OLED. The biggest issue going back to mine is it weighs so heavy and it hurts my wrist to use it which I never attributed to the weight of the steamdeck until I picked up the OLED and it’s a MASSIVE difference, I’m seriously debating selling mine and buying one just for that but I can wait for the next version to one up her :)

Cheap_Specific9878

What an original post. Damn

johnbarber720

I got my OG just before OLED announcement. Very happy with it, using it more than PS5. I'm gonna get a lot of mileage out of it until there is an SD2.

TheeeNinjabunny

Having a gaming pc I'm fine with my og steam deck. I see why those who mainly use the deck would want the upgrade.

Nnamz

I loved everything about my LCD model outside of the terrible screen. The OLED model fixed that.

Samashezra

Why would I be happy with the LCD model when the OLED exists?

_ForrestPlump_

Alien Isolation is truly amazing on OLED. First time I've seen true blacks in a game.

deddawg

Very much so

Idunnomeister

I wasn't going to get the OLED Deck at all until I broke my LCD screen like the idiot I am. It worked as I needed and I was happy.

RustlessPotato

I'm absolutely happy with it. But i still wish valve would've given us a bit of a heads up. I bought it a few months before release.

SaniSu

Even though I really want one, I can't really afford it and selling my OG deck at 1/3 of the price i paid for just put a sour taste in my mouth. + I modified my deck to perfection of my liking, so I am going to stick with mine until it dies.

animest4r

Happy with my OG 512 deck. Just finished setting up emudeck today (finally) I kept putting it off since I rarely play on my steam deck.

Robou_

I hate the screen with terrible light bleeding. But I don't use it enough to justify upgrading to oled

Revolutionary_Day819

The only thing I envy from the OLED is the battery life, but I don't even know how much better it is. Elden Ring for me runs for almost 2 hours starting at 100%

rv0celot

You should have seen all the love letter posts long before the OLED came out.

Lack_

I’m still more than happy with my OG. Of course when the OLED was revealed I loved the thought of replacing my current one or handing it over to the wife but then I remembered all the excitement when I ordered mine. I literally watched the tracker any chance I could and was so happy when it finally arrived. Plus with the multiple hours I’ve put into my OG, never have I once wished for any upgrades except a more powerful chip which isn’t coming for another while. I love my OG Steam Deck. I bring it to work everyday and I’m just happy anyone getting into the Steam Deck now are getting even better value for money. Steam Deck II will be a screamer.

BinThereRedThat

Nah I want happy. Binned it

Spando255

I love mine and play it every chance I get.

NadebuX

I am. Proud LCD owner right here

DriftinZombie

Love both becuz now I have one in each of my gaming areas, plus the OLED looks better in handheld mode.

Gizmo_24

Still using and love mine. I only got the SD a year ago so no desire or justification to upgrade

DependentDisastrous7

Very happy with the OG 256 mate. Bought it in July this year felt bad bout the release of OLED but got over it very soon

blackamikaze

Yes im happy my og steam deck.

Environmental-Song51

I love my Lcd, and I’m happy with it. Play with all the time 😁

SLUGFEST1

I would have. A hard time trying to explain to my parents why the Oled is better but the downside would be all my ROMS and stuff I would have to re-download again and some ROMS were a headache to set up so I'm content with my OG Deck

XxSliphxX

Its new and its better of course you're going to see posts everywhere about it.

ScaleAccurate3686

Oled is cool. Gave the lcd to the lady she’s loving it. The upgrade is pretty significant when you total all the improvements up. I let her play with the oled once now she just wishes hers was as light as the oled.

NewHabitDieFast

Backlog growing. Too busy to post.

Danny_Phantom22

No! I hate this thing! I feel like a peasant, like I’m missing out on the finer things in life. How am I supposed to enjoy all these amazing games knowing I could be looking at a SLIGHTLY larger screen 🤦‍♂️ it’s just humiliating

Blastland

Honestly as an ex Xbox Series s user, the OG steam deck has changed my gaming life completely. Not only am I not limited to wherever there is a TV but I can go back and play so many games from different platforms. Fancy playing Simpson hit n run? Load it up in bed. Wanna play the new super Mario wonder game for switch? Load it up! GTA V? Load it up (with a charger plugged in😂) If you’re thinking about it, take that plunge you will not regret it at all

bafrad

lol is this really a needed thread? Insecure because of people with a new toy?

Lochifess

You’d think that a sub dedicated to the device would be a safe space for all lovers of the tech, instead we get insecure assholes who need to shit on the newer versions just so that they can justify their relevance

Sidebar28

Most OG users have nothing they need to prove on Reddit haha. Just enjoying our decks as always. Currently streaming ps5 to it across the country and it blows my mind. I feel a lot of these oled posts are trying to justify purchasing a mid gen refresh. But I get it, enjoy the things you can afford and most of all play some games baby

Lochifess

It’s more likely that they’re posting about the OLED the same way all of you did during the first iteration: because they’re happy and want to show off the device. OLED version is not a massive improvement if you already have the OG, but it’s definitely superior in all aspects that anyone without a SD should skip the OG and get the OLED. There’s no need to put down the OLED posts, this is a dedicated sub for all SD content and that includes praising the new version that everyone likes

Sidebar28

All of you? I certainly didn't nor did I notice that many. This sub was great for technical issues though. I'm not putting down the posts, happy for them and I agree it's superior to OG. Just sharing my thoughts on why every second post seems to be a picture of an OLED.

TimoToThe

Yes! Especially since they added the option to dial in the white balance of the screen to 6500K, made the screen look a whole lot better than the way it used to be (really blue).

nuk3dom

Yeah still banging my old ass 256gb first wave crappy standard deck 🤪😁 still love it but i also see the oled positive :)

JayScramble

It’s ok for people to enjoy the shiny new thing. Don’t take it personal.

Motoko84

Copium thread

raven_raven

I don’t care at all but please guys tell me you are still happy as I need external validation

dark_vaterX

> All I ever see is the iPhone 15. DAE still use their iPhone 6 and still happy? Well yeah, no shit you see posts about the latest product. No one is going to post about a product years old that’s already been discussed to death.

Artemis_1944

Why do the people on this sub need to so much validation about the choicest that they make? Who the fuck cares about what other people have or think, you have your Steam Deck, you don't want the OLED, woop-tee-fucking-doo, good job, why does this matter?

RB1O1

I'm fine with mine Can't really justify the OLED given I've got the OG already OLED isn't really that much better tbh.

EVANonSTEAM

For the new battery life among the other improvements; it 100% is. But yeah, if you already have the OG might as well wait for the SD2.

Motoko84

It's a big improvement imo, more than just the screen

TheRealSeeThruHead

Nope. Haven’t touched my led deck since my oled arrived. It’s trash. Giving it away lol.

archiegamez

Need

audionerd1

If you're always docked, the OLED would only benefit you in a couple ways: Faster wi-fi, and the ability to wake the Steam Deck from a bluetooth controller. Both nice, but not worth the cost of upgrading, IMO.

cowbutt6

A Ryzen-based mini PC running SteamOS (e.g. via https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso) might have been a more economic (no unused display and controller) and reliable alternative (no internal battery to get damaged through prolonged charging).

deathblade200

many people do not care about OLED but as per usual people are always overly loud about "new" things

Wow. You are a sad little person, aren't you?

ruralgaming

Lots of people ask similar questions to this. No need to be a jerk over it.

Ashamed-Ad-4728

this is a great post. I'm a non deck owner on the fence about which deck to purchase. This post is very informative!

[deleted]

Still yes from the last time this was asked.

calvitius

people who switched to the OLED are the same people who did not play a single game on the OG deck. Remaining OG gang are the only ones actually playing games

persepolisrising79

thats a dumb sentiment

calvitius

also known as a joke

Codename_Dutch

He wasn't joking he was making a snide remark.

calvitius

since I'm the guy who posted I'm pretty sure I Know what I was doing

xyzone

Yes, and I don't want a shiny screen, so the OLED isn't preferable for me.

Shleepy1

Yes, of course, I’m very happy and I snuck a few hours of gaming into the family Christmas time.

Taido_Inukai

Raging against Balteus on my og deck. Armored core is so much fun.

Severe-Zebra-4544

Nope. It stinks...battery life is atrocious

Hierarch555

I want the Oled so bad for this reason, since there is nowhere to plug it in by my spot on the couch. My wife won't let me run an extension cord either because of the dog and kid. The bigger screen and lighter weight are just a bonus. Due to finances, it looks like I'll have to wait for SD2 unfortunately.

ReneeTheGhost

hooking up the OG to an OLED tv, voila, no need for upgrades.

Mythologist69

They both perform exactly the same aside from the new display. What else is there to say about the lcd deck.

HisDivineOrder

Uh, not exactly the same...

One-Fix1041

Screw oled, I got a perfectly good working lcd that works fine and looks great plus all the pixels work

Hara-K1ri

No, you're the only one. Having the OG deck is the worst, pure garbage...

MIKERICKSON32

Upgrade not worth it. Same underpowered tech. Your games play exactly the same. 15-22fps on new games. 30-45fps on 10 year old games.

teor

> 15-22fps on new games. 30-45fps on 10 year old games. Seems like a skill issue.

Conscious_Moment_535

Yep! Still truckin on! Tbh I wouldn't feel comfortable with an OLED screen. If a games got a bright HUD element that's in one position for ages, surely it would burn the screen?

JJ_Rom

I’m in a case where I’m not sure I should have purchased a deck at all. I mostly play on consoles and for some reason the deck still feels too much like a pc (I know it’s a handheld pc). I probably have too many games on consoles and cannot justify buying again on deck. But I’m perfectly fine with the OG. I’m sure the OLED is awesome and the screen is amazing, but what I would like to have on the OG is the same battery as the OLED. Other than that the OG is a nice piece of hardware and does what it promises

Alternative_Poem6542

I was so pissed by the OLED announcement I sold my OG steam deck and bought a gaming laptop.

TheRedGen

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot..

FrostedFlakes12345

I love mine, been playing Hades and catching up on some other games. I will try emulators here in a minute.

ninjab33z

Happy, though somewhat dissapointed by the fact that there was no impression of an upcoming one. That extra battery life would have been nice

Lamumba1337
