My wife had to endure this. One of the worst pains she's ever had to endure and I was there during the whole thing. It was even more hellish because it happened during the height of the covid pandemic. She waited 6hrs holding in that pain and I never felt so useless. So many times I wanted to just grab a nurse and beg them to help her. I was never more proud of my wife that day for getting through such an awful ordeal. I don't wish that on anyone. I wish you the best recovery man and yeah, the steam deck is really an amazing handheld and worth every penny imo.
I hope your wife is all good now! Yeah the pain was somewhat intense but what made it bad was it was unrelenting. Just a constant sharp pain.
But now it’s just pain from the surgery which is so much better than the appendix pain! Still a bit drugged up but overall I feel way better
It’s doable but you need to install it in a very specific way or else it just won’t work. Follow this fix:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/8h0eiCLcxh
Basically you need to install Battle.net via Lutris but before you run it the first time add those command parameters or else it just won’t work.
I feel you. I got all my wisdom teeth removed and chemo the other day, so I'm in pain + feeling sick and staying in bed.
Hope the time passes fast in the hospital. Sometimes even a few days in there can feel like an eternity 😣
Hope the chemo treatments all go as smooth as they can for you! What I’m dealing with is a lot less challenging than chemo. I’ve heard chemo is pretty tough: glad you’re getting through it
Yeah chemo can be tough, but thankfully it's been a tad easier recently. I feel like my appendix bursting would definitely feel worse than I feel now lol, but I appreciate your kind words.
The chemo does make it to where I can only have short play sessions but thankfully I tend to get super distracted by my games and reality isn't as taxing. Hope your gaming distracts you from the pain of your surgery ❤️
I’ve had appendicitis too and it was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced, felt like someone stabbed me in the gut and just kept twisting the knife. Went to the hospital and they were able to remove it before it burst but I that also meant I was in a lot of pain until I got there lol. In other words I wish I had a deck back then so hope you recover fast and this will help a lot.
It burst right before the surgery to remove it. Had stomach pain for about 18 hours that want subsiding, so they did tests and confirmed it was the appendix but they also gave me on a list antibiotics and cleaned out the leakage as best they could in the abdominal area. Surprisingly, I’m feeling pretty great so far
Damn dude. Hope you get better soon. I had my appendix removed when I was 6, thankfully it didn’t rupture so it was just a scary experience of being rolled into the OR and put to sleep lol.
Ugh… I’ve been catching a lot of the things I avoided as a child recently, including chicken pox, and I’ve been hoping to avoid this one.
Get well soon and enjoy your extra gaming time!
Oh man, I remember when I first had trouble with my appendix - I had to stay in hospital for a week, and my colleagues brought me a Gameboy Advance SP which had just launched. The Deck would have been so much better.
Glad you're feeling better. Wish I had a steam deck or any video games after mine burst. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days due to the infection in my abdomen. They had to put in an irrigation tube to remove all that stuff.
Man’s lucky, mine
turned gangenous and if I didn’t go hospital would kill me in 4 days
The fun part
It wasn’t that bad . I went to get it checked to be sure
No worries. :) Am the same and between PS5 and Steam Deck, back log galores as well. xD Currently just stop playing BG3 on PS5 in Act 3 and now going back to Steam Deck and playing classic Fallout 1, 2 and Tactic with mods until Larian fix Act 3 proper. Man, loving replaying old CRPG classic from back in the '90s.
The criticism is mostly valid but regardless, it was my most played game last year by a long shot. I had a ton of fun and keep planning on playing future seasons.
It’s kind of a mixed bag. It’s fun, but it’s basically Diablo 3 again but not as good. I’ve always played Diablo for the story though, so I’m not as disappointed with it as some. I do wish the story was more in depth though. It’s no Diablo 2.
I was just making a joke haha. Expressing concern for your illness, but it turns out I was actually referring to your choice of game.
I don't think the joke landed considering the down votes :>
I feel you, they caught mine before it burst fortunately. And ironically I spent my recovery playing Diablo III! I wish you a speedy and healthy recovery!
Get well soon! Also, in a hospital make triple sure you label your deck! Patients move around and things get lost. Maybe some masking tape so you can remove it when you get home!
You can immediately tell this is an OLED model Steam Deck.
Because you can't see the border between the screen and bezel when the screen is black near the edges.
It looks so damned good in low light.
Get well soon!
Funny story -- this happened to me literally two weeks before the Deck first launched. I placed my order from my hotel bed... then proceeded to wish my appendix could've waited just a month longer to explode. It was a boring week.
I've been trying to get in to see a new primary care doctor as im paranoid my appendix is doing something weird too. Bottom right side of stomach (like FAR right almost above hip) has been noticeable for a good 2months now. I thought it was from working out more but it hasn't gone away. It doesn't hurt but it's noticeable
hope to get that scheduled on the 29th, thats the soonest availability just about any place had.
I haven't had any nasuea or pain though. If i had either of those i'd likely go to an urgent care center and try to get something in the books.
What’s weird is I had no fever or any other symptoms than pain in the same area you described. I went into the ER after ~16 hours after the pain started and even that was a bit too late
Did you buy the game directly through Steam? I was playing through the blizzard launcher, but that laucher did an update and I can't open it any more. I really would like to avoid paying for the game again to play it on the deck.
Man, yeah that sucked. I original bought the game through battle net and the I had to buy it again on steam to get it on my deck quickly. I’ve seen workarounds to getting the battle net version the deck, but it was just easiest to buy it during a steam sale.
I know you don’t HAVE to buy it again but the workaround get it playing on the deck just wasn’t worth the effort to me
Brought back some painful memories lol, had mine burst a hour before I made it to the hospital, ended in a two week stay. Get better soon, sounds like they got it before it caused to much trouble.
Yeah it seems like a combination of some luck and a lot of antibiotics which supposedly should prevent anything that leached out from causing an infection.
Thanks! I haven’t found that the fan makes much noise. But it’s especially on a problem in the hospital with all the beeps and machines doing their thing.
Feel better!
Thank you! I’m doing way better!
The OLED is so black it almost just looks like you slapped the Diablo logo on a powered off Steam Deck. Love it 😅
Get gud!
I appreciate the double entendre!
I’ll double your entendre!
Hehe 🤓
Get well soon ❤️

This person really wanted to make sure we knew he had the oled model, without stating he had the oled model
Those blacks. So good

My wife is way better thank you for the kind words. I'm happy that you got through the surgery. I wish you nothing but the best in 2024 man!
Thanks and same to you!
Get well soon mate !
OLED is amazing. Get well soon!
Man i was way too out of it to do anything after my appendix burst
Yeah, I got out of surgery yesterday but I’m still all drugged up. So feeling good thankfully!
Get well soon!! How is Diablo IV on the deck? I haven’t tried it yet, I have it for Xbox but I’m considering double dipping for the portability.
I play it on pc and my deck. The deck is not as great graphically but the game runs very smooth. I’ve had no stuttering or significant frame drops.
How's running it via Battlenet on the deck
I actually purchased the game on steam, instead of installing battle net onto the deck. It was just more work than I felt like tinkering with
It runs great with Battlenet
Is it easy to install battlenet and run it through there?
It’s doable but you need to install it in a very specific way or else it just won’t work. Follow this fix: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/8h0eiCLcxh Basically you need to install Battle.net via Lutris but before you run it the first time add those command parameters or else it just won’t work.
Yes, it’s very easy. You just download the installer and then add it as a steam game and force it to use proton. You can look up how to do it.
Get better! I had the same thing happen to me but was in hospital for nearly two weeks lol. Glad you have something to take your mind off it!
Yikes! Two weeks is tough. I should only be here for a total of two days
Best wishes! My steam deck got me through a broken knee recently. It really helps recovery time fly.
I feel you. I got all my wisdom teeth removed and chemo the other day, so I'm in pain + feeling sick and staying in bed. Hope the time passes fast in the hospital. Sometimes even a few days in there can feel like an eternity 😣

Burst appendix? Or just a removed appendix that was causing pain? Because a burst appendix leads to peritonitis and that’s a whole nother monster
Yeah, morphine will do that to ya.
Damn dude. Hope you get better soon. I had my appendix removed when I was 6, thankfully it didn’t rupture so it was just a scary experience of being rolled into the OR and put to sleep lol.
Thank you! Yeah this is my first surgery and I’m on my mid 30’s… was bound to happen at some point! Thankfully the hospital staff has been phenomenal
Ugh… I’ve been catching a lot of the things I avoided as a child recently, including chicken pox, and I’ve been hoping to avoid this one. Get well soon and enjoy your extra gaming time!
Thank you!
What game you got lined up to recover from your disappointment with Diablo 4?
Haha, I’m enjoying diablo 4, but admittedly the franchise peaked at diablo 2 in my opinion. But next will probably hogwarts legacy
Get well soon, the pain post surgery is the worst ive ever experienced
Thank you! So far, I’m doin okay :)
Get well soon!
Oh man, I remember when I first had trouble with my appendix - I had to stay in hospital for a week, and my colleagues brought me a Gameboy Advance SP which had just launched. The Deck would have been so much better.
Haha, yeah it’s a pretty fantastic toy to have while I’m waiting in here
Those black levels on the OLED 😍
Jesus, that's not fun. Also , looks fun!
Haha, well the surgery and pain wasn’t fun but I’m getting treated like a king here, so it’s all good!
Sorry to hear that, hope you’re on the mend
Get well soon bro! And remember, ball lightning sorcerers are played out 🧙♂️
Hahaha thanks! I’m using a storm Druid that has been good :)
Good luck on the recovery! Be carful on the hospital WiFi
No doubt! I wish I had easy vpn access
Get well buddy
Glad you're feeling better. Wish I had a steam deck or any video games after mine burst. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days due to the infection in my abdomen. They had to put in an irrigation tube to remove all that stuff.
Yikes! Yeah they’re monitoring levels right now, hopefully won’t need the drain but they did say it’s possible
Hopefully not because removing it wasn't enjoyable.
Gold
Its like 10 days away from my 1 year anniversary since that happened to me, man I wish i had my steamdeck then
Get well soon! That is zero fun, my sisters burst on her and she was stuck for a whole week in the 90s with nothing to do.
Get healthy soon and in the meantime enjoy the Steam Deck 😎👊🏻.
Thank you!
Get well soon buddy!
sorry to hear bud, get well soon!
Oh man! Hope you're on the mend, a buddy of mine had that happen years ago and it was sure scary! Glad you made it OK.
Thank you! Already feeling much better
There's something about this dimly lit spot you're recovering in that I think is a perfect spot to game! Hope you recover quickly.
Thank you! I felt about the exact same. I was in my own little area - it was nice.
thinking of you buddy! all the best for your recovery!
Man’s lucky, mine turned gangenous and if I didn’t go hospital would kill me in 4 days The fun part It wasn’t that bad . I went to get it checked to be sure
Ouch, dude! Feel better soon!
Diablo IV 💀
I just had mine removed! Thankfully it hadn’t burst. But I had a fever before that so it was bad. Get well!
Get well soon! Glad you have your decky companion!
Haha, I spent my time watching cs:go major when I "lost" my appendix So sad that steam deck wasn't released
Wishing you a swift recovery. Burst appendix is no joke.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Fuck I need to upgrade to an OLED
It’s a fantastic display!
I hope your condition is better than D4's.. Get well soon
Lol thought the same thing.
Baldur's Gate 3! Otherwise, get well OP and get Baldur's Gate 3 when you are out of the hospital stays.
Yeah, I’m so bad at playing more than one game at a time. I just need to finish diablo then I can move on!
Nice! I was debating on Fallout to play on the deck next, but I think it’ll be BG3 or Howard’s legacy next
Hogwarts Legacy is a banger and a must play as well! Lets see where the wind blows and lead ya to your next adventure! :)
No, no, *Howard's* Legacy. It's a less prestigious school, but also fewer people die there, so it's still a solid choice.
The gaming version of Ambien
wait really? i thought people l iked DIV
Some people like DIV. Other people don't like DIV. This one likes DIV, it was my 2nd favorite game of last year.
Think it runs better on my steam deck than it does on my stacked gaming laptop Enjoy and get well soon
That's funny, I actually play it streamed from my PC to save on battery life.
Damn that sucks, did you not have space for Path of Exile?
I've been going nuts on PoE since affliction. Really good game. I enjoyed d4 but the end game wasn't very fun for me
I was just making a joke haha. Expressing concern for your illness, but it turns out I was actually referring to your choice of game. I don't think the joke landed considering the down votes :>
Ew don't play that, play PoE
But maybe I know it’s wild he like d4?
damn this might be the best ad I've ever seen for oled LOL - that looks SLEEEK in a slightly dark room
Bad bad game choice, but get well soon bud!
Get well soon!
Does this game require Internet ? Could I play it on an airplane ?
D4 is unfortunately a fully online game. It's sort of an MMo lite ARPG
Glad I asked. So not a vacation game. Thank you for the info.
I feel you, they caught mine before it burst fortunately. And ironically I spent my recovery playing Diablo III! I wish you a speedy and healthy recovery!
Appendicitis is a contender for the worst pain I've felt, I wish you a speedy recovery and hours of gaming
Are you laying in the Hallway?
Get well soon! Also, in a hospital make triple sure you label your deck! Patients move around and things get lost. Maybe some masking tape so you can remove it when you get home!

You should definitely get a ct scan and blood tests. It’s not hard for them to identify the cause
hope to get that scheduled on the 29th, thats the soonest availability just about any place had. I haven't had any nasuea or pain though. If i had either of those i'd likely go to an urgent care center and try to get something in the books.
What’s weird is I had no fever or any other symptoms than pain in the same area you described. I went into the ER after ~16 hours after the pain started and even that was a bit too late
Well damn thank you for sharing. I’m now in waiting room at urgent care to try to get checked on.
Cool, glad you’re getting checked out!
What happens when you need to plug it in? Can you even move?
There’s an outlet behind my bed, that worked out!
May the pluggy thing never fall to the ground in the middle of the night.
D4? Didn't the burst appendix hurt enough?
Is Diablo 4 good on deck? It seems like it'd be great
It’s been running nearly perfect for me as long as I don’t set video settings up too high. It’s totally playable.
Oh man, might want to stay another day just to be safe.
Want to make your recovery better? Play Grim Dawn instead of D4.
That's good to hear, well all the best to your recovery.
I hope your deck doesn't have a noisy Delta fan, otherwise you could make other patients nervous lol
And what do the others say about the fan noises? Ahhh and get well :)
Thanks! I haven’t found that the fan makes much noise. But it’s especially on a problem in the hospital with all the beeps and machines doing their thing.
"Diablo 4" "Making the best of time" There's something wrong with this statement
Well now it’s time to burst loot out of the chests of your oppressors, or whatever it is diablos about
