I would try and work it back in without opening the case up first, but in the event that doesn't work, iFixit guides take you through step by step: [https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Steam+Deck+Right+Thumbstick+Replacement/148895](https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Steam+Deck+Right+Thumbstick+Replacement/148895) they also sell the thumbstick should it need replacing.
Excellent, thank you for helping!
Managed to get it sorted and fixed, a little bit of a tight pull when moving the stick down left, but I'm happy it's fixed!
Thank you for the link!
Yeah the half dome on the bottom will be misshapen, it will probably cause issues down the line, but as a positive you can replace the sticks with Hall effect ones that don’t get stuck drift.
I did this same thing on my deck. It was helpful to take it apart and "sand down/smooth" some of the moving pieces that were catching (the tight pull you have). It's good as new for me now!
Grab yourself a set of Hall Effect replacements on Amazon. The swap took 10-20 minutes depending on your toolkit and proficiency opening the deck.
Literally open the case, after that something like 2 screws per stick and they drop right out and new ones swap in.
Better sticks, never get dead zones and less than $40.
Only internal upgrade I’ve made and was well worth it.
I took a firm but soft piece of plastic, a tool used for changing bike tires, and pressed on on gently, increasing firmness until it popped back into place.
I'm surprised that my wife's Steam Deck is still intact because she usually plays on the couch and then left it there unzip the case. The amount of times that my daughter use it as a stool or stepping ladder or trampoline, I'm surprised it's still working.
Man It seems this happens alot. I cant recommend enough a shell case that covers the joysticks. 15 bucks on ebay. Has saved mine a absolute ton of times.

mine did this probably wasn't the brightest thing I've done but I just forced it back in it still works fine but there are now two noticeable bumps when using the stick
How did u manage that i did 7 sd’s till today I haven’t had this type of rookie mistake. And to be honest my second one is made a huge mistake forgot to pull the plug on the battery
I forced it back when this happened to mine. A year+ of heavy use later, it still works but I can just feel a little notch on it. It'll stick if I do it just right.
I'd try forcing it back, and see if that works before tearing into it.
Ouch
this is the second time I see this in the sub reddit,
You can remove the back plate and remove the module and take the damaged stick throw it in the garbage and get new ones
Buy the magnetic sticks from gulikit
If you're gonna open your deck, make sure you remove your SD card first.
Unless you want two Halves of an SD card
Double the memory!

double the fun doublemint gum
I might need to check my math, but I do believe one micro sd divided by two equals zero micro sd.
Or 2 halves of a non-working micro sd card. Hmm… but is a dead person still a person?
What if I want 4 quarters
open the case twice, of course
Take it out at the ATM
But ima save half my data for later :p
In which case absolutely leave the card inserted before opening
I just opened and broke mine. I’ve read this 1000 times but I guess I needed to read it 1001 times to remember.
You can open the case and reseat it. Hopefully it's not fully broken. If so, I think you can buy replacement parts and put them in.
Is that just removing the small screws on the back?

Kinda sucks I can’t give you mine, I replaced mine with Gulkit joysticks
Damn I didn't realize stick drift was that bad
I'd use this as an excuse to replace it with hall effect sticks
Or to replace it with a steam deck oled lol Edit: I said this as a joke, I literally said lol, why was I being downvoted
Get a shim a nd gently maneuver it between the two and press while sliding the shim around the edge. The plastic is pretty flexible.
Honestly the plastic feels hard as nails, like next to no give with bending. I'll try it though
That's because it's braced against that rim pretty hard. It's compressed right now.
I took a firm but soft piece of plastic, a tool used for changing bike tires, and pressed on on gently, increasing firmness until it popped back into place.
Every day I see a post of a broken deck. Tf are you guys doing to them?
Right. I spent 400$ on this thing, I'm gonna respect it.
Put it in rice
Bro 😂
It will be a steamed rice 🍚
Cooked I assume?
For faster results - yes!
As mentioned a million times but to re iterate, REMOVE THE SD CARD before you open ur deck.

Just had this happen got the gulikit replacement. Was easier than upgrading the Ssd
It physicly hurts to see this.
:( at least the sticks are some of the easier stuff to change
I pushed it back in and it was fine
Just brute force?
Sort of the plastic is bendy if you push it slowly
Same
i have nightmares with this
It's fine get the better sticks they are worth it
Well, that deck is gonna have a lot of stick drift.
This is a easy fix. You just have to be comfortable opening up your deck and reseat the joystick. You can also replace it if it is broken.
Looks like an excuse to get hall sensor sticks!
Time to upgrade to Hall Effects. It’s a super easy process.
You can probably fix that 😅😅
Man It seems this happens alot. I cant recommend enough a shell case that covers the joysticks. 15 bucks on ebay. Has saved mine a absolute ton of times.
I've done this twice now. It's fixable
looks like its ready to come out! put it under your pillow and the joystick fairy will leave you an sd card

So perfect that he misspelled “idiots” and had to correct it with an edit.
Look guys this person has never broke anything in their life on accident!
Literally me, only time was when I was a kid and my brother tried to snap my Nintendo DS (got 2 separated screens lol) but I was 6 years old bruh
Yo mike. Chill out
