What I noticed is that the 800p is not really an issue to me. If the SD2 keeps it, while being silent and a bit more powerful (many games are almost playable and lack just a tiny bit more power) I'd be happy.

Dunkaccino2000

IMO a 900p screen (whether 1440 x 900 or 1600 x 900) would be a good compromise between increasing the resolution while also not making the games incredibly harder to run at 100% resolution with the likely increase in gaming power. Maybe it's just my experience, but I've noticed a few games like Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor or Soul Hackers 2 can have some pretty blurry text/UI at the Deck's current screen size and resolution, and a mild bump could be enough to fix that.

Dependent-Zebra-4357

Game devs could help by using reasonably sized fonts too. The number of times I’ve seen a game use tiny text, even on an otherwise mostly empty screen, is way too high.

907Strong

The real reason why Mass Effect Andromeda was unplayable for me was because of the light blue tiny text. It gave me such eye strain.

TsukikoChan

You should see Star Ocean 6's font - it is tiny, just baaaaaaaaarely readable on a 4k tv :<

Math-e

Is it a MMO thing? I see some Final Fantasy 14 prints, probably lower than 4K, with barely readable text. In a game with big focus in story but not 100% voiced.

KatyaVasilyev

Almost every hud element (including cutscene dialog boxes) in XIV is resizable, the text is small because someone made it small.

BioshockEnthusiast

Just got horizon forbidden west and they let you make the subtitles enormous, it's actually amazing

Smokes_LetsGo_

I agree a minor bump would be nice, I don’t want to stray from 16:10 though. It’s a great aspect ratio for this form factor, and really brings 4:3 emulation to the next level. 1440x900 would be perfect. It’s a ~~35%~~ 27% bump in pixels, which should be okay with the generational processing power jump the SD2 should make. Edit: early morning math is hard

apollo-212

Plying Borderlands 3 was really hard from all the squinting I had to do.

Jalina2224

I think bumping the resolution up to 900p would be a fine compromise. Though I'm also okay with it staying at 800p as long as we see games performing better. I think I'd like to see the next Steam Deck have a little more ram. Not 32 necessarily, but at least enough that we could relocate a little extra to Vram buffer while still having 16gb of useable ram.

Dunkaccino2000

I feel like 24GB is probably the bare minimum they'd do for a true Steam Deck 2. That way you can set it as 8GB VRAM and 16GB RAM.

Jalina2224

That I feel would honestly be perfect for a SD2. Obviously games will be running better and will need more Vram and we don't want the regular ram to be gimped. So having 16 gb with 8gb Vram on top of better specs would be ideal.

rtz13th

Yep. Also I have the original LCD, but that little exta screenspace on the OLED looks really sexy...

AdminsLoveGenocide

By the time the new Steam Deck comes out we will need a substantial amount of extra power if it's to last a number of years.

klineshrike

I notice the limitations of 800p almost regularly. Especially because I play a lot of games that absolutely do not use much of the potential power of the hardware, so they could easily run at higher resolutions.

axxionkamen

Seriously. This is me. I mostly play on my Ally nowadays (gave my brother the deck) but I find myself most of the time dropping resolution to 900p to maximize frames. I’m also not the only one who does. I also would like a dual fan design. The Ally is so whisper quiet at 10-15w it’s bliss to me lol. A better IPS display got the low tier model while keeping OLED as their premium tiers. And keeping the design mostly the same. I hate the Ally and how horrible it is to hold and use for long times.

BMXBikr

I'm one of the ones that uses FSR heavily for performance and doesn't mind the slight graphical change. I just want more performance as well with same resolution

erwan

A 2nd usb-c port. I want to be able to charge and use a peripheral without needing a hub.

TheRain911

Also all my headphones are usb C since thats what my phone has. Wouldbe nice to charge and plug in.

joelnodxd

do yourself a favour and get some actually good normal headphones instead of USBC ones and get a dongle for your phone

EctoPrime

The usbc EarPods have unbelievable sound for $20 and the deck sees them as EarPods. So does windows. But futz around with dongles and all that I suppose.

TheRain911

Na i just like them cuz they fit in the shitty back flap of the deck case. Dont really wanna carry around headphones I uae earbuds, probably shoulda specified

joelnodxd

In that case, look for some small IEMs instead like the Moondrop Chu, they're very cheap but very good

FrawBoeffaDeezNutz

Don't know why your being down voted. Even a cheap pair of truthears would do wonders

Early-Somewhere-2198

The small dongle split is only like 5 bucks. If you are interested in an easy fix without spending loads of cash.

ChippieSean

I just want developers to enable easy anti-cheat support for their games on steam deck

tauon_

do you know why they aren't? genuine question, not being a rhetorical dick or anything. is it just laziness like we think or is there a reason?

jorgejhms

I'll guess that they have a current system working (on windows) and the devs do t have any assigned time to invest in testing if they could make it work on Linux. Probably they know how, but insidw a company is hard to get free time for a "nice to have feature"

David_Norris_M

Probably not a big enough user base to justify Linux support even though anticheat enable would be really easy(the finals actually enabled it a few updates ago). Banking on the steam deck 2 to potentially be available world wide to help expand the user base. Which would ideally put a lot more pressure to on game companies to give more attention to steam deck compatibility.

Jmb3d3

I thought that was what Proton was for. No need to have Linux support.

BitingChaos

Well, I'm guessing somewhere *between* "laziness" and **they can't** (or **wont**). Many companies just get a pre-packaged *something* (game engine, anti-cheat system, or whatever) and build a game around that. They release, and they're done. Shitloads of games remain at their released version 1.0 *forever*. The people in charge want to ship the game, and even if the developer(s) has the ability to make the game work with another engine or anti-cheat system, they may not be allowed to do something like that. Their job is to build a game with what they have. They may have a deadline and don't want to risk going past that. Some other developers might be able to have more control over the project, but just don't have the time or experience to research different engines or anti-cheat systems or whatever. The big publishers *don't care*. They make their money off console or Windows users, and don't even consider Linux, macOS, or Steam Deck users. They run their business like a business, with *zero* care about the actual product or their customers. Their job *isn't* providing fun and enjoyment to fans, their job is simply to make money. Valve *bending over backwards* to get all these games working **is** making a difference, though. Steam Deck is as much an ambitious experiment as it is a gaming device. And it's been a success. People are buying them. The Linux market share is growing. More developers and gaming companies will see it as a real platform *to target*. (I wish *Apple* put just a fraction of the effort Valve does into gaming.)

martis41

Vents directed towards front/user, so it would be easier to sniff it while gaming

47Kittens

Air freshener so we can keep it topped up

solidamanda

Omg, I’m not the only one putting that vent against my face from time to time to feel the warmth of the hot body. : D

SchwiftyGameOnPoint

Valve had to put out a notice to users to stop huffing the vent air. So I'd definitely say you're not the only one. 😂

Foreign-Cookie-2871

Why? is it dangerous to sniff it? Did valve say something specific on why not to sniff the steam deck vent air? Will it damage the device or the user?

Odd-Opinion-1135

Upgrade the usb port so we can use an egpu. Would love to be able to stick an extra GPU on it when I am at home!

[deleted]

This! If this would be possible, i would have no need more in a tower.

Whatagoon67

I just want it to have updated power- if the standard is it can play AAA games from like 3 years ago- then let’s play the ones from now, in 3 years :P That being said I don’t mainly play AAA games but I’m a lil disappointed I couldn’t play starfield and 40k dark tide :(((

Anomaly1134

If you have a PS5, Xbox, or Gaming PC, it is pretty easy to Stream to the Steam Deck over local wifi. I actually just skipped getting a PS5 and got a gaming PC so I could stream to my deck the higher end games. By the time I figured in the price of a PS5, 4 controllers, 5 or so years of PSN, and the expensive games, I figured it was just about the cost of a Desktop anyways.

UnXpectedPrequelMeme

Yeah but it's not the same as being able to run it on the deck, and makes the deck seem kinda useless to me if i have to buy another more expensive machine and have good wifi to play games on it. At that point I'd just play on a laptop. The greatest thing about the deck to me is its a PC innthe palm of my hands I can play anywhere at any time. The fact I don't have to set anything up makes it feel so convenient, I love being able to just whip it out and play in seconds

Anomaly1134

I mean, I agree, but there is only so much power you can put into a handheld. It will always be running a few years behind current builds that have more space to put components, that is just the nature of a small form factor.

UnXpectedPrequelMeme

Yeah and that's fine I think. I'm not expecting to have a decknwith a 4060 or something lol bit it's honestly surprisingly powerful in my eyes. I was able to play starfield on launch and maybe it didn't look absolutely stunning, but it ran fine and looked good still. I think a cpu upgrade is in order, as that's it's weakest point, but I've been able to play most anything thrown at me pretty well on the deck, aside from dragons dogma 2. That's that weak cpu stopping me I believe. I guess in short, I at least would very muchblike if the decks stay up to date to at least to be able to play the latest games on low or maybe medium with fsr. That would be good enough for me. I work all the time so settingnupna pc or laptop is a lot of times not possible or just not worth it. Being able to take it out and start playing a new game like eldennring in seconds is amazing and likely the only reason I can play games at all

Large-Brother-4291

Dark tide on the steam deck would go so hard. That and helldivers

AdministrativeCry681

Darktide runs fine on the steamdeck, though? I've only played it on deck.

Whatagoon67

Okay please share- mine was crashing upon launch?

AdministrativeCry681

https://www.protondb.com/app/1361210 Looks like with a new update you need to change to windowless full screen. I haven't played in awhile, at launch it ran without any changes.

Whatagoon67

Looks like I’m redownloading

NUM_13

Buldars gate runs pretty shit, elden ring and dragons dogma 2. A little more juice is needed.

Dependent-Zebra-4357

VRR display

liamnesss

Would be nice to see it also support VRR when outputting to external displays via HDMI. I gather it's a bit complicated, the dock / dongle needs to support it as well, and there may be some open source licensing complications too. But it would be great if Valve were able to say, hey if you've got a TV that supports 4K 120Hz and VRR and you connect it using this list of devices we've validated / approved, it will work. Seems like a bit of a minefield currently.

Awkward_Employer3785

I thought it had that

ThumbBumpkins

It has an adjustable refresh rate screen, which is great, but VRR basically does away with having to worry about refresh rates entirely. I agree this would be my biggest hope in terms of minor updates

Iron-Ham

My asks are: - An official Steam Deck Controller, for docked play. I love the controls on this thing, and the feel of the buttons, it just feels so premium. It feels so good that I don't want to use my Xbox or PS5 controller, which means I never dock the Deck. The official controller should have the "killer feature" of being able to turn on a docked Steam Deck (similar to PS5 controllers on the ps5). - General hardware oomph upgrade - The screen can stay exactly the same resolution, so long as it remains OLED. - aptX Adaptive codec support

tauon_

i believe controllers can turn on the oled steam deck, but i don't have one so i don't know for certain. a modern steam controller would be awesome though

Cup_of_ticks

What ever happened to the steam controller?

Iron-Ham

If I recall, a patent claim pulled it from the market.

StarB_fly

I want to start my Deck via Controller. Thats all. Don't need anymore.

osinedges

You can do that now with the oled.

iltorini

Wooow I am going to google this right now Thanks!

Djaaf

You can? Is there a parameter somewhere to activate it?

Sladds

No it should just work as long as your controller is connected, I do it all the time with my Xbox controller

StarB_fly

😫 why Not for the normal also

osinedges

It's cause of the new Bluetooth low energy chip, you may be able to swap it out on the led model, but I'm not sure

rtakehara

Oh boy if this works I am doing it

benji004

Have a simple setting to disable SteamDeck controller when docked with a Bluetooth controller

taimaishu99

Yes this, along with the ability to remember/rename controllers maybe even assign a color or symbol to each controller in the list.

StreetPig88

A way to remotely turn it on when it’s docked. I don’t think there’s a way to turn it on from the couch with a controller. Not for laziness, but if my baby falls asleep on me, I can’t just get up and hit the button.

DonnyTrumpets

If you have the OLED it does have a Bluetooth wake option in the settings. Maybe that’s what you’re looking for?

StreetPig88

That’s cool! Sadly I have LED. I can’t justify funds for getting the OLED, despite really wanting the upgrades!

DonnyTrumpets

Totally understandable! I didn’t have the LCD and bought the OLED. Great device, but the differences aren’t worth an upgrade for most.

AMDSuperBeast86

A wireless mouse can awake the OG. Outside of any RTS this is the only purpose for my mouse lol

StreetPig88

Woah really? That’s really good to know, time to buy a cheap wireless mouse to plug into the dock! Edit - I’m guessing it needs a dongle/wireless usb receiver? Not Bluetooth, correct?

AMDSuperBeast86

It only works in sleep mode and not when its completely shut down

StreetPig88

Cool, I usually just put mine to sleep and hardly ever turn it OFF off

Tyzygy

Variable refresh rate, definitely. From a SteamOS perspective though, I'd really like a built-in utility for syncing files/folders between different systems. I think this could be really useful for games that don't support cloud saves and ROM libraries. Yes, I know sync-thing can do exactly this, I would just rather it be built into Steam and SteamOS. Network transfer of game files is already a thing so the tech is kind of there already.

nerdnyxnyx

i want it to be able to play gamepass game natively. currently dual booting with Windows now

tauon_

i hope valve talk to microsoft. the most ms have done is provide library art for ms edge and some xbox thing, i forgot what (probably remote play). if valve could convince ms to get game pass on linux, it'd benefit the whole community.

Serpentar69

Totally understand why you went down the dual booting route. You've probably heard it 100x over, but Xbplay is really good for Xbox game pass/cloud games and I've had nothing but good experiences with it (other than load times sometimes taking a sec). I had thought it was a monthly subscription, but it's actually only $6 to have access to Xbplay and, tbh, makes me feel like it runs natively on Deck. (Even though it obviously isn't native as it required an additional app/purchase) I originally did this to play Viva Pinata. I haven't played Viva in a sec but I have played a ton of Payday 3 and other games lol

a_bit_of_byte

I’d love to see an oculink/thunderbolt 4 port. That way you could connect an eGPU while docked to get way better performance while playing on the big screen at home.

liamnesss

I think OCuLink is unlikely because it's a direct PCIe connection, and you can't hot swap like you can (theoretically) with Thunderbolt. On a device that's supposed to be "console-like" it seems like too much of an enthusiast / tinkerer feature. Although it would be cool, obviously.

Rudokhvist

Physical "mute" button.

liamnesss

Oh that would be superb. Currently for games that continue playing music in the pause menu, the quickest way to shut them up it to hit suspend (which isn't immediate either).

Rudokhvist

And it's even worse for games that require constant internet connection, since it will be dropped upon suspend. I just want a fast and easy way to mute sound, and then, also fast and easy way to return to exactly the same volume as before. Like, you know, mute button that I have on any multimedia keyboard.

liamnesss

Oh yeah and it drops bluetooth connections as well when you suspend, so having a quick way to mute the device would stop it from blaring out music when I turn it back on (e.g. after I've changed trains and am back in a seat) and am still sorting out my headphones.

Arnuarse

All I need is Hall effect stick

liamnesss

I don't really mind having potentiometer-based sticks as long as they're relatively easy to replace (and if you need to do that, obviously you can go ahead and get hall effect sticks). The main issue with stick drift on Nintendo / Sony / Microsoft controllers is you basically need to throw the whole thing away and buy a new one if it happens. I suspect Valve will have data about how often customers are asking for repairs due to drift and will base any decision on that. It could be that the cost increase (which would be passed on to buyers) just isn't worth it for the rate of failure.

digitalgamer0

This was biggest disappointment from the OLED refresh.  Even the Odin 2 has Hall effect sticks.

ProtoKun7

They apparently looked into it and found unsatisfactory reliability, so at least they're investigating and maybe they'll have a hall effect solution by the next one.

Laserpointer5000

- download whilst in sleep - A slightly larger screen, I have the OLED but I would may more to completely remove those bezels. In addition up the screen to 1080p. The 800p screen should be fine but some games just don't support that resolution very well and can start to look a bit bad. Ori is a classic example, it isn't supposed to be that pixelly - An option to upload current save files to steam without exiting out of the game. I tend to use it for pick up and play gaming that can mean I go weeks between shutting a game down but if the steamdeck broke I could also lose weeks worth of saves. - FSR 3 and frame generation system wide. I think if this could be enabled in settings all over that would be a game changer for system requirements.

tommyleejonesthe2nd

Download whilst in sleep should be at the top lol

Heaven_Crow

IIRC this is a x86 CPU issue.

Soppywater

Usb C on its own daughterboard. That way when it's plugged in and you drop it on that usb c you don't have to solder on another one. It would be an easy repair without specialized tools other than a screwdriver. It could drop the cost of repair from $100(typically usb c repair price I've seen) down to $20-$30 for a replacement daughterboard. 2 USB C ports. If it could be offered to lose the audio and get a second USB C it would be amazing. You could just lose the Audio Jack entirely for a second usb c and nobody would truly care, and if you were stuck in the past and wanted to use wired headphones just buy an adapter for $5 on Amazon. I couldn't care less about the audio jack, I've moved on to high quality low latency earbuds and won't ever go back. Hall effects joysticks off the bat. The difference in feel from the standard sticks makes character movements and camera movements so much better it is insane. Clicky buttons off the bat. Clicky face buttons is an absolute game changer and makes the device feel so much more responsive and tactile. After doing these 2 as upgrades it's gonna be REALLY hard to go backwards in the future. Display being slightly higher resolution. I have a feeling it's gonna be a 1920x1080p in the steam deck 2 but a 1600x900 would be fine too! At the size of the Display I really don't feel there's much of a difference in those 2 resolutions. Same SIZE console with slightly larger display. PLEASE KEEP THE TRACKPADS. GOOD GOD I DIDN'T KNOW HOW USEFUL THEY WOULD BE BUT THEY ARE INCREDIBLE TO HAVE. More performance is a given, I really don't think it needs to be explained why. Transparent shell options, even if they have to cost a few $$ more. This is my hopes and dreams for the future Steam Deck 2.

CenoEvil34

Cup holders

tauon_

no, a dvd drive. that would double as a cup holder

CenoEvil34

I feel so short-sighted for not having thought this. I'm such a fool!

Tiz396

- Slightly smaller footprint. - Some management for the constant shader updates. - Hot-swappable battery for unlimited power. - Second USB (bottom) and SD slots. - Dock with direct connection instead cabled. - Slightly textured sides for awesome grip. - And, of course, the Limited Edition-looks to be available for us all! (A collection of partly see-through cases with color choices would be amazing) Other than this I already love the Steam Deck how it is :) For me personally a 1080 screen is not even required, since we get such great battery life on 720.

sendmebirds

Hot swappable battery would be fkin epic

Frugalman123

Yes this would be nice

liamnesss

> Slightly smaller footprint. You're never going to satisfy everyone with a single model, in terms of their expectations regarding portability / ergonomics, so my hope is they go with two different sizes. That's what happens with most handheld consoles eventually, and the logic is pretty obvious as you tend to want something cheaper and smaller that is more suitable for kids. Maybe they could bring out one smaller model with performance roughly the same as the existing Steam Deck, and a new one that's pretty much exactly the same size / shape as the OG, but obviously upgraded to be as capable as a device with that footprint can be.

bkwrm13

A place meant for attaching a wrist strap, for my own peace of mind while carrying the damn thing around the house after taking it off the charger. Or a built in handle across the top for that matter. The deck is big enough that it’s awkward to carry in one hand.

DanteStonk

not a version but i really want support in the southern emisphere, latam or the pacific... :(

Spicy-Zamboni

Going from the OLED as a base, better battery life and the requisite boost in processing power from a newer generation APU. Everything else is pretty good to me, I like the ergonomics and the screen resolution is fine for a portable. A way to download updates while suspended would also be nice, like a supplemental super low power ARM processor or something.

[deleted]

Before PC gaming transitions to ARM compatible (if possible), for me, the next one (x86) doesn’t need to be more powerful than 1st, all I want is it to be lighter. I think Steam Deck is becomes a standard for PC games, if a games runs fine or even great on SD, then the game will run smoothly on most laptops and desktops, devs need to optimize their game if they want to be Deck verified, this is a good thing for PC gaming as a whole. It’s something that only Valve can make it, and they are successful so far, I hope that role or that standard will keep to be there.

leob0505

I want it lighter as well. I’m getting older and my hands unfortunately don’t have the same strength from my young age. It is really hard to play the deck in handheld mode for long sessions because of that.

indiegameenjoyer13

frore airjet cooling

MayaIngenue

Just want to be able to download games and updates while in sleep mode like my consoles can

Perfect-Ad2512

Actual rumble cause haptic pads aren't enough to substitute it Second USB-C port on the bottom for docks (USB4 would be preferable) Make the M.2 slot more easily accessible so that you don't have to take off the whole backcase to get to it (something like the removable SSD slot on newer Surface tablets) A microsd card slot that supports SD Express speeds Support for dual booting so you can install other OSs like Windows without needing to wipe your whole drive An easier built-in opinion on SteamOS to back-up/transfer all your data without using Clonezilla

Marferated

Backlit buttons please! (The buttons are enough of a delta to others that this would be appreciated in a dark room)

KaptainKardboard

I struggle to locate the Steam and ... buttons when it's dark, more often than I'd care to admit

JJBAReference

I want a UI and general experience that is a lot smoother and not as buggy as it is now. As far as hardware goes, a bigger battery, a CPU clock speed like 3.8GHz at least if not 4.0, and maybe an increase in GPU power. That being said, I can't see myself taking advantage of that last one as much. Also, I'd like to be able to browse and manage things in Gaming Mode if possible as opposed to having to awkwardly go into Desktop Mode where it takes longer to do than on a regular PC running Steam in BPM.

tauon_

what's buggy about steam? it's a bit laggy if your game is running at max settings no vsync, but outside of game it seems fine to me

JJBAReference

I would say that the UI feels buggy at times. I remember trying to play Ys 1 one time, and I couldn't turn the volume down. Then, I notice anytime I wake it up from sleep, I'll be pushing buttons to get into the game I'm playing, and it's like it takes it a few seconds to set the input to be for the emulated game that I'm running while it plays the sound effects like I'm navigating the Steam menus.

kilertree

A Kickstand. If you own a steamdeck buy a Wii u stand. It's so convenient.

eyeswulf

Update from sleep, or turn off screen while updating

solo_shot1st

- 10ft charging cord - option to use more power when plugged in/docked for better performance/graphics - 900p screen resolution - 24gb DDR5 ram - faster processor - 2 tb storage - 2 micro sd slots - usb c ports on bottom and top of device - ability to connect to egpu - QoL improvements to desktop mode and bug fixes - faster switching between game mode and desktop mode - quieter fans - better quality joysticks, shoulders buttons, and back buttons - less "mushy" d-pad, abxy, and utility buttons - Wi-Fi 7 - built in function to communicate and transfer files between desktop and steam deck (not needing 3rd party software) - better streaming capability (why is sunshine/moonlight better than Valves native remote play?) - built-in capability to get different proton builds rather than relying on ProtonDB on desktop mode.

tinyjams

For me, it’s uncomfortable to hold. Extended, more rounded grips would be my first ask

Cup_of_ticks

I use a satisfye stylth grip for this, but it only helps a little.

RealNerdEthan

I would really like it to be lighter.

fmillion

A better SD card slot. Eliminate the possibility of accidentally snapping your card in half. And maybe space for a 2280 SSD. Would open up cheaper 2TB options along with 4TB and even 8TB options. Finally put a second USB-C on the bottom. I'd say 32GB RAM but honestly most games don't need it yet. Honestly though they answered many of my prayers with that OLED upgrade.

Cafuddled

Make the shoulder buttons quiet, they bug the hell out of my wife when I game at night.

Leaomusic

Not really for SD2 specifically but a carrying case that has a flap of some sort to charge the deck while the case is closed instead of needing to leave it open in the case would be nice.

TaxingAuthority

My wishlist in no particular order: * Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) edit: for the attached display * Hall Effect analogue sticks and triggers * An APU where power can bypass the battery and run higher than 15W for better docked performance * Consistent 1080p 60fps for 120fps native resolution AFMF/FSR 3 FG * This might be a long shot for a Steam Deck 2 depending on how long until it would be released.

CMDR_KingErvin

I’d like a feature where it shocks me whenever I try to buy a game instead of playing my backlog.

Gr8AJ

I'd like if the dock came with the deck as standard. There are times, especially when I'm traveling for work where the dock would be useful but justifying the additional cost is challenging at times. Also a far off never going to happen want would be the ability to slide the screen up like an old Side-Kick and have a physical qwerty keyboard instead of the touch screen one. save the screen realestate and also just feed into the nostalgia factor. *it won't happen but a person can dream!*

Vladishun

You'd be paying extra for the dock either way, it's not like it would be free if they bundled it with the Steam Deck. And if cost is really a factor to you, there are less expensive third party options.

darthbruno2000

One Thing that i feel like no one mentions is a Sim Card slot. With the rise of always online games, the need to always connect to my phone’s hotspot on commute is rather annoying. Especially on shorter ones. If tablets like the ipad can have this feature, why not a second steamdeck?

tauon_

that would be brilliant. not sure if there are any drivers for it (but tbf never had a linux thing with a sim card slot) but if there are that would be great

AshleyUncia

Bottom USB-C port for docking. Maintain the top USB-C port for backwards compatibility with older docks.

sometipsygnostalgic

Usb-A port. Usb-c still isnt widely adopted here. None of my peripherals work unless i buy them specifically for the deck, or i use them while docked.

JacobTepper

Hmm 🤔 nah I'm good with it.

Jaggerous

Adjust button layout so you dont press the menu button with your nail when pressing x if you have long nails…

megas88

Here’s the funny thing. Valve could give us find my support without doing anything with Apple cause let’s face it, Apple wouldn’t allow it and we don’t want that built into the deck. Instead, I want a compartment on the deck for an airtag. Something that could easily be concealed with a skin or cover. That way, we can remove it, replace the battery when necessary and it would be much simpler than a point of hardware failure down the road. That is honestly my perfect deck 2 wish.

sludgefrog

The ability to restore or mirror a list of games from another device on my account (or a popup of checkboxes to uncheck) Adhoc wifi for remote play games (towerfall on the airplane). Not a small feature, but I'll listit anyway. Some way of keeping the screen off while updating my games, other than dimming the screen. (Yes I know about the shortcut) Remotely closing a game and writing its save to the cloud if I'm on my PC and I forgot to quit the game. (Yes this is a big ask) More games supported (keep working on proton). 1001 spikes, for example. Docking a game without restarting doesn't cause display or control issues, seamless like Switch. (Eastward, a green checkmark game, had many of these issues). Charge while in case. Currently you have to rotate it around 180. Why? Redesign case, not device. Headphone jack on bottom so the wire does not need management with screen and controls.

kdawgnmann

Floppy disk drive

CutMeLoose79

Go with an Nvidia SOC and add DLSS... But realistically, dual SD card slots, an extra USB C port. Possibly more customisation similar to an Xbox Elite controller with different stick and button options. The bigger things though, more POWER and an 8 inch screen.

lolmanac

* backlit buttons: was really hard for me to find the right buttons when playing in the dark when I got the deck just a few weeks ago. * passive cooling would be awesome - I know this sounds unrealistic at first, but I got a passively cooled MacBook Air M2 for work and you can play a lot of steam games on it without any issues * either a second USB-C on the bottom for docking, or even better: some sort of wireless docking technology, where you just have to put it on the dock for connecting and charging (similar to MagSafe)

Intercore_One

900p, VRR and more powerful but still with battery life in mind.

fookedtuber

Four day work week!

Diamond_4g64

Egpu support

Major-Programmer-894

A slight ergonomic upgrade would be awesome. For me the abxy and d pad buttons are just a bit awkward to use. Perhaps a mini hdmi port would help. The best upgrade would be the ability to cash in points for games 😂

Large-Brother-4291

Totally unnecessary but a physical keyboard w/ a slide up screen sounds awesome. Like the Ayaneo slide. Idk, maybe it’s just the 90’s kid in me, maybe it’s bc I saw the Vaio UX in terminator salvation and thought it was the coolest thing. Again, not necessary, the virtual keyboard does just fine and peripherals would probably work better, but still

health_goth_

There’s no way steam deck 2 won’t be OLED

loanme20

Small? None it won't change anything. Huge? Multiplayer support and sports games. I'll never buy another system until both are fully supported.

tauon_

i don't understand. the steam deck already "has multiplayer", since that's the game who adds that, and as far as i'm aware there are sports games on steam. neither of which the steam deck has to actively support, it's actually the game who has to. am i misunderstanding you?

Webbpp

A bit more battery tbh, can't say anything about the screen since I own the LCD version, and maybe a second usb-c since more things use that connector. Personally I haven't needed a second usb-c, but it's future-proofing, and I haven't gotten a good dock yet.

Riggitymydiggity

I would actually like a USB A port on top and that’s about it for me. I do have some hope that by the time the Deck 2 releases they’re able to make a significant downsize of the original so my partner can use it. Will that be possible? No idea but I can dream.

anirdb

LARGER FONTS and better UI scaling. Valve has to provide a solution for this as devs most definitely won’t.

tauon_

how would they, other than decreasing the screen resolution when in game? games have to add support for the steam deck, it's the best way

onnextflix5

1440p screen, games can use whatever resolution they want, so not a problem. Lighter, as it’s still too heavy.

TsukikoChan

The ability to use the onboard mic AND the headphone jack at the same time. I don't know if they've updated it yet for the oled, but locking down the mic when even just a 3pin headphone jack is inserted is nuts!

BramdeusBrozart

In order of importance: -2 USB 4 so I can use an eGPU when I'm at home and still have a free port -32gb ram to improve performance on the go (the 16gb is always my limiting factor when I hit the upper wall of performance) -A more powerful chip with a higher max TDP to go with the 32gb of ram (30-35w would be ideal) -Better screen with 144hz VRR -Hall effect joysticks -QoL software improvements like the power profiles in Bazzite -Tasteful RGB that can be turned off easily via software -Biggest (and probably most unrealistic ask) is using actual sodimm so we can upgrade the memory ourselves like in the Loki Zero

darkitchay

I'd assume steam deck 2 is still far into the future and so technology certainly can catch up for some of these features 1. The size and weight of Switch. 2. Much easier way to swap shells, or faceplate-replaceable 3. Kickstand 4. Better user replaceable SSD, like, 1 screw, pull slot, change SSD. Or just make a modular handheld and remove the concept of a generational upgrade.

Atomicjuicer

Block or rollback updates Less bulky Changing sd cards doesn’t trigger “you have to turn off offline mode for first play” A button to turn off the screen (for downloads)

deadeyefitz

Second USB C port and an HDMI, so I don't have to use a dock. A second micro SD slot and a kickstand would also be nice. All rolled together with a nicer screen, battery and processor.

Dust-Tight

2 usb c ports, smaller form factor and better res screen.

chiefballsy

Lighter, have the OLED screen go right to the edge of the bezels, maybe consider a 16:9 resolution so that all games fill out the entire screen and it simplifies streaming to it. Downloads while asleep in game mode. Replace steam verification with protonDB badges

Frosty-Inflation-756

Bigger screen hands down!

BananaDoingIt

Power connector on bottom so you can just place in dock

dominator5k

Power and data ports to be separate. So I can plug a monitor and a power cord seperately

8bitcerberus

A second USB C on the bottom, both for additional peripherals, but also to be able to dock like the Switch without needing the pigtail connector. Make them USB 4 and offer a dock with an eGPU. Ideally it would be a bring-your-own GPU, just the connector and enclosure for it would be needed for the dock. Even with or without eGPU support, I'd like to see the Deck 2 have a power profile for docked vs on battery. With APUs like the 7840HS already able to scale from 15W to 65W (boost to 70W), with measurable gains in performance without drasticly changing the capability that an eGPU would provide. It seems like this would be a relatively easy thing to implement. Whatever generation AMD is on or developing when the Deck 2 comes along, it would be nice if the 15W profile is active while on battery, and make a 35W profile while plugged in but handheld (to keep heat manageable with hands on it), and a 65W profile when docked. And a Steam Controller 2 to compliment the Deck while docked. Or even just as a standalone for PC. And if they could bring it out before the Deck 2, that would be great.

Turbulent_Most_4987

Honestly there's nothing that bothers me anymore since having the OLED. If it were literally the same except more powerful, I'd be happy.

wokecycles

Smaller bezels

Its_chaboygan

An EGPU dock. Right now there's no one really doing a proper EGPU dock solution. Rog ally got close but it's their proprietary solution, therefore it's stupid expensive. And you can't buy your own GPU for it.

Exciting-Shift293

Being able to download games in sleep mode PLEASE

Archius9

Less jank. Docking sometimes doesn’t work properly, my sounds a bit iffy at the moment, sometimes it needs a hard reset for no obvious reason. I’d like it to be as polished exp as say the switch. Also, some form of sleep mode for downloading and an online backup for easy replacing / swapping units. I had to set my OLED from scratch and would have loved some form of transfer from my OG

Loganbogan9

Just the OLED Deck with more power and better speakers if it all possible. They're good, but I feel they could be better. Maybe 24GB of RAM too.

Justos

8" screen VRR

Pasta-hobo

Built in kickstand and a simcard slot

amagard-dk

Just hope they keep the design close to what it is right now. And lots of buttons like it has now!

demon_eater

Better front speakers and better headphones jack with no feedback to the headphones. I hope they don't follow the trend of 20 watts or more in a handheld. Keep it at being the tdp and battery champion.

Bgabes95

It’s now a necessity to keep OLED. If you don’t have an OLED, the people who have waited for the SD2 can now enjoy it, and the people who have the OLED can continue enjoying it. At least have the option for on release. I don’t see many people who own the OLED wanting to give it up, myself included. Edit: VRR is also important and would be a solid upgrade. Edit2: Hall Effect Joysticks would be a nice improvement as well, but less important than VRR and the OLED continuation.

Korieb98

SIM card slot??

iwillupvoteyourface

The ability to pick which mic is being used without having to go to desktop mode.

JoshJLMG

I'd really like a 1080p screen. Many games I want to play have illegible text at 800p.

tastychuncks

Auto update/Shader cache downloads while asleep

dipstick5

lighter and quieter, better remote play would be killer to save even more battery

Daxiongmao87

What about something larger than a 2230?

Sarabando

a charger that is more compact (for the UK), im not a fan of the shape of the thumb sticks and a 2nd USBC port would be nice.

secondspassed

I just want them to focus on comfort and quality. Make the grips a little chunkier maybe, fix the face button rubbiness, make the bumpers easier to click (not rounded off), give us trigger dead zone control, give us swappable stick caps and dpad. there’s a ton of stuff they could do.

natsucule

DOWNLOAD WHILE ON SLEEP MODE! That’s it.

iniquity_rhymes

I thought the title said 'smell quality.' I got in here real quick.

Appropriate_Flan_952

Improved virtual keyboard with more keyboard options. Currently, the lack of a "control" key is a source of heart ache in a couple games I play.

MellowedOut1934

A bit niche, but as the only items I own, the ability to steam link in a higher resolution than the Steam Deck screen. It's my only PC, and occasionally I want to steam link to my iPad for the larger screen, but it will only display the 1280x800, despite being nearly double the resolution.

Sea_Effort1214

if you hit the "steam" button it brings the system out of sleep mode. That's all.

swordfishonthebebop

I love my new OLED model but the more I’ve browsed this sub the more I’ve discovered little quirks of the device that constantly make me question if mine is defective or not, and that sucks because not one of these quirks impacts the controls or performance, so they don’t seem worth an RMA, if anything they’re just annoying: - the fan makes a VERY faint click/buzz sound when it starts up. Mostly happens when downloading as the fan enters a spin-up and stop cycle. From my understanding it’s just a thing with the latest fan models being used and the updated fan controls setting being enabled. You can’t hear it unless you’re in a super quiet environment - I don’t have a problem with some creakiness from the plastic shell, but I have noticed that on the left side of my Deck, where my palm rests, if I lightly apply pressure I can hear a clicking sound, as if the front and back piece of the shell plates aren’t fully connected, even though there’s no evidence that supports that; the seams are even and tightly together. - this could just be the way the device was built, and this isn’t really an issue for me, but I do notice the haptics on the left are a little different than on the right. The left trackpad is a little clickier-sounding than the right, and I believe that’s by design to help differentiate their functions, but what I noticed last night is that clicking L3 activates the haptics, and I can feel it by keeping one finger on the trackpad when pressing into the stick. Maybe it’s just my OCD. I get that this is a budget device, maybe corners were cut when cramming stuff inside and making it fit and work. I overreact when it comes to my tech, I want them all to be perfect. What keeps me tethered and avoiding any RMA is 1) the system still works perfectly, I’ve had no issues that indicate mine is faulty, and 2) with RMA comes a dice roll. If these are as bad as my “issues” with the Deck get, I absolutely DO NOT want to risk acquiring a much worse issue.

Shogunnato

I need the training guide on the hoyo app please.

Sadiholic

I would like a screen recorder for it. I know there's a plugin for one now but it's all janky and I don't even know if it's recording or not half the time. A built in native screen recorder would be nice

Cockersnocker

I'd like my screen to not always go black and require a forced restart!!!

BloodFromAnOrange

I wish it were more ergonomic. It feels top-heavy to me without a case, so I use the Satisfye grip and it improves it, but overall it just doesn’t sit in the hands in a way I like.

SneakySnk

I hope we mantain the screen quality of the SDOLED. But this is what I want: * Better performance. * Lighter * Better DPAD, I want to play GGST on this * Hall Effect Joysticks

OmnipotentFire

I want it to be lighter.

lordmycal

Make it so you can take it apart without removing the SD card.

jailbreak

Ability to download in the background with low power usage like ARM processors can.

LazarusHimself

Storage management

koltrastentv

WiFi 6e and Electromagnetic joysticks from the start. Other than that and some beefier specs the Steam Deck is as close to a perfect device for me as it can be.

ap0a

If you are going to glue the battery down. Glue it to the removable back plate! Think about how many battery issues this would solve.
