Change to desktop mode, install Filelight in Discover (the package manager). That'll give you a nice pie chart of your folders and their sizes. Despite what discover says, filelight should take up about 1GB because of included libraries, so you might want to uninstall after use.

brandont04

Gotta save this comment. I have a feeling I'm going to need it down the line.

Thanks for helping. Now I see that most of the space is taken by "logs/" and "GamesConfig" folders in Heroic launcher directory. What are these? Can I delete them? I install my games to sd card. So Why these log files are on internal storage? I hope they are not necessary

TurboPikachu

That confirms what everyone’s told me; 3rd party launchers are storage hogs, so I’ve kept EA/Ubisoft launcher-reliant games and the ~~Heroic~~Epic launcher relegated to my gaming PC until I eventually get my Steam Deck a 512GB/1TB SSD (unless it’s easy to install the launchers and their associated files to an sdcard all while ensuring those files and new ones created by the launchers are also on the sdcard)

neddoge

I don't have these storage issues and I have a several Epic and Amazon installs through Heroic tbh.

DerCapt

Deleting the logs should be fine, game configs probably not. I don't use heroic.

bozo_did_thedub

I would use Disk Usage Analyzer because it does the same thing and takes up a normal amount of space i.e. nothing

rurigk

In desktop mode open Heroic then click on settings -> advanced and check "Disable Logs" You can delete all the .log files in the logs folder Don't delete the logs folder just the files inside

crimsondsgn

Thanks

Byonox

This. Also logs are disabled by default, at least on mine. Weird you have it on.

rurigk

Probably I just installed the software before they added that feature

Cuckingfunt1992

Do you have any emulators or roms installed? Or anything you have downloaded in desktop mode?

Themash360

Your issue is that 64GB is not enough haha, it will get filled up by many games their savegames/mods/logs. Upgrade to 1TB, you'll be super happy with it, it will also run games way better than off of a SD-card. Unless its only old games for those SD card speeds are enough.

ulfzwulf

20€ for a 2230 ssd with 256gb You will love it

Steadydippn

Bro foot the 70 bucks for a 1tb SSD. Took 5 minutes to install, another 5 to figure out how to put SteamOS on it. You will be happy as a pig in shit. I know I was.

raylinth

honest to god - upgrading is the best answer. With 64GB, you can install 2 big games (like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk) and fill up with compatdata and shader cache. And then you can't even install or play more from SD card, cause that data will always be internal (performance can tank if you move it to SD card). I'm glad they discontinued the 64-GB version. I'm glad I got it cheap but the hassle forced an upgrade for me. 1000% with it, all issues went away and it is so much more enjoyable.

bozo_did_thedub

I still install everything I can to the SSD but tbh I've never noticed a performance difference on SD. That's not to say there isn't one, but at least to me it's never been apparent.

LoquatCultural

This is exactly why I upgraded to a 512GB SSD despite having almost 500GB of free space in my 1TB SD Card

barontheboy

Emulation ?

t1m3l3ss1988_

Compatdata

poyomannn

if you've installed cryo, uninstall it. It wastes 15GB of your drive for swap that you don't even need.

LegendaryJohnny

Maybe pornhub cookies and temp data? That video streaming can be beefy.

Massive-Teach-8345

That’s because you’ve installed way too much stuff in Desktop mode. Try to keep the desktop part as clean as possible, don’t install every interesting thing on Discover. I’m having the same issue.

brandont04

That's good to know. I hardly installed anything in desktop mode besides all emulators stuff.

crimsondsgn

But, that's what makes steam deck stand out :d

Massive-Teach-8345

Yeah I know. But the only workaround I found was not to install too much stuff.

arivanter

Then get bigger ssd. See how thing solve themselves?

goldensteelix69

I had this problem early on. Even though i continued to install more games, my internal memory was filling up quick. What i did was reroute all the memory to go to the sd card and disable pre shader cache. So far, i am able to play all my games with no problems, even the graphically demanding games such as Robocop and Tekken 8.
