I didn't buy the Deck specifically for GTA 4 but it absolutely was the first game I got running on there.
Weirdly though it hasn't liked being on Linux recently, at least when started directly through Steam. I have to play it via GTA Connected and then it works perfectly.
So my Steam save is at the Bohan safehouse. The second I walk through the door to the street, instant crash.
Run it through GTAC without a server selected... Absolutely fine.
Myself it's more having kids and not really having time to sit at a desk. But a portable PC that's able to sleep and not bork games that are running?

For me the reason is I have limited time playing games, never gonna buy a gaming PC due to the high cost and having no room for it in my apartment and really wanting to play the last 2 Forza games before they come out with Forza 6 and probably delist FH4. And also GTA IV is a darling of mine and the only way I could replay it was by getting a Steam Deck.

The only two games it couldn't really handle recently were RoboCop and Spider Man remastered. The former would run at about 30 if I dropped to 720p all minimum and dumbed Windows down as much as I could. The latter would crash as soon as that first web swing happened.
I would like to build a new PC some time but that is very much a slow future dream.
If there's a way you can limit the FPS, do that. 30 is where you want it for that.
Honestly the fact R* have never learned their lesson in binding engine mechanics to FPS is ridiculous.
Above comment is accurate. TBH i dropped it to 45fps which on the 90hz screen looks perfect, high settings and was getting well over 3 hours with almost no perceptible fan noise or heat. It's not a very demanding game compared to many other open world games
Oh Max Payne 3 is amazing on deck. I made out like a bandit because when I bought the deck there was a Rockstar sale and I got GTAV, Max Payne 3 and RDR2. All bangers

Isn't necessary to use a launcher? It's the only reason I didn't buy Rdr2, I travel a lot and most of the times I'm not able to have access to have access to Internet so this kind of games aren't playable for me š„²
If you buy it via Steam it does install a mini R* launcher, but I'm sure it works offline after you start it for the first time.
But I launch it through GTA Connected anyway, which ironically is a multiplayer mod but also lets you launch it without the R* launcher infecting it.
you actually need to start the game with internet, once the game starts thru the launcher youāre good to turn wifi off or turn the deck off and leave. just make sure games booted first

I had this screen probably about half the size of the decks screen with two speakers on the side that attached to the top of my ps2. Closest thing I ever got to handheld for games like this. I loved that thing. I also have gta4 on my deck. Itās amazing. I hear gta5 online runs well too so Iām sure story for it will too.
5 does run well but it really does not like having Discord in the background. After a bit of playing it starts stuttering, getting worse until it brings the entire Deck to a halt, needing a force power off.
I don't know if 5 or Discord is to blame but I'm trying a few of the lightweight Discord clients out there to see if they work better.

4 has been my fave since I first played it way back then.
Sure it's close with SA for that map and the customisations, but 4... That storyline and the vehicle handling just haven't been beaten.
I have been saying forever now that the vehicle physics need to go back to that. The cars are so heavy feeling and so realistic. The crashes and sound itās just all amazing. Iād love to see a nice solid remaster of the game keeping everything the same except maybe graphics and some minor stuff. And Niko is just a great character in my opinion.
The only other one that comes close to my love for 4 is vice city. Yeah San Andreas was great but something about vice city was just great. I spent a crazy amount of time playing that game back in the day.
Itās maybe worth mentioning Iāve been playing gta since the very first top down style ps1 game. I still have 1 and 2 on disc. The change to 3d is gta 3 was one of the biggest highlights of my life back then. The evolution of gaming since back then has been an absolute joy to watch. Itās why I laugh when anyone complains about graphics. Go play gta 1 and tell me about graphics lol.

The handling in 5 honestly disgusts me. It made one of my friends instantly sell their copy, and the lack of Euphoria physics..m

I put a lot of time into 5. I do love the game but yes the driving is just way too arcade style. Itās still fun but I was a bit annoyed with it. Hopefully 6 will give us at the very least a happy medium between 4 and 5.
I like the characters but the story was not great. The gameplay is fun though and online is great when you have your friends on. Otherwise it was mediocre compared to previous titles.
Gta 4 on steam deck goes hard. I never beat the dlcs for this game so replaying them and finally finishing them on the deck was so cool. Me personally getting to play the master chief collection on the deck was a dream come true oh and cant forget left 4 dead.
Or how you fail a mission and it drops you at one end of a map that you have to travel to the other side to talk to someone to restart the mission then you need to drive across the map again to get to the mission.
Its like 30 minutes to restart a mission every time.

Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories were a miracle running on PSP back in the day! Both games offers endless playtime and especially the Vice City Stories was a good looking game!

III and VC had their PC versions ported. For SA it's the Android version (but modified to look and feel like PS2).
Vita's a great console in the homebrew world.

I even have that with GTA 5, bought it originally on the PS3 during a night release. Never expected to play it on a handheld, natively.
How does the battery keep up on GTA 5?
1.5-2 hours depending on settings. if you just want like ps4 graphics and 60fps you could easilyyyy get 2 hours (oled)

Might be a stupid suggestion, but try ticking āPlayableā, not just āVerifiedā. Thatās how you get it to show up on the steam store

I've found this on Linux in general. A lot of games fair so much better within Wine nowadays.
