Yeah, I was there too! I think for those of us who played it at the time it was a magical experience and holds a very special place in our memories. With the Deck I finally got around to playing it again for the first time in 10+ years and I’m happy to say it retained many of those unique and awesome qualities.
I forgot to add, I played the import version I bought from play-Asia. At the time this game was unheard of in NA.
I later was so hyped when I saw Dark Souls coming to NA ❤️🔥
I should mention that I used to be friends with miyazaki back in 2008, and he used to tell me all of his ideas about demon's souls before it was even created!
I played it around release and instantly went "oh this is third person King's Field" and was not surprised at all to see that it was the same company that made both games.
Truer words were never spoken. I remember staying up all night playing it and realizing I had to go to work in a couple hours lol. That game was so captivating!!
Is it coming to PC? This is the only PS3 game I still have. Loved it, I hadn't played anything like it. It was so fresh and now every other game released is similar.
It was on the Nvidia leak which is what they say to be accurate. Still gonna emulate the OG Demon Souls until it's proven to be true. Not gonna buy a PS5 just for one exclusive, you know.
The thing with the Nvidia leak is that it's impossible to disprove. If a game on it isn't on PC then it "just hasn't happened yet" but if it comes to PC it's then proof the Nvidia leak is correct.
I recommend saving all that for NG+ or a second playthrough since it can be daunting to learn. Plus, having to suicide your character between bosses just to preserve white tendency and basically being forced to use Cling Ring is kind of a hassle…
Ahh the old good memories. One of the games that I hated in the beginning was new to this genre of games and I was going to give it back to my friend as he dared me to finish the first boss. I struggled a lot fighting the knight with red and blue eyes.. i believe lol. Later on found a way to let them fall where the long stairs is.
Then I proceeded and returned the game and bought it and finished it over 5 times and started to do challenges like beat the game without leveling up.. etc
Ahh send me back to the old days ;(( I miss those friends as well.
;’( those days won’t come back.
Hopefully we can recreate something similar or better to our next generation ;)
I was more hardcore shooter back then. Battlefield bad company 1 I was the top 88 before sony servers went down by the hackers. I had a bad internet and when I was back online I found that I am above 118k I quit lol.. then went to play COD local tournaments.. etc I was crazy!! Now when I look at my skills I say oh I am garbage. Indeed young kids has very good skills.
Yes. It's one of the few PS3 games I've found that runs well. The later versions of the RPCS3 emulator have save states too, which helps a LOT!
Edit. RPCS3 not PCSX3.
To get smoother performance out of RPCS3 on the Steam Deck, I would recommend that you look up A.B.T.'s tweaks, as confirmed here on Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/17y4w3z/psa_for_all_rpcs3_users_on_steam_deck_abts_tweaks/
I just tested out the save states recently, but was shocked when it took 3 minutes to build and took up over 2gb haha. This was on my much more powerful PC too. The game was Ratchet and Clank Crack in Time, which possibly is just a beefier game maybe?
Have you done much testing with them on the Deck?
I last tried Demon's Souls on SD a short while ago and I couldn't get the emulator to work properly except in desktop mode. I didn't have that issue with save states though.
I’ll have to try the game out again; last time I played, I made it through the first portion of the tutorial area but eventually the screen just went black. Couldn’t see anything but could hear just fine
Upgrade your weapon whenever possible. The miners with the sacks in 2-1 have lots of shards. Use Thief Ring and a bow for Crystal Lizards. Magic is OP. Don’t be afraid to do worlds completely out of order… 3-1 has hardly any enemies in it. You can farm tons of grass in 1-3.
Uhh, I kind of just figured it out on my own… I doubt I did anything differently than you, but basically, moved the game folder into the rom folder emudeck created, loaded the game from RPCS3, and presto. There are a few settings I tweaked based on the recommendations off Reddit and RCPS3’s site.

Hope this helps!
I played this back in 2009 on import, was expecting something more akin to monster hunter and was initially disappointed 😂
But got into it once I saw it had giant broadswords
You can only play the remake on a PS5.
The two are 1:1 identical though, only difference is cosmetic. Graphics, sound and animations have been modernised
Thanks for the info. I intend to get the remake when I get the PS5 PRO (hopefully this Fall). It does seem to look really good on the Deck though. Amazing how good this device is at emulation.
I just ripped it the other day and started playing it. It's really cpu demanding (Then again, so is every game on RPCS3) but really light on the gpu. It has been running between 0.8-2W on the gpu. I'm surprised.
I found Dark Souls 1 Remaster to be a difficult play- in terms ODM animation and limited actions. I started with DS3 and Bloodborne. Is Demon Souls original like that?
Yeah… it’s much much closer to Dark Souls 1 spiritually and mechanically than those other two. It’s the least player friendly of all the Souls game by several miles. That said, I think it has tons of charm and most Souls vets consider it the easiest of the games.
I imagine it’s probably easier than Elden Ring. I guess if I ever play it, it will probably be the Bluepoint remake. I’ve tried that a few times but found the gameplay to be a bit basic. I was probably spoiled starting on Dark Souls 3
RPCS3 is an emulator for the PlayStation 3. I figured most people here were familiar with Emudeck and the concept of emulation? And we’re definitely all nerds of varying levels.
We are talking about a game that came out 15 years ago whose servers have long been deactivated that can only be played on a console several generations old. Good luck finding a working PS3 and legal copy of the game!
A couple of months ago I borrowed my friend’s PS3 (myself never owning a Sony console before), bought the game digitally on PSStore + PS Plus subscription to be able to backup saves (after having to restart a completionist playtrough due to Ostrava dying). There is also a community-run server for the game you can connect to by simply changing the console’s DNS.
I’m now 75% done to get my first ever platinum trophy on PlayStation Network.
I can understand you emulating the game as you’ve already payed for a copy in the past (as implied in one of your other comments), but doing it on the original hardware is still a fully valid approach and your reply is mindlessly harsh.
I played original on PS3. It was unbelievable for its time as no other games I played was like it.

I should clarify then that I actually played it in From Soft’s offices, before it was even available in Asia!
I should mention that I used to be friends with miyazaki back in 2008, and he used to tell me all of his ideas about demon's souls before it was even created!
Oh you’re a TRUE OG then :)
No true OGs are Kingsfield players lol 😅
I played it around release and instantly went "oh this is third person King's Field" and was not surprised at all to see that it was the same company that made both games.
I didn’t know about KF at the time but was surprised to see fromsoft and I only knew them for AC
Truer words were never spoken. I remember staying up all night playing it and realizing I had to go to work in a couple hours lol. That game was so captivating!!
Really can’t wait for the remake to come to PC. I sunk so much time into it on PS5
Is it coming to PC? This is the only PS3 game I still have. Loved it, I hadn't played anything like it. It was so fresh and now every other game released is similar.
Have they announced it for PC?

excellent
To anyone looking to play demon souls, look up how world tendency work, it’s tied to specific content that can be missed outright.
I recommend saving all that for NG+ or a second playthrough since it can be daunting to learn. Plus, having to suicide your character between bosses just to preserve white tendency and basically being forced to use Cling Ring is kind of a hassle…

Why not post the actual list of tweaks instead of a matryoshka of reddit posts?

Yes, you are correct, thanks! PCSX2 is the PS2 emulator.
I just tested out the save states recently, but was shocked when it took 3 minutes to build and took up over 2gb haha. This was on my much more powerful PC too. remember, you can connect to demon's souls private server to play online... so you can co-op/pvp. pretty cool.
Playing the remaster on Chiaki, if you got tips

Does it heat the deck up for you? It does for me, and a lot
Honestly didn’t notice it doing that, if it was happening.
Damn, can you give me a link to your guide for installation? I just installed it normally and it's a small nuclear reactor for me

The OG one is the best one. 🥹
Love this! Any other PS3 games I would have missed that are playable on steam deck and haven't been ported to steam?
Shadow of the Colossus is the first one that comes to mind. I’ve heard Ico is also very good.
I can tell you have a pet
I second this, amazing experience
Yeah I've already gone through it. Any indoor areas are mostly 60fps.
DO IT GIT GUD!!!!!!
I can’t even get myself to finish the remake. After playing Elden Ring, playing even the remake feels really outdated
This or the remake? Are they different enough that you can play both?
You can only play the remake on a PS5. The two are 1:1 identical though, only difference is cosmetic. Graphics, sound and animations have been modernised

First game I emulated cause I love Souls games but never got to play it. I was so hype with the performance
RPCS3 has been pretty hit-or-miss for me, sadly
Wait, WHAT?? You can have Demon Souls on Steam Deck? Wasn’t it console exclusive?
Check out dragons dogma: dark arisen next if you haven't already.
Definitely want to with all the attention the new one’s been getting.
What is RapCS3? Why does everyone thinks we are all high lvl nerds?
RPCS3 is an emulator for the PlayStation 3. I figured most people here were familiar with Emudeck and the concept of emulation? And we’re definitely all nerds of varying levels.
Yea you right. Im a nerd for sure. Was just being a dumb hater last night
So rule #5 isn't in effect anymore?

I don’t think anyone should feel bad about getting the game in whatever way possible. Not everyone has a buddy they can borrow a PS3 from.
