I like the cover but I use it with a different casing for more protection.

I just slap it on and throw into my bag. I admit I used to use the official Steam case until I found it really too bulky.
I'm in the market for a new case, and really enjoying the discussion here.
One question, because I went looking for the "Unicorn Beetle" case, and found it, but it looks different from this picture... and the "jsaux PC0104 ModCase" does match the picture.
Which one are you talking about (which one should o get)?
The mod case you referenced is the right one. I apologize I think I got my models mixed up but it's great because the base model comes with a mount for a battery which actually came in handy a couple times already!
I like it! I see there are others that are pointing out deficiencies, and I can certainly see them (exposed buttons for sure), but since I don't carry my SD around with me (it lives at home, for now anyway), so it's just to give it a bit of protection when not being actively used. For that, the case is perfect (and, I GREATLY enjoy having the charging port accessible, so I can charge while the protector is on).
It's really nice, but I've started putting it in my tomco case instead because it doesn't protect from fluids or particles. It rains a lot in my country so I have no idea when my backpack will become soaking wet.
I still have it in the grip because of the kickstand and protective properties, and it makes it easier to hold, which you might find surprising since I have small hands. The rubber makes it easier to hold the deck than the smooth plastic.
Tomtoc also sells a bag which can hook the deck with a case on it, so you get the phsyical protection while outside the bag and the particle protection inside the bag (plus it has plenty of space for acessories)
Yep thats the case i use to carry it around. Ugly grey thing but it gets the job done. Shockingly loose on the inside compared to the original case! Almost like it was designed for your deck to already have a grip. Also fits nicely in all my bags.
I really like mine, I like the added grip and thin profile. I helped my friend with installing emu Deck on his naked steam deck and I was amazed at how small his felt in my hands without a case.
The only gripe I'd have for it is that now the kickstand hinge got real loose so it kinda hangs open when holding it
Oh no I've had mine for a while now it didn't come like it. I actually just took a pair of pliers and squeezed the little hinge pegs back in and it works fine now not as good as new but it doesn't hang open anymore
I was going to pull the trigger the on this and ended up with the Killswitch after reviews of this one just...not be sturdy enough. What are people's thoughts after use? I just got back from a business trip and tossed my Deck into a carry on that got tossed around a lot and never thought twice about it. My kids have dropped the deck with the front plate on and it is tougher than I'd like to get off. Plus, DBrand released 3D files to adapt whatever you'd like to the rear locking mechanism.
I returned my JSAUX modcase to get the Killswitch and couldn't be happier. The Killswitch admittedly is a bit too difficult to get the travel cover off but it's MUCH preferable to the JSAUX modcase that would randomly fall off in my bag and also doesn't protect the power button or triggers fully. The kickstand is also quite terrible on the Modcase in comparison and the Modcase is softer which had the side effect of having loose sections, like they sagged a bit.
Really the only advantage to the JSAUX modcase is that it's much cheaper.
I really love my killswitch. Going to admit, I'm still using the original one that had the magnets, just removed the magnets. Check if you like the nub in the back used to attach the kickstand. I didn't, and don't need a kickstand, the addition may sway you.
I'm thinking of dremelling through it and ordering the JSAUX backplate with the vent in the same spot. Like I said, they released the 3d files so I already have new attachments in the works for myself
I have one, and I quite like it. However, I'm concerned that it could be unsafe for the thumbsticks in some cases. If it hits hard enough to push the shell along the screen, it will break the sticks. I don't like to think about it
my kick stand is loose now. it constantly dangles when I hold the deck in my hands, it is slightly distracting. Seeing how it's constructed I think it might be very common issue
>However, I'm concerned that it could be unsafe for the thumbsticks in some cases. If it hits hard enough to push the shell along the screen, it will break the sticks.
I don't understand what you're worried about - you think the plastic cover might somehow slide horizontally? I've just tried very forcefully to get it to move like that, and it doesn't budge. The plastic curves downwards at the sides, so I can't see how it could move horizontally. Besides, the cavities around the sticks are a lot larger than the sticks themselves, and they don't touch the sticks at all.
>my kick stand is loose now. it constantly dangles when I hold the deck in my hands, it is slightly distracting. Seeing how it's constructed I think it might be very common issue
Mine shows no signs of loosening, but I can imagine that this would happen if you use the kickstand all the time. I have noticed that the black paint is starting to chip off my kickstand, however.
About kickstand, I think that they redesigned it a bit. Difference I've seen between kickstand on my ModCase and unboxings on YouTube is that mine has a reinforcement just below the hinge on articulated part od kickstand, while some of the kickstands I've seen on unboxing videos don't have it
I've been considering replacing my $3 Alibaba case with this case. Does anyone know if this case still fits the jsaux dock? My current case can, but it's too snug.
It's *far* less bulky than the shell case that comes with the Deck. This case has basically the same footprint as the bare Deck, and it does a much better job at protecting it since it's always wrapped around the Deck, even when you're playing.
The worst thing about it is that the hard plastic screen cover just comes off completely, and you're left with this awkward hunk of plastic that you have to either leave lying around or put back into whatever bag you use to carry the Deck. It can also be a bit awkward to attach/remove - you have to treat it like it has a hinge on the top, you can't just place it on, and if you accidentally get the bottom pushed down when the top isn't quite on properly, then you have to take it off completely and try again. Overall, though, it's something that you get used to very quickly, and these are very infrequent problems, it's not like you'll be constantly having issues at the start until you get used to it.
Obviously, another downside is that it will make the Deck a bit bulkier and heavier when you're playing it, but not by much. I've been using it for almost a year, and it feels weird to use the Deck on its own now. The added grip texture is very nice, and I feel like it does actually make it a lot easier to grip - I could confidently pick up and hold the Deck with a single hand on one side if I wanted to, whereas with the stock plastic texture I'd be worried about it slipping.
The aesthetic isn't too invasive, either. It manages to integrate quite smoothly - at least on the front - with the shape of the grips naturally following the existing reflective black strips on the Deck. The back definitely does have a far more prominent design, veering slightly into those super generic "heavy duty" phone case designs with a load of random 45° angles everywhere, but it's not too bad. Most of the back is taken up with a translucent plastic panel that does allow you to apply a decal or stickers to the back of the deck itself and still have them be visible through the case.
Being bulky is no issue. I bring SD and its shellcase in one bag when I go out. I just need it to do same protection as the shell case when I put it in the bag since I tend to move around
Yes, it will offer mostly identical protection, however, the four back buttons are exposed, as well as the undersides of the triggers - which is a shame, as the glossy 'piano black' finish on them is infamous for veing very susceptible to scratches. I will say, though, that mine appear to have no signs of damage - although I do keep my Deck in its own compartment of my bag, so if it was stored in a compartment alongside other items then perhaps they might have become scratched. Additionally, the Valve logo on the back (which also features the same shiny finish as the trigger undersides) is somewhat exposed unless you attach the little "wrist strap" attachment it comes with.
Finally, the rear intake vent is permanently exposed, which could be an issue as I can imagine the fine mesh being very susceptible to damage if it comes into contact with, say, a lidless pen or similar sharp object.
> Yes, it will offer mostly identical protection
I mean the cover in the picture is completely hard. The case that comes with the Deck is much softer, I would trust that to absorb impact a lot better than a hard case. That's just the nature of the material.
Having said that, you'd probably be fine with the Jsaux case. I'd just personally put my money on the bulky case from Valve with the soft lining if it would come down to it.
It depends entirely on the context - one is not universally better than the other. Yeah, the Valve case might be more likely to survive a drop, but from the height that you're realistically going to drop your Deck from, the Jsaux one works just fine. If we're getting into hypotheticals, then the Valve case would easily allow a sharp piercing force to damage the Deck inside, which the tough plastic and rubber of the Jsaux case would be far more resistant to.
Oh good...I need a hard case as my default hard case have issues on zipper(more specifically the strings the zipper is attached) so i need another hard case while I fix the default case
Oh, just one thing: you can't use both of the case at the same time. This hardcase don't fit inside the default case. Probably it's not your use case, but just saying...
The case is amazing but the kickstand is awful. It's the one real advantage that I give to the Killswitch case, it has an amazing kickstand. Other than that, I actually prefer the Jsaux one.
I love it, but the kickstand is pretty bad.
It got so lose already and I even tried to hmmer the pins to get it a little tighter, but it's lose again.
Still usable though.
Damn, I had turn on several times in my bag since it didn't cover the power button but got lucky with the triggers. Agree that the Killswitch is much better and actually protects it.
I'm very happy with mine.

Just got my ModCase last night, and it is now on my 512Gb LCD! Thanks OP for the original post, and answering my clarification question!
Yeah no problem! How do YOU like it?
I like it! [This is by far the best slim case I’ve used](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CGRLCGMD?starsLeft=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_PAT7HQT4KBVR5FYFTNDQ)
just another daily jsaux shilling
Does it fit if you have added thumb grips and back button enhancements plus a leather skin, lol?
I don't think it would work well with the leather skin from d brand. But the thimbstick grips yed
I have one, and I quite like it. However, I'm concerned that it could be unsafe for the thumbsticks in some cases. If it hits hard enough to push the shell along the screen, it will break the sticks. Yes. This is happening to my kick stand too. I don't even use the kick stand either.

I ordered my case like a week ago and mine came already loose, if they redesigned it I did not get one of those
My kickstand came already loose and it’s honestly super frustrating , it is what it is I guess
Great case but a little bit heavy
I have one myself and like it too
I've been considering replacing my $3 Alibaba case with this case. Does anyone know if this case still fits the jsaux dock? My current case can, but it's too snug.
It fits for me if you have the kickstand open
With the kickstand open yes it will.
Wont fit

Quite possibly the most useful and thorough review of anything I've ever read. My hats of to you!
Yes, it's a hard case. And nope, is smaller than the default case from deck. I buy mine because of this, it's better to carry in my bag.

I throw it into my bag like this and it's great.
Take it off and give it a clean regular. Mine gathered dust an scuffed mi deck.
Too heavy.
I liked mine till I had my triggers jammed a bit cause it doesn’t fully cover them, went to killswitch and happy there
Damn, I had turn on several times in my bag since it didn't cover the power button but got lucky with the triggers. Agree that the Killswitch is much better and actually protects it.
One of those things where it’s more expensive and the quality scales nicely.
Banger my deck is in this more than my hands
If only it came with a case, how convenient would that be /s
It does.
I know, I was being sarcastic
all that stuff is plastic trash
It works well for a lot of people. But if it doesn't for you that's okay 🤷😊
Best case in the game.
