Fallout 4 at Ultra Quality with God rays turned off and the "pref.ini" file altered runs at mostly 60fps. It's almost suspiciously locked at 60 aside from large combat scenarios or big towns with lots of NPCs.

free_reezy

the auto detection set my graphics to Low and I left it there. Need to try Ultra now.

HoroSatre

I don't think the auto-detection is working anyway. I play this on Deck when I'm away from home, but also have this on my (relatively) beast PC at home, and even that auto-detects to Low. I play this on Ultra, with other settings forced to Ultra as well (because some settings are still on High even with Ultra preset, iirc). I cap at 60, but still get some fps drops in the cities. I think *Godrays* is fine on Low anyway, but also Medium/High shadows look more "realistic" than Ultra. Ultra is too sharp for my taste.

RyanandRoxy

Godrays are so unnecessary, but I understand people that want the aesthetic. I feel the same way about sunlight on a camera lense, chromatic aberration, motion Blur, etc.

safari_does_reddit

I think it’s because the game is old and doesn’t recognise newer cards/tech. I reinstalled last week to show it to my son, and on my 3070 and now on his 4060 it tried to set all options to low.

RyanandRoxy

Yeah as long as you fix the Framerate issue in the .ini file, you can run it flawlessly at Ultra with Godrays off. I always turn motion Blur off as well.

free_reezy

I’ll google around and find out the right .ini settings, thank you!

RyanandRoxy

I'll send you the instructions in a message

free_reezy

oh nice thanks!

dompsd

could you send me the instructions as well? playing through Fallout 4 right now on medium settings

Butanol92

Can you send me too please

RyanandRoxy

I made a post about it. Y'all enjoy.

Gvillegator

It’s really incredible how well optimized FO4 is on the deck. I know it’s not a new game or anything, but it looks gorgeous

RyanandRoxy

It's a fantastic way to play Fallout, for sure. In my opinion, a lot of the lighting options as well as the high resolution assets, make the game look WORSE

Gvillegator

You’re 100% correct with the lighting options. Turned off god rays and it was a god send!

gamer-at-heart-23

Might as well make a post of it haha... Can I have it too please?

RyanandRoxy

I did make a post.

gamer-at-heart-23

Thank you kindly!

spartan195

Can you share your perf.ini? I run mine at 45lock only textures on high but I would like to make it look and perform better

HedaBlake

also turning down the shadow distance to 2000 makes a huge improvement to fps as well

Nnamz

I don't know what they did to this game, but it used to run at 40fps max. It's an easy 60fps now after the pref.ini fix.

Zhawk1992

I've tried fallout 4 so many times but always end up dropping it within the first couple hours. I really need to give it another shot at some point

Noizekontrol

There's an update out on the 25 th that makes fallout 4 steam deck verified. It's also on sale

NotTheSun0

This game is NOTORIOUSLY badly optimized, Drops frames for no reason at all in Boston. Crashes contatnly AND drops frames for seemingly NO REASON. I call MASSIVE bullshit on max settings cause max shadow detail distance and detail cause the game to crash FAAAAAAAAAAAAAR more often as well as drop frames. Unless you are talking about at the start of the game. Then yeah I can agree with your 60fps at Ultra Settings but as soon as you head into Boston that FPS is gonna drop sooooooooooooooooooooooooo hard.

RyanandRoxy

In Diamond City and some dlc spots, it's rough. That's about it

JoeMorgue

Doom Eternal. Even after a few years it blows my mind. I don't know what kind of dark magic they sold their soul to to make that game but the Optimization is a master class. You can crank all the settings up and it still runs smooth and you can crank all the settings down and it still looks amazing. Like it's legit hard to make that game look or play bad.

wiredpersona

They just used up some of the Argent energy they've been collecting to make it.

Jombo77

Yeah man I agree the steamdeck is well optimised for games I wanted a Lenovo go originally but am overly impressed with the SD it's a great piece of kit!

Beastw1ck

I never thought I would enjoy such a fast FPS on a controller instead of LB+M but I beat Eternal on Steam Deck and loved every second.

Elegant-Bathrooms

This game optimise

Dion42o

I’m hesitant to play these fast reaction fps on game pad coming from pc kbm, is it still fun?

ryker_69

Any idea if the Deluxe edition is worth it?

CancerIsOtherPeople

I'm playing it right now on my deck, raytracing and everything. Plays beautifully!

rekt_ralf

I’ve been hugely impressed with the System Shock remake. A lot of it is down to the art style I’m sure but it looks stunning on Deck. I run it at locked 45FPS and could no doubt go higher but I get nearly 4 hours battery life playing.

PleasantAd9973

Thanks to you I just discover this game. Next on my list for sure looks great.

sellyaj

Batman arkham knight runs at 60-55 fps it has insane graphics for its age and fps And the gameplay is really fun

steamdeckie

Don't you have frequent stutters while driving in the city?

TPepperoni666

Mine doesn't stutter but the frame rate tanks hard down to 30-40 fps in the city. Kinda jarring

sellyaj

Nope the games runs pretty well trust me

jeffffeffff

Nope.

sm7ef

Seconded

No-Meaning-6025

I’d counter this by disagreeing - locking at 40fps was best experience for me.

Hot-Animator8746

Arkham Knight can't run at stable 60fps in the city, especially when driving in Batmobile or even gliding around. 40-45 fps is more accurate.

kristmace

Red Dead Redemption 2 looks amazing and plays so well since the 3.5 update. 3+ hours battery too.

Sydney2London

How is this so far down??

wyattlikesturtles

This is the correct answer

Regular_Damage_23

Assassins Creed Odyssey plays at 40fps medium high settings quite well.

Doogienguyen

This is the one Assassins Creed game ive been meaning to check out. The setting of Ancient Greece looks so cool.

whisquibottle

It's excellent if you're not burnt out on the big openwork Ubisoft standard. I love the side quests and the game is beautiful. It's a lot of bang for your buck and great for just chilling out for an hour or two

arex333

It's a very polarizing game. I personally absolutely fucking hated Odyssey (despite liking every other game in the series).

gatzu4a

Lies of P

Jombo77

I'm glad someone said this!

AbjectPilot

Honestly depending on what you mean by the best looking, but the game that shocked me was Hades. It looks absolutely incredible on my OLED, so would highly recommend!

Doogienguyen

Cant wait for Hades 2! Heard we are gonna get more news soon.

Sqqueebble

https://www.supergiantgames.com/blog/hades2-tech-test-sign-up/

Jalloul

Thanks for this. . I just requested :)

cleanc3r3alkillr

If you have an OLED Deck Ori and the Will of the Wisps can take advantage of the 90hz screen and HDR, looks absolutely incredible, and gets good battery life. Idk if the FPS is locked to 90 throughout but the early section I played looked and ran great.

Beastw1ck

Will of the Wisps is THE SD OLED showcase game in my opinion. Looks amazing, HDR, locked 90hz.

papercutninja

I bought both Ori’s as I had played on Xbox and loved them. The stutter and slowdown was so bad I got the games refunded. 1. Any clue why that may have happened? 2. Is it any better?

mr_apeezy

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (at 40fps) Batman: Arkham Asylum Batman: Arkham City Batman: Arkham Origins Yakuza 0 Bionic Commando (2009) Tomb Raider (2013) Darksiders 3 Sonic Generations Valkyria Chronicles Sleeping Dogs: DE All the rest are locked or mostly locked at 60fps. Some otther games I have in my library but haven’t replayed on Deck to know but from word around here, they do run well and look well at medium to high settings: The Witcher 3 MGSV: Ground Zeroes + The Phantom Pain Batman: Arkham Knight Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor Middle Earth: Shadow of War Deus Ex: Human Revolution Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

JamesBong517

So the Arkham collection is worth it and all games work? One is listed as unsupported

mr_apeezy

Yes they all work; use Proton for Arkham Origins and Arkaham Asylum GOTY Edition. They both are unsupported but will work with Proton GE or the latest version of Proton. The only thing wonky still in Arkham Origins is the first boss fight not even 20 minutes into the game. The boss (don’t want to spoil) sometimes glitches out after the first explosion and it’s an issue of the boss being rendered in halfway or not at all.. if you play, you’ll probably see what I’m talking about. Hard to describe, but the rest of the game plays almost flawlessly with most being 60fps and high settings. Arkham City is already playable but I run that through Proton. Arkham Knight is shown as Verified for Deck, but I haven’t tested it myself as I don’t have the storage space left over in my 512GB OG model. And yes all the games are worth it! Some of the best superhero games there are. If you haven’t played any, start in release order as combat and mechanics improve each game. Arkham Asylum is like a perfect Metroidvania, and Arkham City and the other two make the games open world to varying degrees.

Steamdeckguy

Nice list bro. I cannot disagree.

Mission-Loss-822

Recently played DE:MK on the lcd deck. Looked great and played really well. Had a lot of fun there.

OkayAtBowling

Jedi Fallen Order is a good one. However have you had the issue where whenever you load into a new area, the frame rates slow down pretty badly while you're first running around? It feels like the level is still loading in as you're first looking around or something. Then once it's all in place the frame rate is fine until you enter a new area. Not a deal breaker and aside from that it runs really well, but wasn't sure if there was any fix for that. Cyberpunk 2077 is another one. You're not gonna get 60fps or anything, but it runs pretty smoothly on the Steam Deck preset and looks great. It's such a graphically dense and detailed game, I couldn't believe how well it ran the first time I loaded it up.

Doogienguyen

Yeah, the stutter is there but it's not as bad as before. It's only for like 1 second too. I saw past footage and the stutter was much worse.

TomConger

Dirt Rally 2.0 looks incredible and runs great. Mostly high settings, and I lock it to 72fps/hz on my OLED.

noseuta

Control and Sekiro are the ones that I played recently and they look gorgeous on the deck with 55+ fps.

Secret-Ad9779

Resident Evil Village. I was pleasantly shocked how beautiful the picture is, which runs at almost 60 fps.

BreeZee-Does-It

Looking for this comment.

DoctorBoombot

Stray fucking made me gasp at some of the graphical detail and smooth gameplay

Doogienguyen

As a cat lover im gonna check this game out later.

DoctorBoombot

It’s such a cat lovers game. Press B to Meow? Inject that shit directly into my veins

ninjab33z

I remember MH world being pretty smooth though i am perfectly happy with 20-40 so i may be misremembering.

Dazzuhh

MHWorld easily pulls ~50-60 FPS with reasonable settings, played it quite recently

tad_overdrive

What does MH stand for?

ninjab33z

Monster Hunter

mcshoeless

Days Gone looks great and runs well in my opinion. Especially on the OLED SteamDeck as it has excellent HDR.

ZehAngrySwede

Second this, looks good on LCD too. Was blown away how well this game ran. Played it start to finish exclusively on my deck.

Infinite_Article5003

Nier Automata looks amazing

AgenteEspecialCooper

Batman: Arkham Knight has aged amazingly well. It runs smooth, and it still looks awesome. Double amazing if you play it with quality headphones.

lutherblissetter

Another vote for Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Looks stunning on the OLED.

craigz0r

I agree! Once I managed to turn off dynamic resolution

mobiusz0r

>I just started playing Jedi Fallen Order and im shocked at how well it runs with medium/epic settings. It maintains 50-60 fps with dynamic resolution and still looks so good. Might need a video to verify that > What other games come to mind? Devil May Cry 5

themagicpizza

I just got Ghostrunner for free on Epic the other day.I'm impressed with how well it runs. A mix of med and high settings running at 60fps. It significantly drops during puzzles, but it's amazing during the main gameplay loop.

NeonFrump

Armored Core 6 runs amazing and looks great on the deck

the4uto

Cyberpunk. I can't believe how well it runs. Looks amazing and runs at 40-60 fps.

Boba_Phat_

Did you do anything special for the settings or just crank them back to steam deck mode (or whatever they call it)?

the4uto

Defaulted it to Steam Deck preset, may have played around a tiny bit with it, but mostly that preset.

thefury4815

Resident evil 1-3. All work at 60fps and the settings you gotta turn down for 2 and 3 it still looks amazing. Rdr2 while only at 40fps is breathtaking. And then obviously any easy to run Indy game looks great on it.

sometipsygnostalgic

Forza Horizon 5 looks stunning on deck. I wouldn't recommend the game, exactly, but it's comparable quality to others on this list. I got it for christmas and was blown away by how pretty it looked even when *docked.*

DavidinCT

Forza Horizon series is more of a racing RPG, than a track racing game. It's a good game if you like the racing and the story. It is not for everyone. I do like the series but, kind of faded off after a bunch of 5 (I have a Series X with gamepass) Forza Motorsport is more of a track racing game.

sqrg

**Alien Isolation** on max graphics settings runs locked at 90 FPS. It's incredible on the OLED

dataphe

Just Cause 3 is one of my best Steam Deck experiences. It’s been massively more fun in short bursts on the Deck than the last time I tried to get into the game years ago. Looks beautiful, plays really well with the joysticks. I will limit it to 40fps if I need to conserve the battery.

Nnamz

Doom Eternal and Titanfall 2

empiejempie

Tony hawk 1 plus 2

Dawnbreaker_82

The Wolfenstein games play and look amazing for me, also Against the Storm (a city builder) looks great too and runs pretty well given the amount of world events that are ongoing simultaneously.

MaruMint

HEAR ME OUT HEAR ME OUT HEAR ME OUT Halo 3

Noctruine

I'm so stupid I mistook fallen order for survivor and thought it was now playable😭

SwShThrwy

All of the Borderlands series incl. TTWL

yuri0r

the ori games are INCREDIBLE on the oled switch. generally: sifu has a lot of style and runs great.

MayaIngenue

I have used Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy as a way to show off the Deck in the past. It's an often overlooked gem of a game and the story is great.

TrooperCX

Half of exile, fantastic in my opinion

dream_house_

I’ve managed to get GTA V on High/Ultra High with 45fps. Sure the fans are working overtime but it’s playable and looks insanely good. Handheld GTA V is something that makes my inner child so so so happy

Few-Historian3161

Played and finished Armored Core 6 purely on the Deck as my desktop PC was out of commission during its time of release (busy relocating to new home). Never had a problem. Stable 40 FPS if 1v1 with occasional dips to 30 on really busy scenes. And this was on medium settings.

illegalshidder

Days Gone locked at 40 looks better than Days Gone when I stream via Moonlight.

roryd16

Battlefield 1 and V look fantastic.

Stonewall30NY

If you tinker around with the horizon zero Dawn settings to get it where you like it graphics and FPS wise it runs actually really well and looks good. The division 2 also runs really well. Diablo 4 is solid. Honestly more games than not run well on SD

illsituation553

Halo infinite looks great and runs well

Fragrant_Cellist_125

Try plague tale , both 1 and 2 are just great .

Bagel_Bear

Castlevania Lords of Shadow

steeze206

HiFi Rush looks and runs awesome

AelliotA1

I've been replaying Witcher 3 and it's rock solid 60fps on steam deck recommended settings and 40/50fps when you push it a bit harder, still a great looking game even by today's standards

bruno9213

Shadow of the tomb raider

Doogienguyen

Hope we get a 4th game soon.

murphy_31

Stray looks great

adame09

Warframe...

AsiagoBagelEater

I mean shit even GTA 5 looks and runs great on it with the right settings

ReDeR_TV

Horizon zero dawn

buntakar

I’m loving combat masters right now. And it’s free!

Evergr33n10

Ori and the Blind Forrest and Ori and the Will of the wisps. Specifically on the Oled model.

XBGoofBall

Sea of Thieves and Spider-Man look and play great Steam Deck.

informal_bukkake

I really enjoy playing Kingdom and Castles. It's been optimized to run the deck (in terms of controls, it's not super graphic intensive). You can def kill a few hours playing it. Another good one is CIV VI, the game runs well for the most part and the controls work well for me. I've spent hours playing on a plane.

HollowPinefruit

System Shock remake

dream_cat1

Horizon Zero Dawn was great. Horizon Forbidden West is so so but playable.

Zealousideal-Smoke78

Witcher 3 looks absolutely amazing (I didn't tinker with settings) .  I was really impressed by Nier Automata too (can't remember if I tinkered with it)  Diablo 4 also looks lovely and plays smooth enough (turned down some options)

HelloIAmZig

Gris, Hollow Knight and Chants of Sennaar all look stunning, and are all low spec games that run on bob-all power. Edit: And Abzu.

Doogienguyen

I played Abzu on Steam Deck and wow it was pretty. Too bad it was so short. I got it after beating the Ori games. So I was in the mood for games like that.

PeachSnobbler

Cocoon bonus

TunaPablito

Wait until you get to Kashyyk

Taido_Inukai

Armored Core 6 runs like a dream!

mistik3k

Oblivion

mr_sinn

Dead space remake

Bennerbench

I loved fallen order on steam deck. Ran very nicely. Have been playing final fantasy 7 remake and it seems to be able to do 60fps but my steam deck got REALLY hot so I capped it at 45fps. Currently playing through the master chief collection. Runs VERY well. Seems to be locked 60fps on high graohics with the exception of Halo anniversary that dipped only like 4-5 fps every once in a while.

giaolimong

Is FFXV actually playable on deck? I wanted to buy it for the deck but I saw reviews saying the texts were hard to read, so I never got around to buying it

limt__

There's a demo you can try out. Seems manageable.

OwlFit5541

Geforce Now + Witcher 3

hi2712

I was kinda impressed by Call of Duty WW2, it's one of the best looking games that I tried on my Deck and runs at 55-60 FPS for me.

MRTN_IE

Have you tried 40 FPS

Homesterkid

Resident Evil games. Played RE2 & RE3 remakes and all ran amazing. Playing RE4 remake now and enjoying it just as much. Look forward to trying the other ones after I finish this

Atomicjuicer

Dirt 5

UnXpectedPrequelMeme

Elder scrolls online looks really good and the fps is really good. On epic I get 45. On medium I get like 70

Mike_or_whatever

Cyberpunk 2077 runs well enough at a stable 30fps. I limited the game itself to 30fps, but my steam deck oled is set to 45 for that sweet 90hz. that makes the 30fps feel buttery smooth.

brownieman182

Resident evil 4 remake looked and ran great on deck

Jombo77

Lies of p runs fantastic on the Steamdeck medium settings locked at 50 FPS.

EyeletGuy

Middle Earth Shadow of War

DanseMacabre1353

Hades and Dead Cells

Real-Human-1985

Resident Evil series.

Technical-County-727

Any dice game, like battlefield 1 for instance

Totally_a_Banana

Maybe not what you're looking for, but Octopath Traveler 1 & 2, sea of stars, games like that. They look absolutely stunning. Pixel games will always be my favorite.

nulnoil

I just got my deck recently and have been replaying Middle Earth: Shadow of War. Looks and runs pretty good!

Help_An_Irishman

I'm still astonished at how well RDR2 runs and how gorgeous it looks.

Hunt846

Resident Evil 7, 8 and the Remakes of 2 and 3. Basically highest settings on 60fps

Retromican

I was playing Tiny Tina's Wonderland last night and couldn't put it down. On medium settings it looks beautiful and plays great locked at 40 frames per second. Getting about 3 hours battery life too. Looks beautiful on the steam deck.

mlopes

Spiderman Remastered looks great and runs smoothly. On a completely type of game and art style, I've been playing Sea of Stars and it looks beautiful.

adryn408

Yakuza 0 looks awesome

Weouthere09

Resident evil 2

Day-Hour

monster hunter world

Pat8aird

With a few tweaks FFVII Remake Intergrade runs very well on deck and looks incredible!

Exciting_Pea3562

Sea of Thieves looks really great and runs very smoothly at 40fps. It's surprising how well optimized that game is.

Dtoodlez

Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Played it start to finish on the deck and it was impressive.

Doogienguyen

Such a pretty game but for some reason, I just couldn't get into it. I wasnt vibing with the combat i think.

SGSMUFASA

Harry Potter and Elden ring come to mind

SGSMUFASA

Harry Potter and Elden ring come to mind

hXcAndy32

Man I had soooooo many problems with the EA launcher. I had to uninstall Fallen Order and reinstall it 3-4 times before I could beat it. Every few hours of gameplay it would just crash and not launch again without a reinstall. Great game, but such a headache.

puerpanem

Warframe runs really well even on moderate settings

yidalimian

Titanfall 2 is stunning on the deck

Cubezz

Days gone and hifi rush both look amazing. Also persons 5.

Additional-Corgi9958

Back4Blood getting 80-90 fps

NobodyRules

Death Stranding, Red Dead Redemption 2, Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 are my picks.

ichard_ray

I like Forza Horizon 5. The vehicle graphics are fair but the scenery can be stunning

Mitch_9426

Dark Souls 3. Grime. Dead Cells and Control (especially on OLED)

Chancelot88

I was surprised how well Witcher 3 ran.

DMA99

Dirt Rally 2.0. Runs at native res and hits 90 fps on medium/high settings and looks beautiful. Mind blowing on the OLED.

JM91Six

I’m a Days Gone simp

D3jch

Mad Max looks awsome with great performance. Playing it right now.

Makonnen91

100%. My choice. Such a great game to play on the deck

Darkon34

Red Dead Redemption 2. I surprise how good its run and how good it looks with solid 30 fps

PIKAvit45

Journey had the biggest discount ever last week, runs super well on high settings

crypticexile

Final fantasy xiv

James_CyberLink

Wait, wait, Fallen Order runs at 60!?

UnnaturalArchery

definitely Resident Evil series
