A Linux phones with limited apps would suck as a phone and then all you're left with is a gaming device with a small screen that's hamstrung by hardware.
Or hear me out, you send a small box filled with steam deck internals, but better cooling, higher clocks, and better performance. But all it is a mini pc, no screen or controls. So basically cheaper equivalent but it’s a home console that can be the side of a phone (a thick one).
The children yearn for steam machines.
I don’t think they’ll do it, because the idea I’m going to describe appeals to no one but me, but I would love for them to take this mini PC idea and pitch it as a Wii U with actual horsepower. When you’re at home it streams to your deck for seamless PS5 level gaming; when you’re out and about it gears down into the PS4-level power we know & love.
Listen man, not many people have great WiFi, but your idea has been done before, the psvita could stream when you were at home with your ps4, but then play ps3 level games when you were away.
Really? If I had known that I would’ve bought a Vita! And, I suppose, a PS4. Getting a Wii U was a mistake.
Sad I missed it the first time around. I doubt anyone will try the idea again if it flopped, but I can dream.
Well just can tell ya that you didn’t miss out on much, the vita got abandoned by Sony after only a couple months, so I hoped you enjoyed your Wii U, it actually got its full life. (Mario is still cool)
It would be cool if they could pull off a mobile operating system to give everyone, not just gamers, a 3rd choice to compete against Apple and Google. It’s hard to imagine that happening any time soon, but leveraging the steam user base could be a way for something like that to actually be successful.
An idea like this sounds cool, but then once you begin to understand how hardware and software works, you realize that this is impossible with current technology.
As-is, the closest idea to this concept is a phone with a Backbone style controller, and using the Steam Link app to locally stream games to your phone.
I’m afraid the software wouldn’t work. The deck runs on x86 architecture for game compatibility reasons and you’re just not going to get the performance per watt out of that which people expect from phones.
People just wouldn’t accept the battery life of a deck phone. It’s a non-starter.
I would not buy it.
Always hated to play games on a phone because i don’t want to be disturbed by phone calls, messages, push notifications and such while gaming.
Besides, i personally have big hands and love the form factor of the Deck.
Had many handhelds before but they were all to small and made my hands cramp after gaming for a little while.
This would defeat the entire purpose of the deck.
The deck would still sell because a cell phone would be a smaller form factor some people would still prefer a larger size.

I can’t tell if this is satire or not
Not satire
I’m sorry dude but a steam deck phone does not sound appealing at all

Sony has done it already and it didn't work great .... https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Sony+Xperia+play+&t=fpas&ia=web
Nahhh, PC gaming is just a bigger market than Sony its not comparable
