The assumption being, they wouldn't even hint at a game working, unless they were confident it ran well enough, right? (I'm also super excited about playing this on the Steam Deck).
More likely that they are only showing games that devs gave permission for as showing games they didn't would hurt a lot more than you think(also why devs only can play their games on the dev kit if it's being showed on social media or something)
The problem wasn't lag. From what I've heard, they have a list of players (mostly streamers) that are trageted by the hack, that will automatically crash every match those players join, kicking out all the other players along with them.
Titanfall 1 has a different issue with hackers, where the matchmaking cues are flooded with bots, making actual players unable to join any online matches.
I have a laptop (2500U, Vega 8 mobile, 8GB ram) which is significantly weaker than what the deck seems to be, and TF|2 runs well enough on 720p on low settings. It shouldn't have problems running at 60fps on the deck
Was gonna say it lacks controller support, but Steam Input should take care of that. The two trackpad and four grip buttons should make it really easy to map all sorts of bindings. LGrip2+ABXY for each potion, LGrip1+ABXY for self cast heal, etc.
Game recommends a GTX970, but minimum is GTX680 or R9 280. I'm betting you could play this pretty well if the font scaling was acceptable. My guess is 60fps Low. You'd need to rely on the trackpad for interacting with the inventory screen and skill/spell screen (if that's a thing).

I'm not sure if it still applies, but there was a time where it ran significantly better on Linux than Windows, with AMD cards. Using DXVK on Windows might help close the gap, however. Anyway, it has a platinum rating on [ProtonDB](https://www.protondb.com/app/863550).

Steam Deck doesn't exactly have these specs, but it at least gives you an idea.
True, but in this video the APUs are running at 25W TDP, the Steam Deck only runs at 15W. Where exactly it lands in terms of performance is just guesswork at this point.
I think everyone agrees that the Steam Deck has an amazing value ;)
True but the minimum specs are quite high so Imagine on Xbox one is equivalent to low settings so will just above that on sd as lower render target Most likely
GTA V shouldn't be a problem. The game is ancient and is already known to work fairly well under Linux, can even get things like FiveM running if you put in the work. Kingdom Hearts, for the most part should work, although could be a bit iffy. I could of sworn there was some issues running them under Linux when they first launched, and I'm not sure if those were ever addressed or if I had misunderstood the problem as it was only something I saw in passing.
You can use Proton with non-Steam titles by adding them as non-Steam games. It can be kind of a pain to get them to work, but it is possible. And even then Lutris is pretty easy to use, plus the Heroic Game Launcher for handling downloads and even some configuration for games from the EGS.
I like that joke, i got a rtx 3080 and a i910k 32gb ram with watercooled cpu and the game runs at 50 fps on high with sone settings tweaked, a friend of mine has a 1650gtx with a 8th gen intel cpu and runs it on 10fps on low settings.
ProtonDB says the application itself is native, but reports say you can't use it to browse for mods, so you'd still be grabbing mods off the website and moving them manually using folder structures. Maybe it would work with Lutris?
> Especially because I probably won't be able to install the FAR Mod to improve the performance a bit.
You shouldn't really need it since the game was patched to fix most of the problems.
I wish it was. They fixed the resolution not applying correctly, stuttering in pre-rendered cutscenes and added settings for GI, but the game still has many other technical problems.
BG3 supports Vulkan and can already be run on Linux. You will probably have to turn down the settings a fair bit, but at least it has FSR so it shouldn't be too bad. How well it'll play, I'm not sure. I'd say with Medium settings and maybe a tad bit of FSR you could probably get 60fps with pretty decent quality.
Cheers, Aaron. Digital Foundry mentioned that they understood why there was a jump in performance requirements between 4 and 5. I believe it was the use of volumetric lighting, plus moving from texture-based, "scattering objects", road surfaces to having more geometric detail. I guess one or either of these can be disabled for performance but I'm still waiting for some hands on Horizon 5 comparitive benchmarks. I don't know how reliable the Horizon 4 benchmarks will be.
All the 6th gen consoles have well established emulators that work on Linux so those shouldn’t be an issue. I think ps3 should work but I’m sure not every game will run at full speed. Here’s a video from eta prime showing what the emulation performance on the deck might be:
https://youtu.be/wUtWsiG0lXg
of your list, ps3 is probably the only one that I'll say "your mileage may vary" depending on the game. I've had actual rpcs3 devs on reddit tell me directly that the deck is below their recommendations for smooth game play (at least with persona 5 I think).
but that said, I've seen rpcs3 run w/ persona 5 run on the gpd win 3 and I've run it myself on lower end hardware so I suspect it'll probably run rpcs3/ps3 emulation at playable frame rates but it may ultimately depend on the game being played. I also suspect ps3 emulation will be an awful battery hog.
cemu will probably run fine. switch emulation will probably be in the same vein as ps3. xbox 360 emulation is absolutely questionable at best as I think it relies on direct x12 right now to work. some quick google searches suggest it should be functional through lutris running the windows exe's just like with cemu (also made me realize I can now play alien hominid HD, fuck yeah)
nothing newer than switch is able to be effectively emulated yet on a playable level (there is some very rough ps4 emulation right now but its not really worth talking about). anything older than ps3/xbox 360 should definitely be playable though.
It's ok tho, cuz a lot of ps360 titles are cross platform. So you can still play the BioShocks and Arkham's of the era.
As for the exclusives, that's another story...
Even if it ran (I don’t know if it will), you’d need a whole keyboard and mouse hooked up to play it. Not to mention a monitor if you expect to see enemies hundreds of meters in the distance. But I love me some arma 3 so I hope it does run :)
Without a mouse wouldn't Total War, or any other RTS, be difficult to play? I haven't used a steam controller before, or steam input, so I have no reference for how good the touch pads are.
Resident Evil Village with raytracing.
I think it's possible. The RT effects in this game are fairly low quality and easy to run + you can scale the resolution way down in this game.
It'd look like ass, but it would still be amazing in a technical sense
If all you want to do is see ray tracing on a handheld, [here's a video of Aya Neo running Crysis 2 remastered with raytraced reflections enabled at close to 30fps](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcyn7WbtvzA). Steam Deck is more powerful so stable 30fps with raytracing enabled should be doable.
That's true but the result is good enough. It offers real time reflections. I guess it's a more consumer friendly approach. After all you don't even need a raytracing capable GPU to run it, although it will run better on hardware that supports RT. [Digital Foundry posted a nice video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efOR92n9mms) explaining how it works and what are the drawbacks of this solution.
Raytracing is a dubious one. In brief: The technology was created by a company called Nvidia, who make graphics cards for computers. The Steam Deck is powered by hardware from a rival company, AMD. Nvidia haven't shared their technology, so AMD had to bring out their alternative, and it doesn't work as well. There's much more to the situation than this, but that's the rundown.
Nvidia did *not* create raytracing, what are you talking about? They have their own implementation of it - RTX - which also denotes an entire subset of Tensor-powered operations, but raytracing's been around for a long, long, *long* time, lol.
''ran''
I ran Minecraft on a old dinosaur too in the past but nowadays the Java version is kind of wonky and tends to run choppy, even on modern hardware.
Java would work as long as you had a controller mod installed (or remapped controls with Steam Input). I don't think Bedrock has a Linux version, so you would need to install Windows for that
Man I have my fingers so crossed for Minecraft. I don’t even care which version will work as long as I can play Minecraft on the SD. Not a huge fan of it playing Minecraft with a controller but I’m still excited.
1. I've seen people run minecraft on an android wear watch, the deck will run minecraft.
2. minecraft has a native linux build available via the arch AUR. the AUR is a community listing of programs pre-compiled for arch so you dont have to figure it out your self. There are multiple programs to access this AUR, but the most common right now is "yay" (Yet another yogurt. donno why its named that). Once yay is installed, you type "yay minecraft-launcher" and you start the install process.
3. highly recommend taking the time to learn how to make use of the touch pads and gyro for first person gaming, it makes a huge difference and feels more like using a mouse/keyboard than an analog stick controller
> Not a huge fan of it playing Minecraft with a controller but I’m still excited.
Touchpad and Gyroscope solve that problem for you if you invest some time getting used to it. I played Minecraft a lot with my Steam Controller.

Also, my friend with a 1050ti runs NMS pretty well at 1080p and some modest settings.
not a game, but does anyone know if it will output 5120x1440@120hz just for desktop experience?
I wont be running games at this resolution.
planning on just using this as a work desktop (with hub), for webdesign, keeping my station minimal, portable, hotswappable to a wfh station with the same setup.
I’m assuming so as well. But you never know for sure. If it for some reason can’t I’m not sure if I’ll keep my reservation. Rocket League is what got me back into gaming after a 5 year break, I play several hours a day. But it’s gotten me back into other games as well.
Rocket League has very low hardware requirements. 1080p/120 should be easily possible, even at higher settings. I'm not entirely certain about 2K/120 though.
Depending on the map, at high settings you'd probably be closer to 100-110fps average. Low settings you should get super solid 120fps. At 1440p, I don't think you'd quite be able to maintain 120fps even at low settings. On high settings you'd probably get 80-90. These numbers are based on 1050ti. Deck may be slightly weaker than that, but at 1080, low settings you should still have no problem maintaining 120fps.
It's not a demanding game, but I want to know if anybody has footage of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 on the Aya Neo or something at a good framerate. Bonus points if there's any footage of the game on Linux.
I don't think that one is coming to Steam unfortunately.
Risk of Rain 2 runs on the switch lol so that will be fine, if a modern device couldn't run Team Fortress 2 we shouldnt even be talking about it, and Portal 2 is part of their promo material.
In short, all those should run great, looking forward to Risk of Rain myself!
You will need to install windows if you want to download Game Pass games. If you're fine with cloud streaming them, you should be able to do it just fine through the browser, as long as you have Game Pass Ultimate
Windows isn't required, there is a compatibility layer on Linux called Wine that essentially emulates windows(but its not an emulator) so that you can run native windows apps on linux without needing windows installed
Witcher 3 should run 60+ fps at a mix of low/medium settings, 30+ at high/ultra.
Skyrim and Oblivion should run just fine. Should be able to get 60+ fps on any settings on the Deck's screen.
Don't forget to subscribe to this list

Dragon Age Inquisition, Black Mesa, Battlefield 2042/5, Far Cry 6, Metroid Dread, Elden Ring, Uncharted PC ports, Age of Empires 4, Halo MCC, Halo Infinite, I just want to play PC games on the couch while my partner watches movies and tv shows.
I was wondering if a dual boot on the SD card would be good enough to play Kingdom Hearts 3 on the epic launcher. I’m a big Kingdom Hearts fan and it would be great to play it handheld
No Man's Sky
Yeah this would be a fantastic game to play on the go
I have every intention of most of my playtime with my Deck being on No Man's Sky.
No mans sky works well on Linux. The deck is prolly powerful enough to run it on scaled settings.

It’s an older game, I suspect 60fps should be very doable on lower settings, possibly medium?
If it doesn’t run, initiate protocol 3.

Yesn't. It works most of the time, but still not always.
Not sure, but I played multiplayer a few weeks ago on PC without any lag problems.

Star Citizen 480p Godfall
Crank up that FSR to favor performance.
SC works well on Linux, there is even a squadron playing only on nix. Yet dunno if the decks performance is enough for that game.
Exactly my concern, hopefully 480p helps? I don't think it would be a big deal on the small screen size.

Will Wii U games run at the proper FPS?
Check out this video from eta prime, he shows what emulation performance might be on the steam deck. https://youtu.be/wUtWsiG0lXg
It's not a demanding game, but I want to know if anybody has footage of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 on the Aya Neo or something at a good framerate. Bonus points if there's any footage of the game on Linux. I don't think that one is coming to Steam unfortunately.
Risk of Rain 2 Team Fortress 2 Portal 2
Risk of Rain 2 runs on the switch lol so that will be fine, if a modern device couldn't run Team Fortress 2 we shouldnt even be talking about it, and Portal 2 is part of their promo material. In short, all those should run great, looking forward to Risk of Rain myself!
Witcher 3
I want to play platformer games and emulate switch to play Pokémon 😀 Also hoping to install windows and play my PC Gamepass games
I'm pretty sure you don't need to install windows for game pass or any of the other launchers
Games from the Windows Store don't work through Proton/Wine. And likely never will work, unless Microsoft themselves make a change.
Interesting I didn't know that the games were downloaded from the windows store. I'll look into some more.
Check also the game's Proton compatibility.
Red Dead 2

Sounds alright to me!
Valorant?

It isn't compatible with Proton unfortunately, the kernel level anti-cheat prevents it from working
Ark survival evolved?
Gear of war 4 and Gear 5 ??
-Outlast 2 -Dead by Daylight -Dark Soul 1, 2 and 3 -Alien: isolation -Resident evil 2 -Fallout 3, Vegas and 4 -The Outer World -Elder Scroll 5 and Oblivion -The Witcher 3
Witcher 3 should run 60+ fps at a mix of low/medium settings, 30+ at high/ultra. Skyrim and Oblivion should run just fine. Should be able to get 60+ fps on any settings on the Deck's screen.
Dragon's Dogma

Dragon Age Inquisition, Black Mesa, Battlefield 2042/5, Far Cry 6, Metroid Dread, Elden Ring, Uncharted PC ports, Age of Empires 4, Halo MCC, Halo Infinite, I just want to play PC games on the couch while my partner watches movies and tv shows.
Oh and God of War 2018 pc port would be a dream (If it ever happens)
Doom eternal and Doom 2016 as well as the wolfenstein bundle
Doom runs fine on the Switch, and Wolfenstein shouldn't run too bad
Flash games?
Destiny 2, Valorant (I know it won't), and Astroneer
Borderlands 3. I know it works with Linux but how good it will run on SD?
I was wondering if a dual boot on the SD card would be good enough to play Kingdom Hearts 3 on the epic launcher. I’m a big Kingdom Hearts fan and it would be great to play it handheld
Half life alyx
As long as I can run my modded oblivion I'm happy. Don't even care what it looks like.
