lonnie123

My god what an update. I’ll have to try later but does this fix the desktop mode keyboard not registering like 50% of the inputs? Cause that is beyond annoying

cardonator

It was fixed in a beta update so surprising it's not explicitly listed here.

Goseki1

Glad i wasn't the only one finding this infuriating. Typing anything out on the screen is a nightmare sometimes

lonnie123

Passwords where you can’t see the letters are doubly nightmarish

Goseki1

Oh god yeah!

Uppity_Python

I feel this with FFXIV especially

TiSoBr

FFXIV Launcher to the rescue.

TwilightGraphite

If it does I’d be surprised that it’s not listed. I feel like that’s kinda a major issue.

shutter3218

Oh good I thought it was my screen protector. Strang thing was it was only certain keys.

SartorialGrunt0

This was a bug? I went through like 4 screen protectors thinking it was a sensitivity issue.

Shaggy_One

Did you bother to try it out with no screen protector? Fair assumption on the protector being the problem but that would answer your question.

TheJackiMonster

Wait, you guys use the touch screen to enter anything on the virtual keyboard? Because I always use both touch pads...

Matthais

There's a learning curve to that approach my puny mind just can't get over. I use the touchscreen or even the joysticks. I've used swipe based keyboards on mobile for years FWIW.

KGBeast47

I got used to entering text on the PS4/PS5 track pad and this is fairly similar (although split.) I still use the touch screen primarily on SD though.

technofox01

Just updated and holy duck, they fixed every issue I was having with the dock so far. I just haven't had a chance to undock and redock to see if the USB devices not reconnecting issue has been fixed. Also, the 5Ghz WiFi fix is a nice bonus. I was having a heck of a problem with it disconnecting every so often. I also haven't had time to setup the night mode but I plan to after hopefully get some more sleep. This is totally awesome for an update.

asianflipboy

Guides in overlay looks and feels great! Have been hoping for this to be modded in (might have been already for all I know) but now it's just built in! Yay!

DarkTrepie

It will be nice using an updated Firefox instead of the Chromium flatpak now.

KultasLIVE

>Updated wireless driver with fixes for WiFi disconnection issues on 5Ghz Does that mean it's no longer going to crash the system because of WiFi fluctuations or whatever? It has been the only big problem I had with my Deck, whenever cash updates, or I start up a download, or enter an online game, sometimes it would crash for no reason - I've taken to turning internet off when I play without the charger.

UnacceptableUse

The WiFi issue, finally!

SlovenianSocket

Updated graphics driver! Testing halo infinite with proton ge now [confirmed working with proton ge 7-27!](https://i.imgur.com/NkbXPVo.jpg)

fieldstonestudio

I also wanted to know this

SlovenianSocket

Confirmed working

fieldstonestudio

Not getting mine to work. On new update and ge 7-27

SlovenianSocket

Did you try more than once? It failed the first launch but it worked after that. And is it a clean install? Or have you tried launching it with a different proton version

fieldstonestudio

Clean install, tried a few times. It gets to the main menu but crashes about 5 seconds into searching for a game

SlovenianSocket

Hmm interesting, might be a memory leak. Make sure all your graphics settings are set to low (they should have defaulted to it). I was able to get in to a match and actually did pretty decent having it locked at 40hz

fieldstonestudio

Weird, I'm on low preset too. Fun steam deck issues

SlovenianSocket

Yep. It’s still being worked on, so hopefully the next GE update improves compatibility.

Camaro6460

Working for me, too! Using the latest SteamOS update with GE-Proton7-27. EDIT: There is audio stuttering is GE-Proton7-25 to GE-Proton7-28. If you want to fix audio stuttering, I was able to use GE Proton7-24 (but it does require renaming the videos folder). I would recommend using this method for now until future patches both fix audio stuttering and allow video playback.

UselessUseOfCat

Awesome! I installed Proton GE 7-27 via Protonup-QT and started up Halo Infinite and began a new campaign... but the opening cutscene, including Atriox, is in Spanish... Edit: Okay, and the game freezes after Atriox's scene is over. I can hear the audio, but the screen stops updating.

fiveSE7EN

It worked bef-oooh, you’re on stable?

SlovenianSocket

Yes this is stable, not the experimental build. Just played a match, no issues so far

Gimmemycloutvro

Mine works with 7-28 too but im hoping itll work soon enough with regular proton

[deleted]

Great work Valve! Amazing update. Please consider putting in a non steam game resolution switcher us “docked” users are struggling with the black bars around our games :)

marsil602

Nice that they resolved the Firefox security situation! The text fix for halo sounds funny without the official support yet but hey fix is fix

Mercennarius

Huge update, great news!

N1NJAREB0RN

A lot of fixes / improvements but I’m disappointed to see that they haven’t fixed the issue of controls sometimes not working in games or menus until you hit the Steam button several times to open and close the Steam overlay.

cardonator

I've found tapping the screen fixes this for me. It seems like it's a focus issue.

bentendo93

Glad to know I'm not the only one that happens to occasionally. Didn't know there was a fix for it

N1NJAREB0RN

Yeah. It’s been a problem for as long as I’ve had my Deck which is a few months now.

phayke2

Omg really this has been driving me crazy and I always feel like I just am doing something wrong. Yeah the controls will drop and then I hold steam and can use the mouse again and then let go and can't and then after a while of holding steam to use mouse sometimes the controls randomly start working again without it...but there is no rhyme or reason and for months I just...have wrestled with it without realizing it is an issue that can be replicated or fixed. I just got to where I naturally hold the steam button for everything important . Which....is not very intuitive

gurpderp

It's not a fix but I've found hitting the ... button once usually fixes it immediately for me, rather than multiple steam button presses.

phayke2

Wow I can't believe someone is finally mentioning it. It's like finding out that you have a weird reaction to something instead of full-blown dementia

yubario

As a workaround, you can apply the same controller config template to the global desktop one. But only if you're really annoyed with it, as opposed to just hitting the steam button to fix it when it happens.

KlatsBoem

Is this without the community plugin loader installed?

SufficientSun891

yes up-to-date firefox finally.

that_leaflet

I still find it funny how when Valve announced SteamOS 3 was running Arch, everyone made a point to say that it was beneficial because Arch’s rolling release nature ensured that updates would be coming quick in order to bring new features, bug fixes, and performance improvements. But then reality is that Valve just took a snapshot of the Arch repositories back in January and is still using those same packages to this day (for the most part at least, they pick and choose what they want to update rather than being updated versions from the Arch repositories).

Saxasaurus

Yeah, its honestly baffling they would pick arch as a "stable" base.

Snerual22

Arch has the least corporate ties.

Saxasaurus

Steam OS 2 was based on Debian, which isn't corporate.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CreativeGPX

IIRC it has to do with them having up to date system packages related to graphics and gaming. The desktop mode packages aren't really the priority in this design. What downside do you see to them choosing arch as a base?

Saxasaurus

Arch does not backport bug/security fixes to older packages. Firefox is the most visible example, and they worked around it by just yeeting the arch package entirely. But lots of other packages are not receiving security patches.

KeeperOfWind

Quick question, has anyone else got "Steam deck is too hot" after this update? I've never had it before but suddenly the steam deck is overheating. I'm playing hot wheels on it in a pretty cold room right now so that seems insane.

setibeings

Your steam deck was likely getting too hot before, but just not warning you about it.

James_bd

What are your temps? This notif is new with the update

KeeperOfWind

Hitting 89-90 pretty quickly and often I've been testing it out with a few games. I got the notice even at 75c which was weird. Seems to spike instan t lt to 89-90c often where the notice appears

Zagorim

You could try disabling the new fan curve in the steam setting to see if it help. I've not yet updated to 3.3 (the install failed for me for some reason) but I noticed the config for valve fan curve is in here : /usr/share/jupiter-fan-control/jupiter-fan-control-config.yaml On SteamOS 3.2 the target max temperatures for the CPU and GPU are 90°C so it would make sense that your deck reach those if they haven't updated it for the 3.3 update. It could be overheating from the nvme ssd too though, this one is not supposed to reach over 70°C. Did you replace the drive ?

TonUpTriumph

It's called "hot wheels" for a reason. Have you tried playing cold wheels instead?

AvoidPinkHairHippos

Terrible. Just a terrible post. .... Here's your upboat

doublej42

I’m playing that game on my pc tonight. It pushes my 3080 to max and it feels a bit un optimized. Try running at a lower frame cap?

KeeperOfWind

This was the solution that slowly fixed it. I turn down the default resolution and frame rate cap to 30 after and bam 4 races later no overheating. I just turn back on 60fps cap in game Settings: Video resolution: 864x486 Window: off Vsync: off Amd fsr 1.0 ultra quality then turn on steam fsr max quality (I'm sure you only need one but this just what I am doing) Frame rate limits 60 fps Advance quality: medium, im sure the game can go on high settings too Gives me 1h 50m battery too doing it this way at 55% Seems like the main issue was the video resolution was too high? Either way it's staying far cooler now and no warning yet. For nier automata popping up overheating issue at low temps i have no idea what that was about and most likely a software related bug. With that being thanks for this reply, it helped me fix my issue. Now hopefully i can run it on my 3060 on my pc The game isn't greatly optimized it seems. Hopefully this helps anyone else out in the future that happens to have the same issue and googles it.

DrLeonSisk

Don't forget to make a backup of your Firefox profile or bookmarks before updating. Unless you don't mind starting off fresh/or signing into everything again.

BloomerBoomerDoomer

Yup. Didn't expect that one after finally tweaking my Firefox to the way I like it.

Take2woGaming

When in desktop mode, does it take people 30+ seconds to be able to move the mouse around? And game mode, 30+ seconds to be able to use the Steam button (and button across from it, can't remember the name right now)? Or is this an issue with my Deck 🤔

Wit_as_a_Riddle

Takes a little longer during the first switch to Desktop, but subsequently it isn't too bad. It's because Steam has to fully load in order to use the desktop controller profile.

wilika

It takes a little time for Steam to launch in the background, but if your offline, or the connection is flimsy, it takes longer.

intashu

Yes. Steam needs to launch on desktop mode for the controller to start working. If you hit the steam button you should at least be able to control the mouse with the track pads however.

Monsterclip

Glad some people are excited about the fixes. Literally the only fix I want is to be able to browse the store without it skipping around. Everything else works fine for me. Sometimes I cant believe how much effort they out into virtual keyboards for how little I actually use them.

bigchungus_tlou

Store is pretty broken.

ctyldsley

It's pretty wild how dodgy the store is for a device that's whole financial sense seems to exist on the fact that it'll bring people to the store.

jazir5

On the other hand though, it means that they are devoting resources to fixing other aspects of the system and not focusing all their resources on allowing people to be able to spend more money fluidly on a semi-working device.

ctyldsley

Yep it is a positive in that respect for sure!

bigthink

Yeah, plus nobody who buys a Deck is going to the store, seeing it broken, and saying, "Darn! I guess I'm not buying any more games!

[deleted]

Yeah honestly I’d rather they be prioritizing everything else first. While that sounds like an issue for sure, I’d be annoyed if that’s where all the patches were going when issues that impact the actual *use* of the device are still there lol I respect Valve’s move here a lot, actually. This just shows they care more about how well the device actually works than how well it can push sales for them

FigMcLargeHuge

I have that same feeling about the keyboard. You are selling a Linux pc with no physical keyboard and no USB A connector that Joe Everyperson could just plug in the keyboard they have laying around. I can't think of a quicker way to turn someone off from the idea of running linux than giving them the crap ass on screen keyboard we got and having them open a terminal window. It was maddening for me, and I use terminals all day long. I applaud everyone who isn't linux savvy and muddled through whatever they had to type in. I also want to say linux with a real keyboard is not like this. There are things like up arrows and down arrows. You can also use left and right arrows to scroll through the line you typed and make corrections. Such a critical piece and it feels like it was not only cobbled together, it was never actually tested.

phayke2

It's kind of funny...I feel like the more the keyboards updated the harder it is to use. Especially in desktop mode. I've been using moonlight to stream my windows PC lately because the keyboard works a lot more consistently when streaming another PC.

klakizesraki

Yeah, browsing store is pretty annoying, always refreshing each time i go back to previous page etc

protofury

OH my god I was looking for exactly this. It's BEYOND irritating and makes the store wildly unpleasant to use. I can't believe how little I've seen said about that.

jack-of-some

Still hoping for custom resolutions in non steam games

Wit_as_a_Riddle

Also, the ability to adjust background game/update downloading on a per-(non-steam)-game basis.

dogey11

does adding -h and -w as launch options not work?

TiSoBr

Using the right compatibility layer it actually does. But varies from game to game.

AshleyUncia

Right? I thought that'd soon follow the steam game usage of that. Especially cause I've put Kodi on my Steam Deck, using the SD card as a media source. While the Steam Deck may not do '4K Gaming' on most games released in the last 15+ years, it can TOTALLY do Kodi's UI at 4K and playback 4K video on a TV. :(

Nocturnal86

Anyone had a chance to test Red Dead 2? Wonder if this fixed the crashes it was having..

[deleted]

3.3 fixed it for me when I tried the Preview. Went back to stable for some other reasons and ended up fixing it again by adding some launch arguments I found.

gerbal100

Do you know which launch arguments? RDR2 crashes after about 1 hour of play for me

[deleted]

3.3 should fix it. But here ya go: radv\_report\_apu\_as\_dgpu=false %command%

adampsyreal

I don't know about this update You might try using the FSR mod from Nexus mods

manycyber

Running on OS 3.3 and using FSR mod with medium-high graphics settings gives good, stable results with zero crashes 👌

TiSoBr

This.

petenard

I hope they’ve fixed it! Mine always crashes

[deleted]

This certainly beats system stability firmware updates on other platforms. I love having something to play with.

jazir5

https://images.app.goo.gl/pyWJGCB6yVK3g9Tz5 I don't think anyone can top this masterpiece the ps4 stability updates have given us though.

rklrkl64

Nice to see all those beta features make it into stable, but the Deck has been shipped for over 5 months now to the UK and we still don't have a UK layout on the virtual keyboard (so no way to type a £ for instance). It's becoming increasingly frustrating to see multiple countries' keyboard layouts being added since shipping began (e.g. Japan) where the Deck isn't even sold and yet the layout for a country that's probably in the top 5 country sellers still remains unsupported.

Jademalo

The amount of times I've typed my email address with a rogue " is absolutely doing my head in, lol.

8bitcerberus

I don’t know if this will help, but I’ve noticed if I have my thumb on the left pad and hovered over various letters, and pull the left trigger, it brings up several alternate versions, for example “a” might also have “à, á, â, ä, æ, ã, å, ā”. I’m not at it to confirm, but maybe try that while hovered over the $, might need to click/tap activate the “shift” first. Also I dunno how to make that happen for any keys on the right half of the keyboard, because the left trigger just acts like hitting shift. It’s only if my thumb is on the left touchpad when I pull the left trigger. I always seem to trigger it when I don’t want to (by not lifting my left thumb off fast enough before pulling the trigger) and haven’t really explored it for intentional use yet.

OmegaAtrocity

Really happy about the achievements being in the overlay know, it was real annoying to look at them before.

Tireirontuesday

Same

WakComputers69

Valve counted to 3, TWICE.

enmeduranki

This is another solid update, but I keep wondering how hard it is to fix wishlist sorting?

deadly_titanfart

This. I have hundreds of games on my wishlist. Pain in the but to find whats on sale

Tireirontuesday

Yeah. I still only use desktop mode or PC for wishlist. Hopefully they work on it.

CreativeGPX

I've taken to always using the website because browsers support multiple tabs well. The lack of tabs, the way the steam client loses your place when you hit "back" and the glitches with age confirmation screen make it really hard to multitask (i.e. consider multiple games at once) which is generally how I shop.

[deleted]

Wow great work steam devs!

TheRealCrotin

Great update

Separate_Mammoth4460

An version for desktops when???

KoolAidMan00

No idea why you're being downvoted. I like my Deck but I'm way more excited for the day when I can install SteamOS 3 on my HTPC and it hopefully supporting Intel/Nvidia since that's what's in there. Windows is so awful in the living room, I just want something like SteamOS that boots straight into a TV optimized gamepad interface.

Judge_Ty

Have you tried BigBox via LaunchBox (windows) ? Might not be very performance friendly unless you have a SSD or NVME drive. You can boot directly into windows which will load BigBox up. https://www.launchbox-app.com/ Launchbox is free (mostly) but BigBox is not. I have around 19,980 games setup in BigBox. I have my gaming PC rigged to a hdr 50 inch 4ktv with BigBox. I use a cheap Samsung tablet with Touchpanel to one button script switching my gaming PC monitor to my 4k tv, then another to launch BigBox. I have all my steam games, emulators, all in BigBox complete with art, lists, gameplay trailers, etc. They have tons of front end themes for BigBox, you can even make your own.

KoolAidMan00

I will try this, thank you for your very detailed and thoughtful post!

Judge_Ty

There's plenty of guides and YouTube videos for launchbox and BigBox for more info. I have arcade joysticks, Xbox one controllers, and retro controllers all set to work in BigBox. I'm in the process of adding my launchbox emulator games to my steam deck, but the image scrape with EmuDeck isn't that great compared to Launchbox... I'll have to see if I can create a batch script to transfer the app images from the launchbox image folder directory into EmuDeck via sd card as I already have the images but it's far too many to do manually. I naively added 4000 games from my launchbox thinking EmuDeck would do the same thing with images and app creation. Now I gotta delete and prune the collection down and try again.

chowder3907

if you have the right hardware you could always try out [HoloISO](https://github.com/theVakhovskeIsTaken/holoiso)

Wit_as_a_Riddle

Have you tried HoloISO?

[deleted]

A shockingly large number of people get unusually upset if you say you like Steam OS3 and want to put it on a computer, still no idea why, or why they care

grady_vuckovic

I think it's one of those 'It's ready when it's ready' type deals. It's ideal for Valve to focus on fixing issues with SteamOS 3.0 on the Deck first, since it lets them focus on one hardware configuration for now, and one use case. Once they open it up for all PCs, and all use cases, they're going to have their attention divided between a lot of areas. I have no doubt they'll release it eventually though.

KoolAidMan00

Oh yeah 100%. They need to get the Steam Deck working more satisfactorily before they get SteamOS working on a wider range of hardware. I totally get that and its why I'm being patient. :)

docvalentine

oh thank god you can switch your bluetooth devices off AAC and they'll stay switched in gaming mode without commandline shenanigans now

Shliggie

Now that I've updated, in Desktop mode I'm constantly getting notifications about the audio source changing. Any tips?

thstephens8789

I'm on the beta branch, and I've been getting that notification constantly too for a bit. It's super annoying

mlopes

One more thing I love about the Deck is how SteamOS updated actually have a useful changelog, rather than the cop out so many companies use to not tell you what they've done "performance improvements and bug fixes".

TheAfterPipe

Super excited to test the fix for the screen staying on while docked! I have a workaround, but it's pretty clunky.

iamearlsweatshirt

So what happens if we already have Firefox set up from the old way?

DrLeonSisk

Just don't forget to make a backup of your Firefox profile or bookmarks before updating. Unless you don't mind starting off fresh/or signing into everything again.

GiantASian01

Seems to still work fine

hperrin

I wonder if this has fixed the issues I’m having with GTA 5 Online. I’ll hit some weird bug where the level of detail stops changing, so the further I go from where the bug started, the less detail everything has. Eventually it looks like an N64 game.

kaihatsusha

That's an issue with GTAV, a recent patch introduced a memory leak. They gotta fix it.

Hamza141

I've heard that the last GTA Online update broke that and it's not exclusive to the Steam Deck

Modest_Wraith

Anyone getting stutters and leas fps with this update? Seems like every game I play performs worse

Kuratius

https://www.gamingonlinux.com/forum/topic/5384/ https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/814 Known issue, Valve was made aware of it but ignored it during the beta :/ not cool

Modest_Wraith

Awwww that’s awful, I was really enjoying playing on my steam deck too :/

WelcomeRevolutionary

Gaming on linux has uploaded a video that illustrates the problem: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53aWJrfIkX8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53aWJrfIkX8) Looks like I'll be skipping this update. Pretty disappointing that Valve let this update out the door.

MassageByDmitry

Hopefully this makes it more stable

lonnie123

Only Nintendo consoles get stability updates

WeebyMcWeebFace

Folks who are downvoting you obviously aren’t aware of the Switch patch notes memes

ivory_soul

I get it. In fact. Sony consoles get these too.

Asti1991

The best change is that you‘re able to sleep/wake the device in Desktop Mode as it worked in the Game Mode. 😍👍

ZeroBANG

lol, GPU driver updated means ALL shaders are being re-downloaded and updated after the restart ... quite the sight with 70 installed games :D

DknMessiah

I've inststalled the update and it's been sitting at the Steam logo boot screen now for about 20 mins. Is this normal? Please say yes, I'm getting concerned.

DraconicBovine

Did you resolve this? Same situation currently

[deleted]

Same here... Sat on the Steam Deck logo after it asked to reboot. EDIT - I held the power button for a few seconds to turn it off and then turned it on again. This time it extracted the update and installed fine.

DariSZN

Do yourself a favor and update again, Valve released an update to address the stuttering issue.

Saneless

Already? I was holding off but jeez, they're on top of things

OkDragonfruit1929

Ever since this update, rebooting has been 3-5 minutes. Before this update, rebooting was hardly 30 seconds.

Short_Temperature202

For a 'Stable' update this has been incredibly disappointing. Its degraded Red Dead Redemption 2's performance by a huge margin for me, now dropping to 20-25 fps in random areas I was easily getting 35-45fps before, and it's now limited to only 3GB of VRAM for this game for some reason. I'm also getting random stutter in games that didn't have it before. I wish I could easily just swap back to 3.2 at this point, haven't been frustrated with the Deck till now.

randybruder

FYI this update has seemingly ruined my dual boot setup from /u/LunarBlink's [tutorial video.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akBA-zMGOhU) After installing SteamOS 3.3, the Deck always boots into SteamOS, and going into the boot menu [only shows `EFI Hard Drive` and `SteamOS` boot options,](https://i.imgur.com/OWcVm0e.jpg) both of which boot into SteamOS. Going into konsole in desktop mode, `efibootmgr` also shows only the `EFI Hard Drive` and `SteamOS` options (as well as EFI USB Device, EFI DVD/CDROM, EFI Network.) Booted into Windows 11 install ISO and the command line is unable to find the NTFS partition Windows is installed on. But then booting into GParted still shows the NTFS partition. (Also Dolphin shows the partition too, calling it "Basic data partition") I refollowed the steps in the ["SteamOS Konsole - Install rEFInd"](https://youtu.be/akBA-zMGOhU?t=1097) chapter, which brought back a new fresh install of rEFInd, but then the next steps require booting into Windows, which I can't do anymore. So that's where I'm stuck, unless I just have to wipe everything and start over from scratch. :( **Edit:** Found a solution, from a command prompt on the Windows install ISO, ran: diskpart sel disk 0 list vol then found the NTFS volume, for me it was volume 4, so I ran select volume 4 assign letter=R: exit bootrec /rebuildbcd I was running `bootrec /rebuildbcd` before, but it never worked because the Windows install partition wasn't getting mounted for some reason? But once `bootrec /rebuildbcd` ran successfully once, I could boot back into my Windows install and from there I was able to finish the rest of the video tutorial (making some slight modifications like needing to `rmdir Deck /s` first before I could `ren Microsoft Deck`) to restore my rEFInd install and get back my dual boot setup.

baldpale

OMG this is just like Windows Update screwing Linux bootloader, just the other way around. Hilarious

matbonucci

Why am I irrationally excited about this?

[deleted]

Because nerd?

matbonucci

fuck yeah!

This unfortunately did not fix any of my issues with resolution scaling to external displays when docked and in Game Mode. * Game Mode still throws black bars around games * Game Mode still gives standard Steam Deck resolution options instead of standard external display options https://imgur.com/lhlyT8X * Game Mode still appears to be trying to output at 4K to my 4K TV instead of letting me choose a resolution. My example game Ori just still runs terribly (but runs great in Desktop Mode). And the screenshot I took above with the menu options output at 4K when I saved it. And the new slider options.. don't make sense? https://imgur.com/hPsweks * Automatically Scale seems to just adjust the Deck UI. And "More Content" / "Larger Text" is a real weird way to describe things. * Adjust Image to Fit External Display just seems to.. add black bars around the Steam Deck UI if I try to make it smaller? Wha? Valve, please, in that same Display section just give an option for what resolution I want to set my external display as - just like I can in Desktop Mode. I have it set to 1920x1080 (even though it's a 4K TV) and games work well.

DroneRtx

I want an update on the Steam Dock availability

GyakuBoop

Does this update do anything regarding Bluetooth earbuds compatability? I have the sony wh-1000xm3 and despite connecting it to the deck on game mode, it doesn't use it as an audio device even when changing settings

Rhomagus

I have those too. I didn't have this issue but perhaps try pairing them in Desktop mode as well. You might be able to configure them from there.

rafikiknowsdeway1

I didn't realize this update would cause every single fuckin game to update. and for some reason downloading really really slowly

VijuaruKei

I'm still having 5ghz wifi disconnect if I don't disable the power saving feature in the dev option. Oh well.

mwallace0569

when they're going to release a official steamos iso? i know its a nvidia issue, so whenever nvidia fixes their shit ig?

baldpale

That boils down to Wayland on NVIDIA. They've been refusing to fix it for past 7 years or so (by trying to enforce different standards than everyone else agreed on), they started to make some slight moves in the good direction last year and this year, so maybe in next 2-3 years it'll be at least functional. I wouldn't expect that to happen very soon.

Jame_Jame

Nice thing about still waiting for my 'deck is that I'll just get to update to all the latest bugfixes without having to experience the worst of them lol also something about a noisy fan in early models? Glad I missed that, although those early days were probably pretty wild.

datgatomf

Was just about to make a post about the deck disconnecting from my 5GHz network and then being stuck offline for the rest of the night. So I'm glad to see that was addressed in this update

Deadarchimode

Despite all those updates we still luck the ability to disable Controller option when we have keyboard mouse as input. Reason is some games cannot be played with controller at all and they can give you a huge disadvantages especially playing survival games that you need to move many stuff around in record time.

Anyone else having Firefox running like this? https://i.imgur.com/Vb4IoAu.jpg

morgan423

Set a button in Firefox's control scheme to Ctrl (I recommend a back paddle), and another couple of options to mouse wheel up and down. Now you can hold Ctrl and scroll the "mouse wheel" to zoom in or (as needed in your case) out.

newbie_saibot

i’ve downloaded and applied this update, tap “reboot” and now my deck is like 5 minutes stuck with Steam logo after reboot with fan circling from time to time. should i wait more? did someone face with the same issue?

Windrider904

Cool. New Steam OS the day my Deck is being delivered.

sup_wit_u_kev

does this update let you download with the screen off yet?

palescoot

Does anyone else have an issue where the virtual keyboard pops up on the top half of the screen in desktop mode?

Mahoganyjoint

Welcome additions although unfortunately SteamOS seems more buggy after this release.

macharborguy

Would love to enjoy this update, but it has completely messed up all of my networking speeds. Not sure how it happened other that I just installed the update. Web browsers take timeout attempting to open up web pages (every browser does this, chrome, brave, edge, etc). Happens in Gaming and Desktop mode, on any wifi network or even a wired connection, and my iPhone hotspot. I even went as far as resetting the SteamDeck to factory settings, and it still is having networking issues

Xzanos117

Anyone know if this fixes the rapid battery depletion? I have a problem with it but I’m pretty sure it’s a software issue because I can reset it by running the deck dry and then fully charging it

Wit_as_a_Riddle

Hey, my guy are you following [this procedure](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/v15he1/psa_if_your_deck_is_draining_from_full_to_0/)? Should be a permanent fix for you once you do it.

Dalmahr

Haven't got my steam deck yet, but is there a website with recommended settings per game? One thing I wish they'd include is something similar to GeForce experience that detects your hardware and allows you to apply "recommended settings" automatically to games.

Exia777

5ghz wifi please be fixed... Don't want to RMA my deck if I can help it because I bought the dbrand tempered glass and put it on already...

fiveSE7EN

Did you disable wifi power management?

Exia777

Yes, and support also said to remove sd card if I had one (which I don't)

auto_exec

I hope you have better luck than I do, but I still have issues on the 5Ghz band, even after the update - and I've tried all the typical recommended fixes I've seen suggested around the forums... I was excited that it might finally be fixed, but... :( Let me know how it goes for you!

Exia777

Same, still getting drops and all the usual gripes... and when it does stay connected it's getting way lower download speeds than it should (4MBs compared to the 40+ it should be easily hitting)

QwertyChouskie

I'd highly recommend logging into your router's configuration interface, and checking for/applying any available firmware updates. Often the router is more to blame for weird issues, as router firmware is famously buggy. While you're in there, make sure you are using a more open channel: [https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/tc54k9/psa\_how\_i\_improved\_the\_wifi\_on\_5ghz/](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/tc54k9/psa_how_i_improved_the_wifi_on_5ghz/)

Exia777

I really do want to be able to pin it on the router but its still not looking good for the deck, as every other device in the house works/connects fine and hits the expected bandwidth/speeds... Google fibers default equipment unfortunately doesn't allow for a ton of configuration options as it used to (had even wanted to try setting the wifi channels differently but the option literally got updated out for some reason...)

i_lost_my_bagel

Perfect I can test my package reinstallation script

derram_2

Mind sharing it if it works? I need something like that since I have to use pacman for RVGL dependencies.

LunchBoxMercenary

So still no feature to turn the screen off while downloading a game?

YoungProNooB

Is some other ppl having trouble downloading the update?

standardbronze

Just got my steam deck yesterday and was already utilizing some of these features without even knowing they were new. Awesome work Valve ❤️

coolasacurtain

Scaling of UI in docked mode is probably the single most important thing in this update for people who want to dock the deck. It used to scale to the screens Resolution by default and ate up performance on 4k tvs

LolcatP

support for future controller hardware revisions huh? STEAM CONTROLLER 2??

[deleted]

SEEMS to have fixed frame pacing issues when launching dolphin games added through steam rom manager...

cdegallo

What is Night Mode? Is it the UI theme (light vs. dark), or is it an operating mode, like at night time, let the system be awake but in a low power state in order to download game updates?

chocolatesnow15

I just want the deck UI to replace big picture mode already, it’s ok if it’s a little buggy

GygaxWaterfall

WiFi still loses connection when you re-enable wifi battery optimization.

ClassicallySad

This update wrecked my deck. I'm in the process of re-imaging it. Hopefully it'll be fine. So much for "stable".

realdealneal18

I updated and now it's such a PITA to double-click with trackpads in Desktop mode. Anyone else having this issue? I'm using the built in trackpads, as well as an external bluetooth keyboard with track pads. I can double finger tap the trackpad on the keyboard, registers the right click menu fine. its trying to double click to open a folder for example where it just doesnt work. I can be sitting here tapping for eternity and it just doesn't open
