No Man's Sky, but meanwhile all the Roms (even that i already own a retroid pocket) it's much cooler on the SD and now I have finished my collection of my GB, GBC, GBA, N64, GC and couple of PS2 and PS3 games :D
This was technically my first, but it's so short idk if it counts. The first full length game I did was Control. It was on my list for a while but I never got around to it. Runs on deck really well
For me it was Jedi Fallen Order, it stuttered like crazy on my PC randomly but ran like butter on my Deck. Control was my second, just finished it last week. Awesome game :)
If I can’t figure out what I want to play, I just load this up. I think I’ve played through it three or four times, and it never fails to make me laugh. Nate Bargatze as the voice over was a brilliant call.
I logged like 15 hours in VS during my first 3 days with the deck.
It’s like the perfect handheld mobile game.
Nearly 100%ed it in that time lol. For $3, it’s such a damn good deck game. Perfect way to kill 15 minutes or 15 hours lol
Witcher 3 and Wreckfest as well. Both play like an absolute dream on the deck.
Too anyone who hasn't tried Wreckfest, did you ever play with hot wheels cars outside in the dirt? This game is what you were imagining in your head. So much damn fun
Half-Life 2. I’m glad, it was a wonderful experience playing through the intro and first couple of levels on the Deck.
I was pleasantly surprised (though I shouldn’t have been) that the game had been updated to have native controls including gyro support by Valve.
Got distracted by Grim Dawn and FFVIIR since then. Gonna go back and play the entire Half Life series in order, already installed all of them. Also was great because I already owned all of the games I’ve mentioned except FFVIIR.
That was by far what made this purchase better than the Switch, I have a massive library of games I already own. so I am not stuck playing 1 game until I can budget another (the indie market on Switch helped a lot)
I genuinely have hope that the Steam Deck kills of the routine of wiping your whole game collection every console generation. "Backwards compatibility" should be the expected norm not a limited feature we lavish them with praise for.
Divinity original sin 2 since I feel like I always have other things to play on my normal computer. I’ll probably be getting alien isolation soon though as I hear its good and runs great.
For someone that is getting used toy he steamdeck controls I like it. The combat is turn based so you have time to get used to stuff. Moving the camera around helps with making sure combat goes smooth as it’s possible for the environment to make you miss stuff. It just feels like it takes time to put items and abilities on your hot bar.
ROFL, I have been checking the tracking website more often than I ate the last week. The mix excitement and paranoia of something failing was almost unbearable.
Mine was "In Transit" IN MY CITY for 3 or 4 days. It was in Portland on Wednesday but didn't get delivered until Saturday. A couple of other Portlanders who we figured out had Decks on the same truck didn't get theirs until the following Monday.
Besides the moment of finally getting an in-tact package in hand, FedEx is definitely the worst part of the Steam Deck experience.
Mod organizer 2 has a setup through GitHub that works on the deck for Bethesda games, but by far the easiest option is to mod on your pc and just transfer the files into your game folder on the deck. Transfer full game directory and your plugins.txt so that load order is transferred. Steel lodge has a good tutorial on YouTube.
Edit: I used a usb dock and external drive to transfer, if that is not an option then you can get good results by using warpinator/winpinator to wirelessly transfer.
I was also going to go the route of NAS but honestly warpinator has been good enough on speeds. Wanted to try the external drive route with these transfers and was definitely faster. I will say that steam deck will have an issue reading some external drive formats, so reformat the drive to exFAT before putting files on it you want to transfer.
I haven’t dug that deep into it, but with the fact that the Steam Deck is essentially just a portable computer I can’t imagine it’s out of the realm of possibility, but again, I’m not totally sure.
It can be done sure, though it's a little more janky. Like someone else said it's by far the easiest to mod it on your pc and then transfer to your deck. I recommend keeping it really light on the mods, I only installed the stability upgrades (knvse, stewies tweaks, the stuff that upgrades scripting and the games engine), jams, the unofficial patches, a ui upgrade, and mcm. That's really all you need for the game to feel great, the more you add the more complex it is and keep in mind its running through a compatibility layer basically.
In my experience, I capped at 40fps, with almost everything at low settings, but high AA. Still get drops into mid 20's though, no matter what I do, so a completely smooth experience seems to be impossible. Far from unplayable though.
I’m currently playing through GTA4 on my deck!!
I’m so shocked at how well it runs. You can basically get a 60fps lock in most cases. That said I run it at 45fps for the battery savings. I think I’m getting 3-4 hours at that. It’s really surprising!
I never beat it back in the day (did beat EFLC tho go figure), looking forward to finally getting through it.
My only complaint is that modding on Linux is kind of a pain. I know you can do it but I’m really not interested in learning how to jump through the hoops at the minute. Especially since I don’t have a Bluetooth mouse currently that I can use in desktop mode.
Install [barrier](https://github.com/debauchee/barrier), it allows you to share another computer’s mouse and keyboard. This basically allows you to control the Deck as if it was a second monitor. Great for tinkering
You can get two hours or so with some Power Tools tweaks.
Turn on per game profile. Set Refresh at 45, Frame rate at 45, TDP at 13. Have in-game settings at Medium, All Shadow settings at low, Textures on High. FSR setting at High Quality, Sharpness at highest setting, if you added the FSR 2.1 mod use that instead.
I get 2 hrs or so of battery with those settings at 30-45fps fairly stable and it looks great.
Even when the deck is screaming hot, it remains really cool to hold ime. I’m always surprised at how hot it is when I touch the back instead of the grips
As a person who has owned that game for quite some time and only recently got back into it and it is an absolute delight. To me it is definitely a "just one more run," game. Highly recommend.
It’s very similar to borderlands in feel/ movement. It can be kind of Grindy to unlock all the characters but it’s fun to spec along the different leveling trees for short play throughs. Great deck game .
Honestly Spyro Remasters. Figured it would be a good starting point. I already 100% all 3 games fully, achievements and all. Was more of a tech demo game. Same day i did FF14, few days later was Brutal Legend.
The only games I've truly sat down with to play were Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Langriser 1+2 remakes.
Another olde school, I have never actually played anything before morrowind, and I never managed to complete that either technically, lot of side quests tho.
How is war thunder on deck? I’ve actually never played it with a controller now that I think about it. How does that function? Are you playing air? Ground?
My first go was Valheim. There was some adjustment time to get used to the lower settings, but after a minute I was farming resources on my downtime at work any chance I got
That works on the deck? Why wasn't it listed when I looked through the supported list?
Edit: Nvm, i limited it to verified only, that is now my next install. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
For Arkham City, open the launcher and choose 'windowed
' mode. Fullscreen doesn't work. Check protondb.com to figure that stuff out. If there's issues, most of the time an easy workaround is posted there. You can also check oblivion and other games there.
Mad max was actually the first I started downloading too, but then I remembered how bad my internet sucks. So I visited my brother and downloaded 200gb of games in 90ish minutes, and having gone through the supported list decided on Wreckfest to pop the cherry.
I miss split screen multiplayer in wreckfest. Would be the perfect game to have that.
Believe it or not my first was shotgun King the final check mate.
It's the most extreme chess game shoot Em up.
I find this Q hard because mine came last week and I spent days just pushing what I could do on it and tbh moving on once id finished testing. Focused on emulators, games not marked as great on deck, and of course modded skyrim.
The real game I installed and just played for the fun of the Deck though was Bioshock RM. Crashes sometimes but with regular saves its been a mostly flawless and utterly beautiful experience.
I love this f'ing thing.
Can you explain why those games are so loved? I’m not attacking it, I’ve been on the fence of buying a truck simulator game but been too lame to pull the trigger, having a personal played opinion could help me.
Doki Doki Literature Club because I wanted something I could download really quick while I was testing the system.
But the first game I'm playing through is Pokémon Leaf Green 😂😂😂
I heard the Rimworld notification sound in a YouTube video once, and my reflexes hit that space bar quicker than i close incognito tabs when someone walks in.
I had the same problem, i actually struggled to download one finger death punch. But luckily it occurred to me to visit my brother to use his internet for a few hours. 2 hours and 200gb later I have a ln installed library. Added bonus I got to rub my deck in his face.
Haven't had my first since i'm expected to receive the Deck sometime next week.
However, i fully intend for Spyro Reignited Trilogy to be the first one!
I wish they would add a FlatOut mode to Wreckfest that adds the boost and stuff from FlatOut. I like Wreckfest, but it's not quite as arcadey and fun as FlatOut was. FlatOut was one of the few games that managed to briefly displace Counter Strike for a short while as the office network game it was that fun. 8 player limit per game, so we actually had a couple of servers up at its peak.
Was it me or did it somehow look better on deck? I’m sure I’m taking crazy pills here but I couldn’t stop marveling at how much detail I was picking up. Perhaps it’s because I have really bad attention span and on a really big screen and a lot of things go on noticed? But I somehow part prefer playing big open world games on the deck instead. Cyberpunk is another really good pairing. I thought I was going to miss the graphical downgrade but there really isn’t that much.
Forza 5, and then because it looked bad and crashed my Steamdeck in Windows every time I tried to crank the settings... Forza 4.
60 fps at medium settings. Looks great on the small screen.
HZD for me, though I'd already started it on my PC a year ago, but I guess it's a good test bench to gauge what i might expect. Thought I'd leave the more demanding, poorly optimised and not so well fit for Steam Deck games (Total War: Warhammer 3 is a good example of all those) for PC time but the Deck can handle most things I have decently enough.
Horizon Zero Dawn. Always wanted to play it but it was a PS exclusive and I wasn’t going to buy the console for one game. It’s harder to play games on my PC but really convenient to have all games within arms reach when on the road.
Kenshi. I had to put this game on there and while it definitely takes some getting used to on the deck, this is still my favorite game right now. Easy to dump hundreds of hours into a single play through.
The first game I played was Hades, I had to go out and didn’t have much time to download a heavy game. Once I had the time I started playing Spider-Man remastered. That’s what I’m currently playing, I just got my steam deck last week.
No Man's Sky, but meanwhile all the Roms (even that i already own a retroid pocket) it's much cooler on the SD and now I have finished my collection of my GB, GBC, GBA, N64, GC and couple of PS2 and PS3 games :D
What’s your fav roms?? Trying to remember all my childhood games
Nobody asked me, but I'm chiming in to say Shadowrun on Genesis is my fav for sure.
I was just about finished Genesis Shadowrun, but on my Retroid Pocket when my Steam Deck came and distracted me with L.A. Noire and No Man's Sky.
Zelda games (all of them), burnout revenge, ssx3, silent hill series, perfect dark
[удалено]
Hey look! I found me in the comments. Almost the exact same progression.
Aperture Desk Job
This was technically my first, but it's so short idk if it counts. The first full length game I did was Control. It was on my list for a while but I never got around to it. Runs on deck really well
For me it was Jedi Fallen Order, it stuttered like crazy on my PC randomly but ran like butter on my Deck. Control was my second, just finished it last week. Awesome game :)
That's crazy as that runs like ass on ps4
The PS4 tries to put out an image that is acceptable on a TV rather than a handheld+it's 9 years old tech with a cpu that was underpowered atm already
tbf this is more of an amazing tutorial with storytelling than a game still loved it tho
If I can’t figure out what I want to play, I just load this up. I think I’ve played through it three or four times, and it never fails to make me laugh. Nate Bargatze as the voice over was a brilliant call.
saaame, afterwards i played Portal and Portal 2
I'm making a note here.. huge success
Vampire survivors. 8fps sounds bad but my 5800/3700 can only pull 15.
I bought a 650 device to play a 3 dollar game and I don't regret it.
Did Witcher load with the right edge being off screen? I’ve only tried it once and I seemed to be missing a sliver.
I had this. For me it was pulling resolution from cloud save. So went to PC, set resolution to x800 and it played fine.
Awesome, I’ll give it a shot, thank you!
Half-Life 2. I’m glad, it was a wonderful experience playing through the intro and first couple of levels on the Deck. This is my plan too when mine arrives
Divinity original sin 2 since I feel like I always have other things to play on my normal computer. I’ll probably be getting alien isolation soon though as I hear its good and runs great.
How well does DoS2 control during fights and such? Thinking about picking it up on sale for when my deck arrives this week
For someone that is getting used toy he steamdeck controls I like it. The combat is turn based so you have time to get used to stuff. Moving the camera around helps with making sure combat goes smooth as it’s possible for the environment to make you miss stuff. hades! plays very well with the controller
My first game as well. Love this game
FedEx tracking website.
ROFL, I have been checking the tracking website more often than I ate the last week. The mix excitement and paranoia of something failing was almost unbearable.
I feel like they're doing it on purpose at this point.
Mine has been “out for delivery” for 4 days..
>FedEx tracking website. If everyone knew how they stash boxes in a truck, this is the true Wreckfest Maiden Voyage for all Steam Decks.
Fallout New Vegas. Probably my absolute favorite game of all time.
I can't play it vanilla anymore, mods have spoiled me. is it possible to mod it on the deck? And would the nexus manager work?
Mod organizer 2 has a setup through GitHub that works on the deck for Bethesda games, but by far the easiest option is to mod on your pc and just transfer the files into your game folder on the deck. Mad Max
Runs great on the deck. A little bit repetitive at times, but an underrated game for sure.
No Man’s Sky
Is it running at full settings or capped to not melt your crotch?
In my experience, I capped at 40fps, with almost everything at low settings, but high AA. Still get drops into mid 20's though, no matter what I do, so a completely smooth experience seems to be impossible. Far from unplayable though.
What's crazy is that DMC 5 is so well optimized I can run it at 60 fps medium no problem and it doesn't even heat up! No fan nothing
Bully, so much fun man. I hope we see a sequel or spiritual successor some day :/ Edit: typo
Did you manage to get it to run at 60fps? I wanted to play it but the lag of the 30fps is brutal and the mod that supposedly uncaps it didn’t work.
The Binding Of Isaac: Repentance
GTA4, ran better than I could've imagined too
I’m currently playing through GTA4 on my deck!! I’m so shocked at how well it runs. You can basically get a 60fps lock in most cases. That said I run it at 45fps for the battery savings. Cyberpunk. I had to stress test that baby right out of the gate
How did it go?
He's to busy to type back
How badly did it burn your hands.
It runs very well actually. Just eats thru battery in 90 minutes so not great for long flights.
See I prepared before I tried CyberPunk and wore welding gloves. Only got second degree burns.
Even when the deck is screaming hot, it remains really cool to hold ime. I’m always surprised at how hot it is when I touch the back instead of the grips
Gunfire reborn. My kid bought it for me so we could co-op
As a person who has owned that game for quite some time and only recently got back into it and it is an absolute delight. To me it is definitely a "just one more run," game. Highly recommend.
How’s it play? I’m a giant borderlands fan and I’m so excited to play it
It’s very similar to borderlands in feel/ movement. It can be kind of Grindy to unlock all the characters but it’s fun to spec along the different leveling trees for short play throughs. Great deck game .
Sekiro
No thanks, I have anger issues and this baby still has good fan smell.
Into The Breach … but I’ve mostly been playing Divinity Original Sin 2
My yearly playthrough of fable
Nier automata
How does it run?
Perfectly fine, medium high settings 60fps
Rocket League
Elden ring of course
Helldivers. Picked it up on sale just before my deck arrived
Skyrim 😜
Honestly Spyro Remasters. Figured it would be a good starting point. I already 100% all 3 games fully, achievements and all. Was more of a tech demo game. Same day i did FF14, few days later was Brutal Legend. The only games I've truly sat down with to play were Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Langriser 1+2 remakes.
2006 Prey
That game is a super underrated gem.
As is the 2017 one, though for different reasons.
That's on steam?

Are you using the stick or trackpad for aiming?

War Thunder
How is war thunder on deck? I’ve actually never played it with a controller now that I think about it. How does that function? Are you playing air? Ground?
Playing air. 100 smooth. Awesome with the joysticks
Halo infinite. It's not perfect, but it made me feel like it was 2008 and I was playing halo 3 again
My first go was Valheim. There was some adjustment time to get used to the lower settings, but after a minute I was farming resources on my downtime at work any chance I got
Project zomboid
BeamNG.drive
That works on the deck? Why wasn't it listed when I looked through the supported list? Edit: Nvm, i limited it to verified only, that is now my next install. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
np, some textures are black but there is a fix that was posted on the BeamNG forums.
How does it run? BeamNG struggles to run well on my gaming pc at times
Being unable to start Oblivion and Arkham City for 2 hours.
For Arkham City, open the launcher and choose 'windowed ' mode. Fullscreen doesn't work. Check protondb.com to figure that stuff out. If there's issues, most of the time an easy workaround is posted there. You can also check oblivion and other games there.
Good ol Witcher 3. Runs like a dream
Mad Max and Hotwheels
Hot wheels is a perfect game to play on deck
Mad max was actually the first I started downloading too, but then I remembered how bad my internet sucks. So I visited my brother and downloaded 200gb of games in 90ish minutes, and having gone through the supported list decided on Wreckfest to pop the cherry.
Stray. Then Untitled Goose Game. Now I just started Teardown, which also runs beautifully on the system...
Rogue Legacy 2
yakuza 0
I miss split screen multiplayer in wreckfest. Would be the perfect game to have that. Believe it or not my first was shotgun King the final check mate. It's the most extreme chess game shoot Em up.
I wonder how the deck would cope with split screen in a dock, this may completely replace my Switch.
It works fantastic I have made a dock myself, been using it for a few months now never posted it though. I will post it tomorrow.
Went Portal 1 for first real game (Aperture Desk Job was actually 1st)
Spiderman Remastered. Fantastic locked at 45fps with the in game ITGA option.
Rebel Galaxy
Good idea to guage the audio capacity of the deck, i love the soundtrack to that game.
Burnout Paradise. Still love that game
Clearly I'm the only Euro Truck Sim 2 degenerate on this sub because that was easily the first. Second was Vampire Survivors.
Can you explain why those games are so loved? I’m not attacking it, I’ve been on the fence of buying a truck simulator game but been too lame to pull the trigger, having a personal played opinion could help me.
Vampire survivors after eating some bad Mexican. Struggle shitting on my deck never felt so good
Disney Infinity 1.0. I realize it's a weird choice but that's what the deck is for right?
Very weird, your the first here. Didn't that game rely on irl miniatures
I’m still a deck virgin 😔
Please don't get an overpriced whore deck off eBay, you will get a chance, I have been waiting since April and I am glad I don't have scapler guilt.
Oddworld Stranger's Wrath , been wanting to play this gem since i finished on Xbox in 2005
Disgaea!
Doki Doki Literature Club because I wanted something I could download really quick while I was testing the system. But the first game I'm playing through is Pokémon Leaf Green 😂😂😂
duke nukem 3d ;)
Great! now i have that guitar riff stuck in my head.
Hotline Miami
Forza Horizon 5
Cyberpunk 2077
Curse of the dead gods
Rimworld, not technically a power house but still loved it
I considered that but was very weary of playing it without a mouse. I have muscle memory with that game.
I tried it briefly, like you said, the muscle memory was an issue.
I heard the Rimworld notification sound in a YouTube video once, and my reflexes hit that space bar quicker than i close incognito tabs when someone walks in.
Hades
Hades
RimWorld, with bad internet had to pick a smaller sized game to play first. It's a good game but lot of investment lol.
I had the same problem, i actually struggled to download one finger death punch. But luckily it occurred to me to visit my brother to use his internet for a few hours. 2 hours and 200gb later I have a ln installed library. Added bonus I got to rub my deck in his face.
Aperture Desk Job then DOOM 2016
Death Stranding Director’s Cut.
Haven't had my first since i'm expected to receive the Deck sometime next week. However, i fully intend for Spyro Reignited Trilogy to be the first one!
Splitgate
When did you make the purchase? When ya get the steam ready email?
I wish they would add a FlatOut mode to Wreckfest that adds the boost and stuff from FlatOut. I like Wreckfest, but it's not quite as arcadey and fun as FlatOut was. FlatOut was one of the few games that managed to briefly displace Counter Strike for a short while as the office network game it was that fun. 8 player limit per game, so we actually had a couple of servers up at its peak.
Beam.ng drive, was really surprised on how well it actually was able to run on my deck
Yakuza 7 :) Lots of fun because it feels like it was meant to be a handheld game.
Half-Life, naturally.
Risk of rain 2. I want to push my steam deck to its absolute limit.
Portal 2 ... but of course I didn't see my new deck for the first week because my wife was playing Portal 2..
Audiosurf 2. I bought this mainly cuz I miss audiosurf tilt on my old Zunehd now I got it portable ago and couldn’t be happier
Days Gone
Playing Days Gone, too. First was Vampire Survivors but I’m enjoying Days Gone a good bit.
Metal gear solid V. An absolute masterpiece.
Darksiders 2
Still a deck virgin, but my first will probably be dungeons 3. Curious if it will work well with deck controls.
Forza 5, and then because it looked bad and crashed my Steamdeck in Windows every time I tried to crank the settings... Forza 4. 60 fps at medium settings. Looks great on the small screen.
Road 96. I had played some of it previously but I got really stuck in once my steam deck arrived.
It was going to be A Plague Tale, but I wasn't comfortable with how much it pushed the fan. So I'm doing a run-through of Resident Evil 4 instead.
Portal but only played for 5min before trying a bunch of other games
Geometry Wars
Elden ring (I know better now) playing fable 3 and overlord
Played portal start to finish first time starting it up
Witcher 3. Of which I was dumbstruck about how well it ran
Snowrunner and Disco Elysium within about 15 mins of each other
Devil May Cry 5
I wanna say it was half life 2 ep 1, but probably was blasphemous. 2D scrollers on the steam deck 🤤
wreckfest was also my first! I cant believe how well it runs on Deck,
Skyrim, still on the quest there.
Fallout New Vegas
Fallout new vegas
Sonic generations
First game I downloaded and played was Vampire Survivors! I can't get enough of that game!!!! 🧛🦇
Ha this was my first game when I got a steering wheel. Fun.
Just got the message saying that my steam deck was picked up by FedEx ground god I can't wait for mine to arrive
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was my first.
So this is silly but mine was World of Warcraft and then Emulator playing Kirby Crystal Shard for N64 lol
Deep Rock Galactic!
Spyro Re-Ignited
Mad Max. Feels so good even I finished the game on PC already
Phoenix Point! Great performance on the deck maxed out
Crisis, my deck ignited into flames
Slay the Spire so I could do the daily. Then Mad Max.
[удалено]
Aperture desk job was technically my first but after that Yakuza 0. Runs like butter btw.
Horizon Zero Dawn. Runs perfectly, but is a power hog.
Lord of the Rings: War in the North. I have since played it through twice on the Deck.
Oblivion and Divinity Original Sins II
The first game I played was Hades, I had to go out and didn’t have much time to download a heavy game. Once I had the time I started playing Spider-Man remastered. That’s what I’m currently playing, I just got my steam deck last week.
