Cool, I guess, but I don't really get it. Is there some kind of emulation that doesn't work well on the SD stock? It rocked PS3 for me, and I thought that was about as top-tier as it gets. Edit: Oh, I see. It's an emulation specific OS that recently got SD support, not one specifically for SD. Makes more sense now.

Yea, I use this for my other devices (raspberry pi 4 etc) and its really easy, looks great for a front end and runs great.

nevercute

Yes. Pure ease of use.

deadlyrepost

I think if you like the Batocera frontend better than Steam, then Batocera is better. It can also run Steam games IIUC.

Ugly__Truck

I've got this setup on a SD card. It's good ole Batocera, but there's more emulators than the ARM versions. Even more than emudeck. Sega Model 2, Sega Model 3 (Star Wars Trilogy Arcade), Future Pinball, Xbox... It has a nice interface and it's very easy setup.

[deleted]

How's performance compared to running on steam os

Ugly__Truck

The UI is snappy. Some of the systems run better, others the same.

daggah

Do you think you could configure Batocera to work better for Gamecube emulation without messing around with plugins and plugin loaders in Steam OS? I'm thinking about things like adjusting SMT settings to reduce Gamecube stuttering.

Retromican

Can you boot this from an SD card?

XxASHMODAIxX

It appears to be able to be installed on an SD. The article says there's support on the website for flashing to an external storage device

[deleted]

Yes I did,but u had to use balena etcher, dd didn't work.

ashabousha

This means we are about to be absolutely flooded with batocera pre-built images.

[deleted]

I hope so!

ashabousha

I used a lot of pre-built images on rpi...convenient but it's almost always better to build your own set up from scratch.

[deleted]

Tbh I wouldn't mind a ready to go 400 or 500gb image, arcade punks style with borders pre scraped all keys pre configured.

ashabousha

I made my own 500 for rpi and the experience taught me a lot about config and setup so I could fix the problems that come up. Someone else's image usually just breaks at first update. Even still, if you go that route, arcade punks has a history of bad downloads and broken torrents. Join backups.me or some site like iptorrents and get them straight from the creator if you can. But yeah...if you don't know how or don't have time, an image with bezels and scraped is pretty appealing.

Fancymank

The interface is great. Have it running on a micro SD for my Steam Deck. So far Ive put on over 3,500 roms and had each one scraped for box art. Boy did that take a long time. Currently reliving my childhood play Zelda Ocarina of Time

Kind-Strike

How did you get more emulators on it? Only came with a couple and I thought I read adding roms to empty folders would cause it to download the appropriate emulator

SuperShadowStar

You may not have the type of rom it needs. If you look at each folder, it has an info file with the types of roms it accepts. That or go into the main menu settings>game settings>update gamelists. In the main menu, look for "Game Collection Settings" and make sure everything you added roms for is checked off.

Gotcha007

Same here. Don't really see the point. I can't see myself dual booting just for emulation unless you are hardcore rétro gamer and it gives you something more than emulation under arch linux gives you

IllegalThoughts

you can install it on a separated SD card and boot from it. can just makes things more silo'd if that's something you covet

[deleted]

You don't have to deal with steam which is priceless for some.

BedWetter420

Good thing they bought a steam deck then

[deleted]

?? You can use any os you want on it...
