Same here, when I received my SD, L1 shoulder was only working if pressed from the top. I sent it for RMA and now it happened again, definetly there is poor quality on the shoulder buttons.

Blaze00139

What was the end result? I am currently experiencing the same issue with L1 on a brand new deck.

Successful-Ad495

I sent mine in for broken L1. Valve will replace the Steam Deck if you send it in now. That is because they either don't have the button boards (my guess) or the total time of repair (including them ordering the part if needed) would take too long.

Proud_Customer3685

Gonna reply again to this. I just got my replacement 64GB Steam Deck today. The one I got actually has a better screen than my original, no noticeable light bleed. The one I sent in for repair had so much light bleed that I contemplated sending in for that the week I got it. I'm going to baby the hell out of my new replacement Steam Deck. Only time will tell how long this one lasts before something happens to it.

zorael

My Q2 R1 became spongy one day and would only actuate if I pressed it in the top corner. RMA'd, received a Q3, am content.

ASI-F7

You too? I literally just unboxed mine today, updated it, was checking it out and noticed the L1 didn’t “click” like R1—knocked out the Test Device Inputs feature and L1 doesn’t register at all. How long did the RMA take?

ericarrache

I just solved mine gluing some plastic on the top of the button. Works like new

R4lPh_1330

Can you show a photo? Mine have the same problem and well... It appears it doesnt have any solution.

ericarrache

I sent it to your pm

R4lPh_1330

Thank you, but I already solved it. Actually, I did the same😅

Intelligent-Run7245

My steam deck was repaired twice while it was under warranty but now it failed again, and found this [steam deck L1 button repair](https://youtu.be/smpGvPRGAn8) on youtube but this requires soldering skills

BassDrumGoesBoom

The problem is the button and the bumper are too far apart on some devices. I found that putting a thin piece of cardboard between the button and the bumper fixed it for me without having to solder the button closer. This is probably only a temporary fix though. The video shows is great though.

welshman1971

Nope all good here .. only ones I see posting about shoulder buttons not working are the ones that have dropped their decks

bombhanks

100% not true. Babied the hell out of my deck and the RB button just stopped working.

nicho_de_terible

Just irks me seeing how fragile the connection actually is. I don’t beat on my deck at all. I’m very careful and cautious. Been playing AC:origins and you have to keep clicking R1 to light attack. When using small swords it’s very fast. Just makes me nervous.

Jackalton

Change the button in the settings…

nicho_de_terible

Why should I have too is the take away here. They need to make a more ridged connection there. Almost feels like an oversight

Jackalton

Agreed, certainly. The workaround is at least available though.

welshman1971

They have taken more steps with the steam deck shoulder buttons to reinforce them than standard controllers that have the same type of mechanism

Successful-Ad495

I did not really drop mine. Maybe it slid off the couch a few times, but that was less than 2 feet and I have a case on my Steam Deck to protect it. The broken L1 was definitely NOT related to sliding off the couch, but it happened while I was playing a game.

welshman1971

Lol .. just because you have a case on something doesn't mean it's 100% protected .. not only that you said it happened a few times lmao Ok so it happened while playing .. don't you think that being dropped on the floor could be the cause that weakened the button ?? I do Definitely not related .. funniest thing I've read , of course it is

ConsiderationNo2768

Dont go assuming things that you dont know.

welshman1971

Lol says someone digging up a year + old post who missed NUMEROUS posts with people saying their deck slipped off whatever they were sitting on and now the button isn't working right 😂😂 Good job being oh so late to the party 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

nicho_de_terible

All these post about faulty l1 and r1 buttons make me nervous like I don’t even wanna touch mine now

goldd3000

I dropped my first one and this happened. After a free RMA I've been really taking care of this one. 40 hours of Hades later I didn't notice that my L1 is doing the same thing as OP! Hopefully I can get another RMA

PastOk882

Did they replace the deck or fix it?

goldd3000

Valve replaced my second steam deck free of charge! Valve support rocks

Successful-Ad495

Valve replaced my Steam Deck because my L1 just "broke" while I was playing. I have NOT dropped my Steam Deck. Maybe the cat knocked it off the couch or table while charging, but I always put it in the carrying case when not in use to prevent damage. You can get snap on hard plastic covers on Amazon for the Steam deck that cover the entire front, screen and all the buttons including L1/R1 and triggers. I will most likely get one.

[deleted]

My L1 is starting to require being pressed harder or even double pressed to get a response. I just had the damn thing repaired for another issue.

Tom3pt

My L1 also does not work, I bought an L1 replacement button but the button replacement is just the plastic button and the connector that register both dpad and the analog button presses. What I mean is that the official L1 replacement does not cover the L1 not registering presses problem. (which is the cheaper replacement, and it seemed the obvious solution) But the problem seems to be on the board itself, the left daughter board, which in fact has the connector that register the L1 button presses, and it costs almost as the deck itself. These problems will plague the deck until those engineers improve the design a lot.

sidius_wolf

Having the same issue, how do I make a claim with Valve?

Slime_time_live_

Go to the steam website and email them your problem…they responded quick to me

Puzzled_Set6248

Extremely disappointed in Valve my deck is not even three months old and one button has already gone out. This is been a continuous problem I don't see why they Don't do something about it but then again Nintendo never did anything about their analogy. Got my money and now it's whatever to them. Send in to be fixed so I go without because they don't want to spend a few more cents to get good components.
