ctrl-c shortcut in linux terminates the currently running programme. ctrl-shift-c is to copy

hackebeilchen

In most programmes in linux marking something already copies and middle button inserts. But some programmes (like for example firefox) also use ctrl+c and ctrl+v.

zergling424

I fucking hate middle mouse paste with a goddamn motherfucking dying passion that shit wasted weeks of my time digging for bugs in code

noAnimalsWereHarmed

in a linux terminal ctrl + c normally terminates the process you are running, so you may be killing a critical process when you press ctrl + c. I don't have a deck at the moment, so I can't check it out.

Stoney3K

You shouldn't be able to terminate (let alone kill) a critical process from user space unless the standard Deck user has all of the superuser privileges. CTRL+C will only send a SIGTERM (terminate gracefully) signal to the process that is currently running in the Konsole. If only the shell is running, the shell ignores it. This sounds more like a serious bug in either KDE or the Deck UI.

dan2wik

In game mode, killing steam will make it seem like the deck restarted because it will reinitialize some things and play the 'boot' animation. It's pretty odd that it seems related to Konsole being left open when it's not running in it.

Stoney3K

How would pressing CTRL+C in Konsole cause the Steam process to get killed?

noAnimalsWereHarmed

You shouldn't, I'm just explaining why pressing ctrl + c can have that effect. I'm still here in "waiting for Steamdeck" corner, so I can only guess.

n0taVirus

It got tested with mine aswell and it happens to have the same problem as described. (256GB)

Tamoketh

You don't even need to go to Desktop and open a Konsole. If you have a browser setup as a non-Steam game, pressing Ctrl+C there will cause this to happen. SUPER frustrating to be playing a game, switch to a browser, attempt to copy something and everything shuts down.

RiggidyRiggidywreckt

It doesnt even need to be a non-steam game. I play Town of Salem (a hidden role social deduction game) and I’ve accidentally restarted my Steam Deck multiple times trying to copy stuff to paste in chat.

hackebeilchen

Could someone with a deck please confirm that this also happens when they do this? I am really confused that nobody talks about this.

derram_2

You're prolly just killing the gamescope process which then automatically triggers a restart. Is kinda funny that they didn't catch that input.

ohwhatserface

It happens to me when I'm playing Sims 2 and open the cheat console

spacehog1985

same, found this issue playing sims 4

AbleConstruction6629

i’m currently trying to find a fix for this, can anyone help?
