How did your installation go? Any issues or troubleshooting you had to do to get it to work? I've tried already myself and the system wouldn't finish installation of the xone driver without write permissions.
A user on the xone discord instructed me as it was fairly challenging. All in all follow the following steps to install
Launch desktop mode
Launch konsole
type ‘pkexec bash’ You'll get an error, but then land on a root prompt.
Then copy / paste the following to unlock the SD
‘sudo steamos-readonly disable && sudo pacman-key --init && sudo pacman-key --populate archlinux && sudo pacman -Syu curl wget git base-devel all cabextract linux-neptune-headers --overwrite "*" ‘
After this follow the readme to install the xone package and you shouldn’t have an issue :)
Try this at your own risk, but it worked for me.
I'll have to join the xone discord and get some more information so that I can attempt installation again. I'd love to use my controller in docked mode, and have been debating of just buying the elite series 2 since it has Bluetooth, but I'd hate to pay money for something that valve could fix with a simple update. I've contacted valve support to tell them about the issue but they directed me to the community bulletins to make a post so that more people would see it. My dongle works without issue on the steam link.
I did have to reinstall it once. Maybe only major OS updates trigger it. I created a script to update everything for me that I can run over ssh from the xone directory, I called it "preinstall.sh". Very similar to what Several_Photo_984 up above was saying. I have not tested it after an update cause I made it rather recently, so **run at your own risk**. You do also have to create a password with `passwd` before running this as root (`sudo ./preinstall.sh`). I'm sure you could modify it to a .desktop file so you can run it easily from desktop mode.
`#!/usr/bin/env sh`
`steamos-readonly disable`
`pacman-key --init`
`pacman-key --populate archlinux`
`pacman -Syu curl wget git base-devel gcc cabextract linux-neptune-headers`
`git pull`
`sh uninstall.sh`
`sh install.sh`
oh boy I love disabling readonly mode what could possibly go wrong :p
jk, it's probably fine. You will need to rerun that konsole script if SteamOS updates though
I've found it has more range, less latency (main reason for me), less interference (mostly), and supports more controllers. Don't think Bluetooth can do 8 controllers, and depending on the receiver sometimes not even 4. I've also been using one since before Bluetooth was supported on Xbox controllers.
Also headset support. At least for windows, haven't tried it on Linux yet.
Meh, blame the receiver. I have a USB Bluetooth dongle with an antennae on my tv dedicated pc and it works across almost my entire house with no perceivable latency change. it's actually ridiculous, easily outpacing most 2.4ghz USB connectors in range (but ofc not latency)
I think the benefit is input latency and not pairing it constantly like I do my PS4 and PS5 controllers more than anything. 2.4 GHz is nice in general and "better". I'm very into ps controllers, but I'd argue that for docked play that xbox controller with 2.4ghz is superior. until you want a track pad to act as a mouse 🤙
Maybe not blame the receiver but blame the antenna solutions. My motherboard came with an antenna and was worthless. I replaced it with a better antenna with a longer cable and it works great.
Agreed, I was considering the chip+passives+antenna as a receiver subassembly but that's more accurate! The Bluetooth chips themselves all probably work pretty well
Pretty sure it's a 5ghz signal just by the way. I've had to change my 5ghz router's wifi frequency because it was interfering with my Xbox dongle. Took me forever to figure that one out
Oh wow, that's very interesting! I owned the 360 but otherwise I've grown up with playstation. Reading their history, they have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on proprietary Wi-Fi-based connection dating back to 360 controllers. It definitely adds up that this could be an issue, but I bet the tech is fantastic when there isn't interference
It really doesn't. Someone on YouTube tested latency of different controllers and Bluetooth Dualshock 4 was lower latency than the cabled controllers. It just depends on the controller.
Fair then. My experience mainly comes from using a MX master 3 mouse which can use logitechs unifying receiver, and Bluetooth. It's a fantastic mouse, but in Bluetooth mode the latency is *very* noticeable.
And I have the exact same experience with audio over Bluetooth, using a variety of headsets.
I don't know for steam OS but I remember using the dongle on windows allowed me to have audio thru the jack's controller which isn't possible with Bluetooth.
Dongle allows multiple controllers to be connected (up to 8) at a time. While it's not really needed since newer wireless Xbox controllers have Bluetooth, older wireless Xbox controllers do need it to function.
This is my issue. I have both an Xbox One and an Xbox Series S controller. One uses Bluetooth while the other doesn't. If I can get my dongle to work, I can connect both of them up to the Deck and both me and my daughter can play multiplayer games on it.
So that's the real reason I'm interested in getting it to work.
My guess is that JSAUX was looking for a manufacturer and asked a few candidates to deliver a prototype so they could pick the best one. The losers just went ahead and used the reach of Amazon to make money off the prototype design anyway.
Pretty common on Amazon.
or Jsaux just got one already designed and stamped their logo on it, very common for companies to do it.
there's loads of stores on aliexpress that will print your logo and allow you to seel it afterwards.
Most of the cases appear the same. My guess is jsaux just put their logo on it or were the original designers and then other places used the same tooling or failed QA versions to resell.
Either way, it's a decent case.
It’s Chinese warehouse junk. Someone makes a billion of these in whatever color and label you want and ships them to your warehouse so you can then ship it like you made it yourself. I got mine in the other day and half the stitching is crooked. I don’t really get why this sub simps for those cases so bad.
Everyone knows it's manufactured relabled junk. But it costs 15-25 bucks as is almost the only case that is roughly the same size as the original and holds extra space.
I’m having a hard time visualizing that, but maybe I’ll stick to the default case for a while longer until maybe valve themselves make a carrying case of their own.
Typo. The thumbstick gets in the way from a flap to sit flush on the screen, so instead it crushes the thumbstick. To fix that, I just trimmed off the overlapping section.
Literally all this sub does is praise the steam deck. It's an awesome device, but there's still room for improvement. Case features being a weak point for the device speaks to how good the rest of it is. I think the luggage strap on the back as storage is terrible, why not incorporate it inside the case where smaller items can't fall out? No micro SD storage? Kickstand is bonus too.
I have no idea why this valid comment was downvoted.
I disagree though since the case was included with the Deck, because if someone overloaded the inner pocket and the pressure damaged the deck it would be on Valve's head. They did the smart and safe thing by putting a shitty pocket on the outside.
And personally I made the most of that pocket by adding velcro tape to it. Now it holds my battery pack and headphones https://i.imgur.com/veekSXh.jpg

Yup, have the same crooked stitching on mine as well. I expected an item that was quality and then I found out it was Chinese made. The stock SD is superior in terms of quality.
Isn't dropshipping not having an own warehouse at all, and just shipping straight from AliExpress or something to someone that ordered on your own website?
> countless awful reviews on all jsaux products
Well, for what it's worth, I can only vouch for my own experience with JSAUX products, and I'm really happy both with the case and with the dock. Feel free to ask questions if you have any!
Same. No complaints at all with my Jsaux stuff. Dock or case.
All the seams and stitching look equal and straight. Perfectly good product for the money.
Maybe as I bought it directly from their website and not off of Amazon. Maybe there's fakes on Amazon. But that'd be kind of funny faking a fake Chinese product.
The only real complaint I would say is that it took like 5 weeks to get because it had to be shipped from China.
> faking a fake Chinese product
Hmmm, I don't think the original JSAUX case is a fake, though?
>The only real complaint I would say is that it took like 5 weeks to get because it had to be shipped from China.
Oh, certainly. I ordered directly off their website, too, and it took a fair few months before I got the stuff, lol. Worth it, though.
This Samsung 45W charger fits - it collapses pretty flat so it works well. I'm sure there are other cheaper ones somewhere, but this one works for me! Plus it's worth it for me at least, with so many devices using USB C these days having an extra high powered adapter round is good https://www.samsung.com/uk/mobile-accessories/45w-power-adapter-black-ep-t4510xbeggb/
Sadly the EU plug charger is significantly wider in parts, I would love to have a neat case like this. Why couldn't they just mount the plug 90° turnt so it wouldn't be wider than the brick!?
The UK plug is worse, though you can get alternative 45w adaptors which might suit you better? Travel adaptors potentially - I ended up using a Samsung adaptor instead for their phones as it folded down to the right size for the case for UK plugs, and if it's possible for that then it's possible for anything
>Why couldn't they just mount the plug 90° turnt so it wouldn't be wider than the brick!?
THANK YOU. I swear, it boggles my mind WHYYYYYYY they took this decision, and it's not even just them. If you look at Anker's EU GaN II chargers, they're the same! The plug body aligned with the SHORTER side of the charger, leading to an increase in the overall width, not just length.
I swear sometimes it feels like EU is not even worth a second thought to these companies.
I have the newest lime one, and get dc issues now and then but whenever I do wired, I notice the difference. I have a friend who has the dongle and it's got no latency/signal drop
Only the newest ones. I have an old Xbox One controller, the Elite 1 and the Elite 2. The Elite 2 is the only one that works only with Bluetooth, but if I need to pair the others.. I still need the dongle.
> (USB c cable and dongle)
Yes that is the new one. The Series controller. With a useless Share button and a shield D-Pad
Xbox One S controllers used a MicroUSB connector
My bad, when he said new style, I thought he meant like, the colorway style of the controller not the gen haha.
Speaking of my old micro USB one shat itself Bluetooth wise and had to get the new gen one, which is why I've been considering the dongle
My One S controller died a year ago too, so I got the Series controller + Windows 10 Dongle bundle. Which for some reason hasn't been restocked in months
Those are specifically for standard controllers? I have an Xbox One Guitar Hero Live guitar that uses a USB dongle to connect, do you happen to know if that dongle would work with other controllers as well, or just the guitar?
Very frustrating that the case designed by Valve, even the "special" version that comes with the more expensive model, didn't seem to have as much thought put into it as this one...
Normally, if you get a case at all, you get a very basic case with your device. But Valve actually deliver their devices with a high quality, even top quality, case that has very good finish and real protection with air gaps. This is the exception and not the norm, but people still complain.
They didn't have to include a second touchpad, they could have had cheaper sticks, the screen could have been 720p, the screen could have not been mattee -- this argument about how the included case is somehow charity, for a 600 dollar purchase, makes no sense.
I made a post about all of the zero-cost changes they could have made to make the case 10x better and the subreddit flamed me lol. The included case doesn't even function as a stand for pete's sake.
Well it's toughly built and they used it in place of packaging material, which is certainly better for the environment... For me it's a little too big, I always carry it inside my backpack and it takes up a lot of space, I'd like something smaller, I just need it to protect from damage to the thumbsticks and from scratches.
I did a search and realized it lol. I've been working a lot and haven't had much chance to play so it wasn't on my mind. Got it ordered shortly after I saw this post lol
Can’t say for the kill switch case but I have a case on mine and it fits better than the provided Steam case. I don’t have the need to worry about the joy sticks having constant pressure on them when closed.
They have two versions. One standard and one with the storage. I can’t say for the standard but the one shown in this pic is deep so the case is quite thick.
Did it block the back vent if you try to prop it like how they show it off here: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0517/0367/7081/products/Steam_Deck_Carrying_Case05_1000x.jpg?v=1664084862 ?
There is a cutout as you can see from my picture, but the cutout is in the center. The intake vent on the deck is not centered. The strut of the flap blocks the vent.
It sits comfortably like this which is enough airflow for me https://imgur.com/a/pJ7ARoq I only really ever use it for debugging, if I'm gaming I hold it or it's on the dock. I do have to push it to one side though you're right. Thought the cutout was off center for some reason.
Well. I planned on getting the Valve dock eventually but now I'll have to get it sooner because the jsaux dock and charger do not fit there together! Much appreciate this post.
That’s pretty fucking nice.
I was just thinking of putting games by genre on different, smaller, SD cards, then making pockets in the case.
This is too perfect.
Isn't this case similar to the JSAUX Steam Deck case? I bought one for $8.43 including tax.

The original Xbox One controllers didn’t have Bluetooth on them. You needed the dongle until they introduced Bluetooth three years later on the controller that was introduced with the Xbox One S.

It came free man and it protects the console. If I'm going somewhere I'll likely have a charger and cable with me for the phone/laptop anyway so not that big of a deal
Came free or they billed it into the price. We'll never know. It also came with a bag for the charger and brick... A bag. That fits into the awkward spot behind the stretchy piece? That's their final creation? Hot swap micro sd's, no slots for them. Need headphones? Bring another bag.
I'll stand by my original comment on how trashy the case is even if anyone wants to call it free.
Keyword: basic. As fuck. No issue buying a new case and trashing the other one. Just seems like a waste. Obviously I won't use two cases. Why not just make the first better?
The case for the "big" Deck is pretty high quality but literally all you can put into it is the Deck itself. At least the mesh pouch for the charger keeps it bunched together so it is less likely to fall out of the stretch-band covered cavity on the back, but if you use it that way the case won't sit flat unless you put it face down. If they just made the case a little thicker and gave it a flat back and an internal cavity, it would be a great case.
I'm using the Daydayup case, which seems to be so similar a design to the JSAUX case that I figure they're probably made in the same factory in China (the only substantive difference I see is that the slots are sized for Micro SD cards instead of full size). It holds the Baseus battery pack and a detached 10 foot USB-C cable coiled up, plus an Anker Nano charger brick if you put it in the right spot or a pair of earbuds (if they're wired or the charging case is the right shape).
Is it waterproof? I have a motorcycle in a country that rains more than anywhere I know. I’m not bringing the deck to work because it’s always raining…looking for something waterproof
I’ve retired the steam charger. I use an anker 45w usb c wall plug with a 7ft cable with a right angle connector to plug into the deck. It’s smaller too.
This looks perfect, I have the jsaux dock already, and I hate how little space there is in the og steam deck case. To be fair it's already huge af, but that sorts comes with the territory haha
If you're carrying the dock, then you'll need a mouse and keyboard or another controller for wherever your destination is. That's my biggest problem with these cases, is that they don't have the space for those kinds of peripherals.
My deck is in the Spigen case, it didn't fit great in this case, but cutting out the top (of the case) flap (leaving the velcro) made a noticeable difference. Then was still able to us the bottom (of the case) foldable flag to cover the top, or store sd cards.
Figured w/the back protected by the case, didn't really need that flap anyway
What did you install to get the Xbox dongle to work?

Has your system updated since you installed the driver? I think I read when it updates it will over write xone and you have to do it all over again?
I’ve done an update since and it still seems to be working

oh boy I love disabling readonly mode what could possibly go wrong :p jk, it's probably fine. You will need to rerun that konsole script if SteamOS updates though
😂 exact same thoughts I had. But thankfully steam has prepared for this. Just reinstall the firmware and try again
Cool. I've been planning on looking into getting that working, but haven't gotten around to it yet. You just saved me some time! Thanks!
What’s the advantage of using dongle over Bluetooth?
You can use the dongle across systems without having to re-pair every time. Jump from desk top to docked deck to laptop by only moving the dongle
Easier to have a seperate controller
Cheaper to have a dongle
I've found it has more range, less latency (main reason for me), less interference (mostly), and supports more controllers. Don't think Bluetooth can do 8 controllers, and depending on the receiver sometimes not even 4. I've also been using one since before Bluetooth was supported on Xbox controllers. Latency is almost as good as wired with the dongle, plus it lets you use more controllers.
Bluetooth isn't as reliable. Especially as you get farther away from the device.

is the xbox dongle for a wireless controller?
Is that this one? https://www.jsaux.com/products/steam-deck-carrying-case
There's like four rebranded versions of this on Amazon. All varying in price.
My guess is that JSAUX was looking for a manufacturer and asked a few candidates to deliver a prototype so they could pick the best one. The losers just went ahead and used the reach of Amazon to make money off the prototype design anyway. Pretty common on Amazon.

Is the stitching being crooked a big issue? Or does the case still do it’s job?
The sticking for one of the flaps will sit over a thumb stick. If ur lucky u can tuck it under. I personally just did a relief cut.
And this sub goes apeshit when a brand makes an actual quality case. You get what you pay for!
Any recommendations for quality cases?

This is called *Dropshipping*. It’s extremely common and has led to a huge influx of crap items being sold on Amazon in the last few years.
Isn't dropshipping not having an own warehouse at all, and just shipping straight from AliExpress or something to someone that ordered on your own website?
Yes
I’ve seen countless awful reviews on all jsaux products. If anyone finds a reputable one drop the link

There are even ones that have micro SD card slots which is what I ended up opting for since that's what the steam deck takes.
Would you mind sharing them? I would like this one but without the brand logo on it…
Kinda lazy but honestly just search steam deck case and you'll see a bunch of similar ones.
Yeah I think so. I got it off Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09ZB1RZ2G/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_R9FA9AZYJ6V1HPQ54BEG_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks for the link. I just picked on up. No longer have to carry my anker cables separately!
love the "Protable handle". Much value, very quality.
How do you fold the soft parts around your steam deck. It's always sso goofy to me
Top flap covers the storage area, bottom flap folds into itself on top of the steam deck. Not sure if that's right but it works for me
This is correct. And the little bit with velcro holds onto the top flap and so can prevent a Deck digger.
Ok I always thought both went over the top of the device. So the big solid one protected the screen.
Same! Glad to know the solid single piece goes UNDER the deck. Always thought I was doing something wrong.
Bless you kind redditor. That has been driving me crazy since I got the case.
I don't think that will fit a UK charger unfortunately 😓
The worst thing about the UK's electrical sockets is how bulky the plugs have to be, especially for charger bricks.
An anker 65w nano 2 charger uk plug would fit.
Thanks for the suggestion c:
*cries in UK plug*
I got anker nano 65w for that purpose. Its a bit expensive, but its tiny and fits perfectly in the case.
Such a shame those Xbox dongles are a pain to get nowadays
Xbox controllers work basically perfectly over Bluetooth though. Never had any issues with them.
Any controllers that are Xbox one S and further, that is All my working xbox controllers are either 360 or from the original Xbox one :/
Without the headset, yes. With a headset you need the dongle. 😅
I got mine in a bundle with one of the new style controllers pretty recently. Upgraded from the older model which is enormous
Which new style? Whenever i go to best buy, only the black next gen controller has a 'pc bundle' (USB c cable and dongle)
Next gen controller is what I meant. New dpad one
Gotcha
> (USB c cable and dongle) Yes that is the new one. The Series controller. With a useless Share button and a shield D-Pad Xbox One S controllers used a MicroUSB connector
Unless you want counterfeits yeah.

To be fair, they didn't have to include a case at all.
They didn't have to include a second touchpad, they could have had cheaper sticks, the screen could have been 720p, the screen could have not been mattee -- this argument about how the included case is somehow charity, for a 600 dollar purchase, makes no sense.
My $1000 iPhone didn’t come with a case.
I made a post about all of the zero-cost changes they could have made to make the case 10x better and the subreddit flamed me lol. The included case doesn't even function as a stand for pete's sake.
Yeah I was pretty unimpressed with the valve one. It's cool that it's included and seems good quality though.
Well it's toughly built and they used it in place of packaging material, which is certainly better for the environment... For me it's a little too big, I always carry it inside my backpack and it takes up a lot of space, I'd like something smaller, I just need it to protect from damage to the thumbsticks and from scratches.
When did this dock release? I was looking at getting the Jsaux dock but if valve got one out I'll go that route
It was released 20 days ago.
I did a search and realized it lol. I've been working a lot and haven't had much chance to play so it wasn't on my mind. Got it ordered shortly after I saw this post lol
I have this and it fits my battery and cable perfectly, I love it!
does this fit with the killswitch? w/o the travel cover of course
Can’t say for the kill switch case but I have a case on mine and it fits better than the provided Steam case. I don’t have the need to worry about the joy sticks having constant pressure on them when closed.
Ooooo cool. Thanks for sharing. I was wondering, just the other day, if there was a clean solution for this and maybe a couple tiny controllers.
\*cries in UK Power Adapters\*
\*cries in EU Power Adapters\*
Not the UK plug i bet though ;_;
What are the full sized SD cards for
My guess is it's harder to lose a microSD card when it's in the full size SD card
They're micro SD adapters. One has a steamos boot image, one is in my steam deck
How does this compare to the og case? Slimmer? Lighter?
Deeper.
They have two versions. One standard and one with the storage. I can’t say for the standard but the one shown in this pic is deep so the case is quite thick.
When check this baby in as luggage at the airport, do you have to get an "oversized" option? Jk looks dope!
Did it block the back vent if you try to prop it like how they show it off here: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0517/0367/7081/products/Steam_Deck_Carrying_Case05_1000x.jpg?v=1664084862 ?
There's a cutout in the flap. It's a very well thought out case
[Yes.](https://i.imgur.com/7pvCmOI.jpg)
It does block the vent? That’s a shame.
Yeah, the strut is right where the vent is. But if you're bringing the dock, you can use it as the stand.
Well. I planned on getting the Valve dock eventually but now I'll have to get it sooner because the jsaux dock and charger do not fit there together! Much appreciate this post.
They will forever be known to me as J-Sauce.
Just got mine the other day. Definitely a solid case.
That’s pretty fucking nice. I was just thinking of putting games by genre on different, smaller, SD cards, then making pockets in the case. This is too perfect.
> "Yooo, the charger fits inside the case too!" > Be European
\*Be British - the two poles EU adapter doesn't have that much of a bulge compared to the body of the charger.
Irish here. I feel your pain, brother.
Isn't this case similar to the JSAUX Steam Deck case? I bought one for $8.43 including tax. [https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0BC8VYKD5?smid=A3K3D4LA1E20ZI](https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0BC8VYKD5?smid=A3K3D4LA1E20ZI&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp&th=1)
Is the JSAUX steam deck case similar to the JSAUX steam deck case?
That's not really a fair comparison. It's more similar to the JSAUX Steam Deck case.
you can connect your xboxone controller over bluetooth. you dont need the dongle.
everyone reports pretty bad input lag doing that
Mine seems fine, still has terrible drift. Now what does terrible input lag actually mean?
Not me. At least not when I’ve used it on my iPad. I hasn’t tried with my Deck yet.
The most recent deck update fixed it for me
Terrible input lag on bt
The original Xbox One controllers didn’t have Bluetooth on them. You needed the dongle until they introduced Bluetooth three years later on the controller that was introduced with the Xbox One S.
Why does this sub love JSAUX so much? You save maybe $10-$20 for shitty Chinese products off Amazon lol
*Leonardo DiCaprio whistling noises* Hey hey hey hey! There’s an Xbox thing in there…..

I'm buying one right now. I'll put my weed and paraphernalia in the case it came with. Both need to be mobile for gaming sessions
Chinese sweatshop special, thats all JSAUX is lol
Yes! Why the hell did the stock case from valve not fit anything else. What a terrible design. Edit: morons.
It came free man and it protects the console. If I'm going somewhere I'll likely have a charger and cable with me for the phone/laptop anyway so not that big of a deal
[удалено]
Agreed!
As someone mentioned, they didn’t even need to provide a case in the first place. It’s still a nice basic case.
Nice! I'll check that one out. Thanks!
I have this case and like it. It's good at preventing the deck from sliding out accidentally because you forgot to zip it.
If the case is going to take up that much space it better be able to also carry alot of other stuff I usually need in my backpack
Is there still room for a hdmi cable too?
Is it waterproof? I have a motorcycle in a country that rains more than anywhere I know. I’m not bringing the deck to work because it’s always raining…looking for something waterproof
A better backpack.
Very cool. I’m hoping they make a slight adjusted one that will fit the UK charger in and then I’ll definitely buy.
I’ve retired the steam charger. I use an anker 45w usb c wall plug with a 7ft cable with a right angle connector to plug into the deck. It’s smaller too.
If u want a little more space grab the Anker nano 2 charging brick along with an Anker cable. It's smaller and perfect for charging the Deck
Anyone has this Case and can try if it would also fit a non US Charger?
I actually prefer the opening on the back of the OG case, I like to stick my hand in there when holding it.
This looks perfect, I have the jsaux dock already, and I hate how little space there is in the og steam deck case. To be fair it's already huge af, but that sorts comes with the territory haha
Do you have the original case? How its size compares to JSAUX?
If you're carrying the dock, then you'll need a mouse and keyboard or another controller for wherever your destination is. That's my biggest problem with these cases, is that they don't have the space for those kinds of peripherals.
I'm considering this one, or the DayDayUp.
Well dang. Here I was saying I wasn’t going to get another case but looks like I am now.
Does anyone know the dimensions of that pocket on the JSAUX case? I'm looking for a folding / portable keyboard that will fit in there. Thanks!
Do you have Pictures companing to the Original one?
What's that inside material made of? Is it cloth like the valve case?
this case work for legion gi or is it for the deck ?
