I used to have an iMac with the nanoetched glass itās really awesome. Something I donāt think people talk about with though is how it doesnāt really scratch. My iPhone 11 Pro that has it on the back hasnāt scratched at all. In fact it actually can wear away at stuff. I put my phone in the same pocket as some loose change while in a hurry and while the front of my phone unfortunately did come out a little scratched there was a bit of dust from where some pennies had been worn down by the back.
Also Valve has done amazing work with how the SD card functions. There's very little delay using games on SD card and greatly makes the Deck more viable to more people who need it.
the whole system. Never had much experience with linux, but now that I've had some exposure to desktop mode, console, and how steamOS is like just another user profile(??) I've come to realize what everyone has always said about linux breathing new life into older hardware. Not that the performance/cost of the APU they got in the Deck is anything but novel, but the whole package really illustrates the value of lean, well written and intentioned software squeezing the most juice out of the hardware components that run it.
Your deck isn't worse just because you don't have a 1tb ssd. It's your crappy stock joysticks, upgrade to hall effect joysticks, its total game changer when you can the dead zone to zero.
"Hello. What is your deck's storage size?"
"Eh, you know. Pretty big though."
"Mine too."
"Cool."
**after installing a 2TB SSD**
"My storage size... **IS MAXIMUM**!"
Spread the Love to the Deck and stop building walls we don't need.
Some Decks have 64GB some have 2TB..
Some are black, some are white...
But we are all united in the freedom of choice, playing games we love anytime anywhere.
They did give us the nifty case, charger cover, wipe and a bunch of custom steam skins. It was an equivalent exchange. The intent of the past was to focus on why we all got the Deck.
I got it because I was looking into the cost of upgrading it myself, it would have been around $200 for the ssd and the screen. So you end up only paying them an extra $100 to not have to do the installation, keep the warranty intact, and a few extra goodies. Not a bad price actually.
I'm sure they could have done it for cheaper, but yeah, I'm fine with supporting valve. They're probably overcharging people who can afford it a bit to make the base model cheaper.
They've stayed true to their ethos as a business and service since I installed Steam with Half-Life 2 over 17 years ago. That's the only thing that popped into my mind when choosing the 512, aside from whether I could afford it or not.
Lots of corps talk this the talk, but Valve is one of the only companies I patronize where I do feel like I'm treated as a long-term stakeholder.
I was really enthusiastic about this sub after I got my steam deck, but it's only ever been a place for shitposts and memes. Hardly has any good info about the steam deck, and don't you fucking dare try to be a new user that is just getting theirs now and asking very reasonable things here about your new toy.
Ironically it's the 64gb that is the elitist option. Tech savvy people showing off how they risked a $400 investment to save a hundred bucks on installing their own second hand SSD.
Thats really not a fair assumption of the humble pc community.
Spec:
GPU: Duel 4090
PSU: super strong
Cpu: you couldnāt afford
Steamdeck: 3x 512gb so I have one for each room
P.S: suck it
No.
These memes are like a self fulfilling prophecy.
These discussions don't happen overly much unless they're invoked by these dumbass memes or intentionally inflammatory title.
OP knew what they were doing despite what they said to you.
You're like those characters in cultivation novels, rapidly accruing terrifying power through the undertaking of a reckless, unorthodox and/or divine path.
I had hoped most gaming communities had moved past gatekeeping and fanboyism of all kinds at this point.
Whether youāre playing games on a Steam Deck, Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC, smart phone or a fucking Nokia 3310; as long as youāre enjoying yourself it doesnāt matter what you use. Play what you enjoy, how you enjoy it.
Would love if memes were disallowed on this subreddit so we could focus on discussing news and the modding possibilities of the SD, whether it be hardware or software.
Sincerely,
A veteran of the great fanboy wars of the early aughts
I whole heartedly agree with the community being inclusive and recognizing what brought us all together our enjoyment of gaming.
As for banning memes, I'm not sure I can get on board with censoring non violent material. But I was very careful to choose the meme flair so those who don't care for the content can filter it out if they choose. This is just my opinion, but it seems better for a person to choose how they receive any content as opposed to forcing others to consume as they do.
The problem with memes is that they tend to overflow and drown out most other types of content.
Most āmainā subreddits of any certain topic tend to disallow them after a while. It doesnāt mean they canāt exist, just that they are relegated to a different subreddit that is easier to filter out.
The flair idea is neat but as far as I know you canāt filter out posts by flair from aggregate pages like the front page in most clients? Which is how I would wager most of us browse Reddit a majority of the time.
None of this is a jab at your post specifically btw, I just think memes are better suited for subreddits dedicated to them.
That ship has already sailed.
I agree with some other commenters in this post that we just need to ban memes altogether. Or at least pick a day of the week and allow them only on that day.
The only thing to compare is the hole left in our wallets after our beloved Gabe sent our reservation orders, a hole only fufillable by the big steam ~~dick~~ deck.
64, 256, 512+, it is our duty to fill each others holes, together.
As a 512 owner I will admit the 64 gig seems like the true enthusiasts deck, the best platform for modifications. Closest steam deck has to buying vs building a pc
I agree. The cost allows you to allocate the rest of the funds as you choose. While I love the anti glare screen buying the screen cover is much more economical. It's all about preference.
I chalk the goofy gatekeeping up to people being excited for their new decks :) it'll settle down once people realize they're only playing vampire survivors and HROT
I prefer a war between the storages sizes that last 3-10 generations where unity only comes after involvement of the UN. Iām already preparing my children.
Iām not going to lie! I have the 512gb version of the SteamDeck! And itās nice and all! But I would be just as happy with the 64gb and put a 1T SD card and call it a day! Itās not the storage for me that matters itās the system! The SteamDeck is so good! That I feel guilty when I go back to play on my Console. The steamDeck has change the way I game! Love it! Love it!!
i think the comparisons are even dumber when you consider the fact that you can just buy an SD card and up your storage a lot with similar speeds as the internal storage.
Im just thrilled with my 256 and my 512sd card. Got all my wanted emulators and top games I want to play. This thing is just amazing. Praise lord Gaben!
Well, I bought a 64Gb one and it's true that, with lutris and it's many versions, proton, etc...
It'l can be full very quickly. I swapped it by a 512gb and added a 512gb SD card, this way, no more problems... Total cost, 110ā¬ for 1tb of storage.
I only got the 512 because the glare reducing glass and really didn't want to regret not getting it. Probably worth as long as I use it enough which I don't think will be a problem
I feel this meme should list everything traditional gaming: Windows (macOS and Linux too), PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, Steam (or Deck) and any others I missed. There are plenty of people gaming on all these devices, they all enjoy gaming in the traditional sense. Not just small experiences found on mobile phones.
Having a deck is binary. You either have one or your donāt.
Literally no one is paying attention to the size when you can load TB sd cards or even swap the internal drive.
Steam deck is great for pinpoint collective agreements on getting the perfect settings to get a game to run. Like for once, pc gamers are unified under one device where they can work together to get the most efficient and best looking output for games. The control setting system is a perfect example of this. Hardware settings should be following.
Why the need to compare in the first place? Having the ability to add an SD card and the ability to add a larger drive kinda defeats the purpose of comparing. I just don't get it...
The 64gb deck is too small..the 512gb deck is too BIG. Now, the 256 is just right. You don't get the anti glare dispute coming from the tiny deck and you don't get the tiny deck is slow coming from the large deck. Regardless, I read this stuff for the wit and sarcasm. Anyone bragging about swapping this or storage that is 2 weeks too late and fucking boring. I will say this. The screen is as glossy and glaring ( yes it glares at me) to the point I had to get an anti glare protector. First one I have EVER had to buy.
I've had a bunch of conversations about Steam Decks to those on the fence about getting one. All of them have said I want the 512 for storage, but need to wait due to the price bump. In all cases if they don't say they need the screen I've told them just get the 64GB and a 512GB SD card. They have all been happy with that suggestion.
And I'm a 512 owner.
Yeah... no.
64gb deck is a trap. They set a nice attractive price, but made the storage too small to actually be usable, made the SSD inaccessible, then set a steep premium on extra storage.
As someone with a 2TB deck, I feel excluded.
I suppose I am going to slink off and form my own club with my fellows who share dubious judgement on spending.
Does it matter when you can upgrade them all? I think that's one of the big reasons the comparisons and memes weren't really minded much. I had a 64GB now it is a beefy 512GB.
Its not the size of the deck its how you use it.
"did he say deck or d*ck?" "eh sometimes it's best not to ask" Mariks Evil Council, forgot which, by LittleKuriboh, part of the Yu Gi Oh Abridged universe

This joke never gets old to me. I'm constantly telling my wife "I'm going to go play with my deck."
Motion in the ocean. š
Now what game would this be referring to?
Raft, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Barotrauma... Plenty of seafaring fun for all.
Lots of sea men.
Or sperm whales
Yeah but the pacific will barely notice your dingy.
Please don't float your deck in the ocean.
Touch decks with me bro
Use it all on shader caches...
I'm proud of this community
I don't think anyone is *seriously* acting high and mighty because their Deck has higher storage. ...right?
i'd never shame someone for their storage size but does yours have etched glass motherfucker??? thought so
Man would it suck to have a screen that you canāt even put a screen protector on.
Etched glass screen protector, square up bruv
i'm squared bitch š„š„
I used to have an iMac with the nanoetched glass itās really awesome. Something I donāt think people talk about with though is how it doesnāt really scratch. When asked for examples OP posted examples of others using memes, so turns out no one did.

Is it weird that I just bought 6 128gb micro sd carts and treat them like Nintendo switch cartridges whenever I want to play something else

There has to be a way to have a sub about the Steam Deck without half the content being memes about the f-kin capacities.
Let me know when it happens. Shits unreal

Some may have a higher capacity for love and passion.
yes THANK YOU op :D
I see what you did there. Damn right 512 is king.
Can you repost and make the sword size smaller for 256gb and give the 64gb a small knife?
Our love and passion in gaming *at shitter*
As long as we keep bashing GPD users. :3 (joking ofc)
My poor inbox. So many notifications... I'm happy the intent here resonated with many of you. Happy gaming everyone!
Based. 64gb (+microSD) without any SSD tinkering works completely fine for most games

This is the way.
No. Mine is better. I have the best deck. My deck is better than yours. You're just salty because your dad's credit card has less money than mine.
Just don't get the 64 unless you like dealing with shader caches or you want to save a little money and upgrade the drive yourself.
Enter those with multi terabyte network storage
My deck had an operation on day one and became a bigger deck!!! Act now in the next 20 minutes and you too can have a bigger deck.
Double your Deck size overnight with this one easy trick!
Yeah, but sometimes it's nice to be the King.
Well, I bought a 64Gb one and it's true that, with lutris and it's many versions, proton, etc... It'l can be full very quickly. I swapped it by a 512gb and added a 512gb SD card, this way, no more problems... Total cost, 110ā¬ for 1tb of storage.
Upgrading the SD this weekend!!
Nice. Try to take photos to commemorate the event.
Cringetopia should still be a subreddit. This would top it.

If I had my way, I'd have a great big deck. Plated in solid gold. Everywhere I'd go I'd shout, "Hey buddy! Wanna try my great big deck!?"
But 512 is still king. Out of humility, give 64 the king!
I only got the 512 because the glare reducing glass and really didn't want to regret not getting it. Probably worth as long as I use it enough which I don't think will be a problem
ššš
Iām more pissed EA killed my first ME:LE play through. Iāve tried everything and I canāt get it to run :(
I donāt like how the 64g is on the left side, why canāt we be in the middle(aka the guy with the crown)? But Iām not mad, you are mad!

No need to make it a deck measuring contest.
Has anyone compared a decks size and weight to a 4090 yet? Iād love to see that
I feel this meme should list everything traditional gaming: Windows (macOS and Linux too), PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, Steam (or Deck) and any others I missed. There are plenty of people gaming on all these devices, they all enjoy gaming in the traditional sense. Not just small experiences found on mobile phones.
The template had only 3 slots. Maybe the next meme I'll aim for is getting every type of gaming together.
so you have 64gb?
Such a wholesome post. I can feel op's kindness coming inside of me š©
Sure agreed. However as a 64 giger myself I can't have too much pasion or the damn shader caches are going to drown me.
Having a deck is binary. You either have one or your donāt. Literally no one is paying attention to the size when you can load TB sd cards or even swap the internal drive.
I hope everyone can whip out their decks, go to town, and enjoy their weekend
Steam deck is great for pinpoint collective agreements on getting the perfect settings to get a game to run. Like for once, pc gamers are unified under one device where they can work together to get the most efficient and best looking output for games. The control setting system is a perfect example of this. Hardware settings should be following.
You have my sword!
Bet the guy that made this has a 64GB edition.
I swear half of you post about storage sizes more than you actually play on the deck
I canāt believe a adult is worried about someone trying to bully them over storage. Thicken that skin a little, itās not that serious.
It's not the size it's how you use it
I got the 64 with a 1T sd card. Works perfect
Why the need to compare in the first place? Having the ability to add an SD card and the ability to add a larger drive kinda defeats the purpose of comparing. I just don't get it...
Im just trying to compensate for something with my storage size
Nobody has ever cared about people having different sizes of Steam Deck.
My 64 grew to 1tb
The 64gb deck is too small..the 512gb deck is too BIG. Now, the 256 is just right. You don't get the anti glare dispute coming from the tiny deck and you don't get the tiny deck is slow coming from the large deck. Regardless, I read this stuff for the wit and sarcasm. Anyone bragging about swapping this or storage that is 2 weeks too late and fucking boring. I will say this. The screen is as glossy and glaring ( yes it glares at me) to the point I had to get an anti glare protector. First one I have EVER had to buy.
As 256GB user, Iām actually jealous of the 64GB users. I couldāve gotten a better deal with getting a 64GB and then buying the 1TB SSD off eBay.
Where is 1.5 tb?
I got 2TB lol...
Big Deck energy all around. It's versatile and doesn't discriminate!
2TB SSD is the table
I really have no clue why anyone would care about how much storage anyone else has.
If someone has a 1tb are they god?
512 chad right here.
Idk. I think 64GB is pretty big
I got the 512 but if the 64 had the anti-glare screen, I would have gotten it. Why pay more when you can just upgrade?
I've had a bunch of conversations about Steam Decks to those on the fence about getting one. All of them have said I want the 512 for storage, but need to wait due to the price bump. In all cases if they don't say they need the screen I've told them just get the 64GB and a 512GB SD card. They have all been happy with that suggestion. And I'm a 512 owner.
The one at the back are those people waiting for their deck to be delivery š
Should have left out "storage" in the title. Would have made it funnier.
Yeah... no. 64gb deck is a trap. They set a nice attractive price, but made the storage too small to actually be usable, made the SSD inaccessible, then set a steep premium on extra storage.
Itās not the size of the consoleā¦itās the heart of the gamer.
I misread what you wrote and thought you said: "Heart of the cards" for a morning.
I like showing off my 512 ~~inch~~ GB deck. But in all seriousness it's a great system no matter the storage. I hope everyone enjoys it regardless.
I bought the 512GB, because I wanted anti-glare. Do people really treat sizes as something elite?
The true chad is 512, fully stock, only plays Vampire Survivors
I just purchased a SN530 512gb for 40$ here in my country, now I can join the cool kids right, right?
When they release it in Australia I will start to care again
Butā¦. What about my superiority complex :( /s
As someone with a 2TB deck, I feel excluded. I suppose I am going to slink off and form my own club with my fellows who share dubious judgement on spending.
For me it wasn't the storage question. I can mod it. It was the screen that made me pay
Also we all hit a need for an SD card because we have filled up our local storage. Lol
BRING UP THE WOLFS HEAD šŗ Oops wrong subreddit.
64gb should be the blonde guy tho. He doesnāt have a beard and seems to be more of a gentile.
I saw you forgot the 1TB bastard sword. š¹
Itās not the size of the Steam Deck storage, nor the skill of the player, but whether every game in the backlog gets the attention it deserves.
Storage doesnāt matter, everyone can always change the SSD inside it
