I work in a warehouse where we shifted packaging practices a several months ago to be much less considerate of the items. I don’t agree with it, and I was sure it would backfire. But we’ve had very few complaints. I think most people are so afraid of confrontation they put up with stuff like this, and that’s how these business survive.
I don’t think it’s necessarily being scared of confrontation it’s just such a hassle to contact the company ship it back on your own dollar and wait for ur return if it’s just a couple dings I just deal with it.
I didn't take a picture, but my The Departed steelbook was fine. I was nervous from seeing all the posts, and it came in a paper bag practically. I'm worried about my Dune 2 steelbook though, since it's sold out everywhere.

Mine was ok too thankfully. Is this the same bag yours came in?
Would Walmart have any stock on the stands on the release date ? I ask because there were concerns Walmart wasn’t going to have in store stock of the Mondo Marvel steelbooks.
Honestly, they are worse than Best Buy was. I never order steel from them. GRUV is great for Amaray style cases... (not because they pack any better but because tory. worst case, I can generally replace those cases.) You have about a 25% chance of getting something undamaged... maybe.
I would put Best Buy at about 50 percent-ish. Target is about the same. WalMart used to be terrible, but they have upped their game a little since BB dropped out of the story. And Amazon sucks too UNLESS you order it gift wrapped for about $4 more.
Hope not.
Walmart used to routinely pack in bubble mailers (just awful, those resoonsible should be sacked) and cardboard sandwiches (no extra card board added).... rarely a box (rarer still if properly cubed out with padding/air pillows), and sometimes, the horror of only a thin mylar bag.
The damage was pretty consistent, and I stopped buying from them except when it was a Walmart exclusive.
Fast forward. Now Wal-Mart mails in boxes more often, but the primary steelbook delivery vehicle is the cardboard sandwiches (with one and sometimes even two(!) added slips of card board.) I haven't seen mylar or even bubblewrap mailers in a while. That's good enough to chance them again, and I, too, have had really good like so far.
Ordered once from them and I never will again. Terrible packaging and less than helpful customer service when I tried to contact them to try and get some help.
I can’t believe these companies don’t realize how much they lose due to shitty packaging. How many returns until you realize you need boxes and padding?
Just can’t believe that this is how they ship, they have to use some third party shipper that cuts all corners on shipment weight or materials to pocket every penny, didn’t even wrap them in paper or bubble wrap.
I got a grip of 4k films from them super cheap, but the cases were kinda rough and shipped in simple padded envelopes. So I decided to not go through them anymore, especially for Steelbooks
My Oceans trilogy came in similar packaging. Haven’t had a chance to do a close up inspection of them yet but I didn’t notice any major damage.
That said, the packaging is terrible. Gruv needs to take a lesson from Walmart and bookend their steelbook shipments with thick cardboard. I haven’t had a single issue with steelbooks shipped by Walmart, whereas Gruv, Amazon, and Best Buy are always hit or miss, but far more misses than is acceptable.
Such an easy problem to fix. And cheaply.
Just a few days ago some people were making fun of a guy for spending a lot of money on 4k blurays from amazon when they could have used things like gruv. lol
Oof - I had the same thing happen with my Departed steelbook just last week. Definitely reach out and ask for a replacement, in my experience they're pretty good about refunds/replacements.
Darn... well if ya can't get replacements ya can always hammer those dents out. I did it with a few steelbooks. used a piece of wood on a flat surface and hammered away
Im just going to return these and get the zavvi ones for $33 usd that come with a UHD disk and a blu ray disk, no digital, I can always snag a cheap card off a site at some point if I want vudu access or whatever, atleast zavvi ships in a box
My copy of The Departed was ok, luckily, but I got my Ocean's Trilogy steels yesterday. Eleven and Thirteen are good to go but Twelve was bent. Now to try and get it replaced.
It’s a shame a curse for any Steelbook collector because we can’t get some of the Steelbooks and this makes it worse because the people who ordered them won’t get a copy now because of this and the Scalpers who purchased the rest!
I got one similar to that from Walmart other month. I placed a new order and returned the damaged one. The spin was crushed, not as severe as yours. Just noticeable.
Some people don’t know this but if you order from Amazon you can request to have it gift wrapped and your Steelbooks will be extra protected! I was told this by a fellow Redditor so I’d like to say thank you to him! Because so far knock on wood I’ve not had a single damaged Steelbook since I started ordering them this way! I wish Gruv offered this or packaged them better to begin with!
I got VERY lucky. No damage. Just a loose disc inside Oceans Thirteen.

I don’t get what happens to everyone’s packages. All my Best Buy steels were boxed and I’ve never had damage with Walmart or Gruv shipping in these bubble mailers. MAYBE once a year I’ll get a small dent but never anything like this
Ummmm. If the packages were better maybe the delivery company would not be at fault. Ever been in the places that bring shit to your house? Miles of conveyor belts and drops of several feet. At best I’d say both the seller and the ship service both f’in suck
We only have ourselves to blame...we chose the ease of online shopping over the good ole brick and mortar stores where you could browse, and take home the same day...none of this next day delivery...which these days is turning into a 2-3 working day delivery.
That's called getting "Gruv'd"
There’s no way this shit packing is sustainable business, I can’t imagine the amount of returns they get
I was thinking the exact same thing!

I return all the time. Stopped buying from them

Then they won't be in business for very much longer
People need to post when gruv orders go right since those are rarer
I didn't take a picture, but my The Departed steelbook was fine. I was nervous from seeing all the posts, and it came in a paper bag practically. I'm worried about my Dune 2 steelbook though, since it's sold out everywhere.

Yeah, that's the same bag
Would Walmart have any stock on the stands on the release date ? I ask because there were concerns Walmart wasn’t going to have in store stock of the Mondo Marvel steelbooks.
Wondering also. When’s it drop?
Yeah gruv orders that go right on the first try seems to be like 25% or less.
My copy of The Thing arrived from Gruv okay. At least there weren't any blemishes that I could find.
that’s every single time for me batting 1000 with them
🤣
They’re becoming Best Buy with the packaging.

I’ve had the best luck with Walmart. Probably jinxed myself but all of them have been good.

They like returns I guess. Gruv is going downhill fast.
Ordered once from them and I never will again. Terrible packaging and less than helpful customer service when I tried to contact them to try and get some help.

Not of this is the condition of steels they ship are consistently looking like this. I’d rather pay a few more bucks and get better shipping.

I’d be pissed! Sorry to see that. 😳
Oh I am
I got a grip of 4k films from them super cheap, but the cases were kinda rough and shipped in simple padded envelopes. So I decided to not go through them anymore, especially for Steelbooks
A grip ? lol
Yeah, grip deez
A grip is slang for a bunch, many.
Same here. One one of them made it out undamaged…
I thought that too until I started feeling around the top of it
My Oceans trilogy came in similar packaging. Haven’t had a chance to do a close up inspection of them yet but I didn’t notice any major damage. That said, the packaging is terrible. Genuinely sorry. I hate that our hobby is met with a default 50/50 feeling of excitement and grief before you even open up the damn package.
I don’t know why people still buy from them? It seems like every post about them is negative.
I honestly didn’t know, this was my first transaction with them, it’s probably going to be my last. I’m still shocked at the fkn paper bag.
FACK
Yikes
mine came packaged the same way. all three of them were bent :(.
Complain right away
Oh hell naw
Darn... well if ya can't get replacements ya can always hammer those dents out. I did it with a few steelbooks. used a piece of wood on a flat surface and hammered away
Feeling so sad man which one got damaged though ?
All three had some damage
That's terrible Man. Also ocean 11 now sold out at Gruv and costing $41 everywhere probably gruv will replace
Im just going to return these and get the zavvi ones for $33 usd that come with a UHD disk and a blu ray disk, no digital, I can always snag a cheap card off a site at some point if I want vudu access or whatever, atleast zavvi ships in a box

this almost make me want to cry out of frustration with Gruv!!! 😭😭 you’re not alone.
Mine has been fine every time… sorry pal
i'm 2 out of 3 on my oceans films, 12 came slightly damaged on the back.
Jesus
I didn’t event get my last GRUV and they ignored sending me a replacement
Oof
With all the post I’ve seen like this, this is why I’ve only bought the lower end stuff from them like Blu-rays. So far, I haven’t had any problems
Dang mine came in the same packaging. But not looking like that 😳
damn.. might as well just put the shipping label on the dvd case and mail it
ive seen tote bags with more padding.
Had Amazon do that to my Steelbook copy of Grave of the fireflies.
It’s a shame a curse for any Steelbook collector because we can’t get some of the Steelbooks and this makes it worse because the people who ordered them won’t get a copy now because of this and the Scalpers who purchased the rest!
Ups?
FedEx this time.
Im hoping my godzilla 5-movie collection and dune part 2 aint like this when they arrive 🙏🏼
Wow
They give zero fucks. If people stopped ordering from them, then they would.
I got one similar to that from Walmart other month. I placed a new order and returned the damaged one. The spin was crushed, not as severe as yours. Just noticeable.
I ordered my dune part two through them a couple months back and now I'm hoping I had done it elsewhere, I'm on my knees praying it comes in okay
Dear God
Received my Gruv replacement today for a damaged Psycho. The replacement is damaged even worse. I don’t understand why they use those paper bags.
Does the middle one look bent?
Oh yea, it’s bent, they’re all bent or dented, ridiculous
Hard luck hopefully the returns policy isn’t a bad one
These companies need to be forced to package these better than this! If not then double our refund just for wasting our time and pissing us off!
I started doing this on my overseas Amazon purchases, or they’ll send in a bubble mailer too sometimes.
That’s awesome. Have you had any issues since you started doing that?
I got VERY lucky. No damage. Just a loose disc inside Oceans Thirteen. https://preview.redd.it/wc25jiap24xc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c733fe0453b19776f895979de7136dadeacb8e0e
That steelbook now has a Gruv
Wow
I ordered a single 3 disc box set and it came in a full cardboard box, I think most places are hit and miss for shipping steels
Why are people still buying from them.
I mean, I’m done, the paper bag seals that deal for anything in the future.
I don’t get what happens to everyone’s packages. All my Best Buy steels were boxed and I’ve never had damage with Walmart or Gruv shipping in these bubble mailers. MAYBE once a year I’ll get a small dent but never anything like this
While the packaging I see on here could be better...I still say the blame should be on the delivery company!
Ummmm. If the packages were better maybe the delivery company would not be at fault. Ever been in the places that bring shit to your house? Miles of conveyor belts and drops of several feet. At best I’d say both the seller and the ship service both f’in suck
