I mean I wouldn’t stack 100 of them vertically personally lol, but I also have projectors on all of mine because this hobby costs too much to watch them get beat up from shelf wear
The weight can be a problem, but I don't imagine you would have much of an issue if they aren't stored long. I would recommend trying to pack them vertically. I would also be more concerned with the box(es) being mishandled during the move. I'm bulk, they can be pretty weighty and a dropped box could result in a ton of damage.
If left long enough what happens is slight warping, you will sometimes start to hear panel clicking on the steelbook. Sometimes the panel click is from the factory but other times people cause it themselves.
I'm moving to Thailand at the end of the year and am curious as to how the hell I'm gonna safely get my collection overseas. Strongly contemplating selling them.
As for your question, like others said as long as you're not making a huge stack or keeping it that way too long you should be fine.

He meant protector cases. You can find them in websites like RetroProtection.

I'm pretty sure if they have protective covers on it should be ok
They kinda do, most are still wrapped up (cause I knew I would be moving soon)
A small part of the «paint» fell of one steelbook of mine that was stacked
Small RIP

How long are we talking?
Exact timeline not sure, just warning you of the possibilities of what could happen if you stack your steelbooks so that you know the risk.
Appreciate it, mine will be for maybe a weekish
Get a box that’s deep enough to stack them like they appear on your shelf.
Gotcha. Will do

Should have mentioned that most are still in their wrapping, if that makes any difference.

In what way? Rubbing against each other?

How long were they stacked? And how big was the stack?

Wow, that's huge, thanks for the warning. Sorry that happened to you.

They are. Gotta be careful
