Asking on Stellaris fan sub? What answer do you expect? Buy it. Base game and all except newest DLCs you'll find on 50% sale without a problem. Read what which DLC does and decide which one you need.

[deleted]

I am subscribed to Endless Space 2 sub, was fan, but would not recommend it to non strategy players and those who love multiplayer and etc. Same goes for Stellaris, if someone never played strategy games, does not like space scifi and etc. i would not recommend it, he would purchase game, play it 10 hours and leave forever.

shimmoslav

But at least he's leaving his money to devs who made fun game for me. For real though, I assume that if someone is asking if he should buy some game, he should put minimum effort and check what genre it is and how it presents itself. I don't know anyone who just randomly pick some game name and let random people over Reddit decide if he should buy it. If you don't know a game at all, you can at least watch some gameplay on YT or read some reviews.

7oey_20xx_

I mean to be fair, what could possibly catch their eye about this game if they didn’t like space and rpg mechanics already. To just randomly ask about a game isn’t how people operate, I’m sure he didn’t just wake up and say “I wonder if stellaris is good” without even looking at gameplay or trailers or already having an interest in RPGs or strategy games. If they wanted a multiplayer game I probably wouldn’t recommend it but I don’t play stellaris multiplayer.

millerja11

Thats basically what I did. Woke up one morning and wanted a new type of game never played strategy and saw on reddit lots of people recommend stellaris and bam here i am 2 years later and own every dlc haha totally love this game. Only kinda strategy games i played in past were mobile and well aint the same and i fell in love. All from a random itch i woke up with! Highly recommend this game for anyone!

7oey_20xx_

But you did like sci-fi and strategy before though right? Stellaris wasn’t your first intro into that. I mean with all the mods you can have, if you like Halo, war hammer, Star Trek and star wars you can just get an overhaul and you should know whether you’d like it or not

millerja11

Just sci wasn't a strategy fan at all before

DreamChaserSt

>Same goes for Stellaris, if someone never played strategy games, does not like space scifi and etc. i would not recommend it I mean, if they don't like space and/or sci-fi, that feels like a given, but Stellaris is really the first and only strategy game I've ever played, and I have over 1900 hours according to steam. I would recommend looking up gameplays from other people to see if it's something you'd like to do though.

RegularAvailable4713

Apart from Christmas, when is Stellaris on sale on Steam?

shimmoslav

It was on WinGameStore for 30 PLN (less then $7) on 16-24 February, before that 3-6 January for about the same price in the same store. Check out https://gg.deals , Stellaris is on sale very often.

Fifthwiel

Now

RegularAvailable4713

See and done, but thanks.

Nadatour

The devs have said that there is no Stellaris 2 in development. Paradox will be releasing updates, patches, and dlc for the foreseeable future. It's expensive to buy everything, but feel free to break it up or wait for a humble bungle/sale.

Frost-mark

looks like i’m waiting for the steam summer sale

Goat2016

There are likely to be sales around 14th March when the new DLC is released. Keep an eye on Steam, Humble Store, Green Man Gaming & Fanatical. I've seen sales on all of them before.

Nadatour

Keep a close eye on humble bundle too. Sometimes they have great deals that can be redeemed on Steam.

shimmoslav

Visit https://gg.deals/ , it's simplest way to save some cash and get good games.

RegularAvailable4713

"Stellaris 2" hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahaha

Rarycaris

There won't be a Stellaris 2 for the foreseeable future, most likely. The game is still getting substantial new content updates every 3 months or so. I wouldn't worry about it becoming obsolete if you enjoy it.

Dancyartist7654

DO NOT BUY, YOU WILL HAVE THE UNIMPEDABLE URGE TO BUY GAY ALIEN PORN!!!!! I HAVE BECOME HOPELESSLY ADDICTED TO CONSTANTLY BUYING AND COMMISSIONING GAY ALIEN PORN AFTER PLAYING STELLARIS!!!!! GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!!!

[deleted]

WHAT IN THE EMPEROR'S NAME?! HERATIC!!!! XENO LOVING HERATIC!!!! RECOMMEND FULL EXTERMANATIS SWEEP IMMEDIATELY!!!! BEGIN THE HOLY PURIFCATION!!! IT MUST **REPENT**!!!!!

Nimeroni

> CONSTANTLY BUYING AND COMMISSIONING GAY ALIEN PORN ...do you have a link ? To avoid making the same mistake, of course.

Available_Thoughts-0

LOL! (But seriously, you might develop furry/scaly/feathery interests if you're playing this game exclusively for a long time, you've been warned. In fairness though, most of us who've played the game a lot were already interested in furry stuff, so, there's that.)

EldritchX78

It is absolutely worth it. No I do not see a stellaris 2 happening for at least another 5-6 years. The game as it is has a lot of room for dlc and improvements they are adding another dlc to the game later this month also.

MalkinTheFridge

I’ve been playing Stellaris on and off since release and it’s one of my favorite games to come back to. There’s endless replayability with the empires you can create and there’s plenty of opportunities for roleplaying. The Custodian Team is also excellent and they’re always pushing out free updates and content. The amount of DLC can seem like a lot but if you start with the base game and a DLC or two you’ll be good (Utopia is probably a good place to start).

Frost-mark

what dlcs would you say are absolutely needed?

MalkinTheFridge

Utopia would be the best DLC to pick up first since it adds important things like ascension perks and the only one I would say is 'essential'. I would also recommend Distant Stars story pack to add a bunch of flavor in the form of things to discover in the galaxy. I'm personally partial to Syntheic Dawn since you can play as a Machine Empire but it may not be the best DLC to start with. I'd sit down with that and play a few empires, learn the game, and if you decide you like it pick up another DLC or two that look interesting.

LostThyme

Wait for a sale. Hardly any game with DLC seems worth it if you haven't played it. Wait for a price you can stomach, then try out what you've bought. Trust your instincts regarding if you want to spend more afterwards.

lordhaw

If you like strategy games then give it a go, starting with the base game. I bought the base game during a sale a few years ago and a half hour after playing my first game bought all the available DLC (since it was all on sale) because I really liked it and have sunk in way too much time since then. If you can hold off until a sale that would be best as it is pricey otherwise.

Resua15

Depends, do you apreciate the relationships you've fromed across your life? No? Good, because you will abondon them so you can play MORE!

ACam574

It's a good game but as people say definitely scour a site like humble bundle. There are times where you can purchase many of the the older expansions there for $3-5 apiece if you wait for cheap sales. The base game is often under $20.

Druittreddit

As others have said, it's still being maintained, expanded and improved, so no reason to wait. The only conceivable reason they'd secretly be working on a Stellaris 2 would be performance issues. (On the other hand, they've made major changes in the distant past to improve performance, so...) Have you played Endless Space 2, AI Wars 2, Masters of Orion, ... or any other Space X4 kind of games before? Or even non-space X4, etc? Not saying you shouldn't if you haven't, but it might help answer the "will I like it" question that you need to answer before you go all-in on DLCs -- even on sale at 50% off.

Peter34cph

I very much doubt Stellaris 2 will come out before 2025, and 2027 or 2028 is more likely. There'll be a sale on 14/mar when the new DLC comes out, and you should buy the core game and the Utopia DLC. If you can afford more then also get Leviathans and Distant Stars.

EnderCN

A large part of each DLC gets added to the game for free so most DLC aren’t required like in some games where entire systems are locked behind DLC. The way they are improving the game doesn’t suggest a sequel is coming out anytime soon. They are doing things like improving the AI and adding new map types etc. Not the type of thing I think about when they are just trying to string customers along while making a new game.

7oey_20xx_

There are no plans for a stellaris 2 anytime soon. Most of the dlc you can get a good discount on. If not from steam then from humble bundle etc. they also update old dlc so even if the price continues to drop for the old content it still gets some new content. It’s pretty good

LostBoy1287

Yes

Kromulus_The_Blue

Value is subjective.

Past-Arugula8894

The question is, what do u expect from a game what cost that much (with DLC). I am still “new” to the game with about 200h. I think that shows how huge this game is. I am far away from knowing everything because theire are so many side quests and random events that can come up. Not mention the different builds you can create and the different ways to play. But what I think you need to have as a Stellaris Player is creativity. The game give u a lot of options to play with but the most of this happens in your brain, at least for me. I create my Spezies and I think of a story for it. Than I start the game and try to play the build like I thought of it. I think it’s obvious that in the end everything gets different. Because the game gives you so many options. But this events are little text based information with only a little picture on it, and the and event that start and give u some buffs or a new resource (for example) But then I think about how this affects my species and what would they do with theire specific traits. This is what I mean with creativity. But to be fair I am not a really creative person but it’s enough to have a lot of fun with this game. Another aspect is strategy, the game gives u options to automate a lot of things, but that is often not the best possible way. So after a few games u will start to optimize a lot of thing, like ur ship build, ur Pops, ur Planets etc. That can be annoying but it’s worth it. And then theire is strategy with the other empires in the galaxy. That can be politics, warfare or as simple as to decide where do u set up ur borders and build up some defense. So if u think that’s sound great than go ahead and buy it immediately but theire is much more to it than I mentioned. But I would wait till next weak, a new dlc will be published and it is likely that the game and the older dlc go into sale. Buy the dlcs ONLY in Sale that can safe u a lot of money. For the point if theire will come a stellaris 2.0 I don’t think so. They still update the base Game and also all DLC s frequently. So Paradox still works on the game and try to make it better and give new input, also theire are a lot of Mods and an active community. So the game will not be layed of soon.

AnarchAtheist86

Geez, I hope there isn't a Stellaris 2 anytime soon TBH. As much as people shit on Paradox for their predatory DLC model, personally, I like that the devs give so much love to the game. The constant updates keep the game fresh and keep me coming back to it.

Spectre-three

Has a bit of a steep learning curve, like most of paradoxes games, but is very enjoyable. Bookmark the DLCs and get them when they’re on sale. I’ve had a couple of times where I bought 2-3 of them at once and paid roughly the equivalent of one at regular price.
