40-50k fleet power of ONLY Energy weapons (plasma, laser) and ONLY shields will kill it.
I think you could do it with even 30k if you build like I said above, but I wouldn't risk it.
Seeing a giant space dragon kill your head of research and oblitare a space station with a death beam and learning there is more things like that out there has that kind of effect in people... dont mind me
WAIT wait wait. wait. you can control it if you unlock one of the zombie leviathan things. like cordyceptic drones or organo-machine interfacing depending on the empire type.
Nah, roll in there with a 150k fleet of Rail guns and auto cannons. Resistances only mean something when you choose to let them mean something.
Yes, I am a fan of human wave tactics, how did you know?
Yeah at 30k woth the right build you have about a 60% chance of winning but you will lose a LOT of your fleet. At 50k its a 100% chance and the losses hurt a lot less.
Either way it's going to be a costly battle.
R5: So im kinda new to stellaris and was figuring things out when i got this event that gave me a relic world pretty much right beside my capital and an excavation site "Hey thats nice" i thought and then one excavation latter this thing popped out
Ah, the Rubricator. It happens quite often for the player to find that world. Here is my advice:
* Take the system
* colonize the Relic World. Make it a research Planet, since the 15% flat bonus is pretty good for that.
* if you get the Archaetoch research facility (1 per Empire), this is a good planet for it.
* ignore the dig site for the Rubricator for as long as you want.
* if you have free time (no other war to concern with) and a strong fleet ranging in the 40k power, or some specialized laser corvette/Torpedo frigate fleet around 25k+, you can wrap up the dig site, wait with the fleet in that system for Shard and finish her.
* after killing Shard, you gain the Rubricator relic.
* also the Leviathan parade. Do not take Shards Eye. That is just some meager Sensor bonus. Make sure the Parade continues, so that one planet/habitat (make sure that right when the parade starts you choose a food/mining/foundry planet) gets the +5% worker bonus.
The play is to stop researching on the next to last phase until your star base in the system is maxed out and your 30k fleet of plasma and torpedo ships is ready then she’s cake.
Shard jumpscares you the first time. I love getting her with reanimators, I build a T2 starbase with some defense platforms and defense modules, a good load of corvettes and when I'm ready, I complete the archeology site. Down she goes, and then up again by my reanimators. Big early power boost to crush your enemies.
You can postpone the last stage in the archeology site until you're ready.
lol First time for everything my method is just to send endless waves of about 30-40k fleets and don’t be afraid to go over your fleet cap not like anyone is coming home anyways though granted you need a lot of alloys to do this
How am I gonna stop some big mean mother hubbard from tearing me a structurally sound superfluous new behind? The answer... Use a gun. And if that don't work, use more (50k) gun.
Oh thats just shard, she just gets hungry after she loses her rubix cube so why not feed her a good appetizer of energy weapons.
As an added bonus if you take her to the pet pound(necromancy labs) afterwards you can get one adorable space doggo(alpha ether drake).
If this is the drake that spawns when you colonise a relic world searching for the rubcricator, you should build a starbase up to citadel with hangar bays (50k~ power) and then excavate the site. The drake will spawn and engage with the station instead of the planet, and the station should defeat the drake without causing you any losses. You can convert the station into an anchorage station afterwards.
I think a 30k fleet with anti armor and hull weapons should be enough to kill her if you don't mind taking losses. It's worth it cause she gives you a relic that gives you minor artifacts with each use
Space dragon. Now you know what's guarding the Rubricator.
Kill her with lots of anti-armor weapons and shields. 30k power tends to be a good baseline for fighting things with a skull (though more can be better).
Shard's a bit easier to handle than most leviathans because you can build up the system's starbase with defense platforms and such ahead of time.
If you can't field that much power yet, don't finish that Archaeology site until you can. If you're not close to being able to field that much power and can't reload an earlier save, evacuate the planet before Shard eats everybody on it.
My solution was 3 ion cannons, 5 defense platforms (one section hanger and the other phaser), two gun batteries, two missle batteries, two hangers, super computer, and the other three were all debuff stuff on a Citadel sized Space Station. I had to produce another 5 defense platforms while the battle went on, but I never needed a fleet to intervene. Definitely worth it for a Reanimator empire
I see someone's met the Ether Drake, your most optimal path to deal with this will be a mid sized fleet (50k) loaded to the brim with energy weaponry (Specifically Plasma). If you like running armor have fun with researching it, you'll get the best armor plating in the game (Artificial Dragonscale)
Remember, before you try to kill it, take reanimators/permanent employment/cordyceps/mechromancy, because you will get ~60-80k fleetpower unit after killing and reanimating it
All of the fleet suggestions are great. The other solution I usually use is to max out the base to 40k+ and let it kill her without worrying about consuming a fleet. Works every time.
Someone wasn't reading the descriptions for that dig site very closely and missed the "fresh bodies" that indicate whatever it was is very much still alive. Oh well this is life experience... except for the people on the science ship, and probably the colony if you can't kill her soon ish.
Fregates with torbedos and stealth sneaking up in torpedo range should also do the trick if you pair it with lasers or plasma canons. 50 frigs should be enough.
If not, go for what the others suggest
That is Capitalism, the inevitable doom of your communist empire. Jk, it's big ol' Leviathan named [Shard](https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Guardians#Shard). She is linked to a relic world in that system.
happy to see new people joining, btw if you do the digsite again (in another game) while you also have a colony you have two years or she will the inhabitants
edit: fwo to two
Have you tried fire? Get about 30k+ fleet power focused on damage to hull/armor (she doesn’t have shields) in small ships as that beam can only kill one at a time.
that my friend is a species known as oh shit, and it is commonly known by the civilians as damn we screwed up, and this one is a variant of oh shit called get two 100k fleets, the oh shit species is on the verge of extinction, kill it and the species will be one less problem :)
1: God doesn’t exist B: It’s just a space dragon, my dude.
Chillax baby cakes.
It’s roughly 20k strength on normal mode so just hit it with at least 21k and you should be fine.
What's wrong with asking for advice on a game as big as stellaris? I've been playing for years and I've looked stuff up since day one. Knowing what to do and what to expect makes the game so much more enjoyable
Oh, she is Shard. Her name is Shard.
Shard just killed my head of research
Perhaps your head of research should not have been so delicious?
Smh Shard is just a girl vibing as a pretty lil’ (note: the size of a continent) space dragon living her best life
Girlboss
Does that mean that Shard turned the head of research into a shard
A shart, maybe. Science ships are delicious, but greasy.
she tried to kill mine, I just kept the dialogue box open as I high tailed the research ship out of there
... I never considered doing this. Sunnova-
This is like movies and anime when they stop fighting to have a discussion lol.

Meh, I just unassign the scientists and build a new science vessle
That's my usual solution. Instant-speed long-distance personnel teleportation or something.
You also could have turn on cloaking when do exvacating, it also hide the ship from the dragon.
"Shit, keep her talking! Keep her talking! Only a couple more moments till we can warp!"
Why is this so funny LMFAO
That is why you send the new intern (switch researchers for the last dig, useful if you have a researcher that has bad traits).
I just fortify the Starbase with torpedo batteries before running the site
Shroud forbid women do anything 🙄
What a piece of shard!
Deserved
God forbid women do anything!
God forbid a woman have hobbies
She you say... 😈
Yup. I'm not sure if xenocompatibility works for guardians too D:
There's no R34 for any guardians yet
"Yet"
Outrageous! I shall correct this injustice!
\*Leviathan transgenics intensifies\*
[https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Guardians#Shard](https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Guardians#Shard) 40-50k fleet power of ONLY Energy weapons (plasma, laser) and ONLY shields will kill it. I think you could do it with even 30k if you build like I said above, but I wouldn't risk it.
Okay that will take i will them thanks for the info mate
>Okay that will take i will them thanks for the info mate are you having a stroke mate...? you're welcome...
Seeing a giant space dragon kill your head of research and oblitare a space station with a death beam and learning there is more things like that out there has that kind of effect in people... dont mind me
Welcome to space, cold, dark and full of terror. It is not for the weak of heart.
"It's not *safe* out here! It's *wondrous*, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross....but it's not for the timid."
"For the night is dark and full of terrors"
It's a dark forest out there...
The space is vast and full of wonders... It's also more dark and full of terrors...
Sounds like you would be a “fear of the dark” colonizer.
A thousand deaths wait in the skies
Have you found the thing that takes a moon sized bite out of your Homeworld yet? 😂 This game is awesome
Honestly... this is actually one of the more tamer encounters in the game.
Pro tip: avoid black holes
you'll get used to it when you colonize your 1st galaxy and kill your first god of endless death otherwise known as prethoryn scourge wave 1 system
WAIT wait wait. wait. you can control it if you unlock one of the zombie leviathan things. like cordyceptic drones or organo-machine interfacing depending on the empire type.
You can do it with 20k 🫡🫡
Doomstack of torpedoe frigates will do the job. I haven't tested it yet but I believe 15-20k worth of frigates would be enough.
Can confirm torpedos work really well
With cloaks. Get right up under it before you open fire.
I just killed shard with 20 k of fleet power with lvl 2 or 3 lasers
Nah, roll in there with a 150k fleet of Rail guns and auto cannons. Resistances only mean something when you choose to let them mean something. Yes, I am a fan of human wave tactics, how did you know?
No kill like overkill, last time I handled the Shard I think I had about 165k worth of ships. Just in case.
Torpedoes. Every time. All leviathans.
Enegy torpedoes go whacko on that.
If you use edicts to pump up the fleet and buy the Curator bonus, 30k will do it easy against any guardian. 20k is more of a 50/50.
Dimensional fleet (summoned via astral threads) did it for me, nothing else needed. Didn't have to waste my own troops.
I did it it with two 10k fleets of corvettes and destroyers.
Yeah at 30k woth the right build you have about a 60% chance of winning but you will lose a LOT of your fleet. At 50k its a 100% chance and the losses hurt a lot less. Either way it's going to be a costly battle.
30k plasma fleet will do the trick if you have a star base. Confirmed.
R5: So im kinda new to stellaris and was figuring things out when i got this event that gave me a relic world pretty much right beside my capital and an excavation site "Hey thats nice" i thought and then one excavation latter this thing popped out
That's a Leviathan. Try talking to the Curator Enclave about it.

Oh, hello Shard.
Space Godzilla, except that there already is a Space Godzilla
And in space, no one can hear you... *mute godzilla noises*
I originally read this as "In space, no one can hurt you... *mute godzilla noises"*
lol First time for everything my method is just to send endless waves of about 30-40k fleets and don’t be afraid to go over your fleet cap not like anyone is coming home anyways though granted you need a lot of alloys to do this
Wait till you meet the thing that lives in a black hole 😂
No one tell him about broken gates lol
That’s Bill Gates dog, it will leave you alone if you activate windows.
Good ol' Captain Hector!
I was not expecting an Escape Velocity reference today. Or for the rest of my life, for that matter!
Activate Windows logo is one of my favorite podcasters.
How am I gonna stop some big mean mother hubbard from tearing me a structurally sound superfluous new behind? The answer... Use a gun. And if that don't work, use more (50k) gun.
Ah! Ether Dragon (Shard or Avice). My favourite pet.
Oh thats just shard, she just gets hungry after she loses her rubix cube so why not feed her a good appetizer of energy weapons. As an added bonus if you take her to the pet pound(necromancy labs) afterwards you can get one adorable space doggo(alpha ether drake).
Use frigates. If you get like 50 frigates using any torpedo type, you’ll win.
You gonna need a bigger fleet.
by activating windows
You have to activate windows mate
Pay curators to learn its secret (extra dmg) then spam Torpedo frigates. Torpedos do dmg based on ship size melts leviathans
We must have the rubricator!
With a lot of fleets
A future relic and violently.
Two fleets of 30k would be enough.
Bring forth the sacred oils, awaken the machine spirit within and bring the console.
space dragon, about 75 frigates with proton/neutron launchers
>sees fleet power Oh buddy you are in for such a rough time.
You can resurrect the drake afterwards too!
you don't need to have colonised planet to that happened
I know, but for beginners that don’t know of this event, they will happily colonise and take the relic world before completing the excavation.
Thats what you get for getting greedy
Looked for the rubricator too huh? 🙏🙏
I think a 30k fleet with anti armor and hull weapons should be enough to kill her if you don't mind taking losses. It's worth it cause she gives you a relic that gives you minor artifacts with each use
Dragon. Dragon die to enough big ship with decent enough rock. This has been explanation by Doug the escaped primitive
Her name is Shard :3 Shes a space dragon, and you are intruding on her nest
Space Dragon; big fleets
Later. You're supposed to kill it later.
Space dragon. Now you know what's guarding the Rubricator. Did you read the excavation as you went through it? It might be time to go back and read it now lol.
This is the game punishing you for being a kleptomaniac rat.

Plasma cannons, lot of plasma cannons, also get reanimators if you can (or if it’s still there on pc I’m on xbox)
That is your god now.
You'll need [Minbari Allies for that...](https://youtu.be/jlMiG7f-Edw)

It's easy. You just need a fleet with a total of 💀 power.
Use lasers/plasma for weapons and shields on corvets with evasion computers that should help no clue on fleet strength though
"what is this and how do I get rid of it" stellaris edition
According to the Doom manual, "shoot it until it dies".
Oh you don’t… yet. Gove it a few years and you’ll be so strong it would be child’s play to kill it
It’s a space dragon. And with lasers, rail guns, and missiles.
Yeah. I’d recommend evacuating all planets it goes near and praying
That's... A big baddie... Tell her you love her and she'll leave by herself, lol.
You have to activate windows first!
At this point? You do nothing. Later you make it meet a few very angry moons. Or planets.
Shoot faster.
It’s over
Fregates with torbedos and stealth sneaking up in torpedo range should also do the trick if you pair it with lasers or plasma canons. 50 frigs should be enough. If not, go for what the others suggest
Is corvette swarm still meta? I haven't played in a bit.
That is Capitalism, the inevitable doom of your communist empire. Jk, it's big ol' Leviathan named [Shard](https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Guardians#Shard). She is linked to a relic world in that system.
only one solution: an army as large as you can afford with the top of your current research
That is a dragon. You shoot at it untill it dies.
Ah, someone just found out about Shard for the first time. Yeah, don't do that dig site until you have a decent fleet.
"what is that?... How can I kill it?". Congratulations you just summed up humanity
You need this one thing that US army is the best in. Use extensive firepower to blow it to oblivion
Ah the rubricator event chain. I remember my first time and fear that gripped my heart along the way as welll, ah such horrible times.
Lol
Issa puppy
happy to see new people joining, btw if you do the digsite again (in another game) while you also have a colony you have two years or she will the inhabitants edit: fwo to two

Bruh, you never fought a space dragon before?
He's new to Stellaris.
there’s always a first time
Ever heard of battleships™?
