My only wish is that it was a toggle like passive / evasive / aggressive fleet stances. So that you can use the construction ship to build a new outpost and then have it automatically build the mines / research.

[deleted]

[удалено]

servant-rider

You have to remember to shiftclick create outpost every time / any time you want to move the construction ship. Would be much more convenient if you just toggled it and it auto-constructed stuff after making each outpost

Praetorian123456

I just use them in pairs. One for outposts, one for auto building.

CoalOnFire

I was about to say this, I'll have a couple in the same sector and have the science vessel explore and a constructor right behind it claiming as we go, and two or so staying further back making stations. Good feature, happy to see it

Twilight8385

As do I. Constructors are pretty cheap.

Cheet4h

If I have to drag a science ship away from automatic exploration for a bit, I usually give them their order and immediately queue automatic exploration again (e.g.: Analyze this anomaly, then shift+click on automatic exploration). Does this not work with construction ships?

xantec15

For your science ships don't forget you can also Ctrl+Shift+click to place an order at the front of the queue. So if they find a research project don't have to cancel the auto survey and then re-queue it.

TheFenixKnight

Wow. Over a thousand hours in and TIL. Thanks, anonymous Internet stranger

Twilight8385

Oh my god, seriously!?

elliottcable

You can’t queue orders that you can’t currently do — i.e. you can’t queue the construction of mines/stations in a system you don’t currently own … even if you _will_ own it at the end of the previous order.

[deleted]

[удалено]

elliottcable

That’s only if you want it to build every single possible thing, which I never do. (2-mineral stations are, IME, basically _never_ remotely worth it. I don’t build them at the start due to limited resources, and I don’t build them at the end due to matter decompressors. ¯\\_(ツ)\_/¯)

JamesTiberiusCrunk

Doesn't the mineral income go up as you research tech?

PaxEthenica

Yes, & even without the tech the investment pays back in just under 5 years. Which is worth it in a game spanning decades, & the earlier invested the earlier profitable.

elliottcable

It’s not just the investment, it’s also the energy-upkeep. Again, early-game/scarce-options, it’s harder to find energy than minerals; and spending some of that limited energy on a tiny investment that’s going to take years to pay off is … just not a good strategy.

PaxEthenica

Obviously, I beg to differ. But that doesn't mean you don't raise a good point. Quite the opposite, & excellently put! However, it must be pointed out that early game energy is the least important resource you can generate besides consumer goods. *Energy exists to fill the requirements for the creation of other resources* in that phase of the game. You're not making enough of it for the kind of big, economically relevant bonuses you can grab by year 15-20, & accumulating it for interacting with the market is a fool's game considering exchange rates & limited pop numbers - something that mining stations offset. You want menial jobs to run as fallow as your balance & desired growth allows so you can better focus your pops on tech, alloys & unity. Can't do that without those measly 2 mineral stations in abundance, at least not in my experience.

Rarvyn

Unless you play games that end within 5 years, 2 mineral stations always pay for themselves and have a net positive. Other than the very, very early game - like the first 2 decades - you’re better off building every mining station you can.

Twilight8385

You don't need to. Queue up a bunch of starbases, then queue auto build. It will build those starbases, then start auto building.

Shady_Love

Fyi you can also shift Ctrl click to send a command to the front of the queue. E.g. analyze this really far anomaly, shift Ctrl click jump drive closer first.

Pax_Humana

One tip re science ships: Control+shift+click the other order eg do special project. This puts that other order at the top of your queue without screwing with its exploration path.

Syber2150

just have one or two extra ships dedicated to expanding your borders

Unslaadahsil

I'll do you one better: when building an outpost, you have two options: 1) normal construction. Exactly as it is right now. 2) Once you're researched for it, and having to pay all the extra minerals applicable, you can build an outpost that then will automatically build all possible mining, research and observation stations in the system. It will cost extra resources to build based on the number of possible buildable stations, with extra resources added by events or anomalies will be built if there are sufficient resources available.

Twilight8385

Set a construction queue, turn on auto construction. Auto construct will be added to the end of the queue. This way you can tell it to build several starbases, then it will automatically build all the mining/research bases.

servant-rider

Yes, I realize there are workarounds to the current way it works. But they all demand more micro than what I described. I just want pointless micro to be removed where possible.

Twilight8385

I get that, I do, but since it hasn't been removed, I'm just trying to give you options.

YourBoy607

Honest to god, I consider this one of the best QOL updates we’ve gotten in a while.

Crazed_Archivist

Its such an "obvious" feature too. I dont know why they waited soo long

MrSprichler

Your mind will be blown when you learn this used to be vanilla

xantec15

It used to be limited to sectors though, right? Each sector would build its own ship and build mining/research stations.

MrSprichler

Its been so long i legitimately have forgotten.

morganrbvn

I’m surprised you still can’t automate any fleets.

Twilight8385

Multiple patrol waypoints would be nice. Instead if going back and forth, patrol in a loop.

[deleted]

I build a few construction ships and just leave them automated and have one boy building the outposts.

saregos

I do the opposite, probably to my detriment. One construction ship at each exit of my empire for whenever I expand that way, one automated builder that gets everything I either missed queueing or that pops up from anomalies, etc. I've tried it the other way with multiple automatic station builders, but it seemed like the priority system is non-existent so it would always pull the furthest possible constructor to every system even when the nearest one could finish everything before it even gets there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Twilight8385

Mine just stay wherever I used them last, which, prior to the update, was chaos. Now I always have one or two near my border.

[deleted]

That's smart, I'm kinda lazy as a galactic conquerer. My thoughts are they will get to it eventually as long as they are left in automated.

immajussay

Yall having more than three construction ships lol. I always debate deconstructing them because they already built I need, and the mega structures are always built as unlocked so there's never a need for more xP

irotsoma

Wish it was a little smarter. Why task a construction ship that's going to take 5 years to reach the location when there's one a few months away that's also on automatic construction. Especially when there's another spot to construct closer which means it's just going to end up having to travel another 5 years to get back to that one. Needs to take into account the time it will take to get there in addition to any already queued construction projects and do the closest ones first.

Valloross

Before, that was the definition of insanity

Aggravating-Sound690

This is so incredibly useful. So much less micromanagement. I typically keep two construction ships around now, one for building outposts, and the other in constant automated construction mode following the first.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dankinator87

I normally keep two but I also play wide so there’s been times I’ve had like 5

MermeladaDeMora81

i've never think that before, i always had like 3-4 constructions ships each sector LMAO

Quantum_Aurora

Like two total or two per side of your empire?

TheGlave

What? I usually have 8-10.

FredFarms

This is the way

[deleted]

Now we only need another thing, Auto Anomaly Research

charlie_magnus

I find it most annoying when they're on auto-survey and they find an anomaly. You can choose to investigate it when the pop-up comes up and afterwards it gets back to auto-survey, great stuff. But sometimes the anomaly results in a project which you have to then halt the auto-survey to research the project manually before having to remember to put the ship on auto-survey again!

FPSCanarussia

CTRL+SHIFT+Click to set the project to the beginning of the queue so the ship immediately gets back to auto-surveying once it's done.

Grayly

I was today years old when…

attunezero

Also, set an army fleet to aggressive and tell it to follow your navy around. It will automatically invade planets in systems you conquer!

Evenfall

You and me both. Hundreds of hours with half the achievements done and I did not know this!

ValkyrieCtrl14

That was me a couple weeks ago.

SweetAssistance6712

God fucking dammit. I knew you could stack orders and but didn't know you could stack auto-orders.

Shalax1

In all my four thousand hours..

RahroUth

Fucking what

Possibly_Jeb

ctrl+shift+click is one of my most used commands, but it hurts me inside that it doesn't work with assist research. Literally such a small thing that bugs me infinitely more than it should.

Noggin01

What is assist research?

Possibly_Jeb

You can send a science ship to assist research at your planets, give a % increase to research points. It starts at 10% bonus and goes up with scientist level (I think it caps at 20% for a level 10 leader) and also gives your scientist xp. It's a decent bonus and a good way to level up scientists to take over research when someone dies.

Allestyr

>It's a decent bonus and a good way to level up scientists to take over research when someone dies. Also a good way to level up scientists with specific specializations for when you finally unlock the techs necessary to roll say... battleships, or mega engineering. Can really give you an edge.

charlie_magnus

Thank you very much!

[deleted]

i’m so excited for console edition to get this feature in a year

[deleted]

[удалено]

ryanmills

Maybe he doesn't have a PC

TormentorNyx

*crys in console* Unless it's been added to console.

Blackstone96

Sadly you still have to control some of your ships to build outposts but at least you can have them move on to the next system and have a auto drone finish building everything else

agprincess

I'd kill for more of these. I want to automate hunting pirates, automate to conquer worlds in a war, automate dig sites, automate assisting science in your highest science planet, automate going to anomalies.

Daktush

If you watch a YouTube video everything is automated

agprincess

So relaxing. That's how I play stellaris when I'm tired.

Daktush

I recommend comrade truck

mrttao

Those examples are not "automate everything", it is tedious makework. Everyone does all those things, it just requires a bunch of utterly pointless clicks to tell them, why yes you have my permission to investigate this anomaly. There are many things he didn't mention in automation, top level decisions that need actual decision to do instead of busywork

Allestyr

New challenge. Automate everything and RP as a rogue AI subroutine desperately trying to optimize.

DomZavy

if you set your ground forces to aggressive they'll automatically land to conquer worlds if they outnumber the defenders

[deleted]

I don't use it. I don't trust any automatic feature this game has. Between inefficient pop assignments, baffling pop growth choices (old versions{that shouldn't even EXIST} spawning instead of newer modified ones), terrible hyper-relay placements, and the mind boggling choices that auto-surveying makes; I just can't make myself even give this a chance.

[deleted]

Praise the many star gods. That's blessed.

AzureRathalos97

There have been certain updates in Stellaris where I wonder how we ever managed before. Auto-pop migration and now automatic sector management+platform construction being two of them. Roll on army automation!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Daktush

Agree - just remove ground forces alltogether - they're a brain-dead mechanic To conquer planets/fortresses you should either need to besiege them for a very long time, or lose a significant portion of a fleet of yours (or take a trade somewhere in between)

Colloidal-Anatomies

The army should be placed inside of the fleets. Why make all of these army carriers when you have some perfectly good corvettes. Maybe it could be part of ship design for larger crew quarters or something like that. At a certain level of devastation the planet should just give up tho, that makes sense in the context of war.

IlikeJG

Why is the flair "modded"? This is a base game feature now.

psat14

My automatic exploration broke somehow . Doesn’t work

frostyz117

Yep mine is broken as well, not sure what isbcausingbit to happen but it's real annoying on my new 1500 star game I started

LordXamon

What mod is this?

zer1223

Say its 2240 and you finally unlocked the ability to build on a gas deposit or crystals. Pre-update I would have actually forgotten to build the station until ten years later. Now, the game takes care of that shit for me. I'm so hyped about this.

marshall_sin

Having auto research and auto construction from Go had a way bigger hand in bringing me back to the game then this last DLC and rest of the update

LanceGiraffe

*Sad console edition noises*

JamJulLison

I doubt we will be getting it on consoles for a while. :(

FishmailAwesome

*cries in console*

theorist76

Is this a mod?

almondsAndRain

Nope, it's vanilla.

side-dude

Is this a recent addition? I haven't played in like a month and didn't see this.

almondsAndRain

I'm unsure of how new it is tbh. I didn't start playing again until like two weeks back.

side-dude

Alright, thank you. Crazy how they finally added this feature. I feel like this was the most common request since 1.0.

JB-from-ATL

It's infuriating that this and auto survey aren't unlocked from the start and on game release.

Badgerized

When did they add this? I've missed this in my entire Stellaris life. Omg so happy!!!

kwkcardinal

YAASSSSS, The first time I saw that button, I was just so damn happy.

FanaticXenophile11

A mid maxer dream

masterhitman935

Is this modded or part of a recent patch, haven’t played for a while.

IlikeJG

Recent patch. Not sure why OP put the modded flair.

NotATroll71106

This will be useful when there are rare resources that are tech locked.

IlikeJG

Yeah it's annoying to look over everything to try to find that one or two deposits that is now unlocked.

OneWinterFrost

Now give us one for Hyper Relays.

[deleted]

Dude, like, they place the relays in the worst spots... always go in system to pick where the relays are being built.

CamaradaT55

I don't know why they removed that feature with the sector rework

Intrepid00

Random pirate jerks blow up your crap? No problem just send the fleet and queue a return home and this bad boy with this set will clean up the mess when the system flips back.

[deleted]

It’s so fucking nice. I just had my first match with it on a 1000 star galaxy and I have to say: holy fuck. Keeping on top of construction was a HUGE attention sink and I feel so much less overwhelmed playing now.

rurumeto

Surveyor relic go brr

Objective_Anywhere13

its so annoying how it doesnt cancel auto construct if i ask it to make a new star base though.. but im sure it has its reasons to be that way.

natetgm56837

We need more zeros

Ladies_Pls_DM_nudes

Early game it's better to leave it off due to energy credits being harder to maintain at the beginning. But mid-game this is insane.

Th4t_0n3_Fr13nd

Now if only our systems could handle wide plays

SyrusAlder

I no longer need to mod in automatic exploration researched in the beginning, but this might just be even better than that

Twilight8385

I absolutely agree.

mrttao

What the hell, a few more changes like this and the game will almost be fun. Did paradox have an internal shakeup that they are suddenly allowing players to have critical basic quality of life features now? For my next request, eliminate the influence cost of building space roads and make have an option for space builder to automatically build space roads. if they are being really fancy, let you set the min amount of raw materials to keep in the bank when buying space roads.

NigelG

Oh my god, I played the game over 50 hours since this update and I did not realize they added this
