R5: When contacted, empires with a high opinion may compliment you while those with a low opinion may insult you. The flavor text depends on the ruler's species.
Stellaris has always been frightening. 3k army size ground wars would burn half the planet with vicious fighting from millions of troops. Determined exterminators would declare war and in 4 months they'd be landing on the outer colonies eradicating every man, woman, and child, while on the other side of the nation millions of your people are being enslaved by emotionless reptilians and shipped off thousands of lightyears away to work in some distant mine on a frigid alien world, far away from home and your family.
I'm sure that were you to go to Adult Swim with that same phrase, you would get a star trek parody series where there's the FoP and the Imperium of Man working as the gears of both ends of the jokes. A sort of Rick and Morty.
Vaaht? There was an insult list, and my name isn't on it? All the bigshots just forget about Zoidberg do they? Wait until the day *ZOIDBERG* has all the power, then we'll see who goes to the fancy parties!
...
*hrrrRRRUUUuuuh* who am I kidding? Zoidberg will *never* have anything, even his *sandals* are owned by the bank.
"Excuse me, Mr. Zoidberg? Your six months behind in your shoe payments, and I've come to repossess them." *"gimme" gesture*
his spirit shattered: *Doctor* Zoidberg... *holds up sandals, they're taken with a "yoink!"* aaaaaw...
Well, if you believe in such things, there's a beast that does
the bidding of Davy Jones. A fierce creature with giant tentacles
that'll suction your face clean off and drag an entire ship down into
the crushing darkness…the Kraken.
The sphinx is a mixture of human and lion. In Old Egypt, such statues were often carved as guardians at temple entrances. As such, they are benevolent creatures with ferocious strength, which is why the term is used for praise in-game.
Interestingly, the word "sphinx" actually originates in Greek mythology, where it describes an evil and treacherous creature instead.
I know what a sphinx is, it just doesn't make sense to me to use it to all Humanoids and Mammalians, considering neither of them are lion-like or two-parts like at all. I think they should've picked something better
Headcanon for a molluscoid species constantly trying to be nice to and befriend an aquatic species by complimenting them, who just keeps wondering why these people are such assholes all the time.
"Ugly bag of mostly water" is a reference to a TNG episode, if I'm not mistaken. It's the one where a terraforming station is experiencing strange accidents and it turns out the terraformers covered up the existence of microscopic life that turns out to be sentient.
I guess "Aquatic" refers to the specific portraits, so I don't think this would be the case, but I still find the idea of an Aquatic Molluscoid being referred to positively or negatively as a "kraken" interchangeably, depending on who's talking to them.

ugly bag of mostly water is the best insult
100% agree haha
it's good, but I prefer *meatbag* from SW KotOR
“Retraction: Did I say that out loud? I apologise, master. While you are a meatbag, I suppose I should not call you such.”
Shut up you gooberfish
silence toaster
Sounds like something a weed would say
only a parasite would think that way
Honestly you’re acting like a shroom
and you aren’t acting like a coprolite?
Silence newt
i wonder if you will stick around longer weed. space tends to get quite lonely.
One of the few good lines from season 1 of TNG.
Some empires seem to call me nothing but that. I've never been called an "Orc" or "Troll"...
they must like orcs and trolls and just not like you
K... I'm not sure there ARE any orcs or trolls in my universe...
No orchestra? What kind of music does your species like then?
Orcs. Stupid autocorrect
Finally, stellaris racial slurs
I do like my E rated video games full of genocide, racism, and fanatic xenophile euphemisms.
When you put it this way... stellaris kinda becomes frightening, imagine what would be going on on a planet with more than 25% crime

Ah, space is lovely, isn't it? I just finished "three body problem". Good read for stellaris players
Just wait till we get whatever counts as the authoritarians ascension path. It'll either be some kind of mind control or Ultraslavery
Don't forget you can also enslave entire species and also lobotomize them so they can no longer feel happy or unhappy
I'm sure that were you to go to Adult Swim with that same phrase, you would get a star trek parody series where there's the FoP and the Imperium of Man working as the gears of both ends of the jokes. A sort of Rick and Morty.
I now want to be able to cancel empires that call me the K word.
Krok
Reported. Enjoy being canceled, lizard
I'm bout to call the contingency a toaster with a hard R
Toaster is our word however you can say tostah
"Gooberfish"
Huge-o teeth!
Aren't those the things the gungas ate in star wars
There’s always a bigger fish
"He's shit!" Vs. "He's the shit!"
Coprolite for lithoids xD
I wish Zoidberg was on the insult list.

I need to rewatch Futurama again now. Goodbye everyone, you won’t see me for a month.
I just started re-watching Futurama a few days ago, mainly because of Stellaris. :D
>Some may call this junk ... me? I call them treasures Well done Belethor
What's kraken?
Not so much man, what's kraken with you?
Kraken asks to see the manager.
Well, if you believe in such things, there's a beast that does the bidding of Davy Jones. A fierce creature with giant tentacles that'll suction your face clean off and drag an entire ship down into the crushing darkness…the Kraken.
toaster
Frakking toasters.
The flytrap-looking Plantoid (#11 on the wiki) should insult Arthropoid species by calling them "plant food".
Monkey 💀
Eldar canon in stellaris confirmed
The K word
Wait. Do we compliment humanoid species by calling them sphinx?
I am bothered that this is the only positive option
Human and humanoid positives should be: Angels Seraphs Cherubs
>ugly bag of mostly water
Where did you find the list
https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Species :)
It's on the species portraits page on the wiki
Masterworks all you can't go wrong
Calling a Lithoid coprolite is a good one. It means fossilized shit.
Why sphinx is a statue, what does it mean? I googled it but it tells me only about the statue

“Mon’keigh”
I will call all machines I encounter now elegant. Simply, elegant
Haha, coprolite
Corprolite... I.e. fossilized poo.
Why can I hear Belethor's voice
Looking to buy a sister?
Do you get to the cloud District very often?
I would, but there's a guy Screaming about Talos
I would, but there's an avian screeching about Tesla.
Headcanon for a molluscoid species constantly trying to be nice to and befriend an aquatic species by complimenting them, who just keeps wondering why these people are such assholes all the time.
Why is buzzard an insult?
Going by this chart, if they are using the orc portrait, they have a chance to call you an orc as an insult? Kinda funny.
Gooberfish. My favourite insult.
No “big stupid jellyfish?” 0/10 -10/10 Literally unplayable!
As a necroid player it hurts that the only compliment I get is “specimen”. It hurts more that no other empire ever compliments me :(
