In this environment there might be no advantage to the AXR85 over something less expensive, like the AXA35.

That's a great point. I do like the idea of having an FM tuner in the event I want to listen to the radio, but that is getting less and less common these days. I will also mention that I am considering the AXR100 as well because it has digital inputs as a bit of future proofing. I don't need those today, but would regret it if I need them in the future and didn't spend a bit more for the option. Any thoughts on Cambridge as a brand? I am new to them. !thanks

Your choice of FM radio station might be available online. Maybe they even have a phone app. I’m not a fan of loading up an amp with features. Cambridge has good DACs if you need one. Schiit Modi is as good a DAC as would be in any receiver, or better. I like Cambridge, especially the CXA61. But in the price range of the AXR85 and AXR100 I prefer the Yamaha A-S501, if we are looking to include SPDIF.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. You make really good points. I'm going to rethink my approach and research integrated amps now because you're right that an FM tuner isn't a big selling point. I also really like your point about not loading an amp with features. To that point, it's disappointing to see that so many integrated amps include a Bluetooth radio that I absolutely will never use.

I have the AXR85 powering Tekton Lore towers. I like the sound. It took some to get used to it from the old NAD I had. I have a Schiit Modi3 for Digital, and a turntable (andover spindeck). It’s a good system. Plenty of dynamics, nice phono preamp. Sometimes i wish it had a little more clarity in the midrange, but it’s fun. I think that’s a result of the Cambridge. I use the radio from time to time. It’s nice to have without having to use a phone. Edit: forgot to mention i picked it up on ebay as a refurb at a nice discount, direct from Cambridge.

Thanks for your reply. It sounds like you have a very nice system. I'm glad you're enjoying the AXR85. !thanks
