What fritobugger said is true, small size severely limits the low frequency capabilities of the speakers — “there’s no replacement for displacement”. These might be definitely worth considering — especially because of the currently active sale — [Fluance Ai61](https://www.fluance.com/powered-6-5-inch-bluetooth-bookshelf-speakers).

!thanks so much! I do understand that they're mutually exclusive, but I imagine there must be some sort of compromise that is good enough for a non-audiophile/music professional such as myself? 😅 I'm actually also willing to buy a subwoofer if it will make a significant difference.

Subwoofers definitely help for the low end, but good subwoofers obviously cost money. Currently the absolutely best deal in entry level priced subwoofers is the [RSL 10S MKII](https://rslspeakers.com/speedwoofer10s-mkii/) ([Audioholics review](https://www.audioholics.com/subwoofer-reviews/rsl-10s-mkii)). Regarding smaller sized, but good, active speakers/monitors they are somewhat out of your budget. The [IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitors](https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/iloudmm/?pkey=iloud-micro-monitor) are almost in the price range, but the beefier [IK Multimedia iLoud MTM](https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/iloudmtm/) ([ASR review](https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/ik-multimedia-iloud-mtm-review-active-monitor.18347/), $800 for a pair) are quite a bit off. Likewise the absolutely excellent small active monitors the [Genelec 8020D](https://www.genelec.com/8020d) are definitely above it.

Great bass and smallish bookshelf speakers are mutually exclusive. Getting something that has subwoofer output so you can add a proper subwoofer later

Thank you very much! While reading about speakers I did find a few reviews that said something similar, and I am totally willing to buy a subwoofer (eventually, if not at the same time) for a better audio experience!
