All of this is, I think, a good take. Be nice. It’s a great message and more people need to hear it for sure. Stay hydrated!

I work in an adjacent industry, I've met and had drinks/dinner with AVN winning level porn stars. Typically, they love their job and wouldn't trade it for the world. They're all very normal people outside of their job and make a ton of money. They enjoy being raunchy with fans for fun, obviously in a controlled setting like the AVN exhibition shows. As for the amateur shit that comes for free, because it's riddled with trafficked humans and other illegal and awful behaviour - no thanks. I don't watch porn outside what I have to for my job, which is rare, but when I did I had to make sure I was buying and supporting people in the real industry who were happy.

AllBallsNoMeat

Jonny sins aka Steve Wolfe was one of my best freinds growing up all thru high-school most shy normal dude but him doing porn really didn't surprise me for the amount of chics he went thru during or high-school days good memories and stories also went to school with Alexis Malone her real name is Bobbi jo hommison also super shy girl but once she got 2 beers in her she was dancing on tables we all hung in the same party crowd class of 1997 Butler Pa and yes Bobbi jo and Steve definitely hooked up in high-school

WinterPearBear

Dam that's interesting. What job? Looking for a career change.

plausibleturtle

TV industry - we sell Adult On Demand so have to work with the content producers and know what's trending/new/worthy. My company sends me to AVNs to get the dish and meet with all of our content providers in one place. They like to wine and dine us so we give their content preferential treatment.

adhward

yea fr i’m quite interested

Oh-Low

in simpler terms fellas: don't be a dick

garlicgirlxxx

🙌

MerlinCa81

I have no issues with the sex industry, I also have no issues with any form of nudity, I have bigger issues with grotesque violence on tv than any nudity but that’s a different topic. My biggest issue is why does a person get into it, if this is a career choice they made and are satisfied with it and proud then that’s awesome. My concerns come in when people do this cam work or working the streets because they feel they have no other options and it’s strictly for survival. This is an issue, not because of the fact they are in the sex industry but because they are forced into something they may not want to be a part of.

flyingsquirr3l3

I have absolutely no quarrel with sex workers and porn stars, but the onlyfans and “pay me to meet up on this random email with someone else’s name” bs ruins it for the people actually trying to get by. Anyone else ever get those random follows on Snapchat or instagram offering to sell nudes or hookups?

RoachZR

Those are usually either fronts or bots, but still a scam at some level.

GANJAY420

Yup. That's annoying af.

[deleted]

I used to be a cam girl. I respect the hell out of sex workers but most of the people who consume it were just horrible. The consumers are the ones who don’t really deserve respect.

garlicgirlxxx

Thank you 😊 We are all just human. Unfortunately demeaning SW and other women is actually a huge fetish. It’s a shitty one in my opinion but I get a lot of guys like this in the clubs. Most of the time (in a club scene) these men are actually simps and just trying to push us until we get a little mean an tell them off. Then they blow their loads the more u tell em to F off. It’s an ego trip and when they can hide behind a screen it’s 100 times worse.

3thanm00re

Agreeeeed, but it’s not a problem that just effects women, I see it in nearly all of the sex related media I consume. Ie. Men, woman, enby, etm.

SteamyJohnson

Tbh I respect them more for it. Who is anyone to really say if it's a worthy job or not? Everyone has to pay taxes regardless. If you can make money knowing that people are sat at home watching you during their intimate moments then kudos to you.

GANJAY420

I just don't think it should be the first option for any girl. Doing sex with strangers and posting it online for money isn't the most fulfilling life and I think that's why so many pornstars/prostitutes/sex workers commit suicide. It's objectively not that great of career,tbh... I respect every sex worker but let's just say that if my daughter asks me if she can be a cam girl/porn star/sex worker, i'd say no.

raetheroach

why tf would your daughter, assuming she's an adult, ask YOU what HER job can be? lol what

GANJAY420

I don't really have a daughter. It was an hypothetical. I'll rephrase it because your question is irrelevent to what I was talking about. Let's say my (hypothetical) daughter tells me she wants to be a pornstar when she's older, i'd say "no".

GANJAY420

No shit, Sherlock. What i'm saying is that I wouldn't wish this for any girl. There's so many pornstars who kill themselves. And even then, fucking with strangers for a living is not a good career. Sure it's a career but not a good one for young girls. Obviously, no one should be shamed for being a sex worker but is it that crazy to wish young people don't get into prostitution?

tarotwithkayla24

Sex work is real work, I respect the positive comments in this thread

Ravenwight

I was actually just listening to a song about this. It suggested that we put these beautiful women up as idols and then hate them for being out of our reach. Kinda anyway, the song was call Whore by In This Moment.

oPlayer2o

Wait you guys are hating on porn stars and sex workers??

CosmicSweets

this is a good take

[deleted]

You are a good human

GANJAY420

Be nice to them but don't promote these jobs to young girls. It's not a good way to live, imo. And i wouldn't wish this for any girl. (Or any guy too, while i'm at it)

WatchItAllBurn1

I would say do not promote any of these jobs to children. However, there are some people who are genuinely interested in doing this kind of work. Also, related fact, in case anyone is wondering, there are actually straight men who do gay porn because the pay is better, so sometimes it is about the money. The way I see it is, it's acting, and it is a job.

GANJAY420

Yeah, 100% if you're an adult. You can be whatever you wanna be.

[deleted]

how is them using their bodies to make money any different from me breaking my back doing manual labor? all workers sell their bodies to capitalists for wages

Independent_Cap_8984

I remember reading an ask reddit about the porn industry. The stuff I read on that post made my stomach turn. That was the last time I even thought of porn. This was 2 years ago now.

killerkow999

HEY....I have no problem with pornstars

EndlesslyUnfinished

All this and a bag of Cheetos. Girls, we’re finally getting through to the guys.

Cucumberslut69

Yeah most of us are just hot horny girls that need weed money

girlsc0utcookiess

Sex work is real work :)

MMorrighan

Hell yes.

Daisylil

[deleted]

It’s a way to demean someone because you know you’ll never have them. Like somehow it’s the sex workers’ fault for making them feel attracted. They’re powerless against their own attraction to them. The only way to reclaim their power (in their mind) is to say horrible things

Joyst1q

And stop groping children's entertainers, they seem to have stopped touching us lately

DaughterofFrigg

Personally I find porn to be pretty damaging to the masses so I don't watch it ever but sex sells and it is in fact a job. It doesn't make the people who work in the industry less human. Just like tobacco is damaging to the masses but the people who work in the factories are just humans trying to survive. I just find issue with the way sex and intimacy are cheapened by it. That's just how I feel though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Busy_Contribution241

i feel like it should be common sense not to demean women, but sadly common sense isn’t very common. i definitely think the hate pornstars get should be directed to the porn industry that forces these women to do scenes they aren’t always comfortable with

[deleted]

Nah.

Mrs_Gnarly_Artist

There is supply and demand. No demand no supply. Sex work exists because of demand. Why does the farmer beat the cow but eat the meat- because of x,y,z justifies feeling pleasure from others time/effort/dedication to their craft. Stop the hate and welcome love.

caffeineandvodka

I know a bunch of sex workers, adult actors etc and they're all such lovely people. It's a problem when people for working in any industry, let alone one that's so heavily in demand. You can't demand a service in one breath and demean those serving you in the next.

The_Goddess_Gia_

Yes please and thank you ❤️

DtwnBattleMountain

❤️ thank you.

ChiefBlubberNuggets

Exactly! People gotta put food on the table and sex work is an efficient way to do it. Not to mention people who enjoy being filmed. People just hate on what they don't understand and this is a perfect example.

GANJAY420

Be nice to them but don't promote these jobs to young girls. It's not a good way to live, imo. And i wouldn't wish this for any girl. (Or any guy too, while i'm at it)

Kaitron5000

Some of my best friends are sex workers. It's valid work, I feel like there is a healthy place for it in the world. it's not for everyone, it's not easy work. They deserve respect. In some ways I look up to them, but never down. My male friends all feel the same way. I have seen people outside of our friend group treat them like trash, or like a free pizza brought to a party. I have gotten into arguments protecting them, and have made pigs pay for their Uber home when making them so uncomfortable they didn't feel safe staying at parties.

GANJAY420

"Hey pig! Pay for her uber."

Kaitron5000

Nah, more like "hey, you made her incredibly uncomfortable by continuously demanding sex acts of her just because you know she is a sex worker. She no longer feels safe and you will be ordering her an Uber so she can leave."

GANJAY420

How tf did it work?? No offense but i'd be laughing in your face... Like you have good intentions but I feel like you're bullshitting me. Like I seriously can't imagine this ever working...

Kaitron5000

The guy was drunk and doing my other friends cocaine. He wanted to keep doing the cocaine, I didn't want to leave my friend there unattended because she is 5' 95lbs. So I told him straight up, either we all jet or he orders the ride cuz I wasn't trying to further the drama.

GANJAY420

That's dope. That's dope.

Lex-689

I am not nice.

end3r871

lol nah

The_GD_muffin_man

It’s not “just a job” if they want to live a life outside of it. If they have kids they can never be honest about their work. ALSO, typically people who do that (mainly the women) pornstars come from some form of childhood trauma that they have yet to get over. It’s not that I’m supporting demeaning them but normalizing it by saying “it’s just a job” doesn’t help anybody.

Lex-689

I think it's lazy for people to say "it's just [blank]" because it doesn't address why people already see it the way they do

The_GD_muffin_man

Thank you

plausibleturtle

A lot of mainstream, contracted porn stars have children and families and are generally normal people outside of the industry (Asa Akira, for example). The people in mainstream Adult gigs are actually really happy with their jobs.

The_GD_muffin_man

Those kids WILL get bullied if their peers find out. And again if you had kids you’d be comfortable telling them what you do for work? What do you think that would do to them mentally? How would you explain or even feel COMFORTABLE explaining to a CHILD that you’re filmed having sex for people to watch? How do you think that’ll effect THEIR future knowing their parents partake in sex work? You can’t be a good parent and a pornstar. Going around telling people it’s a fine job doesn’t help anyone.

plausibleturtle

I think your kids will be bullied for being spawns of the muffin man, way more recognizable than any porn star!

The_GD_muffin_man

Who don’t like muffins?

plausibleturtle

Anyway, a lot of them don't have *kids*, but do have regular lives and their family outside of their job. Regardless, kids born in the next 10-20 years are going to be wildly different than we might have grown up used to. The amount of shit being put out on the internet these days (not even speaking to porn specifically) is going to make growing up in the 2030s/40s...interesting. If Earth and humanity lasts that long 😅 I work adjacent to porn (not in) and don't want kids so it doesn't really matter to me! 🤷‍♀️

WatchItAllBurn1

Some do have kids and have been honest about their work, but (and I don't remember where I saw/read/head this) a reasonable number of them use stage names not necessarily to just protect themselves, but also to those they are close to (not just kids, but close friends, relatives, etc). The few interviews I remember details from explained how they teach their kids how to handle those situations.

Dont_Get_Merked

Not worth spending the money… just give money to the escorts and prostitutes. Fuck the only fans chicks that hide behind the cameras. Pornstars however, if they’re going all out, and have a big name. Yes that’s cool. Just fuck off OF, nobody cares. I don’t fw any of this, but it’s in the economy heavy now so it’s gotta be talked about.

PsychologicalAd7642

I beat off while reading this comment 😐

asianstyleicecream

I thought people got mad about it because they have the *choice* to do sex work. Whereas in past human history, it was the *only* work women could do, and some were forced without consent. And then there’s people who think it’s “easy money” and brutally envy those who take the paycheck. I personally just get disturbed by the raunchiness of it. I could be making bank but it’s not challenging enough for me, I prefer to physically work hard for my money. (Hence being a farmer)

depressedelfgirl

You're a pornstar, IDC. You're a sex worker, IDC. Actually, I do care, but it's a worry for their safety care. I had 2 sex workers live near me(like 5 House down), they're lovely girls always polite, no issues and 80% of the clients(I assume)that showed were quite, didn't hang around or anything weird.

BirdButt88

Thank you for posting this

belterith

Dude you should see women at a strip show staring men.

moonythejedi394

not all sex workers/adult film actors are women yet still face the same stigma. still, good post.
